Jolly Sailor in Poole

Called into jolly sailor for a bite to eat and drink. Lovely decor in a traditional pub. Clean and warm and presentable place. Food was good, warm, good value and served promptly by the lovely Sophie who was very friendly and helpful with some good tips on what to visit and do in the local area. She is a great asset for the pub.

Popped in for a drink. Tried other pubs, but either they didn't allow dogs, or all the spare tables had reserved signs on them. The Jolly Sailor allowed dogs, provided water bowls and even had a doggy menu. Staff were friendly and clearly have a love of dogs.

Worse place ever in poole. Que at bar 3 people working and not one served me.

After visiting your relaxed, traditional pub venue, I wonder, where do you find your bar staff and chief? After an excellent lunch and refreshments Saturday, why the hell did we try “elsewhere” on the Sunday……bad move. We had the welcome return today, on the Monday, for a repeat of your fish and chips, hot, crispy, freshly cooked with side salad, which had an extra twist. My 3 “small dish”selection, delivered good portions, with smacks of flavour. Traditional lemon & tatar cod, tia squid and slightly spiced tangy beef. Completely different staff, on both days, but delivered the same excellent, friendly and proffesional service. Thank you all, particular heads up for duty manager Saturday and Hermione for today, Monday September 23rd…. However…… We do have one problem….. What are we going to choose tomorrow :)) Thanks you, Phil & Monica.

Popped in here after finding it almost impossible to order a taxi .Frankie served us and ordered a taxi .She was friendly polite and very helpful. We didn't eat but did have drinks which were very well served .The pub was very clean and welcoming .We will definitely be back , thank you Frankie !

Just popped in during a walk along the Quay. As always the staff were attentive and very welcoming. It's always nice to see places adapting and no matter where I went the mood was inviting and relaxing, exactly what you need for a chilled afternoon. Must say they've done up the back smoking area and it looks really cosy now. Great work guys, still a must visit whenever I'm out on the Quay.

Been in a couple times for drinks. Really good selection and friendly prompt staff. Club nights are really good fun without the overwhelming part of a club or having to travel to Bournemouth. Outside seating during the day is lovely looking out over the quay. Never eaten here but I'm sure it is as good as the drinks and service.

The food was adequate, but the tables were dirty, as were the toilets which were disgusting. The toilet seat in the disabled toilet was only placed on which could cause a nasty accident. The staff were very unfriendly and uninterested in their customers. All in all a very poor experience and would not recommend. I asked a young male member of staff to clean our table, it didn't happen so we moved to another table.

Had a lovely experience popping in for a quick snack with my partner. The sticky chicken and squid were fantastic. Would probably skip the bao buns next time. Friendly staff and a good atmosphere for a Friday afternoon. Looking forward to coming back and trying something else off the menu!

Today we visited this lovely pub had the best food ever. I would like to mention the staff Sheri,Chloe,and Alex really nice people so friendly and lovely . We had the steak and ale pie absolutely amazing and flat iron steak 😋 lovely place also. We are from Wales Lisa and Dan xxx

We were staying in the area and stopped for dinner one evening, 4 adults and 1 child (+dog). Wasn’t particularly busy (Monday night, not a bank holiday) but atmosphere was decent enough. We ordered at 18:10, our drinks arrived within a couple of minutes. 40 minutes later, no sign of our food so we asked at the bar, staff were very apologetic and said it would be another 10-15 minutes. We asked if the children’s meal could come sooner as she was hungry and to their credit, they immediately brought out the children’s meal. We then waited another 25 minutes for everyone else’s food to arrive, by which time the child had eaten and was bored! Food was what you would expect from a pub chain, good enough for the price so no real complaints there. Overall, would’ve been fine if not for the very slow service. If someone had mentioned the long wait, it wouldn’t have been so bad but we were just left waiting. Staff we dealt with were very polite and as helpful as they could be in the circumstances.

Food is very basic and has very small portions. It took an age to arrive.

We waited 45 minutes for a particularly bad full English breakfast. Very pretty storefront that attracted us, but a place to avoid…

Staff where rude. We waited an hour and 10 mins for food. It was OK however could tell wasn't up to the best quality.

I often visit the jolly sailor and cannot fault it. Staff always seem friendly and helpful. With its location it often gets very busy so sometimes a delay on being served but staff are always aware of this and explain if there will be a wait on food. Looking forward to my next visit.

Food was very average, the staff were very rude and were moaning because it was a hot day and they were refusing to take customers drinks outside who had ordered on the app. The hygiene from the FOH staff was very poor, picking their nose and rubbing their hands in their greasy hair and then pouring drinks for people straight after. Also overheard them begging for reviews on here despite the whole place being ran appallingly

I visited Poole on my own whilst my son was working. The tables out the front of the pub were exceptionally busy due to the fabulous weather. Having finished my first drink, I was keen to buy another and the glass collector/bar person agreed to 'keep an eye' on my table so that I did not lose my seat which was great when travelling alone. Lovely spot to sit and watch the World go by.

Had a lovely trip this evening to the Jolly Sailor , Rachael served us and was really friendly. The staff were informative about our food and very welcoming. Can't wait to visit again.

