We went as a family for lunch Mum ,Dad ,Daughter and Grandson. The staff could not have been anymore helpful or considerate to us. The choice on the menu is very good. We all throughly enjoyed the whole experience. We shall definitely returning soon. Very competitive cost.

dropped into this pub and garden on a sunny day when on a trip down memory lane and in need of rest and a bit of recovery. Although we had arrived at a difficult time for the establishment when they were short staffed (with notices declaring they were only able to provide a limited service) we were really pleasantly surprised at the friendly and helpful service they provided. A venue well worth visiting. Do hope they get back to full staffing and service soon.

Tried to book a table in here only to be told they was fully booked, when I checked the tables online there was loads of slots available so I booked a table. i then sat down on my table once I saw my name and reservation on the table only then to hear the staff accusing us of taking someone else's table. They had half a menu as the had no chicken,staff was trying to rush us to order thought they was rude and felt like they was trying to get rid of us. would not recommend just based on the unprofessional staff, ended up leaving without ordering.

Lovely lunch, surprisingly quiet. Staff were very friendly. Would recommend and come again. Dog friendly too.

A lovely jolly place, super staff, delicious food (especially the ginger pud!!) good value for money, very friendly and attentive staff. Clean and tidy loos always a bonus!

One of the best meals we’ve have out in a long time, and the service was second to none. Thanks to Grace, and also Selina (the manager) who couldn’t have been more attentive when my daughter caught her fingers in the bathroom door. Food was spot on, clearly cooked fresh on site - the wings were so good and the fish pie was insane. The staff here clearly care about their customers…. Thank you so much…. Please don’t change a thing!

Would not recommend ! We booked a table for 6pm online for 7 of us and we turned up and no table ready for us. Told to wait in the bar area (which was fine and understandable) but we were in there till 6.15 Then we were sat at the table not offered any drinks and then told our wait would be long and there’s a lot on the menu not available!!! Then just left us ! So we actually walked out about 6.45 as couldn’t wait any longer to not be not knowledge !!

I don't like to give bad reviews but it's important to share our experience. We searched on Google for a place to get a roast dinner while on holiday in the Poole area. The reviews and website gave us confidence and we couldn't wait to get there, being dog friendly it was convenient for us too. The service was good but not great. The food was really bad... ...a roast dinner on a Sunday, the worst we have ever eaten. I can only assume that all the other reviewers on here have never eaten at the well known chain (TC) because we decided to make up for our bad roast dinner at this place by visiting (TC) yesterday and our thoughts were made clear, it was night and day it was 100 times better than The Yachtsman at the least. The food had no taste, very low quality ingredients, frozen potatoes, poorly cooked and prepared veg, it was not good at all. We complained and got 15% discount, we weren't going to upset our experience further with having to escalate this so we paid the £70 and left. TC was £45... I hope the team are able to rectify the issues with the food as it's a very nice place, plenty of parking, dog friendly and good service. Ultimately if you're going to pay to eat out it has to be better food than you could prepare yourself at home and this was not, such a shame.

Excellent food, had the chili hot dog. Nice quiet atmosphere and friendly staff, will visit again soon.

Not sure what's happened but local bands come few and far between (next one a month), now Mon and Tues is closed, and on the burger promotion night not enough burgers so was offered a kids burger.... I asked for a balloon. The food is vaguely acceptable at best. Come on wtf. I'd suggest many improvement required if you want to survive on the back of locals post holiday season.

Family meal for mothers day. Grandchildren enjoyed macaroni cheese and ice-cream. Adults all had the roast beef. The roast potatoes veg Yorkshire pud etc were all very tasty. We also had a sharing platter with pigs in blankets, extra roast pots & cauli cheese. Beef a little tough & stringy in places. Probably just the joint we had as I understand they can vary. Excellent service from the lovely Grace . Meals were served quickly and we're nice and hot. Nice atmosphere and comfortable seating. We live in Poole but haven't been to the Yatchsman in years due to past bad experiences but things have certainly changed and we will be back.

