Me gustaría volver.

After dining at Ticino and reading some of the reviews, I was unsure of what to expect, but on arrival we were greeted and shown our table with minimum fuss, the food was excellent I had the risotto with saffron, gorgonzola, cherry tomatoes, along with a Margherita pizza, which were both excellent, I will return to Ticino whenever I am in the area.

Tried this restaurant and we were glad that we did. We were attended to virtually as soon as we entered by a smiling waiter and got a very comfortable table, not squashed or cramped at all like some places. Kids loved the pizza and even ate the crust. Lemon risotto a nice surprise and I loved my chicken dish with grilled veg. Gelato éclair was divine and my husband loved the mojito sorbet. A very nice end to our London holiday.

Went there for evening meal. Quite packed tables but ok once sitting down. Surprised by the fact the bulk of the menu comprises pizza. Not that much choice otherwise - had the sharing meat platter which was fab followed by steak and chips for me and veal for husband. Veal and the sauce was great. My steak was a bit gristly...nice chunky chips. Nice service and good wine.

As a woman dining alone I felt completely comfortable in this lovely little restaurant and that is mainly because of the warm welcome from the waiting staff. Friendly but not over the top. Lovely fresh bruschetta for starter and then the special pasta which was sublime. The coffee mousse desert was maybe a bit extravagant for a mid week pud but it was divine! Would recommend. Thanks :)

On a late, warm Saturday afternoon we were heading for one of the many restaurants on Bermondsey Street. Sadly, we realised that “zucca” was now closed, and our Spanish favourite further up the road was full up. So we headed to another alternative across the road, the Ticino. The decor and the overall atmosphere is “modernised traditional Italian” “as I would call it), although the menu (mostly southern Italian dishes) are in contrast to the name which is clearly Northern Italian. We were very pleased to be seated by a corner window which gave us advantage point to look out across Bermondsey Street. Shortly after seating, we were given the menu and ordered starters (bruschetta, mussles and a Prosecco) and as mains we chose two pasta dishes and a carafe of Nero D’Avola. The starter arrived soon and I was very pleased in particular with the muscles, whilst the bruschetta was unconventional, but very tasty indeed. Then, something funny happened: we were given the dessert menu and we thought we were given an early opportunity to make up our minds what to have after the mains. After 15 minutes, the waitress returned and seemed surprised that we had not made any choice, until it emerged, that they probably had not even started preparing the mains. Luckily, the two pasta dishes didn’t take very long and in fact we were very pleased with the results. We both had an excellent pasta, and afterwards we chose a “calzone” filled with Nutella and with an vanilla ice cream as a side (to share, of course). I had an Asti Moscato to give it a nice finish. Overall, it was a very pleasant evening, even though the service was a little bit hit and miss, but we didn’t mind the wait, as we already had our starters and we were compensated by a very good, solid quality. The dough of the calzone was so good, that we are considering returning for pizza later this year

A piggish drive up from Portsmouth at just over three hours and sat nav taking us the really scenic route straight through Knightsbridge meant that arriving at the hotel in Bermondsey so late either meant a punt on room service or pot luck on whatever eatery was within staggering distance. My extremely good fortune then that Ticino was so close and with the promise of a table within 20 minutes we took a draft peroni at the bar and looked at the menu. I ordered the pea and bean risotto which may have been lost amongst the pizza and calzone but for me a real test of quality, Mrs ordered the lamb with rosemary jus which was delicious a decent portion well cooked and seasoned and the jus a perfect accompaniment but the Jewel was the risotto. beautiful creamy,Parmesan just melted through and the broad beans just in the turn to dente absolutely delicious. Great attentive service and a couple of free liquors as we hadn't noticed that 11.00 had passed so couldn't be sold (no honestly my mistake) would thoroughly recommend to anyone within earshot. Might book as it was v busy and I noticed a lot of people turned away after us as there just wasn't the room.

