Came here Thursday, lovely girl serving and was very busy. Ordered a calamari and chips, really let down. Waited 25 mins for my order to be called and the chips were bitter and dry (also asked for salt and vinegar and there was none), and the calamari was essentially all batter and rubber inside. Will not be coming here again.

Best fsh n chips in Poole. Their smaller appetite cod n chips is just enough. Often a queue on a Saturday evening, but that's just a reflection of their popularity and location. Friendly team and lovely white flaky cod. Even their lunchtime reheats are superb ..

Great fish and chips! Have a fab system in ordering and the portion plus food did not disappoint! Would 100% recommend Yum yum yum

Don't go after 8.00 Nothing left, verbally saying there was not enough chips to do order to chef, when questioned they stated they are only small portions

Wonderful, friendly service, answered all my stupid questions and got the bag ready in a jiffy at a busy time. The food was delicious! Light, crispy chips, super sauce and extra side with the scampi.

Our of desperation I hope the managers see this. Please please cook some advanced sausages , fish etc at lunch time. Like many workers locally we live the food but you take and cook every order individually. If I'm waiting to order and the food is ready you make me wait while you pack that order before I even place mine. It sounds petty but even an hour before closing you have nothing simple ready. It takes too long to come in , wait to order, wait for it to be cooked, wait for the lovely ( and she is) lady to faff about wrapping it. Yes, you may have some cooked sausages left at closing but give them away just before or what ever they must cost you pence but your losing trade! Staff lovely, food great, clean, not expensive but so so slow!

Fish & chips were great pea fritters was horrible bought 2 at 1.70 each very very dry in the bin they went . Do not buy pea fritters

Writing a review about fish and chips? We had our first TJ’s 15 years ago….the taste, the quality, the friendliness of the staff are just as they were. It NEVER disappoints. Whenever we’re down here, TJ’s is the first nights meal.

Visited twice this month and both times the food has been super. Love that you can get gluten free batter- and it's the best I've ever had. Crispy and with succulent cod inside. Chips were also well cooked l, decent portion and not the least bit greasy. One of the best chippys around and has now replaced Nick the Fish at Penn Hill as my regular place.

Wow what can I say the most amazing fish and chips I have had in a long time the fish was lovely in a light crispy batter and chips where nice and crispy with a fluffy middle amazing nice and hot to!! And the staff where very friendly and helpful. Great menu choices

I’ve been taking the kids to TJs for years - until recently one of the best local chippies. Tonight this was the kids portion £6.25. No excuses - you’ve just lost a regular.

Beautiful chips and a great size portion too. We came in the summer holidays whilst it was busy but service was still very quick and the food tasted fantastic.

Always the same, despite being busy most lunchtimes they never have anything ready. More scared to loose a sausage than turn customers round quickly. If you arrive as a load of orders become ready, takes ages to order whilst they serve them then you start the wait for cooking. Yes it's fresh and nice but so so slow. You have numerous building sites nearby plenty of trade ...

Took my mum here as they now do Gluten free food, and she was very very happy with her gluten free fish n chips with gluten free curry sauce! Fish was moist and the batter was very tasty, chips super tasty and the curry sauce was delish.

Cooked to order, great batter for a succulent large cod, chips not soggy and delicious, separate boxes for each and a carrying bag, salt and vinegar added by server. Just over £10. Looking forward to my next visit. Ate half waiting for the Breezer 60 Bus to Sandbanks, and ate the other half on the beach tables facing Poole Harbour. Some seating available for walk-in and pre-ordered customers to wait for orders. I highly recommend and thank the Team I had cook and serve on Thursday 25 May 2023.

Ordered Jumbo sausage,Chips,Curry sauce And the Jumbo Sausage was the best tasting I’ve had from a chip shop,The Curry sauce was just perfect & surprisingly the chips let the experience down.. Don’t have fish & chips often but extremely lucky to have the best only 100m or so from our house. Fantastic again last night! Fresh, perfectly cooked cod with the best chops around.

We’ve been using TJ’s for years and they have been consistently providing delicious, freshly-cooked fish and chips. Ringing ahead recommended, the queue on sunny days can get long! One more tip - Evening Hill with the benches with views across Poole Harbour to Sandbanks and Brownsea Island is a perfect place to enjoy them.

They have 2 sizes of fish and 2 sizes of chips, standard and large. We had standard for both. Portion size was good, tasted nice. Friendly staff.

