Food was amazing and all the staff were really friendly!! Amazing atmosphere all round and will definitely come back again!!

Visited during the week, carvery was fantastic so lovely and fresh! Was greeted and served by Sophie and Kayleigh who were so polite and friendly, will definitely be returning.

Really lovely food that was topped up and fresh. The service was fast and the server lovely. Would recommend highly if you are looking for a nice carvery restaurant.

Been to Watergate Toby Carvery today for lunch. Disappointed with first impressions, staff all looked scruffy for their roles. Regularly been in many Toby's and all staff have looked smart in their uniforms, except for Wartergate. Have staff no pride in appearance. On a brighter note, food was very good, but some of the veg was just warm. Needs a coat of looking at.

I visited the watergate Toby carvery on wednesday 7th as a family, 4 adults and 2 children. We were visiting as a treat for my granddaughters birthday and the whole process was terrible. Myself being coeliac was left unable to eat as there wasn’t food available at the carvery, eg there were few carrots, what was there was dry and crispy and going brown. The leek and cabbage mix was the same, very little in the dish and it was dry and going brown. The staff did do me some cauliflower however that was brought out to the table before any food haad been brought to the children and we didn’t want to get food and start to eat before the children had their food. That cauliflower wasn’t drained well but regardless it was cold soon. my granddaughter and grandson both wanted garlic bread starter, apparently you didn’t have any. They had to then settle for tomato soup which they didn’t really want but don’t like prawns so had no other option. their soup was brought out and the brown my grandaughter had was filled, my grand sons was half ful, of course being 10 years old he wasn’t understanding why the difference, the cost was the same. 5 of us got a hot chocolate and 1 of us had a Pepsi however due to the next issues 2 of us ended up with our hot chocolate drinks being cold 3 of us adults went for the carvery but this is when I could not even get food for my plate However I spoke to the manager on the day and was much less than satisfied The manager was very rude and tried to blame me for there being no fresh veg available, he declared that we shou,d have warned them that we would want fresh vegetables, in 40 years of going to such places I’ve never been told I need to pre book there being vegetables available. Anyone going to a carvery would expect there to be basic vegetables. Carrots, peas and so on The 2 staff members serving behind the carvery counter were also pretty rude. The chef complained that he only has one pair of hands. The turkey had run out but there was a small amount on my plate, I had beef too but they needed more turkey out and while I was stood there with food on my plate as in the bit of turkey and the beef, I was then told the fresh turkey would be out in 10 minutes. No apology, no offer to keep my food warm. Instead I was left stood there having to partly eat while waiting as it was going cold. I had requested fresh roasts with dripping as there were none out at all. I then asked where the fresh veg was and it’s clear I was an inconvenience. In the end I went to sit down, gave them the plate back and saw my family had all started to eat but not one of them had eaten more than half their food. They were not happy with the food. When I complained to the manager that I then no longer even wanted to eat as I would have had the 5 of them sitting waiting for me to finish which wasn’t acceptable for a family meal and we had pre booked tickets to take the children to a local place where they have inflatables so we couldn’t keep hanging around. The manager as mentioned above tried to put this back on me saying we should have pre booked fresh veg to be available. One look at your reviews on trip advisor and Google shows this is certainly not an isolated complaint I certainly gave the manager my thoughts on the treatment we received and I shouldn’t have paid. Totally disgusted with the treatment and service however the young lady who took our drink order and answered our questions did her best. I complained further via X and was contacted by the General Manager Sophie on 12th August. I was unable to respond straight away due to health problems however this should not be an issue and I replied on 26th August asking for more details about the so called investigation into the issues I raised, I want accountability not just offered a voucher for a unknown amount, could have been a £10 voucher for all knew which would leave me with further outgoings. The day was ruined for 6 members of my family, this was the first time I’d been able to take 5 family members and myself for a meal and was left so disappointed, as were every one of us. I have had no response to this email “ Hi Sophie Sorry fir the delay responding, I have thought about your offer however perhaps you could give more detail? You mention other restaurants we could attend however as a party of 6 and only one car in the family this causes difficulties as we are limited to where we can travel as my daughter & son in law had to ferry us about making 4 different journeys to get us all to the carvery in the first place and also my son may have to bring my 2 year old granddaughter if his partner is working so not sure where that would leave us however if we were to travel this would incur further costs for myself to make sure we can all get to any destination as my family are on low incomes. It was the first time we had all gone to somewhere together so was a rare treat. Also I’d like to add that we had pre booked a session at air bounce as part of the treat fir my granddaughters birthday so not only did I not get to eat in the carvery but I could not then eat until I returned home. The mood of the family by this point had been affected to the point no one really enjoyed the rest of the day. You say you would be investigating the issues raised, have you done that yet and if so may I ask the outcome?”

