This is a really interesting looking restaurant but unfortunately the food was just average. I don't think the Roast beef was worth anywhere close to what I paid for it.

Had a 40th birthday here and they were all so helpful in making sure the night went the best for myself and my guests couldn't of asked for a better service or more friendlier staff recommended to anyone who's thinking about it

I recently hosted a baby shower party at Grasshopper, and it was an absolutely delightful experience! From start to finish, the staff were attentive, accommodating, and truly went above and beyond to make the day special. Decor was handled by us so we have full access to the room upstairs before. Highly recommend Grasshopper for anyone planning a baby shower or intimate celebration. We left with full hearts and lots of compliments from our guests!

We had a lovely roast beef dinner and a pint here today, and it was very nice indeed! Friendly and helpful staff, lovely surroundings, and a nice little beer garden made it a very pleasant visit. Highly recommend!

This is my local and I’ve been here when it’s been heaving and nice and quiet and it’s just the best pub if you want to socialise or chill with a book. All the staff have always been really lovely and Phil (I believe the manager?) has been a fantastic face of the grasshopper so far and really down to earth when I’ve been in for a drink and some food.

Attended for a birthday gathering this evening. Was served at the bar by Jordan who was absolutely great - super friendly and helpful. And even agreed to get some chips cooked for my six year old, despite the kitchen being closed! Thank you :)

Not having eaten here yet I am unable to review the food. But I have been 4 times recently as part of our antinatal class and we utilised one of the function rooms upstairs. I found the staff to be friendly and knowledgeable and the atmosphere to be positive each time we came. I’m looking forward to eating when our Little Man settles into routines.

We really can’t say how much we love coming to this place. From the welcoming smiles from the staff, awesome talks with everyone and the best pints around. If ever you want great food and even better atmosphere, you’ve found your place! Special mention to Phil and Izzy for always going the extra mile. Suddenly decided to meet our Niece and go for Sunday lunch. Managed to get a booking. Roast was wonderful, plenty of everything. In fact we couldn’t manage a dessert. We were served by Jenna, who was very attentive. Will definitely be back.

We booked a table for 13 on Sat 29th March @18:45 for my birthday. This was the worst meal/ service I have had in a very long time. Our starters were not served until after 9pm & mains close to 10pm. One of the chairs one of our party sat on broke & he hurt himself. Two people in our party don't eat pork for religious reasons, ordered a chicken burger that came with bacon which wasn't on the menu !! We saw the chefs throwing cheese at each other in the open kitchen. The food once received was mediocre.I felt sorry for the waitress who was lovely but embarrassed at the service we received. Sorry to say we won't go there again !!

The food I had this time wasn't great but it was only cheesy chips. Had much better food on previous visits. The rest of the service, atmosphere and facilities were great.

Really clean, good atmosphere, great meeting place good food but beware of the car park, not owned by the pub and you'll be fined if you dont register your car at the bar on arrival. Hopefully mine sorted.

A cozy pub, every corner has a different experience and furnishings which I found fascinating. The food is great and reasonably priced ,a good selection of beers for every taste. Highly recommend.

Came in for lunch and was greeted warmly by Izzy! Sat us down to our table. The service was amazing and the food was delicious, will definitely be coming back and would definitely recommend coming here!

Had a disappointing experience at The Grasshopper Pub & Restaurant. Stopped in for a well-earned beer after work, only to be met with poor service and a complete lack of knowledge from the barmaid (blonde, glasses, pigtails). Ordered a Cruzcampo—told the keg was acting up all day. Fine, we switched to Birra Moretti instead. What we got? Two completely flat pints with zero head. When I asked if they were supposed to be like that, she insisted Moretti was meant to be flat and should be stirred with a straw first. She even grabbed a random straw, stirred both beers, and watched them go even flatter. Completely baffling, clueless untrained barmaid. Later, my colleague ordered two more, specifying not flat this time. She said, "The gas must be out," to which she replied, "Ah, I'm on my own, so I don't have anyone around that can change it." So, after all that, it wasn’t a ‘flat-style beer’ or a special technique—just a keg with no gas. And yet, she kept serving flat beer to every customer instead of fixing the issue. The inconsistency, lack of product knowledge, and unwillingness to resolve the problem were frustrating. Management needs to ensure staff are properly trained and supported to maintain basic standards. Customers expect—and deserve—better. Also, beware of the car parking scam they have going there. Not sure if it's related to my review but I've just received a parking charge of £100 even though I was a customer of the pub.... absolutely disgusting !!!

