As always we were served delicious food - and superb cakes especially my fave bakewell with compote - piping hot strong coffee in a hot cup and wonderful service from all the staff Also I want to say a huge thank you to the first aiders who were with my friend and I within two minutes when she fainted in her seat today and the very kind gentleman who asked if we needed a doctor. Luckily she was ok within half an hour but the competency of the staff is so good. Thank you again.

I’m absolutely appalled of an incident that happened today, me and my friend were sat on picnic benches eating an ice cream . A lady came and sat behind us and was in distress because she needed to empty her catheter bag . She was so upset telling us how embarrassed she was and that they wouldn’t let her use the toilet facilities inside the cafe to do this. The lady showed us her medical card and had a key for disabled toilet, but because you need to purchase something and get a receipt with a code on she couldn’t go . We reassured the lady that we totally understand and there was nothing she could do . Shame on you for not letting a disabled person use your facilities.

The afternoon tea was amazing and excellent value for money and the staff went over and above anything I could’ve expected. I phoned ahead because they don’t take bookings but I was bringing my terminally ill dad for Father’s Day and he needed to sit next to a plug socket for his oxygen machine. They sorted it all out, really did keep checking that we were ok and made the whole experience as special as I could’ve hoped. There was a lot riding on it as it was our last Father’s Day with him and we wanted it to be perfect, and it really was! Thank you so much!

I visited here on Saturday afternoon with my elderly parents and have to say the overall experience was very disappointing. It was a warm afternoon so we chose to sit outside and sat at a table outside the main doors. There was a horrible drain/ sewerage smell that was really strong so we had to move tables twice to get away from the stink. My parents ordered a ham sandwich and cream scone. The sandwich was a costly £7.95 and was a dry t cake with some ham and bit of salad and some salad on the side. Not worth the money. The tea with the scone was a small pot with one tea bag , barely getting a decent cup of tea out of it . Overall it was v poor and expensive, especially for pensioners. Felt totally ripped off. I've given it a one as at least the young lad serving was polite.Sorry will not be visiting the Bistro again which is a shame as Cannon Hall is a lovely visitor site.

I love this restaurant and have been coming here for years but the menu has changed to a point where neither my husband nor l could find anything that we really wanted to eat. We both ended up with pie and chips and this wasn’t as nice as it could have been. The pastry was too thick, it would have been better without the layer on the bottom and the beef was a bit tough too. I had to have chips because there was no mashed potatoes on the menu at all. I know we are probably very ‘previous’ but we do enjoy more traditional fare - steak, roast beef, roast turkey, chicken fillet, pork chop, lamb shanks….. if only. Everything is cooked with spices and herbs and there’s no alternative if you don’t want that.

Firstly the menu on the website is months out of date, found that out whilst sat at my table! The pulled pork sandwich I ordered was so dry, like the scrappings from the roasting tin, in a dry bap and stupid square of stuffing and the tiniest dolls jug of brown liquud. I have never returned a meal before ever, but i had too as i really coupdnt eat it,( husband thought id given him a piece of crackling, it was meat). I recieved another one but all the chef?.. had done was add a moist piece of meat on top of the original meal! It was so greasy. I really couldnt believe it and it really upset me.. I was offered ANOTHER one or a piece of cake, but declined both! Ruined my anniversary. I watch enough cooking programmes to see that the meals are checked before leaving he kitchen, certainly not here, AND the cakes arent even made in house!!!

We love going here and visit most weeks for breakfast or lunch followed by a nice walk around Cannon Hall. But please, give the drinks staff some more training, we can't stand lukewarm coffee and our last visit (4 of us) asked for our drinks to be extra hot, the first round was lukewarm, the second slightly warmer and the third still just above lukewarm. Total cost around £36 for coffees with breakfast on top so nearly £60 spent and we got the impression our request simply wasn't taken notice of. Please, how hard can it be to make drinks hot, especially in this weather and sitting outside we wanted a piping hot drink. Have rated everything at 3 due to drinks not being prepared as requested which impacted on service and value for money as basically we didn't get what we asked for.

