We paid £90 each for each member of my family on Xmas day. Everything was terrible!! Seated nearly 1hr late. Food was coming out different times so no one was eating at the same time. The Xmas dinner itself was very dry and it was obvious a lot of the food had been kept under heat lamps all day. Staff never checked in on us to see how everything was ! Crackers had the same jokes/gifts in !! I personally felt like I had been ripped off . The place was obviously overbooked on Xmas day and not enough staff to manage that. I won’t be visiting again.

Dear The Grasshopper Team and Brewery, I am writing to share my disappointment regarding the experience my family and I had during our Christmas Day dinner at Grasshopper. We hold your establishment in high regard whilst we visit a number of your pubs frequently, which is why this experience was particularly disheartening. From the outset, our booking was mishandled. Despite arriving at 13:55 for our 14:00 reservation, we were not seated until nearly 50 minutes later. Once seated, the delays continued, with starters served in a staggered manner. Some members of our family waited an additional 20 minutes after others had already started eating—a disruption that detracted significantly from the meal’s enjoyment. The quality of the food compounded our disappointment. The roast dinners were excessively dry, with insufficient gravy provided (and subsequent requests unfulfilled). Items such as the roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings were inedible due to being overly hard, likely from prolonged exposure to heat lamps. Additionally, key accompaniments like cranberry sauce were served late, further diminishing the meal’s quality. While the staff were courteous, there was no follow-up during or after the meal to check on our experience. Attempts to raise concerns were either not acknowledged or failed to prompt corrective action. For a meal costing £90 per person—totalling £360 for part of our group which was part of Christmas presents and additional £120 for our others guests it totalled to a meal over £540 for us all—I expected a standard of service and food quality that matched the occasion and price. Unfortunately, this was far from the case. Given the circumstances, I would like to request a form of compensation to reflect the shortfalls in service and food quality we experienced. I trust that you will take this feedback seriously and use it as an opportunity to improve future experiences for your guests. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Yours sincerely, Stevie

Service is absolutely diabolical. Some waiting 15 minutes at the bar whilst the only staff member waltzes around the pub setting tables and ignoring customers. We heard one guy challenging staff as he had ordered on line from the table and order not turned up as they threw the ticket away. Never again!

The Grasshopper is a spacious pub on the main drive between Bournemouth and Poole. It has plenty of car parking and outdoor tables catching morning and afternoon sun, as well as a mix of tables and comfy searing inside. Sandwich lunch out in the sun waw very nicely presented food - several lunch meals later, this can only be described as a first class pub lunch venue. Festive menu has interesting "hash brown bites" options.

35 of us attended a works Christmas function on 13/12/2024, and it was the most badly run car crash of an event I have ever attend: Function Room The tables were bare wood, not nice wood but rough with multitudes of scratches if they were rectangular, I would have thought they were wall paper tables, there had been no effort to place a table cloth on any of them. Who had ever laid the table had not put the correct cutlery down as there were no soup spoons and halve my table had soup, perhaps we could have used the deserts spoons, but only three of us were given dessert spoons, the table decoration was a corporate hat with a QR code on for a free drink. The Chairs where a disgrace there was dirt all over them which could have been brushed of but weren’t, but the white stains on them were not removable. The effort gone into making the room look Christmasy was on a whole new level, a 3ft tree in the corner which was at an angle and a box ¾’s wrapped on a shelf, awesome. Service We were told to be there at 7pm for dinner at 7.30pm, on arrival there was a small bar there, so I ordered a Alcohol free Guiness and a sparkling water but she had to go down stairs to get the water and Glasses for the drinks!!! At 7.30pm we all sat down ready for our dinner, at 8.30pm a lone waitress appeared with 2 Prawn cocktails then disappeared, 15mins later she reappeared along with another member of staff and started handing out the starters she then had to go and get soup spoons we all finished and the two staff came and collected the dishes, we then waited for our main courses at 9.20pm one of the group went down and asked if dinner was coming and was told that it was being plated up, so I went down to get another drink and the two staff that were serving us were working behind the bar serving drinks. At 09.50pm dinner started arriving several of the party having the roast and sat there waiting for the gravy after 15min they gave up and started to eat before it went cold 10 minutes later the waitress appeared with a tray of gravy jugs when someone pointed out it was too late, she said ‘’ I was told to bring them up’’ no apology . A t 1015pm the plates were cleared, and dessert appeared for some, not all as it appears some were missed of the list and when questioned they had to go back to the kitchen although some said not to bother because they had given up the will to live. So all in all 3 HOURS to deliver 35 plates of food that had been pre-ordered. Food The food was of low quality, the soup was tasteless one of the Party requested salt from the staff which never appeared, so he went down stairs and got it from down stairs and the one salt was shared amongst 35, but even the salt could not bring that soup to life, the roast dinners had vegetables missing on the plates so had to request the staff to get some which took them 15minutes the only decent bit of food was the Pie, so I guess they brought that in from an outside source however that was ruined by it sat on a small amount of watery mashed potato, my wife and I had the warm apple pie with custard which was not warm and nor was the custard and my apple pie was different from my wife’s and squashed flat and reminded me so much of an Aunt Bessie’s shop apple pie, lucky there is a Tesco’s near by!! I cannot blame the staff for everything although they did not endear themselves to us, this is a management fault, the booking had been taken but they had not the staff or inclination to make it a memorable one except for all the wrong reasons will I be returning, not if I live to be a 1000 yrs old

