Came here for breakfast as part of the premier inn breakfast deal, will be finding other places to go for breakfast for the rest of the stay. The pastries were stale, the milk containers broken and the lids kept falling off, the fruit didn’t look appetising. The worst was probably the state of the restaurant itself. The floors were sticky and looked like they hadn’t been mopped in a long while. We had crumbs and dropped chips under our table, clearly from the night before (or even older) that seemed to show that cleaning hadn’t taken place any time recently. The tables were also dirty and sticky. Wouldn’t recommend!

As we were staying here at the Premier Inn and it was a cold, wet night we decided to eat in. Good choice of dishes with a couple of Vegan options for one of us. In fact I also went for the plant burger and it was very good. They can be dry but this was tasty. My partner's Mixed Grill was much enjoyed. We shared some churros and coconut sorbet for dessert. Wine was very good. Service was friendly and attentive.

Good food and well presented, the staff were very friendly. I was surprised by the quality and service despite reading recent reviews. However, from my experience I would happily have a meal there again, if I don’t decide to venture out into the city for an evening meal.

My friend and I decided to unusually, eat "in house". Based on previous Thyme restaurants, I was optimistic. This was short lived, with poor service from the waiting staff. Despite ordering just 1 starter and 2 mains, the starter was forgot. Ok, mistakes happen, but on a simple order?? Staff were more interested in amusing themselves to serving customers. Food was ok.

As an in-house eatery for the Premier Inn I am unsure if it takes walk ins but in previous years staying at the Duke Street hotel we always used to eat here. I have to say we will not bother again. The previous few times were not great, and this occasion was the worst yet. For a start as there were a large group of us we were told we MUST book our meal deal options ahead of time. We did this BUT all of our choices were not available and there was a terrible delay on its arrivial. In fact some people were part way through their meal before other peoples arrived. I found most of my food quite dry an unappealing and was made up of disappointing 'gastro sized' portions. Breakfast was OK. The hot buffet food either sat there for some time or was empty for some time while we waited for it to be re-filled. We did not bother with breakfast on the last morning. This particular Premier Inn is really convenient for town and therefore there are numerous food options nearby so I doubt we will eat in-house in the future.

Breakfast at this premier inn is served until 10.30 supposedly ( confirmed by my call to premier inn customer relations) but we were told it finished at 10am. At 9.40am we arrived to be greeted by appalling customer service!. The staff member muttered about the time and then told us where to sit. She sat 5 of us on a table for 4. Then set it for 4 people. I borrowed another chair and got my own cutlery!. The juices were virtually non existent, one glass of apple juice and water!!. There was hardly any continental selection and when we asked if we could please have some croissants we were told no cause they take 30 mins to cook!!!!. It is not my fault that for a Monday they have been really busy ( as we overheard from a loud staff member)if you offer breakfast, you offer breakfast and choice and service should not be compromised at any point. There were quite a few tables eating when we were but I could not wait to leave.

Firstly, I realise Premier Inn staff have to perform heroics in being jacks of all trade (receptionist is also serving in the bar, the lady working in the office is also waitress etc.). It’s amazing that they manage to consistently provide the friendly helpful service they do. But the reception we received on this visit to the Thyme restaurant in the Premier Inn, Duke Street, Norwich was just not good enough. My colleague and I had had a long day: many meetings in the Midlands followed by a long drive to Norwich. We were left waiting at the “please wait here to be seated” sign for almost 10 minutes. Eventually a lady appeared from the kitchen, approached us (no “sorry for keeping you” or even a “good evening”), and immediately listed a long list of things that weren’t available in a tetchy tone ( I assume there had been some previous complaints, which might explain her directness). “Do you still want a table?” Again there was no basic politeness. Er, ok. Thank you very much!! The food that we ordered was good enough, this isn’t a fine dining restaurant, but you know what to expect and it was fine by these standards. But THAT attitude, training required!

We ate twice in this restaurant and the grand-sounding dishes are the usual micro-wave fare. The wine is very palatable and reasonably priced, particularly the Lovelli Sauvignon Blanc which is usually served very nicely,in an ice bucket. Starters are also good but a little pricey, the sticky duck wings are particularly good. The main courses let the place down as there is a large range of burgers but little in the way of healthy choices such as fish.

The Thyme restaurant offered friendly staff and prompt service when we visited for a weekday evening meal whilst on holiday in the city in October. The menu contained a reasonable selection of the usual fare, but also offered some “Limited Editions”, which were their version of ‘specials’, that did to be fair offer something a little bit different. Examples included “Jamaican Jerk style Chicken and Mango Salad” followed by “Gin & Tonic Lemon Trifle”. The restaurant was fairly busy and seemed popular with visitors to the city. The staff were friendly and worked hard at providing a good service to the diners. The food was flavoursome and the dishes we ordered included a “Crab, Mac ‘n’ Cheese”, which we would recommend and order again on a future visit. The prices for both the food and rinks were mid-range and were accompanied by good service. In summary a nice restaurant, that we would be happy to return to. .