Stayed nearby and went here on Saturday night for takeaway fish and chips. Very good and socially distanced. Huge portions - we had 2 large cod and ship for 2 adults and children perfect

This was the BEST fish and chips we’ve ever had!!!! The chips were crispy and light, the battered sausage was like butter with a crisp batter. Delicious and warm curry sauce. Perfect portions and quick service. Thank you so much!!!

I should have read recent reviews before going back for a second time in the last couple of weeks. Both of my telephone orders have had an item missing when I got home. I phoned them immediately before heading back to the shop tonight but still had to wait 25 minutes for the item when I got there. The staff weren’t bothered about the mistake or the inconvenience this had caused with our family meal. Like many other recent reviewers, I’ll not be returning.

Not going there again. Chips solid as a rock cooked in burnt fat. Cod dry and chewy and top of that paid a premium price. Wouldn't go there if you paid me.

This chippy is probably dead outside of summer time, but otherwise you'll possibly have a long wait. The ordering system isn't that well controlled.

It takes quite a lot to inspire me to write a bad review on here, especially before I’ve finished chewing. I just made my last visit here, ever. It’s been below average at best for a while, but tonight was just too poor to forgive. I considered a rant about how bad the ‘food’ was I just bought here, and it was terrible, but I’m not going to. Instead I’ll just say if you’re reading this, and you looking for fish and chips in Poole, google Nick the Fish, its a 5 minute drive from here in Penn Hill, and its fantastic. Best in Poole by some margin. I think I reviewed it before, be prepared to wait a bit, but the food is fantastic. I’ll be driving there from now on, instead of walking across the road. Lesson learned.

I guess it must depend on the time you rock up to be served immediately. We were served immediately (around 8pm). As we were in a rush, we took what was available - 2 small cod and chips. The chips were waiting so weren't freshly cooked on the spot, but were still delicious and beautifully cooked. The servers were friendly and we were in and out in a couple of minutes. Would recommend and will go again.

I've heard a lot of people say how good TJ's is so on Friday night we tried it.There was no trouble taking our order and our money but we quickly realised that there were about 20 orders in front of us. We got talking with people around us and in the next 35 minutes we got to know 2 couples so well we nearly planned to go on holiday together.When we did receive our order we rushed home looking forward to our meal but it really was a disappointment, the fish was just warm and and the chips were soggy. Perhaps we will try TJ's again but not on a Friday night.

I have been coming here for the last 6 years and sadly have noticed that the quality and freshness of the food has been getting worse and worse. I just ordered and standard cod and chips and it wasn’t very hot and the chips were rubbery. I used to come in here and usually upon order the food was cooked fresh meaning you had to wait around 5-10 minutes. This was not a problem in my opinion as it meant you always got fresh high quality food. However now, in order to cut margins and to make sure there is no food wasted, large batches of fish and chips are made at the same time meaning it could have been sitting there for more than 20 minutes. It all depends on when you arrive as to the freshness of the food meaning some customers can be left with a lower quality meal. This needs to be sorted out and so the near future I will certainly not be returning and encouraging others to do so aswell.

Very disappointing, chips were hard and rubbery, fish looked like it had been pre-prepared and reheated, batter was not very fresh. Would seem that more effort went into the packaging than the product.

On recent occasions we had soggy fish, it seems that they may have altered the batter or changed the fryer staff. At times the fish was stack up in the hot plate, may the cause of the soggy fish. It's a great pity as it was so good before. As we live locally its pity it's has gone downhill.

Since TJs has changed ownership it is not as good as it used to be unfortunately. The fish we had was dry and flavourless and the chips were unevenly cooked. Didn't enjoy it.

We placed an order for 4 take away meals. Charged for 4 meals. Only received 3. One of those was a piece of dried out battered cod, possibly left over from the previous shift. Really disappointing. We won’t be returning.

Very happy to see such an affordable and delicious fish and chip shop in the Poole and especially Sandbanks area. Stopped by after visiting Sanbanks beach for the day and was delighted with the quality of food and the portion sizes

but terrible, unfriendly service...again. This time we were charged for a portion of cod that we did not order and did not get. Went back in to work out why we'd paid well over expected (sent son in to buy) and were given a refund with no fuss but not a usual "mistake" to make in my view. Plenty of other good places for a fish and chip meal so solely because of the unfriendly (curt) service, we will not be going back

Was recommended this takeaway so couldn't resist trying it, especially being so close to the sea.

