Delicious coffee, lovely staff, absolutely fabulous cakes, which taste every bit as good as they look. Best of all dogs can go inside

Lovely apple crumble cake and raspberry and white chocolate blondie. But the big plus over other cafes in Leyburn is that on a miserable rainy day we had found somewhere that allowed us to sit indoors with our dog. Full marks for that and massive thanks to the owners.

Lovely little tea & cake shop on Leyburn's old market square. Friendly staff and delicious cakes! Multiple vegan and gluten-free options, too. They do cream teas and also "afternoon tea", which does need to be pre-booked, but can also be adapted for dietary requirements. Members of our party had coffee and cakes and I had a savoury "cream" tea, which consisted of a Wensleydale & chive scone with chutney & cheese. Recommended.

We are visiting from Canada, driving from Yorkshire to the Lake District and stopped at this tea room for tea to takeout, and one scone. This should have taken all of maybe 3 to 5 minutes to prepare . We paid, and instead of preparing our order, the lady at the counter proceeded to prepare and serve a patron who had come in well after we had ordered. She also cleared the table from the previous guests. It took 10 minutes for her to prepare our order and one of the take out tea cups was defective and leaked the tea all over the car seat and the person trying to drink it. The cakes may be lovely but the surly service was unnecessary.

Visited Leyburn on the Sunday and decided to pop in to this establishment and treat ourselves to some cream teas before heading home to Lincolnshire. There were four in our party and we ordered 2 savoury cream teas, 1 sweet cream tea and a sticky toffee cake. For drinks we ordered 3 Mochas and a Yorkshire Tea. We had high hopes as the window and the internal displays looked fantastic. You have to order at the counter and there was a little confusion as the young lady appeared to lack concentration when taking my order and repeatedly asked whether I wanted sultana scones with the savoury teas. Then I had to repeat the drinks order a number of times as the teas each include a drink with the package, while my daughter had decided to opt for a cake from the display and a Mocha. Got there in the end and was asked to confirm the order on a display tablet in front of the till (Which is a nice touch). We were still missing a Mocha so with that sorted returned to my table, it was 14:28. Well that was the time printed on the receipt. The teas are £6.95 each and the additional cake and Mocha pushed the bill to around £27:40. Drinks arrived a short time afterwards but the Mocha's arrived in tumblers and not the high ball type glasses the neighbouring tables appeared to have. I put this down to the fact they had probably run out as it was quite busy. They weren't uniform either, so the three glasses looked to have differing amounts but not a big enough difference to complain in my book. I also noticed my tea pot was about 3/4 full on arrival but again not something I would complain about, but the sum of these things would probably result in me seeking an alternative establishment next time. Anyway these aren't the reasons for the 1 star review. We chatted amongst ourselves and finished our drinks but no sign of any of the food. I was beginning to get a little worried but they were busy. The alarm bells started when some of the tables around us which had arrived after us, ordered and finished and had left. So I returned to the counter again, it was 15:18. I handed the receipt to the young lady I had ordered from and told her that we hadn't received any of the food and it had been 3/4 hour. There were two young ladies behind the counter and the one making the drinks appeared to be the more senior. They appeared to know nothing about the food. They then asked me whether I'd like my money back or they could prepare the food now. We had to get going so I asked how long before we could expect the food, they assured me 5 minutes. I returned to my table and a savoury and sweet tea turned up. I assumed the rest of our order would be following. That turned out to be a mistake and had to return to the counter again. They weren't in the midst of preparing the remainder as I had hoped. I again asked them to just prepare the food on the receipt as we had only received half of it. Got another 'Sorry about that' but no offer to refill our drinks which we had finished a long time since. The food was okay when it finally arrived but coupled with the awful customer service we won't be going back. I understand it was a Sunday and they probably had covering staff and as mentioned were very busy. But £27 for what equates to 4 scones and 4 hot drinks is towards the higher end of lunchtime treats in my book and I would expect the service to reflect that. It didn't and the steps to remedy the situation fell woefully short too.

Quirky for sure but very friendly and very keen to please. The soup we had was delicious and having leaf tea was a treat. Scones on the table is a lovely idea but a cover would be better. Lovely chat with the proprietor and really good at engaging with our whole family.

Could not recommend enough! Staff are so friendly and welcoming. They make sure to go above and beyond for customers, making sure you have everything you need. Decor is absolutely fabulous and not to forget they grow their own fresh ingredients, you don’t get a better experience than that. Food is 10/10 so flavourful, definitely will be returning.

Just been for Sunday lunch with my family and was delicious. I rang to book an hour before and they fitted us in no problem . Lunch didn't take very long to come and staff were so friendly. Definitely recommend. Look forward to coming back. Thankyou Nicola xx

We visited here after reading some encouraging reviews and noting that “booking is essential for food”, we thought it would be a safe bet while we were in the area. Unfortunately, the 2 stars are for service along as the bar staff were very polite and helpful. They are also dog friendly which is a bonus. Other than that, the food was not impressive. We had the Sunday roast and the beef tasted of poor quality, and vegetables were not seasoned and lacked flavour. The cabbage served with the meal was pickled which wasn’t what we expected. We were still hungry afterwards but didn’t want to waste any more money on desert in case it was more of the same. The decor is very tired and the place does lack atmosphere unfortunately. We didn’t drink alcohol but they have a wide variety of ales to choose from behind the bar. We won’t be returning, sadly!
