We were staying in the hotel and this was the night of the Queen's funeral so we decided to 'eat in'. They only had one chef in the kitchen so it took a long time for our meals to appear. They did warn us when we sat down but it would have been nice to be told when we booked the table when we checked in. Food was nothing special but nothing to complain about either.

The menu is decent for a Premier Inn which is a value hotel. It's pretty varied. Take up the meal deal option. The curry and gammon were super delicious. All piping hot not a long wait.

Had an early dinner at 6pm when restaurant opened. I waited about 10 minutes before the staff member on duty realised I was dining alone and not waiting for anyone! She was very apologetic and my order was taken promptly & delivered quite quickly. I had the BBQ chicken & bacon with salad & chips which was delicious. Strawberry frozen yoghurt for dessert. Breakfast in the morning was a pleasant experience. Very friendly & helpful staff and a good selection of both continental & cooked breakfast items. I had the combined meal deal which I felt was good value.

Booked a meal deal in advance of staying. When I turned up I was advised that a number of things were missing from the menu as they were expecting a delivery the next day. No steaks - beef or gammon, and no apology. This would have been 1 star but I spoke to customer care and they refunded the dinner part of my deal. So great value!

Predictable one size fits all food here but that’s what you expect if staying at the Premier Inn. Menu so predictable you could have nominated 50% without checking and been right.? However let’s be fair it is what it is and the food was well cooked & presented and ok for a few nights. Staff friendly & helpful and menu cheap as chips!

My husband and I were staying in the Premier Inn and decided to eat something in the Thyme Restaurant late one evening. We chose a sharing starter, and it was brought to our table pretty quickly. It was very tasty and we enjoyed it. The waitress was polite and the atmosphere in the restaurant was good. I think we were the only diners as it was late, so I cannot say what the service is like when the restaurant is busy. We will return soon.

Premier Inn restaurants are improving substantially. I was surprised that I really enjoyed my meal on the first night and was happy to eat there the second night.

My partner & I were staying over night in the HGV parking area (9th June). We walked across to the Tyme Restaurant, still in our work (truckie) attire & were immediately impressed with the 2 ladies on reception who greeted us with a very warm welcome. They explained the restaurant was due to open in 1.5hrs, they provided us with menus & offered us coffee. We returned later for our evening meal. The lady (cannot remember her name, but she had short dark hair & seemed to be training someone) greeted us. The service was excellent, very friendly and welcoming. I know it was only a couple of hours, but so many places the staff seem to look right through you as if they've never laid eyes on you before, but this lady make reference to us being in earlier. I enjoyed the spinach & ricotta lasagne, which was delicious. My partner had the mixed grill, which he was equally impressed with. I stole his green beans and have to say they were probably the best I had ever had (not even the slightest hint of a squeak!!). I would certainly recommend this restaurant to friends & colleagues.

I visited here with a colleague about three weeks after the restaurant (and hotel that it is in) opened, and the following took place: - When we first arrived the restaurant had about 6 tables occupied, and was no more than 10% full. First of all we sat down and we both ordered diet coke, however we were told they were completely out of diet coke, but they had diet pepsi, so that was fine. We then sat deciding what we were going to eat for about 5 minutes and then it took us another 20 minutes to actually get someone to come over to take our order despite asking more than one waiter to come over twice during this time. We placed our order and my colleague asked for a starter and main, both of which were not available (and not indicated to us on our arrival), they then didn't have the alternative starter he asked for, so he was already on his third choice starter and second choice main. I have to say that both my choices for main and starter were available. We then sat waiting another 30 to 45 mintues for the starters to come out, and when they did we asked for another diet pepsi, which then took a further 10 mintues and turned into diet coke, which they suddenly seemed to have some of in stock. All together the starters were not that bad. So then we were waiting for our mains. There was another 30 to 45 minutes wait for these (bearing in mind the restaurant was nearly empty at this stage) during which I saw at least one other table send their food back. When our mains turned up mine looked good (Gammon steak) but my colleagues (chicken and bacon salad) was not correct (another chicken dish). He complained and the waitress apologised and took the food back, rushing back to our table to promise that it would be out in three minutes (very specific) and saying that it had been caused by a software fault in the restaurant's ordering system. We decided to have a little test of the time it would take to get back, so I started eating my main, talking to my colleague and not rushing. If I finished before his arrived he decided that was enough and would walk out. Well suprise suprise nothing turned up in the 15 to 20 mintues it took me to finish my food (which was average quality, nothing more than expected, nothing less) at which point my colleague walked out. I then asked to pay my half of the bill (he had told them what he was doing and why as he left, so that I wouldn't be charged) and waited and waited. Eventually I got tired of waiting and went up and paid. Now this happened three weeks after this restaurant opened. They had enough staff to have two tables per waitress/waiter, they must have been recently out of training, so they should have everything fresh in their minds, but I do except that there would have been some issues to iron out, yet this was absolutely unacceptable! I shall never eat in this restaurant again, even when I stay in the hotel, especially as it is not that cheap and there are more than plenty of competitive restaurants within ten minutes’ walk of here. I have also recommended to everyone in my client’s office next door to the hotel to never eat in this restaurant.

After shopping in Woodham Ferrers a great place for a break is Costa Coffee, the staff there are very friendly & they can provide you with a good cup of coffee & a nice cake for a very reasonable price.

In area looking at antiques, decided to stop here for light lunch. Dissapointed to find that a Tea Room served our hot drinks in takeout cups and sandwiches on paper plates with plastic knives & forks. The menu sandwich choice read Thick hand cut Wiltshire ham, the sandwich turned up with one slice of thin cut ham. Sausage roll was cooked in microwave so pastry was soggy and a toasted tuna sandwich was not edible. Awful lunch! Addressed our complaint to the staff, was refunded back the Tuna sandwich. Doubtful we will rush back.

Chelmsford the place to eat. Arrived today to see 4 partners chatting behind the counter . I asked one of them I could have x2 pieces of cake from underneath the glass cover, only to be told “it’s self service”. I appreciate that but I am 78 years of age with a health condition and am unable to lift heavy items. I was eventually assisted. There was no breakfast tea on the counter so I was sent to another counter where there was also none to be had. Reluctantly a member of staff found one for me. Not really the best customer experience, unlike the partner in the Christmas department who went over and above to help escorting me to another department to assist me. Come on John Lewis you need to do better.

Good service, good coffee, sit outside and watch the swans. What else could one want? On our first day of house hunting in Chelmsford we went to BBs. 20+years later it is much the same and we still go there for coffee.
