Unfortunately we have been very disappointed with it. Novotel is a great place but restaurant really lacks in service , speed and quality. More than one hour to get two pizza (frozen) , wrong order and really tooo long service. A real pity !

Four of us went to Afternoon tea as part of the View from the Shard/Afternoon Tea gift experience. After reading previous reviews I had great expectations of the attentiveness of the staff but they must have all been on holiday that day! It started off well we got there about 50mins early but was told that wasn't a problem and when we was shown to our table we could see why there was only another 2 people in there! We ordered a glass of champagne each as it was my brothers birthday which arrived promptly but after that things went downhill. Normally when we go to AT they come and ask you what tea you want or if you'd prefer coffee. Nobody appeared until they came and plonked two cake stands down and WE had to ask them for the hot drinks. Although I go to AT I'm not a cake lover and normally this isn't a problem because wherever I've been they always ask if you want more sandwiches which I have instead of the cake. Again nobody appeared and we caught a solitary waiter as he was passing through a now deserted restaurant (apart from us) on his way to the kitchen. We asked him if it was possible for a few more sandwiches, he said I'll check, and that was the last we saw of him! Nobody came to check if everything was ok and we had trouble finding a waiter to pay for the champagne (the rest had been paid in the package) Would we go again? Definitely not, the place lacked atmosphere and was more like a department store cafe at closing time, with the least attentive staff I've ever had on an afternoon tea experience!

I visited here with my daughter for dinner. We arrived about 5pm & waited a while to be served despite having NO queue. I ordered 2 cocktails & 2 meals. The drinks took ages to arrive & others arriving after us were enjoying their drinks before ! Business type of clientele with NO atmosphere in the place.Food was nice but very small portions & expensive for what it is ! The drinks were ok but again over priced. I wouldn't visit again

This restaurant in the Novotel is probably a practical option if you stay at the hotel and have limited time. The food was average but certainly OK, but service was poor and not interested

We had a cream tea for two as part of a Buy a gift experience encompassing a visit to the Tower Bridge Exhibition followed by a cream tea. The venue is OK but the restaurant overlooked the car park. The staff were very polite, well trained and helpful. The tea itself was adequate consisting of 3 finger sandwiches: egg mayo, ham & mustard and smoked salmon, a small warmed fruit scone served with clotted ream & jam, and 3 mini cakes : a stodgy carrot cake, mini éclair & mini cream slice with your choice of beverage, nice selection of teas [pot] or cup of coffee or hot chocolate. The cover price is £25 each which is excessive even for London, in my opinion. Thankfully our deal made it better value.

First of all I know that going to a chain hotel probably isn't the best place to choose when looking for a London Afternoon Tea - but this was a part of a Buy a Gift deal bought as a birthday present which included the Tower Bridge experience. The Tower Bridge was absolutely brilliant walking along that walkway ! Very nice staff helpfully directed us to the restaurant. The tea was served in the Elements restaurant, which was very quiet - there were two other couples sat in there also taking tea, but we did feel a bit lost in what was very obviously a restaurant set up for business stays and conferences - there were some nice looking areas they could have screened off or made a bit more interesting. We were seated by the window - which we thought was a nice idea until we saw that our outlook was the car park - at one point we even had the recycling truck pull up for a while to obscure our view further! Our waitress, Paula, could not have been nicer and did help to make the experience better, but it was a very lacklustre affair. My friend doesn't eat meat so we asked for a change of sandwich from ham which was happily changed for a cheese one. My friend ordered coffee which came cold - the second cup ordered was hot when we pointed this out to Paula. My assam tea came in a white pot, although had a tea stained spout and tea stain dribble down the pot from the spout - not a good look but was lovely and hot and strong with a tea strainer (again stained and bit bent) Sandwiches were very fresh with generous fillings - three each with a mix of brown and white bread.Scones hmm - if you look at the menu it does say SCONES plural but we only had one each, small, obviously quickly heated in the oven so was a bit too crispy - and the horror of jam in a little jar ! But there was a generous amount of cream to spread. The most disappointing bit for us was the pastries which were obviously defrosted - the vanilla slice was soggy and still very cold in the middle, the carrot cake was lacklustre - but the eclair was tasty. If you take out the cost of the TowerBridge part (10.50 each) the experience was £59 for two so the tea was £38 - a reduction of £12 from the restaurant price. This was definitely not worth the full price of £25 and only just at £18 each with no atmosphere, setting unsuitable, food only ok. We had tea a 3.15 and left by 4 pm - normally it takes us a couple of hours at least to work our way through tea and cakes and chatter. That said - the hotel itself looked great - the bathrooms were clean and smelt lovely and it was a great location near Borough Market and London Bridge, and the staff were attentive and helpful. We left a tip for Paula because she was lovely and she couldn't have served us more charmingly, but there are much much better places to take tea, and I wouldn't recommend this as one of them. Sorry Novotel and Elements Restaurant - must try harder , or charge less ....