A lovely place to eat, but avoid sitting at the tables outside the door. There are 2 large grates in the yard which l assume cover a cesspool. The smell from them is terrible, not very healthy at all and is enough to put you off your food. Wow- I’m so angry! Please someone reassure me that this is not normal behaviour! I’ve just been told by the restaurant manager here that I shouldn’t be in his restaurant/bistro because “I’m not all there in the head” and I “shouldn’t have been let out!”I’m absolutely astonished and find it hard to believe that I would be spoken to in this way anywhere in public let alone by the restaurant manager! This all happened because I had forgotten the last part of my food order and was told by the lady at the till that if I needed to go back and check then I’d have to queue again as they were too busy. As I hadn’t paid and wasn’t willing to queue again I told her not to bother putting the order through. I didn’t really want to make a big deal out of it. On the way out I was confronted by the manager; red faced and sweat on his brow, who asked me what the problem was and asked me if I was “Alright in the head?!” I was so shocked and taken aback by this remark that I didn’t really know the best way to reply! Doing my best not to get angry I told him that I was upset and really wasn't used to being spoken to like this, to which he replied, “well if you can’t handle being in a busy place like this then you shouldn’t be out!” He then kept badgering me, asking who I was out with and he didn’t want me in his restaurant and that I should get out ... All of this in front of families eating their dinners! Anyhow despite feeling really angry and quite upset by this point I thankfully managed to keep my cool and so went on to leave through the back gate of the restaurant where I’d been pointed to go outside. The manager must have realised by this point that I was trapped in a fenced area here and therefore needed his assistance for me to escape- On the plus-side it was pretty funny seeing the look on his face when he had worked out that he needed to come to my rescue in order for me to leave through the naughty door! Here in the car park I was greeted my partner Vicky and the kids who had managed to make their escape unscathed through the regular entrance. 2 or 3 minutes later the security guard/car park attendant came over to check with us that I wasn’t planning on returning.. He was a lovely chap with a friendly Australian accent and seemed genuinely concerned as he could tell I’d had a mouthful from his boss.. a real gent! He had been sent across the car park to tell me not to come back but thankfully he was a lot more diplomatic and good enough to recommend another local place to eat!it’s not often I write bad reviews but given the circumstances here and my general disgust for anyone that would ever seemingly discriminate against those with special needs.. I feel that in this instance it’s well-within reason. (Whatever I’d done to convince this guy that I wasn’t completely 'all there’ in his words is beyond me!)

This morning my friend and I visited Thyme Bistro, we have been prior to lockdown, every week since they reppened and really enjoyed the food and atmosphere. However, today it was disappointing to see that they are not participating in the Eat Out Government Scheme. I asked why and the reply was that they get busy enough anyway and they have loyal customers.......one of which I considered myself to be.I have been on furlough for 4 months thus affecting my monthly income, I would have hoped that businesses that are given the chance to help and give something back to their loyal customers would jump at the chance to do so.We are sorry but we will be finding another venue to eat at during August who are actively trying to help during the current situation. I would like to point out that the food, service and their handling of social distancing is good for anybody looking to eat here, I am just disappointed by their complacency.

That’s ok until you want to order food people entering people going back to order not enough room to distance. Breakfast really gone downhill used to be very well cooked but not as good now.Time to leave one way only until you meet people from outside coming in to order food not good. There's clear signs and arrows, a member of staff greeted us at the door and gave us a menu (wipeable) and showed us to our table. Staff were wearing visors and gloves and were really welcoming. A few other obvious changes such as tables being more spaced, no condiments out on the tables until they were asked for and a one-way system in and out. However on our last visit while leaving and walking back through the shop- as there is no other way out- an elderly female member of staff pointed out rather rudely that our dog had soiled the floor. She had done a little tiddle which was very small. We acknowledged what had happened however on the way out the lady seemed very angry staring at us as we walked out. Sorry but I thought this was a dog friendly establishment. If you provided another exit other than the one provided HAVING to walk through the shop perhaps the grumpy old woman might get more please in her work. #getagriplove