Friday night visit without a booking - my partner was happy with her pasta dish and the bread bowl was generous. However, my son and me opted for the sirloin. It was fatty, overcooked and tasteless. We had asked for it to be cooked 'medium' but it seemed as though it had been warmed up and cooked earlier. The annoying factor was that no one checked to see if our food was OK. Admittedly, it was very busy but we had little opportunity to complain and with people being turned away at the door it did feel as though moving us on was the priority.

Whenever we've tried to get into a restsurant on Bermondsey Steeet without booking at a weekend we've usually been turned away. So it was with some surprise that, having booked a table at Ticino Kitchen on a Sunday Bank Holiday lunchtime, we arrived to find we had the whole place to ourselves. And so it remained throughout our lunch. I don't know whether this is because on other occasions Ticino is closed and diners assume it's permanent. Or whether because they major in Pizzas much of their business has gone to the newer Franco Mancos further down the street. It certainly isn't a reflection of the quality of the food judging by what we sampled. A sharing starter plate of antipasti, including mozzarellas, salamis, bresaola and a little pig of honey was second to none. Also unlike in so many other places where the accompanying bread is insufficient, here there was a separate basket of toast in abundance. No complaints either about our pizzas, my wife's Parma ham and cheese, or my seafood. We could have just as easily have been tempted by something from the small range of entrees supplemented by a separate specials menu. Service was as charming as it was efficient. Recordings of retro hits from the 60s to 80s provided a slightly intrusive background accompaniment.

I had read previously that the wait staff were inexperienced but clearly the problem has been well solved the evening we ate there - our waiter and waitress were both attentive and helpful and the service was efficient and friendly.Arrive early or book as the place fills up v quickly with the young and groovy, but hey, still room for us. We shared the antipasti special and olives and bread. We had between us a terrific looking pizza, a delicious lamb shank in an amazing sauce, a beef ragu with pappardelle, and a seafood pasta dish. The panna cotta was an absolute dream to finish with. Wine choice was reasonable. The ambience is pared down, bustling and busy but also relaxing: we would definitely eat there again even though there is a great deal to choose from along Bermondsey St.

Walking down Bermondsey street with my girlfriend, we had all these different choices to get ourselves a decent dinner! we walked all the way until we reached Village East, and it was packed as it is a busy friday but right around the corner, we have noticed this blue painted italian restaurant with quite a few people inside having a blast, So we crossed over, had a look at the menu ourside and we instantly craved pizza!Well, unfortunately for us they had run out of the bloody pizza dough by the time we came in! unbelievable but true, our waiter explained to us that the pizzas were so popular that they sold them out in the first hours of their opening! disappointed we wanted to leave after having our drinks but our waiter, a lovely Moroccan guy, talked us into staying and having a meal of his recommandation and we were blown away by how delicious the Veal escalope and safron Risotto were!! He single handedly turned our night around and provided us with exceptional service and his sense of humour was a lovely finishing touch! he promised that the pizza is worth coming back for and that is exactly what we will be doing this week!Hands down, Our new favourite dinning place!

As you've got a great selection of pizza restaurants to choose from on Bermondsey street it's nice to have other options on the menu. I chose the pork belly and it was amazing. After reading the past reviews about service, we tentatively decided to give this restaurant a go as we love Italian food and live local, and didn't want to miss something good without trying it for our selves. And we found the food was great! And our waiters were really great- very friendly, happy and efficient. However, I have never had such an unreal and terrible experience as happened when we came to pay the bill... Bermondsey street as a whole was experiencing a drop out of service from Global Payments. It seems that this is a payment gate way that enables you to make payments using your card. In fact, it turns out that only American Express doesn't use this platform. So, we were asked politely either wait, or go get cash out or come back. We opted to wait, then were politely asked to come to the till to see if there might be better signal there. There was no offer of compensation for the inconvenience for waiting, and not being able to pay. I asked that, as we were on a time limit, we could come back the next day, having left contact details. The manager came over... And then things all got very aggressive and misogyny. I'm 30, and I haven't been spoken to in the way he did, in a very long time. All the while towering over me, he proceeded to tell me that it was my fault for not having an Amex, rather than him choosing that payment platform. He proceeded to keep calling me mate, laughing at me when I protested that it definitely was not my fault I didn't use Amex ( seriously, it was like a bad dream) and started to posture towards me so aggressively that my partner felt that he had to step in. The manager then proceeded to lie about what I had said to my partner, as well as tell my partner that he also didn't know what he was talking about. My partner started that as he works on e- commerce, he knows exactly what he is talking about with digital payments, and that we would be leaving and the manager would have to accept our promise to pay tomorrow . One of the waiting staff was told that he would have to pay our bill, if we didn't pay.

