Good coffee. Good snacks. Major minus: the tables are fixed in place in a way that assumes all customers will be rake thin...

This place took money off me told me they had no food left sorry and did not refund me!

Gave our entire order to someone else and then told us there was no food left!!!! We used to go ever week I would avoid this place!! So annoyed

Coffee was expensive and decidedly substandard. Dry croissant, slightly warm, presented on a plate with no option of jam or butter. Perfect for people who hate themselves.

Loved this place! The tea was great, and the wifi was faster than what I have at home. My one complaint is that I thought they baked their own cakes, but I probably should have asked. Still tasted good, wasn’t really what I expected or wanted though.

I've been coming to this place regularly for a couple of years now. I find it very relaxing as a space to work/read/meet up with friends and nice big windows to people watch. Staff are always very friendly and their apple pie is definitely something I'd recommend. Only comments are that if you don't get a booth seat it can be pretty uncomfortable on the big bar stools/metal chairs and I would like if they covered the muffins/pastries better at the front of the till. Aside from these minor points, highly recommend.

Staff are amazing and very courteous

Visited on afternoon of 10th Sept. Hoped to get a nice hot coffee which you can usually rely on in this coffee shop. It was just hot. I asked if it could be heated. Female staff member who didn't seem keen to serve in the first place took my coffee from the guy that I spoke to and added about 2 inches of foam to the top of it. I said 'it's going to be really weak now'. Grumpily the female said she'd make another. I was to take a seat. I heard someone shout but didn't know if it was for me. Then decided to go and look. My coffee which is the one in the photo was just sitting there on the shelf. It tasted like a cup of hot milk. I doubt I will visit this shop again or I will definitely check same female staff member who seemed lazy and unfriendly isn't there.

Decent coffee but the place is filthy. Bought an empire biscuit to go with my coffee and it was stale - had clearly been there for a while. Wish they would cover up the cakes that are at the till - everyone breathing over them and constantly flies over everything. Yuck!

Staff shouting out orders does not make a good atmosphere.

Great place, nice buzz getting a spot being at times the main challenge.People are always moaning about this place,but it's fine, and you come in, get a coffee, and sit,it's quite simple.

sat down for 5 mins to get situated with my stuff, before I make an order and a zesty dude came up to me telling me to make an order otherwise I wasn’t allowed to sit. Don’t personally like being rushed or pestered so I left, idk who the guy was but it was rude

Can’t beat a Tinderbox coffee when strolling Byres Rd. My go to - never been disappointed.

Ideal for a quick coffee and cake break from work. Lactose-free substitutes available. Cakes all look great, the ones we tried also tasted delicious. The seating at the window is a bit uninspired but comfortable enough for a short period of time. Everyone was very friendly, service was speedy.

Great small flat white coffee. That's all I had. Counter service. No complaints here.

Staff seem more interested in standing talking about their weekend, than making coffees people are paying over £3 for. This was my 3rd time trying to see if my previous experiences were just bad days but this is now the usual poor service. Will not be returning. Far friendlier service from lovely small independent coffee shops meters nearby.

First time here Saturday 20th January2024, had a wrap and cake,cappuccino was cold had asked for it extra hot,not very hygienic having the cakes along top of counter, everyone breathing and talking over them to order food,should be covered !!!

Perfect place for a quick coffee stop

I arrived to the store in byres road to continue working from there, i sat down and starting my laptop, a lady from the staff came and told me that i need to order and i said will do thanks. 3 mins later approached me again and said if I you want to stay i need to order and i said will do then she said “you have been here for 15mins and you need to order otherwise you can leave” i dont appreciate as a customer to be treated like this in front of the other customers. Basically i was asked to leave because i did not order within the first 5 to 10 mins. - Will i go there again? definitely NO I WAS DISRESPECTED IN PUBLIC. -Will i recommend Tinderbox? Not sure, but i will always share my experience I always work from Tinderbox as it’s near where I live. I usually go there to have my coffee and work.