We had reserved a table to watch a European Football Championship game there. There was only a small map, which we understood. When the food came, we could hardly believe our eyes. The burgers came wrapped in aluminum foil and were slammed onto our table without a plate. When we asked, we were told by the unfriendly waitress that there were no plates for the game. Other guests who had already ordered before the game received their food on plates. We were also very surprised that the waitress behind the counter had no idea about the beer that was offered there and that she had apparently never heard of the wine that I wanted to order from the menu. We had the impression of being second class guests and felt ripped off.

Great place, Waiting staffs friendlyness and fun energy make all the difference. Foods real good too. Thank you to our Server Rachel and compliments to Chef Tony as well. Will deffinetly go again, next time Im in Pool.

Food was okay but not great. It was a bit tatty in places especially the gents. Staff were fine.

Sat outside watching people play ukulele's while we had some lunch. Great atmosphere, good food. The staff was friendly as you would expect from a Greene King. Will definitely be going again soon

We were greeted by a very curt barmaid, we only stayed because the other girl was nicer. We ordered small plates each, but it took over half an hour to come. The beef croquettes were really horrible, like cheap freezer food. The cod goujons were just edible. The bao buns were so grim even the seagull refused to eat them. The only saving grace was the crispy squid, it was quite nice. The amount of dirty table, rubbish and glasses everywhere did not let us think that the general hygiene was much good. Would I recommend it to you 🤔 NO!

Sat waiting for a fish finger sandwich for an hour out side in the blazing sun with the gulls raiding the tables of all the left food ,the bread was so stale it was like eating toast,there was no real ale available so had to do with cider, asked for a brolly, nothing ,you could see them stacked on the back fence, when a member of staff came, it was oh never mind ,

I had steak and kidney pie (not listed). The pie casing must have been what's missing off the Russian armour in the Ukraine. The innards was edible but nothing to write home about. Pub atmosphere was really buzzing and the staff were cordial.

Cute place! The food was good, but they were a bit short staffed. The fish and chips were a good price with a large portion.

Busy Bank Holiday Monday so needed more staff to collect the glasses etc from the tables. Very messy for the sake of employing a glass collector / washer

Third time I’ve been into this pub around 7:30pm ahead of a football match and the kitchen has ‘just been closed’! It says 9pm online but its a pub where they do what they want. That’s the last time, I’ll take my money elsewhere thanks.

A great Pub located right on the waterfront that's perfect for a sunny day if you're visiting this seaside resort. Stop for friendly the beers were great however it does get a little bit busy and noisy so if you're looking for a quiet one or two drinks this might not be the place on a busy weekend day. Other than that really enjoyed my visit here.

All over Facebook it's advertised as opening at 9am for breakfast. We arrived at 9.20 to find the doors locked. Very frustrating as been wanting to come back here for a while.

Went in for an evening meal. Ordered fish and chips. I don't know what the fish was but bland ,overcooked and full of grease. Whilst waiting for our food to come out the music was turned from low to full volume. I could not hear my partner speak through the whole meal and totally spoilt our evening. I get music is played but not that loud in the dinning area .

Sat here now. Ordered a macaroni cheese, wasn't asked if we'd like garlic bread, but got some hot withered salad with it. Burger was ok with a thimble of chips. Waited best part of 50 minutes for it. Now going to fish and chip shop to get something to eat so spending twice. The only up side is it allows dogs.

Went with a group of friends to watch Six Nations match. Didn't have food so can't comment, but staff were bringing out food regularly

Ordered roast chicken dinner.Small roast potatoes swimming in grease with greasy cauliflower cheese all thrown together on the plate. Had to ask for a replacement meal as I assumed the veg would be separate as I don't like cheese. Staff politely replaced my meal, but it wasn't the nicest... chicken was fine, but potatoes were terrible.

It is a fantastic place to eat 😋 the service, which was excellent. I definitely recommend

Was visiting family in Poole on Boxing Day went for a walk with the dog and stopped at the dog friendly Jolly Sailor. Had a look at their season menu and decided to have a bite of lunch. Ordered 2 fish and chips and 1 festive burger. Food arrived promptly and was very nicely presented ( better than promotional pictures) Speaking for my self the burger with rarebit sauce, pigs in blankets and a beef burger with fries was simply outstanding I will go as far as saying its the best I have eaten in years. I would also like to mention the very friendly staff who were great ! Greene King I hope you paid them well because they deserve it. Will visit this place again for sure !!

Looking somewhere to book on Boxing Day in Poole as was seeing my parents. My brother was also coming down with his family and dog so needed to be dog friendly. Online booking was easy, I made a mistake in numbers and they were very efficient in sorting it. On the day, service was great plus the food was amazing, I had the not meat burger plus squid and loved it. My parents had fish and chips were great too. Will be back

Staff were brilliant, really helpful, friendly and the food was great. It was Sophie and Dani that served us and Brad was the chef. I could have stayed for the rest of the evening as the atmosphere was so welcoming and warming on a cold Saturday. Definitely recommend 😀

There was some slight confusion regarding our food order, which was dealt with professionally and quickly, and without any discussion of who was at fault. Fantastic value and awesome food we will be back as Rachel was amazing!!