It was a spur of the moment dinner outing and most other places that we tried on Bermondsey were full with reservations until quite late into the evening. We found Ticino and looking inside, we could see available tables so that made me somewhat hesitant but we decided to give it a go! We were not at all disappointed and, as it happened, the place filled up fairly quickly shortly after we arrived. We found the service was quite reasonable - as the waitress made every effort to get our order right. (The tables and quite close so I can imagine it might be hard to hear what patrons are ordering.) The menu offered an interesting bruschetta trio that was perfect for sharing. For mains, I found the seafood linguini tasty and perfectly portioned while others in our party enjoyed the wild mushroom pasta and a calzone. As an added touch, the cappuccino could have come with a mini biscotti or amaretti biscuit because I was craving a bit of sweet but did not want to substantial dessert -although they did sound tempting. I would definitely recommend for casual dining.

Ticino are responsible for bringing the Italian ciabatta to London so it's no surprise their pizzas are more authentic than pretty much anything in London. Forget the other pizza bar in the street if you're serious about pizza. Excellent anti pasta. Top selection. You feel as if you're in Italy. Fantastic sourdough pizzas and I tried a newbie on their menu, a Sicilian specialty: mozzarella, white broccoli and Sicilian sausage. I don't usually go for veges on pizza but this was excellent. They had a few other new specialties from Sicily as well as their 'usual' pizza options. I'm definitely going back to try some more.. The non pizza dishes I saw going out looked excellent as well. Popped into this relatively new establishment on a Friday evening. We were seated at our table and immediately a glass was broken by our server next to us. A few minutes later my couch type chair started collapsing, as it hadn't been assembled properly. Not a problem at all. Our waiter came and took our order, which included a couple of starters, one being the artisan bread and butter, and our mains, along with a side. Our mains arrived before the bread and butter did which I found very confusing, as I am pretty sure it takes longer to make a pizza than it does to slice a few pieces of bread! We had ordered a side of chips and aioli which never arrived and the most frustrating part of the evening was trying to get the waiters/ waitress's attention. Between them the wandered around the dining area 8 times and even though I made eye contact with them on several occasions, neither thought to come and check if we were ok, or if we wanted to order anything else. Just 5 minutes prior to this, we had been handed the wine list, and in most establishments I have been to, once a menu is given to the customer, you expect a member of the waitressing team to come back and ask you if you'd like to order something. Not the case in Ticino. In the end I had to go upstairs to the bar to order our bottle of wine. In summary, the food is decent but with service like this and nearby competition from the likes of antico, tanner and co, village east and a soon to open Franco manca, I know where I'd rather go.

We stopped off at Ticino on the way back from a family escapade to the Surrey Keys farm at a weekend. Everything was fine, the staff were pleasant and were not phased by my kids slightly loud and messy behaviour. As far as the food goes - we mainly ordered pizza and one other main. Everything was perfectly fine - but just not more than that. There wasn't anything on the menu that exciting - I didn't fancy a pizza and struggled to chose a dish that caught my attention. I think this is not a bad option to go with kids - many of the restaurants on Bermondsey street are just a bit too fancy, loud or expensive to go with children. So this one is a place to try if that is what you are after, but be prepared not to get blown away.