Decided to stop in for food whilst staying in the area mostly due to it being dog friendly. However would certainly go back. Was clean and welcoming atmosphere (bonus we sat right next to the fire place) the service was great thanks Ellie, good choice on menu, food was a little slow coming out however it was worth the wait. Nice added touch they did a doggy menu so the dogs enjoyed their dinner at the same time it was even brought out in nice bowls for them and cut up ready to eat. Would certainly recommend the yachtsman!!

Our friends booked this restaurant for lunch last Sunday . Wow ! What a great find ! The pub restaurant is beautifully presented, has a warm inviting feel as soon as you enter . It’s incredibly dog friendly , which in our book, is a massive bonus . We all had the Roast Beef , which , was delicious ! It was served with really good roast potatoes , lovely assortment of fresh veg , great Yorkies , and even came with a small jug of extra gravy ! Service was excellent, everyone was very friendly , and a great time was had by us all ! Go try it !

Had the H&W burger, what a delight a full beefy(?) Flavour, youngest had the chicken burger and didn't talk for 10 minutes so possibly the best review you can get from him 😁 partner had the chilli and thoroughly enjoyed it. Homemade honeycomb (part of the sticky toffee pudding desert) was delicious and made that day by the chef Brad, Selina our front of house was a delight, friendly to all the customers and cracked a cheeky joke. All in all a fantastic mid afternoon meal thank you Selina and Brad

Food very tasty and we enjoyed the meal. However there are a couple of small niggles that, if rectified, would make the experience excellent. Prawn cocktail. Had to ask for cutlery to eat it with. Bread and butter were fridge cold and butter unspreadable. Partner given a lager shandy when he'd asked for beer. Possibly his fault ,but maybe if staff ask, it would be correct. Chilli and H&W burger tasty and hot. Would definitely return, especially if small niggles were rectified. Staff friendly and helpful.

We went for our first visit with our 3 dogs. The Landlady was welcoming & helpful. We ordered burgers which were both quick & tasty. She is new and we wish her the best. See you again soon

Had dinner with my brother and my two boxer dogs. Service was good and quick and the food was good including the chicken for the dogs off the doggy menu. Will be going back again next time I am in the area.

Disgusted with the quality of the Sunday roast. Table booked for 13:00 so as to ensure fresh food. Anything but and one of the worst Sunday lunches that we have had. How the chef , assuming there was a chef could serve what can only be described as not fit for human consumption is beyond me, clearly no pride in their output. We were rushed from start to finish and to be honest I was glad to get out of them place. Will not be going back anytime soon as clearly the management are not at all interested in delivering quality!

Everyone was very happy and full of smiles when we walked through the door. staff were very helpful with a change request on one of our meals and the chefs were helpful in changing that order. Grace our server was amazing and helped us with every need and served us with a smile and was very polite. Will definitely be coming back!! Thankyou everyone

We’ve eaten here 3 times before and have booked to go again. Good food, nice selection of beers, efficient staff and dog friendly. Just what we want from a nice pub meal.

Greeted and shown to our table quickly and efficiently by Selina who was lovely. Food arrived quickly, was hot, well presented and tasty. Our server was Ash who made sure that we had everything that we needed. Very impressed. We will be back.

We picked this place for lunch as it looked nice online, and was dog-friendly. Unfortunately, the food was a letdown, lacking in flavour, mistake in the order, just a bit disappointing overall. Lacking in atmosphere, extension leads across the floor etc. Not a great experience. The service was fine though!

Lovely big pub with great decor and some good meal deals there. Nice fire , locals public bar nice beer garden but very disappointed with wine. Large glass of chilean sauvignon £8.95 which not only is overpriced but tasted disgusting. A straw coloured wine is always a bad sign. Even pints at £5.50 was excessive. Cheaper in town centre.

We arrived at 7pm on the first day and were told the kitchen was closed. We tried it the other day, we were lucky they let us in without a reservation, but we had to do the food order via QR code over the internet. No one came to the table. The food was good. Toilets clean.

Come here for lunch but hadn't realised it was bookings only as New Year's Eve lunch time. Staff, Ash, Ellie and Grace were very helpful and accomadating. They managed to fit us in. Food was excellent and service too even though they were short staffed. Would definitely recommend a visit here. The visit made our day. Thank you.