I had breakfast here several times as I was staying in the hotel and was very pleasantly surprised at the quality and choice of food. Whether the hot food was cooked to order or from the buffet, it was very tasty. Lovely selection of pastries also. The food in the evening was fine, but the menu is not that exciting, although the dishes are very well presented. The rump steak that I ordered was perfectly cooked. Staff were cheerful and friendly. I always appreciate a decent quality restaurant attached to a hotel and Thyme does the job.

Stayed in hotel and was tired to search for other eateries - so ate tea here. Restaurant was supposed to open at 6pm but staff stood around chatting meant it was 6.10pm before anyone opened the place. Reading reviews on here I wasn't expecting anything sparkling - ordered veggie burger and onion petals. Pleasantly surprised when I got a decent meal with fresh salad, generous portions and tasty food. Rated 3 out of 5 due to staff not opening on time and a dirty fork on table,

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights and on the last night we decided to try this restaurant. The service was good but have menu choice was limited and when we got our food (I has Mac and cheese my other half had a portion of chips) I was very disappointed. The Mac and cheese tasted like and looked like it came out of a packet! The tesco microwave Mac and cheese is better then what I was served at the restaurant. I would not eat here again, I would recommend walking a few minutes and going somewhere els.

I stay in a lot of Premier Inns. Many of them have had an attached 'Thyme' restaurant.I've rated this one 3 stars as the breakfast buffet and morning team were very good. The evening menu is the problem I have with 'Thyme' restaurants. It is so dull it's really hard to find something interesting to eat.I opted for one of the burgers & then wondered how they could justify charging £10.99 for what is a very sub-standard product.Couldn't face it on my 2nd night, so I sat in the bar & watched the football instead. Please, please Premier Inn / Whitbread, change the 'Thyme' menu.Have a look at your nearest Wetherspoons for a clue how to do it and pay special attention to their pricing - hint, hint.

Great Premier room - obviously recently updated and does exactly what it needs to. Clean, warm, tidy and quiet. Strong hairdryer and mirrors and plugs in sensible places. The on-site restaurant is a different kettle of fish. Indifferent staff, the toughest steak I've ever tasted and a salad dressing made 90% of lemon juice. If you're staying here I would urge you to wander further afield for dinner. Whilst I would expect amazing food from this type of restaurant, a steak and salad at £16 should be at least average. Instead it was almost inedible. When I mentioned to the waitress, she pointed out I could have another, but they all arrived together, so it was likely that it wouldn't be any better! If you have no other choice, do make sure to book - the staff were turning away diners, despite half of the tables being empty and only 20 covers being seated at any one time. Whilst dining I saw three different meals being sent back. Says it all really. Finally, don't be lured by the BOGOF on drinks - at least not the wine - it's noted of vinegar reminded me of the Salad dressing! In summary - stay for the room, stay away from the restaurant.

We chose to eat here because it seemed to be one of the few places in Norwich open for food on a Sunday night. Anyway the environment of the restaurant was pleasant enough. Our problems started when we gave our order. The staff not only seemed to be inexperienced, but none of them spoke fluent English. When we eventually got what we ordered it was just about satisfactory. The meat in particular seemed to be of poor quality. The patty in my hamburger was very tough. I should have gone to McDonalds, which was the only other place we could find open on Sunday night.

Having stayed at this hotel for the last three Christmas's and following a successful meal last year we were expecting an enjoyable evening. We booked a table when we checked in having been told it would be necessary. On arrival the restaurant was half empty yet all the diners had no food in front of them. The attitude of the staff was dismissive and our drinks took a lot longer to arrive than other tables who arrived after us. An hour in we had only had our drinks and a starter. Both of our mains had varying degrees of heat from cold chips to piping hot mushrooms. The plates were warmed and the steak cooked as requested. We were not checked on to ask how our meals were so when the waitress collected our plates we informed her of the problems. She didn't seem to care in the slightest. We ordered our desserts feeling deflated only for the waiter to come back 5 minutes later to inform my partner that "everyone has had cheesecake tonight so we have run out". He offered him alternatives from the meal deal but no apology. It would have been nice to have been told about this sooner. Every kitchen runs out of food but they must have noticed they'd served the last slice. To add insult to injury when we did get our apple crumbles mine was stone cold. By this point I couldn't even be bothered to complain as my previous two problems had been ignored. If we come to stay next year I won't be coming back here.

Whilst staying in the hotel we decided to dine in one evening after a day travelling, the staff were friendly and helpful, the food was average and what you would expect for a chain restaurant. I wouldn't choose to dine there for a special occasion but its a nice place and an easy option when staying in the hotel. The restaurant caters for families and at times it became a little noisy but this was due to other diners and can not be helped with so many children present. Overall I've rated the experience very good as it fulfilled our criteria of a simple meal, served in comfortable surroundings, fairly quickly without fuss and as I've mentioned the staff were friendly.