We are certainly spoiled by the number of super restaurants in this area so I was pretty shocked at the poor service we experienced at Ticino. Upon arrival, we were greeted with a shrug and POINTED to our table. Not a smile, a good evening or a hello - seriously! The guy was clearly so super cool that he doesn't trouble himself with such trivialities. The servers were pleasant but disorganised. One brought the starters to our table but didn't know what was what. Another brought our wine but as were still enjoying our glass of fizz, we asked her not to pour it and were greeted with such a look of confusion and incredulity, it would have been funny if it hadn't been so rude. I can think of at least four super eating places around Bermondsey Street and would advise anyone to go to them instead.

I'm not usually one to go out of my way and write a poor tripadvisor review, and I believe this is my first. Plenty of diners around us appeared to be having a good meal, so I wouldn't necessarily dissuade you from visiting Ticino. The positives were a quality relaxed ambiance and use of high quality ingredients. Unfortunately we had a very poor experience, as our order appeared to have been forgotten. About an hour after ordering we were informed that one of the dishes which we had ordered was no longer available, and we quickly had to change our order to a pizza. This was rather disappointing as customers who had arrived and ordered after us had already received this same dish, paid up and left. One of our starters (buratta) also appeared to have been forgotten, and we reminded the waiter of this order, but as things were running so late we decided to cancel it.Our two pizzas arrived very promptly after this, one of them overdone, and the new order undercooked. I suspect this may have been a consequence of the rapid change in order and initial delay. Then the bill arrived, which included the cancelled starter, and the dish which was unavailable. No apology.Overall very disappointed, and I doubt we'll be returning, but perhaps we were just unlucky.

Very handy for our accommodation as just across the road. We had pizzas and calamari which were excellent. The drinks were rather expensive at £8.50 for a gin and tonic and £7 for a small glass of wine plus the 10% which was added to the bill for the tip. Otherwise good and staff were very nice

Dropped in with a couple of friends for a quick Friday evening meal after a few drinks. We ordered one pasta dish one risotto and one pizza. Pizza was good but it kind of ended there. Food came out on cold plates, my friend's pasta was cold and the risotto seemed to have been cooked with lashings of olive oil and what appeared not to be arborio rice. Also without Parmesan which we had to ask for. Just seemed a bit odd and the food quite poor for not cheap prices. The house wine was over £20 as well which felt a bit steep even given the area.

Having lived on Bermondsey street for over ten years I'm v familiar with our local restaurants. I had heard the feedback that Ticino had sadly gone downhill in recent months so thought I'd go with my wife to see for myself. Oh wow, what a shame. The food was cooked... And the positives stop there. However what upset us both most of all was the shockingly rude service, particularly the manager who seemed focussed on having the last word at every moment possible. So please take my advice, and try one of the plethora of other restaurants in our lovely community.

I will start by saying IF I COULD GIVE THIS PLACE ZERO STARS I WOULD. One of our dishes arrived 40 mins after the rest of us had had ours so we stated we would not be paying for it as he had to eat alone. This was agreed by our waiter. We were then told as an apology we would all be served a round of drinks free. When they bought the "free" drinks to us we were told we actually had to pay for the steak! We refused and asked them to take the drinks back in that case. This is when Andrea (who owns the restaurant!!!!) plus another waitress thought it would be appropriate to verbally abuse us. We are locals, we are paying customers, we didn't want to pay for a meal that arrived late as one of our group ate alone. Everywhere else I have been OFFERS to take very late meals off the bill...that's good customer service. This place had the worst customer service any of our group had ever experienced (and we eat out A LOT). We were absolutely gob smacked. It was disgraceful behaviour. No doubt they will reply to this review with further rudeness. Go to Antico instead, they are only up the road with much nicer people and food.