The choice is enormous as are the portions, absolutely fresh ingredients freshly cooked usually to order, pleasant staff and very clean premises deserves the 5 point rating.

Called in for fish and chips early on Saturday evening. The place was busy as one would expect and the queue was out of the door. Despite this, only one till being used and very slow as customer at front taking ages with his order. After watching this with his arms crossed for about 5 minutes, another member of staff eventually, and rather grumpily, opened another till.

The first time we came here, 14 years ago we loved the food, and have been back many times since, and we weren't let down again yesterday. Crispy batter, tasty fish, chips were excellent! Staff were fine.

Fuimos allí el miércoles. y también dos semanas antes de que pensamos que sería el mismo estándar pero extremadamente decepcionado en ambas ocasiones la comida no era fresco. El pescado estaba seco obviamente re-climatizada y pasta exageradas. Las patatas fritas eran correosos, no regresaremos a este lugar o recomendar a cualquiera. Fue una pena cuando la comida era excelente antes, quizás han cambiado de manos.

Never come to dorset without having fish and chips from here. The food is simply delicious and reasonably priced too. I love they have different variety of fish on offer not just normal cod or haddock! Well done keep up the good work!

Absolutamente horrible. Frío frío frío. Correoso claramente sentado un largo tiempo de espera para ser llevado a casa y nos la "suerte" destinatarios. Incluso los aros de cebolla eran de piedra, duro y frío la marca barato en la estantería del supermercado pieza inteligentes". Ahórrate una decepción y a pie extra unos metros a Nick el pescado, una inversión worthier.

Always go to this place when down in Poole. Easily the best fish and chips I have tried. Been going here for a few years now. Highly recommended. Nothing beats eating fish and chips from this place when parked up the road looking out over to brown sea island.

TJs is always our first choice for a fish and chip supper. There are nearer chip shops, but this is the best for us. Wide choice, good batter, nice staff and near Evening Hill picnic tables or the harbour wall for a scenic spot to eat them.

Awful burger and chips. Burger had been deep fried and was inedible. Even worse it was clearly a the cheapest of the cheap burgers. And tiny. Chips were fairly good but not enough to redeem this meal. Staff very nice but operating with their hands tied behind their backs.

We were have tried quite a few fish chips - Harpenden (Hertfordshire) fish and chips is the very best - This is the pinnacle - the fish is lean fleshy and perfect, the chips are crispy not greasy, the tartar sauce is home made and really nice - - WHY OH WHY do Dorset people settle for this second rate fish and chips Any way TJ 1. we were visiting pool and looking for some where to eat on a lovely evening when the smell of fish and chips wafted passed us we decided to get some and sit in a local park overlooking the bay where picnic tables were out , the food was Delicious and the romantic view of the sun going down over the bay was just wonderful.I visited in the middle of October 2016 and service from a young guy was excellent and our fish was cooked fresh well worth the visit .

We shared a portion of chips with a piece of fish each. Plenty enough for the two of us but not the giant portions some people expect (personally I think most places give you too much). Fish was very nice, white and firm, batter not too thick. Chips were good (my husband enjoyed them and he is not a great lover of fish shop chips). Prices are fair.Would visit again.

Have visited this fish and chip shop several times. On last occasion in August 2016 things were a lot worse. Long queues. Basically the large chips was tiny. The Cod was also very small too. Chips were greasy and soggy. However prices are still expensive compared to other shops including outer London shops.In summary, poor value for money and not very tasty!

Have been regular customers of TJs for 5 yrs now and usually really enjoy the food, but over the last 6 months or so it has gone down hill. Last night [Mon 12/9] I can only describe the food as inedible. You would think that being there as soon as the shop opened @ 5pm the food would be freshly cooked. WRONG! The chips were disgusting, very thin, hard, leathery texture and greasy, like they'd been cooked before and reheated. The fish was cooked to order but so dry.So bad we had indigestion all night. There are better fish & chips shops in the area so won't be going back.

'highly recommend you come here for your fish 'n chips if you are passing- although appeared busy with a queue we found we were served quickly and politely by a young staff team and our order was with us in no time, Well run , clean and modern cheery staff and the food was fresh hot and tasty ( not lunchtimes left overs! ) - reasonably priced too. Checked internet to see if open Sunday, google search said it was, but found out when got there it was closed. Make sure opening hours are updated, so customers aren't DISSAPOINTED!

I stopped here tonight on my way home from the harbour. Great fish and chips with a prompt service. Would recommend taking them away and going to sit on the benches on evening hill!