Staying at the Novotel City South, we decided to dine in at Elements on our first night in London. We were mostly alone in the restaurant, and somewhat unsurprisingly we had no problems attracting staff attention. Service was quick and friendly.Having 2 children, we ordered a pair of childrens menus, pizza and a bowl of chili. The food was well prepared and arrived in a timely manner. We finished off with brownies, vanilla ice and coffee - again both tasty quickly delivered. The bill came to £56, which is not outrageously expensive, but not exactly cheap either, considering what we ordered.

This was part of a Red Letter Day experience with the View from the Shard with afternoon tea. I imagine the only reason this hotel was used was its location to the Shard The afternoon tea was a disappointment, sitting with a window view of the car park and a constant stream of tourists waking past with suitcasesThe food was average and i would not come here againI have made a complaint the Red Letter Day about this

we had a buy a gift for view from the Shard and afternoon tea at the Novotel london city south, well Shard was perfect but Im sorry to say afternoon teas was not good, I have had afternoon tea many times before in other hotels and this has to be the worst i have had.1. we did not get a choice of sandwiches, we rec 6 1inch x 3inch finger sandwiches for 2 people 3 very small sandwiches each. 2 x smoked salmon 2 x ham & mustard 2 x egg mayo, I dont like salmon or egg may so was left with 2 very small ham & mustard, my husband does not like mustard so he had the others.2. 2 very very small fruit scones one had 4 sultanas and the other had 2 sultanas in, if that is classed as a fruit scone then I am amazed, 2 nice jars of strawberry jam and a very small bowl of clotted cream, the scones had been warmed up in a microwave as they were soft and soggy.3. 2 x cream eclairs the choc topping was nasty, 2 x vanilla slices with disgusting patisserie cream and 2 small carrot cakes that were very dry.4. we chose tea as our drink, we got a large pot of hot water enough for 4 cups of tea and 1 teabag each, a small jug of milk just enough for one cup each. when we asked if we could have more teabags and more milk we did received them but very reluctantly. A choice of sandwiches would have been nice as obviously some people do not like certain fillings, we had no choice of brown, white or wholemeal bread we were just given ready made sandwiches. Overall experience was Ok but would not recommend.

They had some good eats. Nothing too fancy but a solid hotel restaurant with a decent menu. I had the curry dish and it was delightful. The breakfast buffet is passable; though I still don't understand the draw of European style "bacon."

Me gustaría volver.

Upon taking my aging mother here for a quick brunch and the view, I was greeted by the hostess on duty who quickly informed us before we could enter, and seemingly à propos of nothing, that we would have to buy "a plate" to stay. Fair enough, as it is a restaurant. I asked my mother "what sort of 'plate' she would like," and the Hostess was quick to inform me with her smarmy Middle Class attitude that "you each have to order a plate". I did not actually say or suggest that I was planning to sit there twiddling my thumbs and watch my mother eat. I told the Hostess politely that we would find somewhere else and we left. It would be one thing if we looked like some sort of loiterers, but on reflection I can't see anything except perhaps my mother's cane that would have caused such a hostile reaction from the Door Individual. This isn't Berghain, folks. Given that this Hostess probably claims to be an actress as her real job, the "I didn't say anything wrong even though it's obvious I hate you" attitude didn't play well. She could use an attitude transplant. I'll wait to darken the door until this place is under new management. Speaking of management: if you're wondering, it's the skinny one with the spots!