Poor service , had starter then asked a few times for mains , in the end ended taking starter plates and drink glasses back to bar as no one asked how starters were ok ? 45 mins before mains came out , only after asking again !!!!

Had a great experience this evening at The Grasshopper. At a loose end for a bite to eat and thought we’d give it a go. Really happy we did. We were looked after by Neil and Phil. The service was fantastic. Great interaction and conversation. The food was really enjoyable and served in a timely manner that you’d want and expect. No waiting around, just what we needed. Thanks Gents and complements to the Chef. We’ll be back.

I've been I like to think a loyal customer of The Grasshopper for the past five years, and it has always been a lovely place with great service and a warm atmosphere. However, over my last few visits, I've noticed a steady decline, and unfortunately, tonight was no exception. The pub was cold, and several tables remained uncleared for the entire hour I was there. Despite the size of the venue, there seemed only three staff members were on duty, struggling to serve both the bar and restaurant, which clearly isn’t enough. The raised area, which used to have a cozy fire adding to the charm, was once again left unlit. Instead, it now seems to function more as a kids' play area. Additionally, the overall atmosphere has changed there seems to be a few people not rushing to the bar lets say which doesn’t help create the vibrant and welcoming environment the pub once had. I’m not sure what has happened behind the scenes, but The Grasshopper Pub is certainly not what it used to be.

Has been my local since I moved into the area and honestly what is there not to love- great food, decent beer and lovely atmosphere, plus all the crew are lovely. Always glad to be greeted by Jordan and have a good chat 👌

Good quizmaster. Good atmosphere. Good pinot noir. Very, very poor quality sausages. Mash so so. Reported vomit in one of the urinal bowls which appeared to have been there sometime. Still there 2 hours later! Overall, not my experience of a Hall & Woodhouse pub!!

As an older person l still loved this place. I have not been there since it changed from the Halfway Hotel. Good selection of drinks but you have to like badger beer if you want a beer ir larger from the pumps. Toilets were the only problem with this place it was very busy and they were backed up and the floor became a swimming pool.

First evening visit to this pub. A table of 13 . Could not fault a single thing! Food was delicious 😋 but the service was excellent. Our waitress Jenna went above and beyond to make sure everyone was happy. Double checked the order carefully before returning to the kitchen. Jenna noticed my disabled Father struggling to get through on his mobility scooter and immediately helped by moving tables and chairs for him. All of us commented how good she was. Thank you Jenna we will definitely return soon and spread the word about such an enjoyable evening 😊

Booked a table at 7:00 got seated at 7:30. Ordered food at 8:00 got the food at 9:10. Overall pretty shocking service and food was mediocre.

Definitely not kid-friendly. Disgusting atmosphere, dirty tables and toilets, poor service, and bad food. I do not recommend this place. And unfortunately, the kids stopped running as we left five minutes after you approached us. Every day, we visit different restaurants, pubs, and cafés, and we have never had any problems. Almost everywhere, people love kids, and the environment is kid-friendly. So don’t blame my kids for your unprofessional attitude. The kids running around doesn’t change the fact that your place has poor hygiene and bad food. I have already reported you to the FSA and BCP and taken some photos of the sticky table and the disgusting toilet. Instead of making excuses and acting important, raise your standards and improve your service.

Popped into The Grasshopper and had a great time. Jack was spot on with my drink and very welcoming and friendly and made sure everything was just right. The fish and chips were proper tasty. The place has a lovely cozy feel to it, especially with the fire going – it’s warm and welcoming, perfect for relaxing on a chilly day. Loved that it’s dog-friendly as well, with water bowls for the pups. All in all, a brilliant little spot, and I’ll definitely be back.

Big pub with lots of seating. Service was relatively quick. Menu is decent, standard pub food. The chicken burger with BBQ mayo was pretty tasty, food portions are decent. No complaints

Great menu, fantastic staff. Went for post- holiday team gathering. Had a long table to ourselves, including spaces for 2 wheelchairs. Easy to get around inside. Friendly and helpful staff. Quiet but not silent. Good range of food. Went on a Saturday between 12-2.30pm.