A Bank Holiday Sunday perhaps isn't the greatest time to take a look at a restaurant's performance but perhaps equally it can be informative to see how a place copes when dealing with the sort of day when folk are likely to come out looking to eat. First off, all went well, as our booking was honoured, we were seated promptly in a nice spot and the restaurant is pleasant and fresh looking out on to trendy Bermondsey Street. There are alternatives but, by the looks of surrounding plates, you really come here to eat pizza -proper sourdough pizza. Before we got there, my son and I tried to honour my wife's usual invocation about adding some vegetables in there. Grilled asparagus was ordered but later reported as being unavailable. Hey, these things happen and I'd rather have no asparagus than some tinned substitute. I suggested perhaps, the ingredients being available, the chef might let us have a tomato and mozzarella salad. Not exactly a huge ask - in a pizzeria. I doubt any pizzeria in Italy or most places would have batted an eyelid still less (as we were told by our embarrassed waitress) reply that ""the chef says he won't do that". Not that we don't have tomatoes or mozzarella just "he won't do that"> Anyway, irritating but not crucial and, yes, a tomato and mozzarella starter didn't feature on the list. We moved to the main action. We had a decent choice and opted for old favourites - margherita and Napolitano. Both were very good though the base could have done with being just a little thinner. But very good and you would enjoy and be content with them in any pizzeria. The place was filling up so we moved on for coffee and dessert. All in all, an OK experience and we would go back just for the pizza. But Bermondsey Street and around has a lot of alternative eateries. This classic pizzeria might brush up a little.

I've been in Ticino on Saturday night, for a night out with my friends. We ordered some pizzas for dinner, (honestly one of the best pizza in London!) in the dining room downstairs, so cosy and comfy with very nice sofas, and then we had some amazing cocktails, served by a very friendly bartender. Overall, definitely a great night! You won't be disappointed!

The only reason why I go to Ticino is the good pizza, which said by an Italian I guess is a positive. However, service is really poor and the overall experience quite basic. This place could be really turned into something special just with a bit of taste and fantasy but unfortunately everything, from the menu with Italian spelling mistakes, poorly printed, to the staff and the actual menu itself (how can an Italian place decide to do roasts?) is so lacking character. Finally, how can a restaurant "run out" of sparkling water?seriously, it has happened twice already.A real shame.

I have been to Ticino at least 6 times the last year (2014 and early 2015) and it was one of my favorite restaurants in London! It used to be a real hidden gem in one of London's coolest streets and one of the hardly existing restaurants that weren't overcharging for decent food. They had amazing Pizza, great starters and always an amazing specials board! Everything looked and tasted fantastic in this place!!! To keep it short - I loved Ticino! But here comes the big BUT: The food and menu has changed. There is a very odd selection of Pizza's on the menu now and prices have gone up significantly. The Pizzas we ordered were less than average. I ordered ham and Porcini mushroom Pizza and the whole thing was watery and there were weirdly big chuncks of Parmesan thrown on the Pizza. It tasted of nothing. The people I went with also ordered Pizza and were equally disappointed. I don't think I'll go back to this place now...It's a real shame we've lost this great little place. I do hope the restaurant owners read this and realise they've done a mistake with their changes! :-(

Building on the previous review by Tom, sadly we had a similar experience last weekend. Such a shame as this has become a firm favourite for us as we live nearby - we appreciated the simple but good quality food at reasonable prices - see my previous review.Gone was the draft Peroni and the specials board and in its place a disappointing menu and disorganised service. (eg Instead of writing down my order, the bar man checked back on several things as he tried to work the till and then still got the order wrong!) I appreciate it was day 2 for the new team and they were trying to get up to speed but I think they will quickly disappoint a lot of the regulars if they don't up their game. And around Bermondsey street there's no shortages of great options to choose from.