Having grown up in a family business that had a fish and chip shop we have never since been able to find somewhere as good as my fathers until now! Wow the fish was incredible the batter light and fish so fresh it came away in chunks rather than mush, the chips where simply perfect it was all served up in proper fish and chip boxes rather than polystyrene boxes which makes everything sweaty and yuk..the price was worth driving 90miles to get it and you didn't get a greasy aftertaste. This fish and chip shop is the best I've ever been too (bar my fathers, which hasn't been around in 20years) if your in that part of the country or even if your not its worth the drive down to end a perfect day on a gorgeous beach with the best fish and chips, forget Rick Steins TJ's are smashing it!

We came over here from Wimborne, as we do once a Mo the or so for fish & chips , then eat in the car either watching the wind surfers of at the ferry. Food was good, served very quickly and the young lads serving were great. Can get v busy especially when people leaving the beach for the day.

Staying in Sandbanks and found TJs via Google. Really good old fashioned fish and chips. Everything cooked to perfection and not greasy in the slightest. My missus reckoned it's the best fish and chips she's had for years. Polished off on our balcony looking out to sea.

Popped in for supper with my wife. Chips for both of us were lukewarm and I suspect had been hanging around for a while as were dry. I also has a chicken and mushroom pie which was soggy and anaemic looking. On the plus the service was lightning fast but perhaps because food had been hanging around for a while and was simply 'ready to go'. Won't be rushing back.

We had fish and chips, roch, cod roe, calamari and chicken dippers all of which are probably the best we have had from a chip shop. The shop is so clean and very friendly.

Please be aware that if you make a pre booked order and arrive half an hour before your order is due for collection this expensive establishment will put orders made before you on the back burner and prioritise your order. My 2 yr old and I experienced a 25 min wait for fish and chips because of the above scenario tonight, order no 41 on mon 25th july, ordered at 1810, received food at 1835. A group arrived at 1815 to collect their preorder that was due for collection at 1845. I turned down the offer of a free pineapple fritter as recompense. Owner, please don't let your regulars down by allowing your staff to get their priorities wrong. Gutted, never again.

I needed a chip shop near Brownsea Island, so google found me TJ's I spoke to Janet on the phone as I wanted to place quite a big order. She wasn't open when I wanted to collect them but opened specially for us. Everything was ready at the agreed time, including cutlery, sauces, salt, vinegar etc. Everything tasted fantastic. Feeding so many people in one go, can't be easy but there wasn't much left over which tells me it must have been good. Excellent service - Thanks - We'll def be back!

Tj's is a take-away fish and chips shop - walking distance from Evening Hill, a wonderful place to sit on a bench and watch the sunset over Poole Harbour and The Purbecks. The fish is fresh and flavourful and the cod has lovely large flakes and super batter. The chips are excellent. It has tough competition in Chez Fred at Westbourne and although the latter is a great place to eat-in, its fish and chips do not match up to Tj's.

I've lived in Poole my entire life (28 years) and this place is hands down the best. When I was pregnant all I wanted was chips and these were the best.

I have eaten here numerous times. Consistently good. Usually involves a wait whilst they cook food fresh. Well worth the wait. Always enjoyable. Reasonably priced but no Chippy is cheap any more. Will continue to go there.

This is my local fish and chip shop, and they are really first class, more than just cod and haddock, will also cook in breadcrumbs if you aren't keen on batter, not the cheapest but excellent value, and quality. Only take away, but you can always sit overlooking the harbour and eat them! (Weather permitting)

You'd think potato chips would be safe, but it turns out that while some places do have pure potato chips in separate oil others choose not to, so gluten intolerant people like myself are robbed of a seemingly safe guilty pleasure. I last ate their chips last march. I asked if there was gluten and was told the chips used the same oil as the batter. The lady serving me insisted it's a risk, but I chanced the gluten contamination, and an hour on I had the reaction I chanced (acid, indigestion etc, but I chose to risk it despite their advice, I'm putting the blame on me). I passed by this autumn and asked, they still used the same oil for chips and batter, so I can no longer eat there.There are two Gluten Free Fish and Chips places along the harbour, I'll recommend them in other posts.

Not the cheapest shop around but worth every penny this shop never last us down! The batter is light and tasty and the chips never greasy. Keep it up!

have been a regular user for last 9 months. Good service and good food. If your in a hurry try and phone your order in beforehand as everything is cooked to order. Parking is not always easy.