I believe the manager is called Tracy and spoke to her this morning with an idea on how to improve the cafe for dog owners rather than sitting in the awful little astroturf room. Not only was she unwilling to listen, she was downright rude. I refused to eat three and went to tell her only for her to say by going to the very dog friendly Cannon Hall Farm, that I wasn't supporting local businesses and again starting mouthing off. Tracy, Cannon Hall Farm is a local and family run business and secondly, perhaps consider some anger management classes. I won't be returning, just like many others whom you've been rude too.

It's busy most times I have visited and quite noisy. For a standard sort of garden centre cafe it's got a menu more suited to a gastro pub type restaurant with prices to match but unfortunately not the same sort of ambience - its more like a transport cafe. Breakfast is more competitively priced. They must have a ban on dogs as I don't recollect seeing any even though there were a lot in the shop. If so that's no bad thing.

After being told about a previous experience of the manager asking a new mum to leave because in her words “I’m not being funny we’ve got a queue” I thought we would give the Thyme Bistro another chance. What a mistake that was! Within minutes of walking in we were already leaving. Having two babies under 4 weeks old and another two at 1 years old we understand it can take time to find a suitable place to sit however the owner did not give us chance to do even that. She explained that “babies should be brought in in car seats” and that there wasn’t enough room for the prams. One of the mum’s has found it difficult to come out and this has made her feel even more uncomfortable and anxious about leaving the house. We left and went to Cannon Hall instead. After calming down I decided to revisit as I hadn’t gotten chance to speak to the owner as my friends were already leaving when I arrived. I was appalled to have the owner shouting in my face and telling me that they couldn’t cater for children as they didn’t have space, there is no sign to say pram’s cannot be brought in to the cafe, she also explained how she already had lovely customers so didn’t need any more. I will not be returning and I will be telling everyone I know or speak to about this uncomfortable experience. After reading some other reviews it is clear that this isn’t the first incident the owner has had with speaking to her customers. What a disgrace!

I take my very elderly and frail parents here regularly - they are real foodies though these days we are whittled down to coffee and cake. Thyme bistro is ALWAYS consistently very very good. It is Illy coffee and if you tell the staff exactly how you want it - such as - I like so much caffeine in my Americano I like to whizz round the ceiling but my Mum likes hers with a lot of hot water in case it is too strong! The enormous scones are always freshly baked and don't have cream of tartar in, which is a real turn off when you are used to good home baking. You see the same faces in here on a weekly basis and lots of my friends meet here for lunch weekly. There are always lots of waitresses - you pay at the counter, and by the time you sit down, the order is ready and comes straight o your table. I would highly recommend.

We have been regular customers over the years, but on Thursday 4 April, ordered an espresso, cup of hot water, 1 scone and small tub icecream, total £9.20, with a charge of £1.00 for the hot water!!! I did question it and that IS the charge for hot water- ridiculous ...

Lovely coffee, great scones and cakes and excellent service, no matter how busy, and staff are friendly and kind. Nicely decorated inside with plenty of room between tables and a super seating area outside in the sunshine. Very reasonable prices.

Called for Sunday lunch after long walk feeling very hungry.Shocked at the size of portions for £10.95 .2 slices of wafer thin beef sliced on a machine rather than freshly carved, yorkshire pudding, gravy and a dish the size of a teacup with a few pieces of vegetables to share !

