I’m in The Pudding Club! A brilliant night out in the Cotswolds, perfect for birthdays and get-togethers. The 65 diners all met in the lounge as strangers with a glass of chilled Buck’s Fizz The Pudding Mistress, Angie, announced the Pudding Club was open, so we all found our assigned tables and sat down to let the entertainment begin with the history of the Club, which started in 1985. Rules of the Club, the seven featured puddings and a little about their history and culinary creation followed. A ‘light’ savoury meal which had been ordered in advance of the event was served. Beautifully tender chicken in the most perfect tarragon sauce with vegetables (salmon or a vegetable wellington were also available). Jugs of iced water were available on the table and there was a bar which was open throughout the evening. The staff were amazing, nothing was too much trouble and The Pudding Mistress, Angie, kept the evening in order and entertained by banging a rolling pin on the table! Volunteer guests then brought the puddings into the room to parade them from table to table showcasing each wonderful bowl full of sweet, sugary heaven! Then they were reverently placed on a table where photographs of them could be taken before they were served to hungry pudding lovers. This particular evening were, banana banoffee, syrup sponge, summer fruit roulade, mango Charlotte, summer fruit roulade, chocolate mousse and citrus bread and butter pudding. Table by table, guests were invited by The Pudding Mistress to the table to begin the first of seven visits to try each creation. Some tables went up and each individual chose which pudding they liked. Other tables all had the same pudding at the same time as they worked their way through the menu. The puds were served on bespoke Pudding Club bowls which were retained and used for every visit to the table. Lashings of custard and cream were available to ladle over each delight. Marks out of ten were put onto a score sheet as each pudding’s merits were hotly discusssed. After five puds, there were some that dropped out. But I soldiered on and tried all seven. My absolute winner being the summer fruit roulade, which was like eating perfectly soft clouds as the delicate meringue and fruit with lightly whipped cream just melted in the mouth. My table, number seven, discussed each pudding then fell into jovial conversation like old friends. It really was a marvellous experience. At the end of the evening, about 10am, when all puddings had been tried, and a free for all followed for those who wanted more (the record being 31 servings eaten by someone during a previous evening!) Everyone was sated as the vote was taken at to which was the favourite. The result put onto the blackboard where all the puddings were listed. On the way out, everyone was presented with a certificate which was a nice keepsake of the evening, and listed every pudding which had been presented for our delectation during the evening. Highly recommended! An evening of fun, a good laugh in good company, and an opportunity to try puddings redolent of younger days which bought back many happy memories. I’ll be back!

Disappointing experience and sad puddings. The welcome drink apparently bucks fizz, oj with a prosecco top. Bar service - staff had no idea of how to serve even when it was just 4 drinks - waiting time ridiculous. Staff were polite but clearly out of their depth. Hosts at The Pudding Club, fighting for attention, initially entertaining which turned quickly to irritating competition between them. Considering the USP is the puddings - tasteless and very Disappointing- if this is the purpose it needs to be amazing - not a host banging a rolling pin shouting rules at people.

This was our second visit to the Pudding Club and unfortunately it was nowhere the standard it was at our last visit 10 years ago. Last time we attended in summer when all the summer puddings were on offer and it was a great experience. We decided to return for the winter puddings as we do love a good sponge! The hostesses were funny and knowledgeable. The 'light main' course was on the heavier side and more filling than anticipated (veggie wellington, chicken, salmon). But these however were much tastier than the famous puddings. We had: apple crumble, bread & butter pudding, jam & coconut sponge, chocolate mousse, ginger syrup sponge, banana and cinnamon sponge, sticky toffee pudding. Each serving of pudding was quite small (again, in comparison to last time). Two of them were 'good' (apple crumble, chocolate mousse) and the rest were really bland - for a Pudding Club, this was disappointing. The standard has slipped sadly and this will be our last visit.

Went to the pudding club supper. V dissapointing night out. Poor show by organisation that purports to represent the best of tradional British pudding. 4 of the puddings were sponge. Jam, syrup, chocolate and ginger. Remainder were average fayre. Not what youd expect if a night out where the emphasis is on celebrating the tradional British pud. Unimaginative for an organisation that has been running this same show for 40 years. Living off its past and its long standing wide ranging reputation. Cringe makingly embarrassing to have to explain to fellow guests from abroad that British pudding cuisine has very much more to offer. Dinner hosts tried their best but had been dealt a poor hand by management, other staff less than enthusiastic, service limited, " keep your dish for every course and come up to the counter to collect" , no table service for wine nor drinks, reception unwelcoming.

