Ordering a black coffee ends up with what looks like brown dirty hot water and taste like nothing. Then asking the barrista if it could be replaced with a similar coffee, but less water was as if I had asked him to give me his life. I was made to feel like I was committing a cardinal sin. How dare I! First and last time I buy a coffee from this place.

We're not happy to be writing this review; unfortunately, we've had a bad experience and feel that the response to a serious health and safety breach fell very below basic professional standards. We were also then billed for the wrong customer's food. We went to the Toast Rack on Sunday 1 September 2024. We ordered one latte, one cappucino and two English breakfasts. We discovered a large ceramic chip inside the cappucino that we ordered, originating from the cup itself which was broken. The chip was large enough to present a serious choking hazard, and easily could have been swallowed. They then offered a fresh cup to compensate, which we didn't consume as we felt concerned after discovering the first one. While issues are unavoidable in any restaurant, what made things worse was that the manager was (1) 'too busy' to come and give a formal apology or offer to report the incident. (2) The waiting staff then quickly hoovered up the cup and we ended up having to request it back to take our own record, the staff losing the chip in the process. The restaurant did offer to email us a record of the incident, and we'll update the review to say when we've received it. To add insult to injury, (3) we were billed for the wrong customer's food (under invoice number 47023), which we only discovered when getting home. This leaves us without any formal receipt of what we paid for in this case. We weren't expecting compensation for what we found; instead, simply a professional response to a health and safety incident, and confidence that this would be dealt with properly. We didn't receive that. We're not sure if this is something we should report to the FSA as this is something that could have killed a customer under the wrong circumstances. For now, I am leaving this review and hope that the restaurant can act on it in a way it should have done in the first place.

I'm sorry to be writing this review as I was really excited about this place and the menu. However on the 21/03/24 me and my partner came for a quick sandwich - and I was left feeling angry and frustrated. Firstly, we were left waiting for around 25 mins for a simple sandwich to go, there were not many other customers, and to top it off, when I finally got my sandwich, it was missing half of the ingredients. It was meant to be tuna, cheese, capers and onions - but it had no capers nor onions (see picture). I paid £9 for tuna sandwich I could have made at home for £1... And my partner's kimchi beef sandwich was a disappointment to say the least.

Considering how ludicrously expensive the food and drink is in this place (even for London) you would expect it to have a nicer atmosphere. But it does not. The decor is a bit old and unkempt and it could be a tad cleaner. There's dust on the jars of preserves they are selling. Some of the floor was sticky. They gave me a dusty coffee lid one time. The toilets need improving big time. The dryer didn't work, the toilet seat was loose and there wasn't even an air freshener in there or at least not that I could smell. There is a second toilet, but it's not labelled up (it's next to staff only so isn't obvious it's there) and the door gets stuck so you have to force it open / closed. Unacceptable really for the class this place is aiming to attract and the prices you would pay. £5 for a sausage roll. It looks nice but never in my life will I pay that for a sausage roll!!

The Toast Rack does even more fresh produce now with fresh milk and still the same delicious sourdough available to buy daily. The staff are brilliant and really part of our daily lives; some credit needs to go to Madi, Monika and Kadri for my 3yo love of eggs, fresh fruit and veg. Great coffee and excellent seasonal menus with great quality food. 12 months ago: We have been through 2 more lockdowns since my last review when The Toast Rack was not only our daily coffee fix but a supermarket for last minute dinner ingredients. It’s been revamped with a delicious new menu (recommend the home made granola), new interior and has even more super cool grocery options. A special thanks to Madi for making our visits to The Toast Rack so special. 22 months ago: Great coffee which is very quickly becoming my favourite, really good bakes (I recommend the crodoughs and peanut/chocolate blondie). I’ve not eaten in but if the fresh produce, which they have been selling, is anything to go by then I’m sure it’s great.

Update: I just visited four months after leaving the area and nothing's changed - Monica and Maddie were delighted to see me, remembered my favourite orders, and the food was just as fantastic as before. Thank you for being such delightful human beings. What a wonderful place to go! I've lived in the area for almost a year and there's no better place to grab and coffee and be treated like a welcome local. The front of house is a deli-café, with the deli offering freshly-baked bread, a wide variety of fruit, veg and meat, premium cooking sauces, beers and wines and plenty more. The café has coffee (obviously), teas and a fantastic selection of baked goods, a lot of which are vegetarian/vegan and/or gluten-free. There's a cutesy decking out front with chairs and tables (which TFL are trying, unjustly, to get removed!), which is perfect to cotch at all year round. At the back of house is a restaurant which I haven't sampled much but what I have ordered has been delivered promptly and tasted pretty damn good. But the real reason Toast Rack is so close to my heart: the staff aren't robotic, "I want to get out of here" servers, they're passionate, wonderful human beings who deserve recognition for making the place run smoothly and putting smiles on countless faces. I'm still learning everyone's names, but Monica, Maddie and Natasha have all stood out to me as some of the kindest, honest, hardworking people - not just in retail/coffee shops, but in general - I've had the pleasure of meeting.

The Toast Rack is local to me so I come here quite a lot. The food is excellent and I love their homemade bread, but the service lets them down - consistently bad, even when they're quiet. Usually waiting about 20-25 minutes to order if eating in, orders often muddled up or not quite right, usually have to go up to the counter to make them aware you're there. The business seems to rely on being the only coffeeshop in the immediate area and the staff are not too bothered about retaining repeat custom. Most are pleasant but I have seen instances of real rudeness more than once. Last time I went I was moved tables twice 'in case a bigger group comes in', to the point I felt uncomfortable staying and ordering another drink. The place was almost empty. I will go back (it's handy, and the coffee is good!) but not if I have another option.