Xmas function upstairs. By far the worst experience function I have ever been too, being ex military and in my 50s I feel I know what to expect. Where to start without being picky. 1. Bar was opened briefly and over an hour later than customers turned up. 2. Food I had no complaints, even though served in installments. Others did. 3. Even though I asked for salt during starter. It was not available even when main meal turned up (over an hour later than starter had finished). 4. Staff that was working in bar and serving our food. I saw working downstairs. Yes we had to go down stairs to get drinks. 5. Gravy turned up after majority had finished our meal. Still no salt. 6. We had a 6.30 for 7.30 pm start and and at 2210hrs no deserts yet served. 7. Don't ask about atmosphere or decorations. All I will say. Chairs where minging. No table cloths. Ie decorations we had a Christmas tree and a hat mmm In short, I hope those that had booked a function downstairs had a better experience and service than us 40 have had. Book downstairs is my overall point of this review.

Was very disappointed with lunch today The soup was in a very small bowl filled only half full with two massive slices of supermarket bread that was supposed to be whole grain on the side Asked if it was because they had had a rush on soup and that was the last remaining they could manage. Was told no and he walked away ! I asked if I could have some butter to go with the bread and was brought slabs of margarine . My daughter’s drink glass had red lipstick on the rim , so we didn’t order anything else and decided not to have the big Christmas meal we were planning and studying the menu for next week . Pub is cosy and the bar lady was lovely

Just in for a cup of tea with a group of people. Been coming for at least 2 years every week. Service is usually mediocre to poor. Staff seem incapable of delivering 15 teas/coffees quickly and efficiently. Today was different. My partner works here, so definitely a bit bias. Workers get tokens to get discounts, so it was around a £50+ meal but we spent under £20. Food is normally pretty good, best to see the menu before comming as it changes and some dishes are a bit lack-luster. 1 point down on atmosphere is mainly due to how loud it can be, its hard to relax when you're hearing 20+ conversations. But my autism does affect that. Overall great food and friendly staff

I had one of the worst dining experiences ever. The staff seemed overwhelmed and rushed, which made service very slow. I had to ask twice for drinks, and our food arrived lukewarm and nearly inedible (chicken wings were slimy and cold, with barely any sauce; nachos were dry and like cardboard). After watching it sit on the counter, we had to ask the staff to check on our meal before it was finally brought to us. They didn’t check on us to ask us how the food was (probably because they knew it was dire) during the meal. The wine was decent, but they mistakenly tried to bring us another bottle 45 minutes later, insisting we had ordered it, when in reality we had to chase our drinks due to the slow service. I’ve had much better food and service at a Spoons.

