Visted Southwold for the first time this year, today. Fancied a quick cuppa and saw that this had taken the space previously taken up by Costa. Was instantly welcomed by the batista. Order was given, and we went and sat down. Others in the café were having the afternoon tea and that looked fabulous! We settled with a fruit scone (asked jam choice!) and a tea-cake. Huge pot of tea, which did 4.5 cups, was very nice. Will definitely go back....maybe for afternoon tea!!

I waited 20 minutes for someone to take my order. Another table who has arrived before me kept going to the till to ask for service but we’re told someone would come to take orders. No-one did. I don’t know if they waited but I left.

This place looks so inviting from outside, but inside looks like a cheap chain. I should have left straight away. I ordered an afternoon tea with warm scones and my husband ordered a beer. Young man delivered the drinks, putting his fingers inside the glasses to lift them and holding the water glasses around the top where your mouth will touch. If you’ve ever worked in hospitality you are taught to not touch the top of a drinking vessel. Hold the base. The beer glass was grubby so we sent it back, we didn’t touch the water. The scones were cold not warm and rather dry. Grim experience. Tiptree is a strong brand. Why open cheap crappy cafes?? Avoid

We visited the tearoom, initially to just purchase some items that they sell, but we did however stay for a drink and cake, cake being the cheapest item to eat on the menu. I had Bakewell Tart which was absolutely delicious, and I would highly recommend it. The member of staff that served as was very professional.

Almost walked by this lovely tea room (as we had a couple of days previous) as we couldn't see a menu in the window. However I realised that everything displayed was colour coordinated and then spotted the menu which had a lovely choice of light lunches especially intrigued by the "quiche of the day". On entering we were greeted and asked if we wanted food or just drinks and given menu and advised we could sit anywhere we wished. There was ample room in the nicely decorated, spotless seating area, there was also seating outside but we decided the weather was a bit too hit and miss to risk the table in the sunshine. A very nice guy came to take our order and we asked about the quiche to find this was brie, bacon and cranberry, sounded yummy so hubby and I both chose this along with a couple of lattes. The drinks arrived almost immediately followed by our lunches. The portion of quiche was of a generous size and served with 4 new potatoes, salad and coleslaw. I asked for some additional mayonnaise and was given a small pot of Tiptree mayo! The quiche was beautiful, cheesy, full of bacon with a hint of cranberry, I struggled to finish mine as it was extremely filling but hubby demolished his with ease. I really wish we had spotted this lovely tea room before as we would have loved to revisit, but unfortunately this was the last day of our holiday.

We arrived full of expectations! It would be our 3rd afternoon tea here. However the new summer menu meant we couldn’t pay a premium and have toasted sandwiches. They are awesome and always have at least 2 fillings. We revisited the choices and had a shared cream tea and toasted sandwiches. We were happily full, but due to the new rule had spent less than if we’d had an afternoon tea. Room for an ice cream we decided.

This is the second time we have visited this premises, the last time was several years ago and on that visit we decided not to return again. However to be fair we mistakenly decided to give it another try. We had the quiche Lorraine salad, sadly it was as bad as our last visit, the slice of quiche was to small, the salad was the type with various leaves it appeared to be straight out of a plastic bag, from a supermarket it did not look very fresh and was quite dry, there was a grossly overcooked small jacked potato the skin was burnt and the contents barely warm despite given 2 butter packs that sadly had no chance of melting into the cold potato, finally the coleslaw needed chopping up smaller. Sorry we paid £13 ish for this salad and have decided not to return again. We have visited other Tiptree premises in Chelmsford. The staff were friendly. Send your staff to the Black Cat cafes in the Southwold area where you can see good fresh looking salad with a large quiche.

Our first visit and we decided on afternoon tea, we were really impressed. Harry looked after us and his service was exemplary. The sandwich and toastie options we chose were first class, the fruit scones were clearly home made and the portions were really generous. Overall a fantastic experience and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to any visiting Southwold. Thank you and 5 stars in every department.

