Toby Carvery in Epping Forest

My grandaughters first sunday lunch and what a great place been to few tobys but this has been the best staff friendly food great grandaughter loved it booking up for this weekend for me and wife.

When it’s done right it is hard to do a roast better than Toby’s! Last night’s carvery was superb, 5 different meats and all the trimmings you could wish for! The venue itself was really nice, and busy too, so there was a vibrant atmosphere, and the staff were excellent too, providing a really good and efficient service! Well done guys and thank you 😀

The food was tasty and good value especially the roast beef which was delicious. Our young waiter Craig was charming and helpful.

I had never been to Toby Carvery before but this one was next to the Premier inn, Loughton where I stayed. I tried the TC and was not disappointed. Free parking and a prompt welcome. A huge hot roast dinner with as much vegetables you can help yourself to. The food was fresh and well cooked The staff are welcoming and always smile. The restaurant had a nice buzz, and to top it, the price is surprisingly very reasonable . I am converted and have been there twice a week for 3 weeks and still happy due to a good choice of meals available. Highly recommended.

I don’t usually bother leaving reviews but felt like I had to here. I’ve worked in hospitality managing restaurants and even had my own so I’m experienced in food service. But I must say I was appalled by what I can only assume was a manager or supervisor in reception. There was 8 of us lads coming to eat after work and 6 had gone in and two of us followed after (3 minutes or so) We got to the reception and explained our friends were already in in to which I’m unsure what the lady’s problem was but it just felt like she did not want us there. She proceeded to say no we are fully booked can’t sit you, to where we told her again our friends are here already and she continued to not understand and kept saying we couldn’t be seated with them because they were full. She finally accepted that the rest of us where there but her attitude was appalling and if she is the manager you may want to look into this as honestly I’ve never met anyone so rude in 15 years in the business. Our waitress top draw along with everybody else there and the food was decent too. But the managers or supervisor pretty much runined the start of our meal.

Jodie was our waitress. We arrived about 30 mins before closing, but she was really nice, unhurried, and provided great service. She was also engaging with us in a nice conversation. Jodie made our late night meal very nice indeed!

I went there for my brothers birthday I had group on vouchers and they said I could only have 1 per table even though on terms and conditions it says we can use 6 coupons for each table!! the staff were very rude and threatened to call the police if the food was not paid for even though we made it very clear the money we would’ve used we spent on groupon and they banned us from ever returning even through we paid the staff have disgusting attitudes and stand around gossiping the whole time, the food was disgusting and the turkey was really dry.. the desserts are absolutely nasty and the toilets are left in a terrible state pee on the floor and one off their toilets was blocked absolutely disgusting

Never been to a Toby before. We were in the area and decided to try it. The service was great, and the food was decent. However.... the tongs (almost all of them), were exceptionally hot to touch! I understand that the food needs to be kept warm, but surely there are silicone tongs that you can use that will not leave people with third degree burns! I doubt that I am the only person who has made this complaint. I would be surprised if I am.

Brought a party of 27 to have lunch at the Buckhurst Hill carvery on a truly hot day. Private area was all set up with iced water on tables, lunch was promptly available and piping hot. Veggie alternatives and a salad were served immediately with other diners. Craig, the manager of the day could not have been more efficient or helpful - even put out pallets to reserve parking for our coach and accepted "offer" vouchers which saved us a pt of money. Thank you so much.

Staying at the Premier Inn next door this was a very convenient location. I had the standard carvery and apart from a choice of 4 meats there was a good selection of vegetables as well. The service was slick and staff were very attentive, I certainly would recommend if you are looking for a filling dinner at a very competitive price, certainly great value for money.

The food was great, and the manager on duty was so helpful, very busy night and she sat us without a booking. But, the service was very slow. I understand it was busy, but after our meal the section we were in was completely empty, not a single clean table and it still took half an hour after we were finished to be offered a dessert. We were also disappointed that we had not previously been offered starters, the server came to the table asked us for drinks and then just said, two carveries without any questions toward us based on whether we wanted starters. Perhaps there is not an incentive for the staff to upsell?

