Toby Carvery in Southend-on-Sea

We came in on Wednesday 16th, with a disabled young man. The meat was good, but Yorkshire puddings were rock hard. Full of air. The veg was overcooked the peas where like bullets. But I went into the ladies' toilets and how disgusting it was. The toilet brush was absolutely awful. If the toilet is like that, what is the kichen? I took a picture. Will show you!!! I wonder what the company would think if there had done an inspection?

Good food, lovely carver (Danny)…very friendly. Our waitress, Carol, was great…helpful, informative, friendly & patient. A diamond!

We’ve been here many times with and without an offer. Last night there was an offer on, so we booked online for 6pm. When we arrived we ordered our usual bottle of wine which arrived nice and promptly. The queue at the carvery was quite long so we decided to wait a bit while we had a drink. Within a few minutes the queue for the carvery was back to the reception desk. We ordered another bottle of wine and some pigs in blankets with Vikki. The queue just didn’t get any smaller, if anything it increased. We stayed till 7.30pm but unfortunately didn’t eat. Please manage the bookings better. I appreciate we came when an offer was on but the bookings can be managed so that lots of diners don’t arrive at once.

When we arrived there was a large queue of about 40people for the carvery. We got a drink at the bar and sat at a table. Martin our server told us we could pay for the carvery at the bar rather than have to go to the person at the front of the restaurant, He served our drinks and gave us our plate for the carvery - we were a bit surprised at having the plates as no one else in the queue appeared to have the, when we got to the front of the queue the carvery, Dave, exchanged our plate for a warm one from behind the counter. You could see that he was extremely hot but he was still serving with a smile. The food was excellent hot and fresh the meat was perfectly cooked. The best carvery we’ve had in a long time. As Martin was clearing our table, we asked how much meat had been cooked that evening, he said he didn’t know. A few minutes later he was back with the answer. He had gone to the kitchen and asked the chef. All in all a great meal, excellent value for money, will definitely go there again

Carol really looked after us with our drinks and extras - we had some laughs with her and she made us feel very welcome. Danny the server was great too.

We also had breakfast but both times the food was cold! We asked for my husbands food to be heated so they microwaved it!! The food on both occasions looked as if it had been under the lamps for ages . Wouldn’t go there again!

The staff at this Toby are always welcoming and polite. The food is usually fresh, hot and a good variety of meat and vegetables available.

Last minute booking, the staff could not have been more helpful or attentive, particularly Vicky. Carver, Dave, was cheerful and pleasant to deal with. Food was up to expected standard, all in all a good experience.