We attended The Pudding Club having been given a voucher as a gift. I know the experience was once highly prized and of great quality. The hotel changed hands before the pandemic I believe and I was looking forward to the experience myself. I was prepared for a very small main course as the main event is always the puddings. I was not prepared for the fact that the main course took one hour and 40 minutes to arrive when there were only two choices, chicken or fish. the puddings became available after nine pm, a choice of three different sponges, a treacle tart and three other cold puddings. It seems to us that the flavoring of the sponges was plonked on top so if you were unlucky enough to get a spoon from the bottom, the sponges had no flavour at all. Similarly the Eton mess had nothing but cream. The chocolate mousse was obviously made with powder. I suspect the treacle tart was brought in along with the banoffee pie which frankly was the highlight of an appalling selection. The puddings were beyond dull. The whole event was abysmal and tacky. And at £45 per head, woefully awful value. I am so sorry that this once great local institution has become so poor.

Booked for Sunday lunch. We were all excited as the food has always been amazing and the puddings obviously to die for! We were sad to find our table was in the bar! The restaurant was closed and not in use. There was no pudding buffet anymore either. The food was very good and the service was ok. But I do think very overpriced and it’s really not the same anymore.

I was gifted a voucher for Xmas to attend the pudding club and I was really excited. The pudding club is usually ONLY on a Friday from 7pm which made scheduling quite difficult because I have a young child. I eventually organized a babysitter and booked my Friday. The woman on the phone was so rude, couldn't handle the booking system, got many things wrong and had to call me back. Eventually it was booked and as the date got a bit nearer I was let down by my childcare so I emailed asking if I could reschedule. The lady told me I could but I had to give a date right now else no rescheduling. I said I couldn't give a date until I had spoken to a sitter else I couldn't attend. She told me it had to be NOW and couldn't be changed again. So I had to pick a random Friday. She booked it. I couldn't get childcare (unsurprisingly as I hadn't been able to pre plan it.) And I never got to attend. Pretty stupid rules if you ask me. I was excited to go! Why not just let me call the sitter so I could give her a correct date to reschedule? The woman's tone was also extremely rude and I have the enail exchange - I showed it to be people and they couldn't believe how rude she was! Wont be going there now!

We were given a trip to three ways house as an Xmas gift. So looking forward to going, what a disappointment. The bedroom was small and tired, toilet had considerable amount of scale in bottom, uch! The actual pudding club evening was something you would expect at a cheap holiday park, lots of shouting from a partularly annoying girl, it started with a small dried up piece of chicken and few potato pieces, we then had to go up table at a time to be given puddings that were obviously pre bought in, tasteless and dull. The que for the bar was long, only one person serving. As for breakfast the next day a small selection of dry and uninspiring hot food on a buffet table in the far corner, two choices of bread for toast cheap white sliced or cheap brown sliced, we asked for coffee twice and alas when it eventually came we had no cups and had to ask again. Mentioned a few things at check out but was told other guests were happy with service, I suggested they spent some time in the dining room where most people we spoke to were very disapointed

It started with such excitement but very sad to report a seriously disappointing night out. Who would not be excited by the possibility of seven puddings? To the detail: Our host was a very loud person who lost the room after her first sentence and then tried to gain control by shouting over all of us in a very high pitched voice. Before the detail of each pudding I need to comment on the menu. The PC website promises 4 summer puddings and 3 traditional/ hot ones in June - over promised and under delivered as we had 2 Summer and 5 hot. All puddings, especially the hot ones had the look of being bought at a cash and carry and tasted like they looked. The website mentions gooseberry fool and Eton mess but they were not at home Chocolate mousse - our host promised 56% chocolate content but I do not think that was the case, 56% milk chocolate maybe - average at best Spotted dick - too dry, could do better. Lemon Sponge - good lemon curd and decent sponge Sticky Toffee pudding - too much like another steamed pudding, average. Rhubarb and apple crumble - again very average. The crumble needed more time in the oven as the fruit base looked like the crumble had been chucked on top. Summer pudding - poorly executed Ginger syrup sponge - not gingery enough and yet another steamed sponge. Overall - I thought that the quality was nowhere near what I perceived was promised. School dinner quality and canteen style service just didn’t cut it. I wouldn’t bother.