Waited 40 minutes for food from ordering, when it arrived it was wrong. As we booked for afternoon tea but just a sandwich arrived. 15 mins later, the afternoon tea arrived. We had no plates, no jam for scones until I went up to the counter. The food itself was lovely but the staff are just not organised and it not like it was really busy

It is a lovely little café with excellent sandwiches and cakes! The staff are super lovely and very kind, we asked for one of our toasties to have onion instead of tomato and they even swapped out the tomatoes on the salad. I definitely recommend the halloumi and tomato toastie (the onion relish was delicious). The prices were quite good, we each had a toastie and a cake for around £13. Dogs are welcome here, even inside which was great for us. I was very impressed with the service, the staff were both very kind and on the ball in regard to clearing tables. I would definitely highly recommend paying a visit here.

Clearly a lack of enthusiastic staff. Tables not cleaned after clearing, untidy staff and dirty toilets. For lunchtime, very few covers so no excuse for tables. The food was acceptable. On passing the shop later in the evening, the table in the window had sugar granules which should have been wiped before closing. It is such a pity that hygiene has slipped since COVID has become less of a concern for some.

The cafe was very quiet compared to other establishments in the High St! In the past we’ve visited the “mothership” in Essex and been impressed with the quality and service - not quite reach Suffolk yet. My complaint was politely dealt with and the bill reduced - thank you. But I don’t think we’ll be returning in the future.

Today we went to Tiptree tearoom for tea and cake. We Arrived at 3.33 and were immediately told the restaurant was closed and we could only buy things in their front shop. We asked what time they had closed the tearoom but were not given a direct answer. We then said did it close at 3.30? The lady replied it closes at 4pm to which we said it was now still only 3.35. She then grudgingly said we could go in but would have to leave at 4pm. By then we felt unwanted so left.

First visit to Southwold, wanted somewhere to sit indoors for lunch. Came across this lovely cafe. Menu choices were great for us, as there was many vegetarian options available. We both had a sandwich then a cream tea for two which came with 2 scones cream, jam and choice of tea or coffee. Service was great, food was tasty and presented well. Very poor experience. Advised there had been no avocado delivery so half the breakfast menu wasn't available. Opted for the vegetarian breakfast and the scrambled eggs were so rubbery you could have bounced them off the floor. The food was tepid and very unimaginatively presented. So disappointing and wouldn't recommend this place to anyone for breakfast!

Whilst visiting Southwold today I popped my head round the door at the tearooms to find out if they were dog-friendly - absolutely, was the reply so we called in. The tearoom is like the TARDIS it gets more spacious as you walk through. There is a lovely seating area at the back and also a patio area outside for when the weather is warmer. Light, airy and welcoming. The staff were friendly and helpful & we enjoyed a piping hot coffee. Also for sale a selection of Wilkins jams, chutneys and also gin! I treated myself to some quince jam for Christmas as it's supposed to be lovely with cheese.

We'd been wandering around Southwold for a few hours and were in desperate need of a Pot of Tea and when we found they had toasted tea cakes on the menu, the diet went out of the window - really enjoyable. We also noticed another couple having Afternoon Tea, which looked very good. However, they were unable to finish it as there was so much, so they were given a box to take away the leftovers - a lovely touch. We must visit again.

For our first visit, we were not happy with value for money. This time however, I think Tiptree must have reviewed their portions as we had the same as last time but there was garnish and crisps added to the plate. It makes all the difference to the customer not feeling 'ripped off'. The sandwiches were delicious and the staff were nice.

Coffees were made for local customers as we saw them walk up the pier, making them feel special and valued….. not today, staff totally uninterested, unmotivated, no leadership It made me feel very sad to see this special venue so badly run I was also grubby, uncared for… let’s hope the new owners do something fast, before the season starts