For last nine months I have been using the cavery for Sunday lunch 3 times a month. Its brilliant . Constantly great food, helpful staff quick efficient always immaculately clean . Well Done

Booked at short notice on New Year's Day. We arrived early, so we had to wait about 15 minutes until a table clukd be setup. They had run out of gammon but that wasn't a problem as my my daughter and u were eating vegetables. Both the front of house and waitress were helpful and friendly.

Carvery was nice. The meats were very good, the vegetables were good too but not the full selection that is usually available! Service was good and the staff were very polite. Not excellent, but good all round. Will definitely visit again!

Having been a favourite for several years, the last 2 visits have been so bad that I've stopped going. The quality of the carvery is awful, the Turkey tasted bad and the beef was so dry and overcooked I didn’t dare try. Coupled with the tasteless vegetables and overcooked Mac cheese it summed up the overall experience. When mentioned to the chef that the whole joint of beef was dry and overcooked, rather than replacing it he just said yes t May be a bit tough !

Waited ages for someone to show us to a table barmaid excessively abrupt abd food was awful gammon meat, yorkshire pudding potatoes extremely tough veg cold but hey gravy was fine! Our server was totally indifferent so overall very disappointing

Food was really nice, carvery is exactly what one should expect. Service was ok but could have been better. Saturday night and very busy venue, but overall experience was good.

Great service and customer care, always have smashing grub on the go! The young laddy who's name I believe to be Connor, was especially attentive and even went as far as fetching me my own gravy jug. Always a lovely atmosphere, staff are very friendly and welcoming. All in all a solid family friendly restaurant with good value for money food.

The service was poor. We used a groupon voucher and staff were confused as to what this entitled us to. The voucher stated we could have two courses and stated this could be any course, but we were limited to four choices of dessert. The main course was good but the dessert was very poor.

Used to enjoy visiting this restaurant but not any more. Booked a table and had to wait to be shown to it after an eternity. No IPA despite it being on the bar, 'we dont have that down here'. Had an almost passable starter then went for the carvery. Had the meats I wanted then the veg, including the dried peas and on to the gravy. No 'famous' gravy. By the time that had been replenished the food was cold. Never again. The place has been 'upgraded' but it does not work

A very big thank you to all the staff of The Toby Carvery, Buckhurst Hill for all their hard work looking after our family and friends group of 22 diners. The service and food was of a very high standard, as always. We are so pleased to have chosen this venue for our get together.

Good service from Kristina our waitress. When i made the reservation, didn't realise there was a £5 special offer. The place was packed! However, was impressed that there were extra staff serving food and the wait wasn't longer then unusual.

Craig our server was very attentive and accommodating. Food was lovely. Will definitely be returning.

I only went here because it's right next to the Premier Inn. But the food was rather disappointing. OK, it's a carvery but there's virtually no other choice. Vegetables were bland; also the potatoes were far from being 'crunchy roasties'. When this place was 'The Bald Faced Stag' it was excellent. It no longer is, regrettably.

Came here yesterday with family and friends. Just recently refurbished, the Toby Carvery was warm and welcoming and the decor was lovely. It was full when we arrived but we were seated in an area by the bar which was nice. The staff here are so nice and nothing is too much trouble. The food too delicious. We had a lovely time. Will definitely be coming back.

Carvery area needed a wipe down, sauces run out , staff nice enough , tables abit cramped together ,food was nice .

Went here for breakfast. Have visited Toby’s for years and always thought great value, the food has never been top quality but has always been very enjoyable. I’ve found the quality of all the produce offered at breakfast has slowly gone down hill and today was terrible, no fried eggs, bacon was awful, they seem to have changed their sausage supplier, dreadful powdered scrambled (watery) eggs😬 Just dreadful, unfortunately I won’t be visiting Toby again for breakfast.