Took my grandkids out for food. Staff need training in customer service . We all chose carvery’s went to get mine & my granddaughters got the meat then went to get veg and potatoes. We were stood for about 10 mins as there was none left at all. The girl serving the meat just kept doing it till there was at least 8 other people waiting. Atrocious service. I paid for just the drinks we had & took 3 hungry kids elsewhere! Will definitely not be returning & would not recommend

Take this review from a person who has 22 years experience in Pub/Club Management and Cellar work. I can tell you this place is badly run with staff that don't give a **** about this company they are working for. I have NEVER been so disgusted at a pub in all my 44 years and I have been a Bar Manager before. Wanted a carvery so went to this place The Watergate. On arriving, I noticed how run down this place is, the trim on the roof was all rotten and falling down,,the paintwork was dire. On entering, we were greeted by this wall of wee smell in the bar area. We sat down and was greeted by this young nice (so we thought) waitress (Blonde with glasses) who started to take our order. We asked if they did chips with the kids meal as our Autistic daughter didn't want mashed potatoes or veg as she is on a very limited diet due to sensory reasons. The blonde waitress replied, no, we don't do chips with the kids menu, I said really, no, we'll leave it then and go somewhere else to which the waitress muttered under her breath, "That's fine, there is a Burger King Accross the road" If we wanted Burger King, we would of gone to Burger King. I was literally fuming, I had a rant in front of their other customers at the bar when leaving. What sort of establishment doesn't do chips or cater/change a menu for children with disabilities? They are worse than Apllewood across the road who do them small Chicago town pizzas in the microwave for kids, least they do chips though. They need to work on their outside appearance, their toilets, their attitudes and their staff. Safe to say, I will NEVER visit this place again.

Food was delicious. Charlie was so lovely and friendly. She is a credit to the restaurant. Enjoyed the experience. We will return soon.

Had breakfast this morning as we were in the area. Had the ‘all you can eat breakfast’ and initially it appeared that is was not bad value for money. Although without doubt the breakfast does need some improvement - the sausage, bacon and mushrooms were fine and of decent quality. However, the beans and tinned chopped tomatoes were so watery and sloshy that we struggled to actually reach the beans themselves and virtual impossible to obtain a full tomato. Additionally you did not have a choice of eggs whether lightly fried, overhard or otherwise. You had to have what was on the plate. When I tried to find someone to ask, no chef or assistant was available. There was no excuse really as it was a Thursday morning at around 9.45 am - so fairly quiet. We have had the Toby Carveries at Sunday lunchtime in various locations and they are really good. But unless there is some improvement we probably won’t visit again, because there is another carvery just further down the road i.e. Pinetree Farm which offers a better choice and quality overall. Come on Toby - get your act together - these necessary small improvements do make all the difference.

We reserved the bar area for a family get-together of 20 people. There was a mixture of ages ranging from 3 to 80 and a dog! People were travelling from different parts of the country so a carvery was perfect for everyone's tastes and timings. It was important we could all be together and hear each other talk. The staff were faultless in how helpful, accommodating and friendly they were. It was a very significant evening for our family and I was so pleased that the surroundings were so pleasant. A huge thank you to all of the hard-working staff and their excellent service.

Visited this weekend for my birthday. Food was okay, but service was awful. Was directed once seated to the carvery section, and as a vegetarian and first time visitor assumed this meant I’d have to ask at the counter for the vegetarian option. I’m currently using a walking stick, and had to wait for about 10 minutes due to the serving staff being nowhere to be seen. After finally getting to the counter, my wife ordered, and I was told to choose my vegetables, return to my table and order a vegetarian option, then come back to the counter and pick it up when it was ready. At this point, had I done so my wife would have already eaten before I even got my food, so I reluctantly just chose some veg and potatoes and sat down to eat. This was mostly very dry and disappointing. After we’d finished, we asked for the bill, and it was only after we’d paid that we realised that I’d been charged for a full carvery - not the vegetarian one, much less for only having vegetables. We decided not to go to the hassle of asking for a refund for a few quid, and cheerfully said goodbye to our server, only to be glared at and completely ignored. Not a great birthday experience, sadly - and with a really great family carvery across the road, you would honestly think that Toby would make more effort with food and staffing.

Called in randomly as I was passing. Decided to have a bacon butty as the bacon looked like it was cooked just as I like it! I was not disappointed! Wow, wow, wow! Best bacon butty ever! I had a slight mishap with my cutlery, however this was swiftly dealt with by the lovely Alesha! Lovely visit! Highly recommend Breakfast. 🍳

I used to go here quite regularly but stopped due to bad experiences, so after a year we thought we would try again, I was so disappointed, I had the vegetarian which was just the veg off the food deck, the food was luke warm and the gravy was very watery really bad, 2 other couples complained and they did reduce their bill, I will never go here again, I do go to to the toby carvery in Ainsworth and never had any issues

Food was really nice with good choice especially the beef it was so soft. 3 of us ate and all enjoyed our food would happily return.

This was a great lunch with very good food and drinks, love the gravy too. Great place with upbeat background music. Recommend for anyone! xx

I attended Toby carvery watergate for coffee and dessert on my own. The staff that were in that day (Mike, Sophie, Julie and Carla) were friendly and welcoming. They made sure I had everything I needed and nothing was too much hassle.