Tried to book the pudding club via their website. It directly takes you to Three Ways Hotel. You can also book a room at the hotel through the Pudding club website. I thought the pudding club and a night stay would be ideal. It turned out that it only booked the room. NOT the pudding club. There needs to be a separate website for the rooms as no responsibility from the hotel is taken when you miss the pudding club. I booked to stay on the Saturday. The pudding club is only on Friday (so I am informed at a later date). The hotel stay was very uncomfortable too. Mattress has long seen better days.

We were staying in the hotel for 3 nights(with the option to stay on longer)from the 27th December as a late Xmas treat to ourselves. The staff are very good in the restaurant even though the youngsters done know much. The menu was inclusive in our DBB deal on the 1st night and the hotel was very quiet so the meal was great. The following day it all changed and the dinner menu stayed the same as from the previous week(Friday 22/12/22) with only 4 choices of starters & 4 main choices. The hotel seems to be struggling with Chef Staffing! Jason seems to be running the hole ship and he had 2 days off, so we ate elsewhere for the other nights of our stay there which was a shame for the hotel. Luckily for the staying guests, there are several other eateries in the village and close by to try out.

Easier if I just lost everything that was wrong about this place: - front entrance lovely and decorated, as soon as you get into the room where the evening is hosted, decor is dated and looks like you're in an office, barely any Christmas decorations - tacky background with the puddings listed on - cheap orange juice in the welcome drink - card machines not working (not their fault apparently, but it was get some cash out or you can't buy drinks, no compensatory apology drink or anything) - no background music - wait staff looked like they didn't want to be there - cheap tacky tables and chairs - last minute cancellation of vegetarian Wellington and substituted for what I think was a dark grey mushroom risotto (see picture), not exactly Christmassy when everyone else got a hearty salmon or turkey meal - cheap canteen trolley for the puddings which were dumped on plates, and an add on table with a school canteen style custard pot (which ended up with drips all over it by the first round) - puddings were worse than what you'd get in a bog standard pub, made with basic ingredients - jam roly poly barely had any jam, lemon sponge tasted of nothing, custard was basic, croissant bread and butter mixture has turned into sweet scrambled eggs, crumble topping was like an overly sweet biscuit; chocolate mousse was the only one that tasted as it should - felt like a child at a pantomime with the host, he swapped accents for no apparent reason and some of the stuff he said didn't even make sense Absolute waste of £40 and an awful Christmas party, disappointing as it's the first one we've had face to face for 3 years. There was one couple in the resteraunt area, which seemed odd for a Friday in December just after payday. Spoke to someone I knew whose family worked there for many years under previous owners and they said it was the opposite of what it had been like in its heyday. Funnily enough found a review from 2012 which pretty much describes the evening, so clearly nothing has changed! If your selling point is puddings, at the very least sort them out.

We visited this hotel for a family reunion in all there were 17 of us. Most staying in the hotel . After much negotiations and planning dinner was booked for 6.45 . Which had been confirmed just the week before! At the same time there was another large party in for dinner and a pudding club event (which was very noisy!) By 7.15 we still had not been seated but instead had been told that they were too busy and wouldn’t be able to serve us just yet ! By 7.30 we decided to go and seat ourselves and look at menus ! Which were not great to begin with! Eventually we were served drinks still no one to do food orders ! 1 hour late … at last someone came to take orders after more than a few complaints! Only to be told there was limited food available, no salads at all! Now to the meal , which arrived at about 8.45 starter was minimal and not that tasty but the main was bacon loin crispy duck egg and chips (they only had 5 of these left) well I was expecting a nice juicy gammon or bacon slice and fried egg , no! It was a very dry pork chop with a small scotch egg and some skin on fries ! Disappointing to say the least , everyone who ordered this had the same reaction and one was sent back , the whole meal was utterly tasteless , a couple of people who asked for just egg and chips were charged £17 just for that ! The whole party was very dissatisfied with the food provided ! It was quiet clear that they could not cater for the people they had booked in despite this having been booked for months! We have used this venue for the last 3 get togethers but definitely will not be back , a very dissatisfied experience! The whole place a feeling of being run down !