Does the job for coffee & cake or lunch. I’m more a fan of cute cafés with a nice interior & chatty staff, this café is more for the regular customer who’s stopping by for a quick break. Not particularly bad, just not the café experience I favour.

Massive thank you to the staff who helped me propose to my partner there last week. We had our first date in this Tinderbox on 17th of September 2022 and we met there a year later as part of our anniversary. I had already planned the proposal but I couldn’t have done it without the help of the staff. This place has such a special place in our hearts already, now it’s more than that. Thank you so much. Unfortunately standards just keep on dropping, but because of location the footfall will keep in coming with no real need to improve. Positives, at least they open early(ish) and close late, whilst most coffee shops in the west end open at 10 and close at 3. The coffee is so so, the food offerings are poor. I perceiver as it’s handy, literally a minute from home. But there can be no excuse for stodgy stale croissants. The whole place needs shaking up, seating areas just feel tired and uncomfortable.

Have visited five times over the last few weeks. One of my destinations after a walk. Had the same order each time: Sanpellegrino. 1st price £2.40, 2nd £1.20, 3rd £2.40, 4th, £1.20 and finally today £3.10 served by the manager himself. Wonder what I’ll pay next time.

Rude aggressive staff…. Food just so so but $$$&&&&. Presentstion of food atrocious… they have much to learn. And staff needs sacking frankly. Certainly not a “cafe” worth crossing the road to get to…

The toilets are disgusting the stairs to the toilets are not well lit and dangerous and the cubicle is tiny

The food selection should be shaken up ..the staff were very friendly (no west end coffee hipster sneer) ...its a survivor because people love it but they heed to keep improving the basics

I’ve recently started a new job in the west end so I’ve been using this place a lot in the last week. Whenever I’ve been in the staff are always rushed of their feet and making sure people aren’t waiting long. The girl with red hair knows whenever I come what I’m going to order, which I really appreciate as a customer. They all do a great job the place is always moobed.

Good coffee, I can't really rate properly so a bit unfair to score high or low Definitely better than Starbucks etc. but not as good as some of my favourites. I would definitely buy another again so the three stars is more a lack of times I have visited and feels kinda harsh but also fair. Will update if I go back, staff were great but busy * Went back, coffee is good :-)

This cafe in the west end of Glasgow just tried to charge £2.80 for a glass of hot milk. A 64% hike in price from the week before. (£1.70). Bad attitude from staff, who really didn’t seem to be that bothered that this was the case, quoting 85p for a glass of cold milk, and £2.80 for a frothy milk. I then asked for a cold milk to then be told that there was a minimum charge on card payments. What a lot of cr*p. I will not be investing anymore time or money on their brand. Disgraceful. So much for Glasgow the friendly city, What utter b*ll. Sadly, this is not the only cafe that has issues with the price of milk in Glasgow, which varies from one server to another. At a time when every penny counts, this shows signs of blatant extortionate price hikes for commercial gain, which, when coupled with a bad staff attitude, make for a place to avoid like the plague,

A formerly decent cafe made absolutely intolerable by using beepers to let people know when their coffee is ready, resulting in a constant cacophony of high pitched beeping in the background making it impossible to think or read.

Great little coffee/cafe. The cakes are great. It's a luck if you can find a seat or table. I do think the place needs a deep clean though. the scooter in the front window is caked in greasy dust. The annoying beepers ruin it for me.

The toasties and sandwiches are good, coffee is amazing however if you don't get a booth you end up sitting at an awkward table or uncomfortable bar stool. The people that work there are great and it's a very varied customer base

Better than most chain coffee stores. A wee bit pricey though.

Incredible coffee and pastries. Very cosmopolitan in nature and far better than the standard Costa fare. Very cool surroundings and very clean. Staff very friendly and helpful, we visited at around 11:30 and was just nicely busy. Would recommended the pistachio latte!