Love this place. Proper quay pub with really lovely staff. I always enjoy going. It's cosy and warm with pub games, live sport and music. Great prices and service. They take real pride in the little touches. Mulled wine was lush. Great selection of drinks. Tables outside for when the sun shines. Plenty of parking nearby.

Staff very nice. The food wasn't great. It was a grubby place. Needing a good spruce up. The carpet where we were eating was disgusting. Wouldn't visit again.

Very poor quality, far too expensivefor what we had... stale and quite tasteless. Very small portions, can only blame Green King for that. Lovely staff, Accomadating and attentive. Don't recommend for food, won't eat in Green King again

I was having a bit of banter with the owner, he decided to go on a power trip, wouldn't shake my hand as I went in, and then decided to take offense over nothing, The atmosphere was awful, bar staff unfriendly, terrible place my friends and I would never go again

Welcomed by staff, straight away asking how they could help. Table for two in the front window, accompanied by I assume the landlord stoking a real fire, with banter. Meals ordered and arrived within 15 minutes. Cooked too perfection. Just a great venue to visit.

Spacious and Festive Pub offering Green Kings Beers Wines and Spirits and also features a contemporary menu of food. I had a Cheese Toasty which could have been improved if the Waitress offered any Tomato, Basil or Oregano. A Side of chips was well seasoned and tasted great. £2.09 is about standard for a large cup of tea, but unfortunately for me no alternative milks. The landlord kindly added some wood to the wood burner for me.

Served by Hermione who made sure our table were taken care of for the whole evening. Had the Mac and cheese which was very good.

We went to watch rugby world cup final. Food excellent. Really sorry to have missed pudding. I left it too long and the kitchen had closed! Sound in our area wasn't good at all. Partisan crowd SA won

Me and my business partner came for a meeting at the Jolly Sailor. Was served by the lovely Hermione. Very welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed. What a lovely manager she is.

Traditional harbourside pub with friendly staff, we had the tapas 5 for £22.50 and every dish was excellent especially the Japanese style bbq chicken, and the pretzels with beer cheese, it was so good we visited again 2 days later whilst on holiday in swanage, thankyou so much

Very good pub . Great for sports or just sitting outside in the sunshine . Becoming one of my favourites again . Well managed , which shows in the attitude of all the staff , who are excellent even when under pressure . Foods good as well . Well done to all involved .

We get here today sep 24, at 3.30 pm we order beers for get a dinner. We pay our drinks and when we go to order our food the employees said : ohhh sorry the kitchen is closed!!! What a rude people . I’m ask to talk to the manager and I’m been 5 minutes wait for him and he never come !!’ Never be back . Don’t wast your time here.

Can’t quite believe you wouldn’t let us in to your pub just because we’d been on a boat trip!! Bouncer said no stags, hens or boat trippers!? Surely an amount of common sense is required.. we were two middle aged couples not at all drunk!!

Highly pleasant staff, friendly, efficient making a nice day out that much better. Even the glass collector in the front courtyard was sociable and added to the experience. You seem to have a great team there.

My Husband myself and two nieces booked a Sunday lunch 10th September when we arrived spoke to bar staff they had no knowledge of our booking but asked us to take a seat and they would be happy to serve us. The meal arrived we couldn't believe our eyes ,it was the beef we ordered with Roast potatoes Yorkshire pudding cauliflower cheese pigs in blankets cabbage and peas. The pigs were still uncooked and only one had a blanket, that too was under cooked, one Yorkshire pudding was burnt black my own yorkie was still oozing oil from the centre not cooked, the cauliflower cheese was just sauce no substance whatsoever, the beef was tough but had a nice flavour, the peas were delicious not cabbage was visible. All in all a total waste of money. We had previously had fish and chips here which were amazing and enjoyed by all. The moral to this story is "stick to the fish and chips don't waste your money"

The sports entertainment, especially the Rugby World Cup coverage is fab. The food is great too….what more can you ask for at the quayside. The staff are really attentive to everyone and the kitchen keep rolling out the food. A great team effort with a great leader who keeps the riff-raff in line, which keeps everyone amused by his calm and controlled manner. Roll on the next 4 x days of rugby 🏉🍺

Great pub , excellent sports coverage and the food is very good . The staff coped brilliantly as well considering how busy it was . Overall a very good experience all round , will definitely be back .

Visited here on Tuesday and it was really busy as it was Bike night. Service was really good considering how full they were. Staff were excellent and even got asked if everything was ok with my meal. Definitely would eat here again. No frills great food great service.

Best place on the quays, been here twice since working away, the family feast sharer is 10/10 and the katsu chicken burger is one of the best burgers I've ever had at a reasonable price so cheap for what it is, amazing, the staff are amazing and friendly. Highly highly recommend.

We visit Poole Quay a lot and we have never visited the Jolly Sailor before until today! We were so impressed, the food was really good, and large portions , the nachos were the best we have ever had , burgers were fantastic and the children were really well catered for. It was a very hot and very busy day but we couldn’t fault the lovely and friendly service of the staff , great selection of beer , wines etc. We will definitely be back