I used to always love going to the grasshopper, as it was an affordable and great pub to go to, but without any warning the carpark is suddenly a paid car park? A night that I spent good money on drink here has now cost me an addition £100 on parking fee and made me never want to come back? There is not enough signs to show this, for someone visiting at night also no lighting for me to even know it’s suddenly paid?! So upset with this parking fine!

Visited this Sunday at 3:30 for the Sunday Roast. Alarm bells rang immediately. No one to greet you, stood by the “wait here to be seated” seated for 5 minutes, seemed to be extremely short staffed. Made our way to the bar, waited for what seemed an eternity to be even acknowledged. No apologies for late service. Ordered drinks and was disappointed that a brewery pub of this size doesn’t have alcohol free lager on tap. Placed our orders at the bar and waited an eternity for the starter to arrive. No one came and checked or cleared the table. The place was almost empty by now. Ordered more drinks at the bar and had to ask for our mains, “Oh, haven’t you had those yet” Two roast beef dinners eventually arrived. And the starter plates were removed at the same time! Personally for £19:95 each I would expect a whole lot more. It’s was acceptable but definitely NOT exceptional!!! Cauliflower cheese (as a £5:95 extra) was as bland as it comes and like all the other veg, seemed to have been cooked hours ago and reheated. Roast beef advertised as “served pink” was dry, grey and unappealing. Small gravy boats of lukewarm gravy. No one came and asked if everything was ok, no one seemed to care anyway. No one seemed to be interested or in charge. Place seems to be staffed with teenagers and young adults trying their best, but definitely not front of house trained. So £75 later, for 3 bottles of non alcoholic lager, one pint of Diet Coke, Camembert shared starter, two roast beef dinners and a £5:95 cauliflower something, were we satisfied? No!! Were we disappointed? Yes!!! On payment, were was asked if everything ok?? No!!!!! Definitely the worst experience of a Sunday roast in years. Stuck away in the cold corner of a huge pub, away from main dining room, left to our own devices and generally ignored Definitely NOT recommended on this performance 2/10 Hall & Woodhouse you should be ashamed. Get a grip!!!!!

My partner and I booked ahead for a 2pm table, were directed to our seats and asked if we wanted table service, so we said yes. Half an hour later, still no one had turned up to take our order so I had to go to the bar (which was busy and understaffed). I put in our food order and went back to my table. Half an hour later, no food had arrived. My partner asked the barman if the heating could be put on (there is a sort of firepit thing near the tables) but she was informed that there had been a suspected gas leak and they were waiting for confirmation whether it was safe to turn on!!! In the end, my partner had to put her coat on and other diners were doing the same. I asked the barman for an update on our food and he went to the kitchen. He arrived around 5 or 10 mins later with the food. Despite my initial disappointment about waiting an hour for the food (and despite the fact that we had pre-booked the table) seeing as I was starving, I was glad to see it. For £19 I expected more than 3 roast potatoes, a chicken leg, a slither of stuffing, a blob of red cabbage, some peas, an anorexic parsnip and a yorkshire pudding that resembled a leather baseball glove (and was twice as brittle). I took one bite of a carrot and found that it was cold. The potatoes and chicken was also bordering on frozen. My partner took a bite of her food and hers was cold too, which was odd as she had the beef. Considering the fact that the food took so long, my guess is that it sat around in the kitchen for a while and was forgotten about, and then by the time it came to us, it was stone cold. The barman took the food away and promised that replacements would come soon, but by that point we were already disappointed and not to mention starving. Fresh plates came out a few minutes later (this time accompanied by a pot of gravy and an extra parsnip). I said to the barman that we didn't get given gravy with our previous meals, and he said "We don't usually, but the chef has given it to you this time". That struck me as a bit odd, and then I recalled that my ex-wife often used to serve cold dinners but then drown everything in steaming hot gravy so no one noticed (but that wasn't why I divorced her). Presumably she wasn't employed in the kitchen on this occasion... Oh, and you'd think that after having a customer complain about the quality of the food, basic common sense would make you pop over once they'd had their replacement meals just to check that things were all right...but no. No one came over to check whether we enjoyed our meal, and no one gave any impression whatsoever that they cared whether we were satisfied customers or not. Over £40 later (we also order cauliflower cheese which tasted of neither cauliflower nor cheese but some sort of chalky substance that defied categorization) my partner and I left and swore never to return. On our way out we saw a sign saying that roast dinners were "only £10 after 5pm" and I have to say that if they are up to the same standard as the ones served before 5pm, you'd be better off getting a meal deal from the Tesco down the road.