Considering it was Christmas eve so was super busy our food came out very quick and the quality was amazing. We always come on christmas eve every year for a family meal and everything was very good. Special mention to the chefs and grace.

I live in hamworthy and just down the road from this place and decided to take my mum and brother out for a mean my mother and I had the beef we had to leave the meat as is was so tough .will never eat there again the beef was like eating rubber the worst meal I have tried to eat in a long time .

Went for Sunday lunch today. Was very busy and we hadn't booked, but they squeezed us in anyway, advising there may be a longer wait than usual. There wasn't a long wait and when the food came out, it was delicious and big portions! Paul on the bar was great, as was Selina. Not sure of the names of the girls who brought our food, as we ordered at the bar. But they were good too. Only visiting the area, but hope to come back soon when next at Rockley

Clean place. Food excellent and service quick and efficient. Live band tonight which added to the atmosphere. Good choice on food menu and drinks menu too. Trests and water for dogs. Would definitely visit again. Special mention for Grace and Ellie, our waitresses

Our group enjoyed a good meal at the Yachtsman this evening, Selina and her team were very welcoming and helpful, and the pub was cosy, warm and decorated with lots of festive cheer on a cold winter’s night :-)

The perfect cosy pub for a roast dinner after a chilly and windy walk at Hamworthy Park. Very dog friendly - with water bowls and dog biscuits brought to the table. They also had a doggy menu with sausages and beef burgers listed, which appeared to range between £1.50 and £2.50.

Had a fantastic meal tonight, was served by Ash and Selina who were very attentive. Wish it was my local pub but just visiting the area. Would highly recommend. Lovely glass of pint grigio rose too.

Had a lovely time for a birthday meal and drinks , the atmosphere was great , the food was good and the service matched. Special shout out to a member of staff called Ash who was very helpful ans polite .

Saw this place on our way to Rockley park resort. They do special discount on Monday nights. We didn’t book but there was availability. Had a lovely table by the window. We were greeted by a friendly lady and shown to a table. She took our drinks order and gave us the menu, she explained they had been very busy at lunchtime with special offer- think it was 33% off n Mondays but they had plenty to choose from. Hubby had chicken burger and chips with salad- he said it was delicious and great portion and I had Mac n cheese with salad and chips which was piping hot and very tasty. We were full so no room for a pud but there was a good selection of puds. Great atmosphere and great value. We will go again when we are in the area again

Lovely lunch on a Saturday afternoon. The place was quite quiet which was perfect for us. Service was very good and everyone lovely and friendly. The food was good and arrived rapidly. Recommend if you are in the area For a good pub meal. Thanks for looking after us.

Food was not good, toilets dirty and one broken, staff pleasant. This pub used to be really good but the last few times we've visited it has gone downhill. Staff are not attentive and the pub was empty with no food being served due to no staff apparently on one visit. The last visit the food was pretty poor. Small portions and overcooked. Such a shame as has wonderful potential. A fresh approach is needed.

We had a lovely meal . Jane was lovely to the ladies we looked after. All staff was very helpful and friendly.

Went early Tuesday evening and there were quite a few customers already eating, we chose the chicken pie and the chilli. Service was easy and the food did not take long, pie was lovely and the chilli was possibly the nicest i have had in a pub… would recommend 👍 Edit, went back on Thursday and it was super busy as they have a quiz on that evening so maybe worth booking or going early, food still good though 👍

We visited the yachtsman as walk ins, there were 7 of us, was midweek (school holiday) food was nice, staff really friendly. My neice left her mobile on table, when we went back waitress had put it away for us x nice selection of food, will definitely visit again

Used this pub solely because of the car charging - which was easily accessible and excellent. We had lunch while waiting. Fish finger sandwiches and fries; nicely served and good value. A busy, friendly pub. Well worth considering if you're passing through.

Disappointed. Food not up to normally Hall & Woodhouse standard. For £13.95 I expected more than 3 sausages on top of some mash with a mediocre gravy.

