It’s really lovely in here. It’s wheelchair friendly so great to get my mum in. Lovely service and a nice varied menu. Decor is great and there’s a bar. Happy days.

The door was propped open and the place was very cold.I ordered toast and cheese. The food was cold when it came .I also Ordered chips. fries came. They were so hard I couldn't eat them .The staff were very nice but i will not go again.

Popped in for midweek lunch. The staff were welcoming and friendly, although service was a little slow. I had the warm beef and gravy with fries and my partner had a tuna melt, both really good. Would recommend and will return, but allow a little more time next time. Beware parking outside is for loading only.

Went in for a lunch, ordered a latte, sanpelligrino and 2 jacket potato’s, the waitresses didn’t ask if we wanted alternative milk as law states, not only this but the jacket potato’s were not cooked, and tasted mouldy. The waitress took it back to the kitchen and the chat came out, he was very rude and intimidating, telling us they were fresh and cooked this morning and not old, however when we questioned him on if he had tried it he said no. Not only this he then told us we had wasted his resources, and insisted we pay for them, we ended up being charged for our drinks and the toppings that we did not eat and the side salad that we hadn’t eaten either. The rudeness of the chefs put us off and the unbothered attitude of the waitresses I would not recommend and would avoid at all costs. With a chef who acts that way to 2 women who were alone, I was appalled and can only think what he is like in the kitchen. I hope that other customers read this and avoid or say to the staff about the food if something is wrong.

A friendly greeting on arrival and shown to a table. This was our first visit so really didn’t know what to expect. A good varied menu and given plenty of time to decide even though it was quite busy on a Saturday lunchtime

Really great cafe, it has a very interesting interior, which makes you feel like it's somewhere special. The staff are very friendly and attentive and the food was excellent. They have a full range of a cafe style menu, just presented in a way that's slightly nicer than a lot of places.

Great busy little place. Friendly staff, took order quickly and it all came super quickly. Coffee was very good. Family with me equally enjoyed theirs. Had an Oreo tiffin which was delightful! Shame I live 300 miles away otherwise would make it a regular stop for sure!!

Decent food, I probably ordered the wrong meal for my liking, the breakfast muffin is like a macdonalds breakfast meal (I presume that's how it's supposed to be). My wife ordered poach eggs on toast which was fine. The atmosphere is good although the decor isn't great, brick effect wallpaper! Overall nothing to complain about. Excellent service as well.

Called in this cafe for breakfast the breakfast was OK the price I payed was extortionate 11 pounds for a breakfast is a bit over the top 2 rashes of bacon 1 sausage tea spoon of beans tea spoon of mushrooms and 1 toast I expected a plate full for 11 pounds there's one thing for sure I will not be calling here again

I'll start by saying I was a bit reluctant to leave a review, but I feel I should. This has been a regular lunch spot when I meet with friends, and I have always enjoyed it. However today, I found a small piece of meat in my vegetarian wrap. I told the waitress and she apologized and took it to the chef. She then came back, and said the chef didn't know what it was and he was sorry.. that's it. I understand there is always a risk of cross contamination, but a "sorry" is not always enough. There was no offer of replacement, and despite the fact I couldn't eat it after that, they tried to charge me full price for it. I questioned it, and was was told it was up to the chef if I pay. In the end I was asked to pay half price for it, despite most of it being untouched. The atmosphere and food here is generally nice, but this was handled badly and really poor customer service. Coming from someone who has worked with food for many years, restaurants should know to take accountability for errors like these, and at least offer a replacement.

Great menu choice for vegans and great range of hot drinks! Anywhere selling chai latte with non dairy milk gets my vote! Great selection of cakes too! Perfect spot for post parkrun brunch!

Popped in for breakfast this morning and experienced what is probably the best cup of coffee I've had in a cafe this year. It was made even better by the discovery of the breakfast (Mc) Muffin with hash browns. All this with efficient staff and great atmosphere, perfect & highly recommended!

Food is fantastic here! Also yummy cakes and milkshakes.

Popped in here at the end of the day( Sunday) after walk on the Trans-Pennine Trail. We arrived at 3:45pm to find they were closing at 4pm and no longer serving unless take-away. This was fine but a shame.Interestingly, they told us a lot of people finish their walks around that time and look for coffee…. Seems a re-think of opening hours on a Sunday would be good, if allowed by law. Coffee was lovely and the flapjack we had was as good as we have ever had. They also operate a bar serving alcohol and the ambience in there was really good. A family business we would support if we lived locally.

Excellent customer service and excellent food as always. But will get a smaller teapot 🫖 next time

We come to Generations regularly for lunch, the daily menu is great and the specials are always amazing. Great size portions! The new interior is lovely too, we look forward to our next visit here.

My husband and I visited the cafe on Sunday. We both had the hummus and grilled vegetable wraps which we really enjoyed. This isn’t our first visit and we will definitely be visiting again!! The disappointment was the lack of attention by the staff. There were 4 front of house staff on duty and no-one came to check we were satisfied with our food, whether we wanted any extra drinks or dessert, nor did I see them visit any other table for service. Sadly your staff are doing you a dis-service and that’s why I’m going to the trouble of writing the review.

Nice little cafe with nice food at the right price

Stopped here for lunch because I fancied trying somewhere different. Do glad I did. The club Sandwich was fantastic. Best I've had in a long time. Staff were friendly and efficient and food didn't take too long to appear. Next time I'm in the area I'll definitely be stopping back in. Can be very busy at peak times.