A lovely pub but the food is very poor. The staff are great, the atmosphere is good and although the prices are high the alcohol options are fine. It’s the food that lets it down hugely. We have been coming to this pub for many years and it used to be a good go to for impromptu dinners out. Unless Something changes dramatically we won’t eat there again. The prawn cocktail I had was not good. The prawns were so small I wouldn’t even be sure they were prawns! The sauce was ok if a little vinegary. The main course of southern fried burger was disappointing. The burger is obviously frozen and deep fried which if paying under £10 could be excused but it was much more than that. This used to be a great pub for food - what has happened!! It is a real shame.

This place is going downhill fast. Initially ordered 2 pints of beer Fursty Ferret and Tanglefoot Hall two of Hall and Woodhouse better beers. I was told there's was no Tanglefoot. This is the second time this has happened and the last time was around a year ago so to hear that again was ridiculous in my opinion. Booked a table and at a busy time it was virtually empty in the restaurant area, a group of 3 people, a couple who looked fed up and me and a friend. Ordered the flat iron steak to be told they didn't have any so disappointing, gave an alternative from the menu and they didn't have that either so I asked " what do you have "? I was told that most of what was on menu wasn't available apart from a burger or fish and chips, Didn't really want either but the burger was on a deal for £10 instead of nearly £18. When it arrived the bun was dry and left most of it, the burger was burnt on the outside and because it was overcooked it was tough and dry as you'd expect from something overdone. It wasn't worth £10 let alone nearly £18....i mean WHAT???Before requesting the steak I had ordered a prawn cocktail as I hadn't had one in ages and steak to follow. Having been told no steak I was going to cancel the prawn cocktail but thought it would make a bad choice meal better. Oh how wrong I was. For nearly £8 I got some limp lettuce with a not very tasty Rose Marie sauce but no prawns, what I got was microscopic shrimps and not that many, so that followed by the worse burger I've had just about summed my experience up. A terrible place whereby after a year though id give it another go, I wish i hadn't as it was worse than before and will NEVER go back. .

Really tasty food and the friendliest staff members. 😋 I've visited The Grasshopper multiple times with my partner and dog and they have consistently been wonderful, and even offered our young doggo treats ❤️

We visited due to hearing about how good the Roast Dinners were! Luckily these did not disappoint, the roast dinner was good portions and good meat! My husband had a burger which was also very tasty. We also tried some starters, some were good however my sister in law had some halloumi fries with an added chicken wing - not good at all! Especially if veggie, manager didn’t seemed bothered when we told him. The service was slow, the staff seemed stressed and unbothered. The drinks machine was also broken, I guess this is why they were stressed. Got seated on a benched table (wasn’t happy with this as wanted a nice family dinner but due to dog had to sit there). Maybe it needs to be more casual or they are need to try harder to impress! Wouldn’t rush back…

This is always a good venue. Went on a Thursday before 12 and unsurprisingly, it was very quiet. This meant there was little atmosphere compared with previous visits. It was not helped by the fact that staff were filling condiments on the bar and replenishing sauce bottles etc in our direct view. There also seems to be a lack of space for managers to do their admin work and take phone calls without being in the dining area just a couple of tables away from us. This seems to be common practice now in a lot of cafes and restaurants. The back office routines would better suited away from customers. Staff were very good and happy to allow us time to make our choices. Food was very nice, nicely presented, hot and good quantity and quality. I am fortunate enough to be a Blue Light card holder and this was accepted with no fuss and actually welcomed. Would be happy to go here anytime with friends to eat or just enjoy a drink. Good use of space, with an area of comfy library like seating, a nicely appointed bar and a good dining area away from the general hubbub.