They go the extra mile for dogs by welcoming them, a barrel of water for when they get thirsty and lots of treats readily available for free for your four legged friend.. Inedible beef with not a hint of pink i think my shoe would have been easier to ingest. Potatoes dry to the point of tasteless, parsnips were just like mush, carrots over cooked peas and leak over boiled i have never left so much food on my plate. We were asked if we had any food allergies and we said my wife cannot eat onion but she still got served the leak and peas then when we complained the server didn't understand that leaks and onions are similar. I offered to pay for the drinks and one of the meals but was only charged for the drinks, his manner was rude and the fact he argued about leaks not being onions made it all a very un pleasant experience. Being local we will never eat there again, or recommend anyone we know to eat there.

Great meal in a friendly restaurant.

In novemeber which was the Second time I had food. The fish pie was brilliant highly recommend it. Fast forward to 6/1/25, I received a parking fine. Ok we didn't know we had to input our reg (really wasn't paying attention to signs outside), when we noticed, we spoke to the girl behind the bar said "write your details down ill correct the info' (amazing). I made a phone call to speak to the GM (Phil). I explained what happened, Phil couldn't of been more helpful. Phil took my details and has contacted the park fine company and sorted out the fine. This is amazing customer service. Thank Phil and team. Highly recommend coming here. I certainly will be back to personally say thank you.

An excellent brewery owned pub with well-kept ales, a nice food menu and helpful friendly staff. I have eaten here several times and always go vack when visiting relatives nearby.

This pub needs to remove the man doing the pub quize, making some exceedingly rude jokes that were in poor taste. I would cut ties immediately to a man making Greg Wallace jokes.

Went in today for lunch, and was seated very quickly, our waiter, Will was very cheery and happy to help. Overall the food was superb and the atmosphere was warm and friendly, I would definitely recommend the grasshopper to anyone out there looking for a great Sunday roast.

I dined here on New year's eve and there was plenty of availability when booking which was great because I made the booking quite last minute. The atmosphere and vibe of the pub was really nice and welcoming. The staff were all friendly. The food was tasty and reasonably priced. I was happy with my experience and would attend again

Dear The Grasshopper Team and Brewery, I am writing to share my disappointment regarding the experience my family and I had during our Christmas Day dinner at Grasshopper. We hold your establishment in high regard whilst we visit a number of your pubs frequently, which is why this experience was particularly disheartening. From the outset, our booking was mishandled. Despite arriving at 13:55 for our 14:00 reservation, we were not seated until nearly 50 minutes later. Once seated, the delays continued, with starters served in a staggered manner. Some members of our family waited an additional 20 minutes after others had already started eating—a disruption that detracted significantly from the meal’s enjoyment. The quality of the food compounded our disappointment. The roast dinners were excessively dry, with insufficient gravy provided (and subsequent requests unfulfilled). Items such as the roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings were inedible due to being overly hard, likely from prolonged exposure to heat lamps. Additionally, key accompaniments like cranberry sauce were served late, further diminishing the meal’s quality. While the staff were courteous, there was no follow-up during or after the meal to check on our experience. Attempts to raise concerns were either not acknowledged or failed to prompt corrective action. For a meal costing £90 per person—totalling £360 for part of our group which was part of Christmas presents and additional £120 for our others guests it totalled to a meal over £540 for us all—I expected a standard of service and food quality that matched the occasion and price. Unfortunately, this was far from the case. Given the circumstances, I would like to request a form of compensation to reflect the shortfalls in service and food quality we experienced. I trust that you will take this feedback seriously and use it as an opportunity to improve future experiences for your guests. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Yours sincerely, Stevie

We paid £90 each for each member of my family on Xmas day. Everything was terrible!! Seated nearly 1hr late. Food was coming out different times so no one was eating at the same time. The Xmas dinner itself was very dry and it was obvious a lot of the food had been kept under heat lamps all day. Staff never checked in on us to see how everything was ! Crackers had the same jokes/gifts in !! I personally felt like I had been ripped off . The place was obviously overbooked on Xmas day and not enough staff to manage that. I won’t be visiting again.

We had our Christmas dinner and pleasantly impressed by the speed of serive and the exceptionally lovely staff that served us today, food was hot, not exceptional but we did not go there expecting exceptional but we're very happy with the food we received. Service is absolutely diabolical. Some waiting 15 minutes at the bar whilst the only staff member waltzes around the pub setting tables and ignoring customers. We heard one guy challenging staff as he had ordered on line from the table and order not turned up as they threw the ticket away. Never again!