A really good “pub” in an area lacking restaurants. All those we encountered were wonderful, especially helpful as being travelers we were looking for guidance on food & drink options. Nothing was a problem, they were extremely engaging, honest & open with fabulous suggestions. The food choices were spot on, as was the drink recommended. Special mention to Ashton, we wish you great success with your writing.

Popped in for a pint with my brother and sister in law, very pleasant, burger Wednesday 🍔 looks delicious and I think I saw a sign on the way out saying 33% off food Monday 😋 could be wrong as the sign is in the wrong place, otherwise I would of stayed for food 😀

The staff were excellent the food was wonderful and the quality of food was perfect. Surroundings were comfortable and attractive.

Firstly I want to say how friendly & helpful the bar manager was & how delicious the food was. But…. On our arrival our party were advised that there would be a delay of 30 minutes for our food…we actually waited 90 minutes! When our food arrived several items were missing - we advised the bar staff that croutons were missing from one dish & she replied that the meal did not include them, so she was shown the menu that said they were included. The servings of chips were measly - with only 9 chips! The bar staff said that there were few chips because of the size of the fish! She was advised that it was a normal size serving of fish. In addition the fish dishes were missing lemon, which the menu said was included. As I’ve said, no complaint at all about the food which was delicious. But…. If a dish is ordered you expect to receive a meal as it is described on the menu. You would also expect the staff serving the food to know what is on the menu! The bar manager was very apologetic, & agreed that our orders had not been served correctly & explained that there was a new chef being trained, but that the head chef should have checked the meals were correct before leaving the kitchen. We received a refund on two dishes which we were grateful for. I’ll also add that whilst we were at the bar receiving our refund another customer was there also complaining about his meals! Lovely staff but we will never return.

Very overpriced for the food received. Waited almost an hour and a half for dinner to arrive. Food was very average. The Red Lion around the corner is much better value for money , better atmosphere, service and better food

We visited The Yachtsman on holiday on a Wednesday afternoon. The waitress didn’t offer the kids’ activity pack to our child; I had to go up and take one. The kitchen sent out an adult double cheeseburger instead of a kids’ cheeseburger - which you think might be good as you’re getting more for your money, but not when it’s far too big for a 6 year old to eat and has pickles and spicy sauce on it… We also had to go up and ask for the “free” kids ice cream. I let the staff know there was no hand soap in the ladies’ toilets and 30 minutes later, there was still no hand soap, which is very unsanitary in an eating establishment, especially one where small children need to use the facilities. All in all, it wasn’t a very satisfactory experience.

We went on a Monday afternoon and it was dead. Only us (a couple) and one family of 3 in there. The food was very bland and tasteless. Fish finger sandwich was literally a couple of frozen breaded whitefish fingers in some stale bread. I always add salt to my fries but they were already caked in it. Expensive drinks. Wouldn’t recommend.

Couldn't serve food because kitchen couldn't keep up. Judging from the piles of filthy plates and litter lying around, neither could the bar staff. Avoid.

Bar staff were great, friendly with a LOT of banter. Booze fairly priced, around £5.30 a pint. Food reasonable for the price (we are from the festival menu, not the full menu). The live music was great fun ❤️ dog friendly too 🐕

Nice place inside and out. Has a lil play area for the kids and restaurant area too for a 'quieter' dining experience. Even plays live music frequently too. I can't comment too much on their food as I stick to what I know n got the chicken n burger n chips ahaha it was really good though. No send backs or complaining from the table about their meals either that's for sure 😃😊

Went with my adult son and dog, we booked a table as it sometimes gets busy. Been a lot of times and never had any issues. However this time I ordered the 21 day aged beef, we were there at the start of the dinner setting at 1730hrs. Was told no beef but they had pork so had this. Had an hour wait for food, then when it arrived the pork was two tiny thin slices of the driest pork. More like boot leather, the Yorkshire was burnt, the gravy was thin and more like dish water, the vegetables had all turned to mush and everything was freezing cold. I complained and got £10 refund my son paid and can not recall how much he paid for the pork as it was not on the menu. But said it was more than that. Staff said they had a new chief, whilst waiting to get a refund I could see onto the kitchen and say at least three plates of food just sat under the heat lamp. Let’s hope they sack the new chief and go back to they way it used to be.