The Thyme Bistro within Cawthorne Garden Centre is a wonderful place that serves a fantastic menu of really high quality food. The welcome from Tracey and her team of hosts is always a warm one, and they can never do enough to help you. We have been coming for years; we sit outside with our dogs on their beautiful terrace in the summer, and inside their warm and beautifully decorated dining room in the colder months. We love it, and we cannot fault any part of it. xxx

Visit every Sunday for breakfast and food of excellent quality every time. Been for lunch 2 days in a row. Food is excellent and the owner cannot do enough to cater for my gluten free diet. The staff are always helpful and clearly happy in their jobs as they are always smiling and never too busy for a chat. Can’t recommend this place highly enough.

This is my 2nd visit here with friends and on both occasions it has been a fantastic experience. The quality of food served is of a very high standard and they have cheerful waiting staff led by a pleasant manageress. They serve illy coffee which is no different from other outlets but what makes their coffee so good is a gleaming S40 to extract the espresso and a well trained barista thus churning the perfect creamy cappuccino. We come here on a weekend from Horbury as its worth the trek for the coffee alone.

Met a friend here for lunch yesterday and hadn’t been for a couple of years. It was very busy for a Mobday. The garden centre was disappointing, (smaller now and empty plant benches outside), but the food in the cafe was good. Had the prawn sandwich and a bowl of chips and my friend had the pie and chips. We both enjoyed it. Will visit again and give breakfast a try.

I was not expecting it to be quite so busy at 11.15 but this clearly reflects the quality of the breakfast on offer the efficient service and the pleasant staff. The downside is the noise. It's very loud due to the number of people who engage in non stop yapping even long after they have finished dining and should have vacated their table so others can sit. Amazing how long some people can make a coffee last.Probably from Barnsley.Go during a quiet period and it will be much more enjoyable.

There were nine hungry cyclists at lunchtime on a very busy day at Cannon Hall Farm. The service was brilliant - they found a table for us, the drinks appeared within seconds and great food a few minutes later. The staff were very good. It was the best service we have received on a busy Sunday lunchtime.

I used to visit here frequently many years ago and returned last week. The cafe has been extended and the food menu increased. There is an eating area outside where dogs are welcome which is useful. I had the steak and mushroom pie with chips and it was great. The staff and friendly and helpful and the service is fast. I will definitely return soon

Quite simply the tastiest, best presented pulled pork sandwich I've ever had. Serious compliments to the chef. Even though it was busy on a Sunday afternoon, the queuing system worked very effectively.

Visited on a Tuesday and had a cup of tea and a scone prior to walk around Cannon Hall museum and grounds. Excellent choice of teas (tea pigs) great teapots that pour well and a good size. Friendly and helpful staff. We returned for lunch. Great menu choice and specials were equally tempting. The lamb was so succulent and the roasted carrots and mint mash and tenderstem broccoli and jus was so tasty. Great choice of cakes too. Mid price. High chairs available. Dogs and owners can eat outside on terrace. Spotlessly clean toilets. Gluten free and vegan choices also. Will return for sure.

Went for food with my brother and his wife, I found the menu to be a bit bizarre and not many choices I actually fancied having. Went for the burger and to be honest, I didn’t think it was anything special. Meat was leaking so the bread was pink and soggy, it wasn’t seasoned very well either. My brother however had the same dish and couldn’t fault it. The real winner was the pie of the day which my sister in law absolutely loved. Prices are pretty steep and I think they should offer a bit more variety - wraps, jacket potatoes or fancy food , was a little bizarre!

Avoid like the plague ! Twice now this has happened where staff will have you standing for half an hour at a time and serve other people before you also when this was questioned the staff were extremely rude

We decided to go to Elsecar heritage centre on Sunday for a walk and a wander. It was crazy busy, and thought we would walk around the village. We dropped in on The Crown Inn, and was pleased to see such a nice cozy local pub still operating and serving good food. Next time we will pop in for a bite to eat. Well stocked beers and 3 pumps dedicated to guest beers. V.happy. Service was lovely and healthy banter and discussions with the locals. Keep up the great work.

Good range of food at reasonable prices. The venue is quite nice and the service was good. Plenty of people in there without being overcrowded so the atmosphere was good too.