35 of us attended a works Christmas function on 13/12/2024, and it was the most badly run car crash of an event I have ever attend: Function Room The tables were bare wood, not nice wood but rough with multitudes of scratches if they were rectangular, I would have thought they were wall paper tables, there had been no effort to place a table cloth on any of them. Who had ever laid the table had not put the correct cutlery down as there were no soup spoons and halve my table had soup, perhaps we could have used the deserts spoons, but only three of us were given dessert spoons, the table decoration was a corporate hat with a QR code on for a free drink. The Chairs where a disgrace there was dirt all over them which could have been brushed of but weren’t, but the white stains on them were not removable. The effort gone into making the room look Christmasy was on a whole new level, a 3ft tree in the corner which was at an angle and a box ¾’s wrapped on a shelf, awesome. Service We were told to be there at 7pm for dinner at 7.30pm, on arrival there was a small bar there, so I ordered a Alcohol free Guiness and a sparkling water but she had to go down stairs to get the water and Glasses for the drinks!!! At 7.30pm we all sat down ready for our dinner, at 8.30pm a lone waitress appeared with 2 Prawn cocktails then disappeared, 15mins later she reappeared along with another member of staff and started handing out the starters she then had to go and get soup spoons we all finished and the two staff came and collected the dishes, we then waited for our main courses at 9.20pm one of the group went down and asked if dinner was coming and was told that it was being plated up, so I went down to get another drink and the two staff that were serving us were working behind the bar serving drinks. At 09.50pm dinner started arriving several of the party having the roast and sat there waiting for the gravy after 15min they gave up and started to eat before it went cold 10 minutes later the waitress appeared with a tray of gravy jugs when someone pointed out it was too late, she said ‘’ I was told to bring them up’’ no apology . A t 1015pm the plates were cleared, and dessert appeared for some, not all as it appears some were missed of the list and when questioned they had to go back to the kitchen although some said not to bother because they had given up the will to live. So all in all 3 HOURS to deliver 35 plates of food that had been pre-ordered. Food The food was of low quality, the soup was tasteless one of the Party requested salt from the staff which never appeared, so he went down stairs and got it from down stairs and the one salt was shared amongst 35, but even the salt could not bring that soup to life, the roast dinners had vegetables missing on the plates so had to request the staff to get some which took them 15minutes the only decent bit of food was the Pie, so I guess they brought that in from an outside source however that was ruined by it sat on a small amount of watery mashed potato, my wife and I had the warm apple pie with custard which was not warm and nor was the custard and my apple pie was different from my wife’s and squashed flat and reminded me so much of an Aunt Bessie’s shop apple pie, lucky there is a Tesco’s near by!! I cannot blame the staff for everything although they did not endear themselves to us, this is a management fault, the booking had been taken but they had not the staff or inclination to make it a memorable one except for all the wrong reasons will I be returning, not if I live to be a 1000 yrs old

Xmas function upstairs. By far the worst experience function I have ever been too, being ex military and in my 50s I feel I know what to expect. Where to start without being picky. 1. Bar was opened briefly and over an hour later than customers turned up. 2. Food I had no complaints, even though served in installments. Others did. 3. Even though I asked for salt during starter. It was not available even when main meal turned up (over an hour later than starter had finished). 4. Staff that was working in bar and serving our food. I saw working downstairs. Yes we had to go down stairs to get drinks. 5. Gravy turned up after majority had finished our meal. Still no salt. 6. We had a 6.30 for 7.30 pm start and and at 2210hrs no deserts yet served. 7. Don't ask about atmosphere or decorations. All I will say. Chairs where minging. No table cloths. Ie decorations we had a Christmas tree and a hat mmm In short, I hope those that had booked a function downstairs had a better experience and service than us 40 have had. Book downstairs is my overall point of this review.

Very welcoming even on a busy Monday night, I was acknoldged by Jack with a hello and be with you shortly. (Always nice to know they’ve seen you)I was just popping in after visiting a person in hospital and fancied a nice pot of decaf tea, we came in Saturday night and had food I had smothered chicken with skinny fries and corn nibs, fiancé had the smothered chicken burger with chunky chip lovely and tasty and hot.