A bit of a mixed experience here! After a slightly chaotic start (we asked for a table outside, said we were happy to wait, then had to explain the situation again twice to two different employees while we saw lots of people being seated outside). Tip: If you are waiting for a table, try and stay in their eyeline or they will forget about you. The blonde lady (I think the manager?) was incredibly unhelpful and dismissive but the two young boys working there were beyond brilliant and deserve a big shout out! The food itself was tasty and once we were settled in our seats, overall the place had a nice vibe. The bacon was especially good; thick cuts and cooked to be nice and crispy. However the cost of two meals/coffees came in at over £40 which is an astonishing amount for Brunch (even in Wandsworth!). My suggestion would be stop by and grab a coffee/baked good before a wander in the park.

Quite a disappointing trip. Stopped in for lunch whilst working nearby, for a ‘quick bite’. The server ensured he would come to take my order in a couple of minutes, waited at least 15 minutes (the place wasn’t that busy) and had to walk inside to remind them. When it came to ordering, the brunch selection was fairly limited - the server seemed fairly confused about me wanting to add avocado and an additional egg to eggs on toast (a staple gen Z diet?! No?) - weirdly insisting they ‘were extras’ and when the food came out, they were just quite unnecessarily in separate dishes. The meal I ordered came in a decent time and was tasty (and is the only reason for the 2 stars) however I had finished that and the coffee and cake I had ordered at the same time, still hadn’t arrived. Had to go inside and remind them, got asked ‘what coffee did I order’ again. When the coffee came out it was 3.70 + service charge for a very small oat latte and the banana bread was very stale. Waited a while after as I was told I would order and pay at table, no one came out so went up to pay for what was a very overpriced unpleasant eat-in and service. Don’t normally write reviews… but all in alla bad spot for lunch and won’t be going again! The servers themselves at first seemed lovely, but they were managing the operations very poorly.

The best sourdough bread in town! We had brunch/lunch there, food was good, but what stood out was the bread. I went back few times just to get the bread.

We are incredibly grateful that this is our local café! My partner and I come here every day after walking our dog (they’re dog friendly), and staff are always pretty quick despite how busy they usually are. There’s plenty of excellent pantry staples and fresh fruit & veg, but the standout is the white sourdough loaf which I think is baked on-site and might be a contender for the best in London!

This is my go to place for coffee, amazing breakfast/brunch or early evening meal. Warm friendly service offering varied menu that's not just your run of the mill smashed Avocado - they bake their own sourdough bread and pastries/cakes on site. Most of all I come here for the relaxed and chilled out atmosphere - Toast Rack quite simply gets it right.

Went for a birthday celebration. Our usual dining preference is a definite cuisine with homestyle cooking and no pretension. Once a year or so we do a fine dining option. She is vegetarian, I am less fussy. I am a good home cook, she works in the restaurant trade and we are sympathetic to current difficulties. We didn’t need to be so here; OK so I usually blench at the sight of a man tweezering food and waitstaff that serves the first course with “Let’s start our journey”,; it often signals a night of pretension and not much else, but this was excellent cooking and service to back it up. There is a £65 four course menu and a £85 tasting menu incl a veg option. We had the 4 course. Yes the portions are small, its not quite the ‘bag of chips on the way home’ scenario but its not gluttony either and ‘langoustine’ is exactly what it says. One langoustine, £15 additional option, doubtless because of the dab of caviar on the top of it, but it was the most perfectly cooked specimen I have ever had. They don’t travel well and often past their best before they arrive at a kitchen. The brioche melted in the mouth, the risotto was al dente but not raw and the parmesan crisp on top of it had obviously taken a lot of work, a sea bream ceviche was seriously fresh and beautifully balanced. The monkfish delicate and moreish. The wine list is expensive but that’s how it is these days – deal with it. The (presumably) head chef with the tweezers had obviously put in a lot of hard work in prep before he picked them up. Watching the kitchen staff in the open kitchen you saw zero macho heroics and a lot of surefooted care. The room wasn’t full all night and so I cannot vouch for the noise level past that, but mercifully no-one had turned up a ‘curated’ playlist. Service was attentive without being obsequious; you don’t usually get a recommendation for a Ukrainian ‘shots bar’ at the post dinner chat – we will check it out on a less refined evening. Really enjoyed it, you would be hard pressed to find better at this style of cooking and certainly not at this price level. Definitely worth a visit. Damn fine stuff.

The restaurant is located directly on the Thames and has a circular floor to ceiling glass layout. The ground floor is essentially a coffee shop that serves meals and the first floor is a restaurant. An ideal place for a relaxed meal. Good food, friendly staff, and excellent views of the river. The breakfast pancakes are not to be missed.

We were looking forward to dinner as a family in a restaurant with decent European food. Unfortunately they have changed the decor from what’s in the pictures to something much cheaper, which was a shame. Then we were presented with a Bar Menu for dinner with only burgers and sandwiches for dinner in a restaurant. Disappointed, we carried on and ordered the Chicken Burgers, one was burnt and one had the wrong sauce. They kindly took them back but then replaced them with what looked like the same burgers. The prices were also extremely high - restaurant prices for bar food! Unfortunately we won’t be back.

Such a beautiful town! The castle is a fantastic experience, staff were so friendly and helpful. The displays were stunning and well displayed, lovely to see. We were on a tour so couldn't spend as much tie as we would have liked. Highly recommend, hope to come again.