We've been to Ticino 3 times. It WAS a great little authentic Italian restaurant, but we felt on our last visit that it must have changed hands, or at least changed its approach, and was really poor because of it.The menu used to be a simple selection of several pizzas and a limited number of classic Italian mains, with great antipasti starters. The menu now has a large breakfast section, several pizzas with slightly odd toppings, and a strange and confused mix of main courses, such as bbq pulled pork - one of 3 dishes on the menu that included bbq sauce! If the revised menu wasn't enough of a disappointment, the antipasti starter was quite poor with meat and cheese that didn't seem great quality and a chutney that was just out of place. The pizzas used to be delicious, authentic thin Italian style pizzas with fresh tomato sauce and delicious mozzarella and an interesting selection of toppings. This time they were very very different and very average. The sauce seemed like it was from a tin, and the cheese seemed like mass produced pre-grated cheese that looked like you'd expect on a chain type takeaway. The pepperoni and prosciutto, and the tiramisu that followed could have been from the supermarket. They'd gone up in price from £9-£11 to £12-£13In addition to this, the service wasn't good. Despite having booked, and arriving to a half empty restaurant, we felt rushed. We were asked if we'd like wine as soon as we'd sat down without having read the menu and mains were brought before the starters had been cleared. Coffee was brought without the option of sugar, and at no point did anyone ask if we'd like more drinks or if our meals were ok.It's a real shame as the last two times we visited the restaurant had the feel of a friendly and buzzing little local Italian. A family member who visited had been really blown away by a lovely sea bass dish and delicious antipasti. It felt like we'd found a great local gem of a restaurant and we would definitely have recommended it. This time couldn't have been more different. It felt as though the restaurant had changed to prioritise profit over customer satisfaction. With all the other great restaurants in the area its a surprise that they could get it so wrong, and hopefully people will vote with their feet. We certainly won't go back.

On Bermondsey Street, a fashionable part of East London. Nice welcome for a lone business traveller. Had the special carpaccio and bresaola with rocket and Parmigiana reggiana. Very nice with lemon and olive oil. Followed by Valdostana pizza with speck, ham and mushrooms. The starter at £9.00 seemed a bit pricey but I do live in Devon! The pizza was good. Probably the smallest double expresso on the planet. They added a large, 10% plus service charge and could not spell carpaccio, which I pointed out. All in all pleasant and worth going back but pricey by west country standards.

Visited on Tue night, walked in and got a table for two. Great service, menus were on the table, we got approached straight away with wine list (waiter had a knowledge of wines), ordered quickly, two pizzas + sides were delivered within 10 minutes. Got one white pizza & 4 seasons - both great on a sour dough base + side salad. Got a couple of wine top ups in a great manner (waiter approached us when we got low on drinks). Paid £56 for 2 mains + one side + effectively bottle of house red. Find this please to be a great value for money in the overpriced Bermoundsey area! Will be going back there soon!

My husband and I live locally and tried here for breakfast. For Bermondsey street- It was a complete disappointment. I ordered scrambled eggs and smoked salmon. Out came eggs benedict. When I corrected the order - they scraped off the eggs and plonked on scrambled eggs and said that it comes with the hollandaise sauce - even though on the menu it clearly doesn't. Shame really for this area !

Another local restaurant this is great value dining and perfect either to start off your evening before you start drinking or just a casual weekend dinner when you haven't planned ahead. Pizzas are huge and could definitely share, especially if you order a couple of starters. The service can be a bit patchy when it's really busy but we've always found the staff really friendly and responsive if they do forget something. They have a reasonable wine selection and beer on tap too so some people come in just for a casual drink so has a very neighbourhood feel.

The venue is rather new, so perhaps they will improve things in future, but the place totally lacks character and the basement seating area is like a garage with freshly painted walls. The tables are overly close and you feel like a sardine. There was an old dirty lamp on the floor just by my chair to light the place. Crockery/cutlery is not very clean. You have to keep asking them for things, no attention to detail at all, i.e. they bring you the food and you ask for salt, they bring the salt, but then you have to ask for the pepper - although the food is acceptable and actually the seafood linguine is rather good, it appears that management is very poor - staff don't know what they are doing most of the time.