If you’re looking to be over fed and underwhelmed, all whilst reliving the memory of being in a school dinner hall, then this experience is exactly what you’re looking for.Firstly, the decor was dated and grotty. The chairs have been Jackson Pollock-ed with dried custard and cream (this I know as I watched a few waiters drip it all over the chairs during our session so Lord knows how much is absorbed into those seats). The master of ceremonies seemed bored to tears and my god how I don’t blame her - the whole experience needs a metaphorical lick of paint and a face lift.We were offered 3 main courses - chicken, fish or a veggie option. The MoC even said “we always tell the chefs to put less on your plate but they never listen, so make sure to leave half of it”. Is this not embarrassing to say out loud? Although, to be fair, I had no problem leaving half of it because the chicken was as dry as the multiple courses of sponge that were to follow it.The waiters were inexperienced and therefore the service was appalling. We asked for a cocktail - the waiter said he didn’t know if they did them so had to check. He returned just to say no and then left us without an offer of an alternative drink. I can’t decide which was more entertaining though: trying to get the attention of a waiter for any sort of liquid to wash down the canteen-style food (that we’d paid good money and waited months for); or watching a waiter scrape our food from each plate to another and pile them up on our table just like I do - as a teacher - with the 7 year olds in the dining hall. Then came the puddings - all variations on a theme (dry sponge or stale bread apparently), slopped rather unceremoniously into a bowl before being Frisbeed in front of you. Perhaps they’re aware of how dry and stodgy it all is because they’re quick to come round with the custard - unless you’re in the middle table like us, in which case you’re always offered it last, by which time you’ve already eaten (or attempted to) the pudding. The custard is probably the most ridiculous part - by the time it reached us, there was more custard on the outside of the jug than inside it, and on more than one occasion it was dripped over the tablecloth and chair when being poured on our pudding.Quite honestly, the worst part of the evening was finding out that the sticky toffee pudding didn’t come with a sticky toffee sauce. False advertising I say - this is quite simply just ANOTHER sponge! My favourite pudding was the chocolate mousse - a cold dessert - served on a hot bowl. I can’t say I was looking forward to chocolate soup as much as chocolate mousse but hey, at that point everything was just so hilariously awful that this just made it more funny.

Puddings are mediocre, with cold puddings served in hot bowls, one spoon all evening so you get a bit of each pudding on the next, no pizazz, room dated & inexperienced staff who tried their best but who haven’t had enough training. Overall 30 years of pudding club...great concept but needs updating and puddings that wow....it’s a pudding club!! It was so bad we had to laugh (or we would cry) Faulty Towers would have been an improvement. We were so excited to attend The Pudding Club (see separate review of the hotel). Having booked and the with lockdown waited 18 months we were buzzing to finally attend. It’s billed as “7 amazing pudding” & your “master of ceremony” so expectation is high. It started with us not being booked correctly but a bit of table shifting and the was sorted. But we weren’t given score cards & our table wasn’t given a table cloth. The ‘pudding club’ room (right next door to a newly decorated restaurant) was dated and hasn’t had a coat of paint for over 20 years (photos on here show it looking the same as 2012!!). Carpets are tatty, chairs stained, windows have blown glass and condensation and outside patio is a haven for weeds. Nothing ‘invites you in’. We were told by ‘the master of ceremony’ who was an employee with a large wooden spoon not to eat much of our ‘light’ main course so we can manage pudding. Good job as ours never came out with 3 staff ignoring us until I went to the kitchen and asked. The chicken was like rubber and the veg....we had been told not to eat as it would over fill us ....lovely. What a huge waste of food...30 people told to leave half of the food. Just serve less you have been doing this 30 years!!Then the puddings. None were memorable. We expected to want to keep going as they were so amazing. The sticky toffee wasn’t as good as a standard shop bought and the cold chocolate mousse was served on the hottest plates imaginable so it just melted. By the time we were offered cream...everyone had either salvaged what the could or given up with it! We expected to be wowed and want to eat them but by pudding 2 it was just a chore to get through them. This has been billed as having fanfare and great puddings.Yes be traditional, yes stick to a concept but the puddings are the star of the night so get them right and being the concept into the 21st century. The quality of them and the hotel decor needs improving. Sadly we wouldn’t recommend going and have been left disappointed. We went back to our room wishing we had eaten all that veg and left the puddings.