Mums birthday awful Stay very clear of this place the service is shocking we had to keep getting up getting drinks, I ordered a pie pacifically asked if white sauce was in the chicken and bacon pie I got a firm NO so I ordered then to find it has white sauce in so sent the back and ordered a chicken and bacon salad had to wait 20 mins for big mistake it’s a joke just ONE chicken strip cut up to me it should be a grilled chicken cut up and one slice of bacon the salad was warm it was horrible no check back was given throughout we had to call them back a number of times the other mains were okay only thing they do know is how to make a burger it’s not rocket science then to top it off we were never asked if we wanted teas coffees or puddings the bill was just given to us like a just go we got the feeling of and the manager doesn’t know what he’s doing at all he replied I thought the waitress asked no she didn’t it’s called communication I work in the hospitality trade myself you learn your menu and give people a good service this was not it you all need retrain If I’m being very honest I shouldn’t of even payed £81 for the bill that’s with 33% off the bill The fish and chips were okay the batter was to thick

This pub is fine for drinks but the food is very hit and miss as well as pricey for what it is. Had a Saturday lunch with friends and it was very quiet. Current menu is unfortunately very limited and the chicken salad I chose was so small that I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw it !! Tons of croutons, 3 cherry tomatoes, some chicken on a bed of greenery - all that for £13! Wouldn’t go back for food. All 5 of us were disappointed by experience. Love the library though.

It is a lovely place, spacious inside, with a nice seating areas outside, parking available. Not sure if the food order was mixed up at the bar when I ordered, or in the kitchen, but I was brought some kind of loaded fries instead of halloumi ones. The tiny bowl of salad for £3 is a rip off, as you get the big bowl of the same green leaves from any shop for less than a £1. Seen the burgers and glad I didn't go for one as it isn't worth £18. The waiter was coming to us with orders no one ordered, so there must be something wrong with the system. Drinks are also overpriced and unfortunately I can't recommend it to my friends.

Came in last night for burger Wednesday where all burgers are £9,95 very disappointing food if that had been full price I would have complained,we waited a while and my partner noticed two meals on counter under the heat plate ,it was eventually bought to table ,plates were piping hot with top of chips and bun had dried out due to being left under the heat plate ,we left most of it the actual chicken burger was Luke warm ,never again unfortunately

Food was absolutely terrible 15 pound for 3 sausages that taste like they have been on a heater all day and a poxy scoop of mash the onion gravy was non existent and for some reason had an onion ring on top....if you want to charge people for decent food you shouldn't be serving stuff worse than what I can get in a £2 ready meal....

We came mid week for a birthday lunch. We found the place to be cosy and inviting. We each ordered a different meal from the menu, all which was really delicious. However, we ordered ‘two half pints of lager’ and when they were served to our table, they were pints. But as it was a birthday lunch we let it go. One of us ordered a coffee with a ‘mini dessert’ which was clearly on the menu. When it was served up, we said to the server, if this is mini, what is the large one like? He assured us it was the mini dessert. Of course when we came to pay, we were told the ‘mini dessert offer ended yesterday’! There was no mention of the mini dessert being on any ‘specials offer’. We were offered something off here and there, which was no good to us, but as it was a special lunch we let it all go. We had a really nice time at the Grasshopper, staff were really friendly, and as mentioned food was very nice. We will definitely be back, but will make sure we get what we order.

We came on a Sunday after 5pm, and we didn't know you could get a roast for £10, so I thought the waitress had made a mistake in charging us just £24. The food was great, the tastiest veggie I have ever tried, even the peas were not as plastic as anywhere in the UK. The atmosphere is another plus: one of the few nice pubs in the area, with cosy sofas and antique objects placed everywhere, even a scale in the loo. It also has a well-seized car park, if you're planning to drive there. Highly recommended!

Lovely big pub with great decor and some good meal deals there. Nice fire , locals public bar nice beer garden but very disappointed with wine. Large glass of chilean sauvignon £8.95 which not only is overpriced but tasted disgusting. A straw coloured wine is always a bad sign. Even pints at £5.50 was excessive. Cheaper in town centre.