Had a facelift with new decor a bar and a strange glass panelling bit around the toilet. Would be great if they were an evening meal place but the still remain very much a cafe in food offerings and opening hours (shut at 3?) Had a pump label for belgian blue on (am Xmas beer?l) No menus on tables got up to ask, staff stood behind the counter chatting. I was stood waiting to ask someone for help and someone walked straight past after watching me get up from the table. Place was busy, but I wouldn't say it's special. Its stuck between a evening/daytime establishment with young staff. Very typical Cafe food.

Solid place to have a meal in Penistone, especially after a long walk on the trail. Extensive menu means there is bound to be something for all taste buds.

We visited today (Saturday) for a hearty lunch on a rainy day. The place was full of locals enjoying everything from meals, a catch up brew with friends and young people enjoying a hot drink and cake. Our food was lovely. Staff very friendly. Both our children and hubby left very happy! There are other cafes in the area. I must say the seating, lighting and cleanliness of this place beats most.

Fabulous 👍. Called In after a long bike journey up the Trans Pennine Trail with my wife. We are both Vegans, I had the Vegan sausage sandwich, which is to die for. Beautiful atmosphere, was very busy when we called and buzzing. One thing to say, the background music needs to be more chilled and slightly louder (I would recommend a little modern jazz for such a brilliant place) 😊👍

Gorgeous home cooked food with good coffee and cakes

We visited with our grandchildren and had a great welcome. The orio milkshakes were superb and the cakes great. Not the cheapest but great value for money.

Was pretty busy but the food was good and came in good time. Perhaps booking ahead next time!

Visited for a lunch with a friend. Hardly anyone in there so lacking in any atmosphere. Had a sandwich and cake. Very average food. In no way blown away by it. Paid £8 for a tuna sandwich which was just that, no frills. Not sure where it gets the high reviews from. I won’t be bothering again.

Nipped in here for a bit of lunch on a quiet Wednesday afternoon. The staff weren’t helpful and took very long to serve us, weird when there was just us and another couple in there. It was £8 for a sandwich. The bread was stale. Portions were small, just a side of a few rocket leaves and wasn’t worth the price at all. We also ordered the fruit cake which was okay but again small for the ugh price you pay. Not much ambience to the place, noisy by the main road so not the best atmosphere. Wouldn’t recommend, nicer places to go in Penistone worth more for what you pay.

Very good food and service, abit expensive but worth it for something different

Return visit now that lockdown has eased and it is great as normal. It has had a revamp and the food and service are excellent as before. We go for the club sandwich and it's so big we share it between us.

Stopped off here on our way to Chester. Wanted an independent place rather than a chain. It did not disappoint. Service was friendly and efficient. Cake selection is vast and very reasonably priced. Their pecan and toffee blondie was to die for. Baguettes looked very nice too. Lovely place, relaxed atmosphere and very popular. Would definitely recommend.

This week my partner and I visited for breakfast and I had the best eggs benedict I've ever tasted! Absolutely perfect, amazing coffee and the usual fab friendly service. Generations maintaining its position as best spot in Penistone!!!

Great breakfast sarnies. They will make you one, yet won't disassemble it on a plate and make it a breakfast after 1130 Youd think on a Sunday they'd let that slide...

A lovely cafe. It's probably not the cheapest in town, but I expect it's the best. Eggs florentine for me, and a half sausage / half bacon bun for wifey - not on the menu, but she couldn't decide, and they accommodated. I've never seen a blondie before, but now I'm a fan. (It's like a chocolate brownie except it's blonde, bot brunette.)

Coffee and cakes certainly hit the spot.

Whilst passing through Penistone, we were looking for somewhere for an early lunch other than a chain restaurant/pub and found Generations. The staff were welcoming, friendly and efficient. The food was homemade, really tasty and well priced, Would highly recommend this bistro type restaurant.

Good measures in place for social distancing take aways. Too many nice looking cakes I HAD to buy 4! Not eaten them yet so can't review xx

Our fav local cafe, great breakfasts, friendly staff, great portions, choice of hot chocolate - white, milk or dark, fab coffee, our son loves the hash browns, chicken nuggets etc. Done amazingly well to keep open for takeaways during lockdown - can’t wait for it to reopen

So glad we found this place during the lockdown months. The coffee here is better than most retail chains I have been to. The customer service is A1. During COVID times there is clear instructions of how to order, and sanitizer is provided. The brownies/ cakes are to die for! And decor is beautiful, feels really welcoming :)

Friendly staff, great food, lovely atmosphere. Large selection of speciality coffees and cold drinks if you fancy something a little different.

We popped in for afternoon coffee and were delighted by both the drinks and traybakes. We sat in comfortable relaxing sofas and received friendly prompt service. There was an excellent selection of traybakes that tasted as good as they looked and cost only 5 pounds for two.

We are a regular here the cakes are out of this world and Food is yummy and the staff are friendly what more can I say.

We have been popping in as lockdown eased for takeaway coffee and cakes and cant wait to visit properly. Marvellous coffee and amazing homemade cakes and tray bakes as well as artisan ice cream. Lovely.

Great coffee /Mocha /food. Seating a bit eratic, not that comfortable and a bit crowded. Only one toilet - can have to wait. Location a bit off centre of Penistone.

Nice cafe, pleasant surroundings, good selection of meals and friendly staff. The Hot Chocolate was divine and the cakes mind-blowing. The basic menu prices are a little pricey, but OK for an occasional treat.

Nice cafe, good menu selections and devine Hot Chocolate. Prawn Sandwich, green side salad, couple of spoons of colesalw and a few crisps was a little over priced and could have been about a pound less. The Hot Chocolate pictured was devine and well worth the money.