This is where we stop for coffee when on Byres road early if we are on a day trip to Glasgow. Pleasant member of staff, older lady. Coffee good and pastries were fresh, which was a concern as early Monday morning.

Might be better if I hadn't had to wait 10 minutes at the window before being served

The cafe looked untidy and tables dirty. The guy who took our order looked like he was chewing a wasp. He didn’t listen and we had to tell him again to add an item to our order. I went to the toilet and my partner had our order yelled at him. He went and collected it. No mention from your staff the chocolate powder was self service, as the entire menu is. I had a cheese toastie and it was like a slice of rubbery goo. I had fond memories of this cafe and that’s partly why we travelled from East Lothian to visit. My partner put our dirty things on the tray and left them on the counter. He thanked the aloof barista but he barely acknowledged him. Your staff were stood around chatting while your cafe was looking a mess. We will not be back.

Ginger-haired with a white face mask could have been much nicer. He treated us like stupid when he couldn't hear/understand us. Not a nice environment for a chill coffee at all.

Early coffee stop whilst up in Byres Road. My husband tells me staff weren’t rude as others have mentioned, just OK. Very small cup for flat white not much bigger than espresso cup but good coffee was early but had some nice gingerbread . Busy stop with people going to work, school and uni.

Badly badly made coffee with coffee grinds around the lip of the cup. Stupid convoluted system, only redeeming quality is that it's a fairly nice hangout spot

Modern New York and Italian style cafe. There are some places to seat in front but even more in the back.

I've been going here for years but won't go back now. The guy on the till snapped at my colleague and then at me, barking 'what?' when he couldn't hear me. I appreciate he was stressed because it was busy, but it won't be busy for long with that attitude. I've been a regular for years but this isn't the first time staff have been rude. And with Absolute Roasters and Alchemy Experiment nearby now, I'll just go to one of them instead. What a shame.

Went in this morning after being on nightshift so a bit tired and slightly grumpy, bought 1 reg tea and three cakes. (not all for me) When I opened up my tea there is half a cup, please, please, please ask your staff to fill up the cup it only hot water, people asking for a latte, mocha or any coffee get a full cup. I need my morning caffine fix to stop me being grumpy

Only my second time in Tinderbox and would definitely return. The staff were so nice and funny, great experience was had and the toasted houmous and pepper poppyseed roll was delicious 😋

Many people came to eat here. The shop owner prepared hand sanitizer at the entrance. Service quiet good, we had our orders within 10 minutes. I gave three stars because the carrot cake was a bit dried and too sweet.

Great Coffee, ignorant staff member. You advertise soup, asked for the advertised daily soup specials and to be told bluntly! we don't do soup.?? The Gentleman with the tattoos was very unpleasant to deal with. Manners cost nothing. Tinderbox I Merchant City staff are far more friendly and pleasant.

I had a quick breakfast here a day or two ago as my usual haunt was closed It was a disappointing experience. My croissant was old and stale and my espresso very small indeed. The upholstery was not well cleaned or in need of renovation and the ambiance generally depressing. It has been a better experience in the past.

Very busy and not organised, but I was there on boxing day so it makes sense. Coffee is average

Informal, great tasting and good value stop off in the west end, plenty of these dotted around the city. There’s a decent amount of seating at the back as well as a takeaway hatch at the side of the building to keep things covid friendly

Not a bad cafe but not the best either. I didn't find anything particularly special. It's local which is good but as a cafe nothing really stands out.

They were busy and overstretched. My tea was ready almost immediately (although I had to go back to the counter for milk) but not the toasty. When I enquired they looked in the machine to find it had been in some way spoiled. They started to make a new one and said they would bring it over. It was only properly toasted on one side the other being pale and flabby. It didn't seem to be bursting with filling so I had a look inside. It wasn't. Now I know that after Covid they drastically lowered the standard of their cakes, have they perchance changed supplier on the toasty front too. Not good.