We had an enjoyable evening at The Pudding Club, held in the Three Ways House Hotel & Restaurant. The evening was fun, and we got on well with the others on our shared table. We would agree with a few of the other reviewers that the puddings we perhaps not as consistently good as we expected, and the private room where the event is held is a little cramped, but we would definitely recommend going to a Pudding Club evening for a good night's entertainment.

After having my works Christmas party at the three ways for many years , I have promised myself I would do a lovely Sunday roast there , it was my mums birthday today so it gave me a great excuse to book mum , mums friend and myself for Sunday lunch treat , we was booked in for 12:45 and got there early 12;30 pm as I never do late , we was given menu at 1pm and shown restaurant 1:30pm . Mum and I chose the roast beef and friend chose cod, the plates looked amazing , the Yorkshire’s was huge , all served with plenty of veg ( carrots , beans cheese leeks, cabbage ) all tasted lovely , what was the disappointment was the BEEF was so tough with lots of grissel , I managed to dissect some digestible meat but the two slices my mum had was uncuttable , the waitress took away our obviously still meat laden plates at the end of the meal with no comment , so as she was going I said nicely the meat was very tough , she apologised and would mention it to chef. The plus point of having a ((( unplanned)))meat free Sunday roast is we had plenty of room in our tummies for the famous pudding club deserts which did not disappoint ( buffet style ) sticky toffee pud, bread and butter pud,marmalade-apricot pudding , chocolate mousse all with lashings of custard or cream , having lots of meat free space as I previously said I tried STP & Lords pud . 2 x courses priced at £24:99 would be reasonable price for the atmosphere and meal if beef was included , rather pricey for Yorkshire and veg .... when I paid the bill I mentioned to the staff that the beef was inedible, which a rather curt reply from what I would think was the manageress was

I decided to book the Three Ways for Sunday lunch with my husband and teenage son as we were celebrating two birthdays and friends had recommended it. When we arrived there was no-one on reception so we had to search around to find the restaurant, but the setting was lovely once we found it! The service was a little slow but friendly. The menu was quite small with four main course options including two roasts (beef or pork) and a veggie choice. You could pay for two courses or three courses. We all decided not to have a starter (bearing in mind they are famous for their puddings!) and all chose roast beef. This took a little while to come and I must admit I was little disappointed in the meat. It was very tough and the top slice hid a bottom slice which had lots of muscle and gristle in it. The Yorkshire was good and the vegetables OK but nothing out of the ordinary. The roast potatoes were a bit undercooked and not crispy. However, the gravy was extremely tasty!

Room was dated in decor and lacked any luxuries including of fittings normally expected for the price. We were located in ground floor annex not main building, Sound insulation was poor could hear snoring from nearby room and next rooms toilet flush. We were located in room that allowed pets although we had cancelled that request. Room smelt of disinfectant. Bathroom very cramped though fittings better quality than bedroom. No room in car park so had to park on roadside outside. The breakfast was good and all staff welcoming so that was good. The place was rammed, yet we were fitted in and looked after pretty well, all things being considered. So glad to have found this hidden gem of a dinner club. Make reservations by phone (they don't do online bookings) to avoid disappointment then be sure to arrive at least 30 minutes early in order to enjoy this lovely hotel's lobby and have a drink (and to allow time to find parking!) On average, between 50-70 diners are seated at communal tables and a simple dinner (two choices: chicken or vegetarian risotto on the night we visited) is served without a bunch of fanfare since you are all there for the puddings. Our host for the night was Lucy who welcomed us and kept us entertained while explaining about the pudding club. You are encouraged to pace yourself, and you need to, in order to finish servings of all 7 puddings after which you score each according to your enjoyment. You are always welcome to go back for additional helpings and many do. The record is over 20 servings in a single night. At the conclusion, diners vote on their favorite which is crowned the pudding of the night and everyone goes home full and dreaming of custard.

Returned to visit “Three Ways” after 10 years!! Excellent location on the edge of the Cotswolds. Little had changed, food was excellent, the rib-eye roast beef was cooked to perfection, medium rare with a superb gravy full of flavour. Vegetables were good and in particular the roast potato’s lightly covered with herbs tasted wonderful. But here you must leave room for the puddings. Home of the pudding club we had a selection of three hot and one cold, pay for one but try them all. Hard to select a winner but the bread and butter pudding with creamy custard is hard to beat. There had been some confusion on booking that we thought we were a member of the pudding club but we actually turned out to be only dining with bed and breakfast, this however was quickly amended in our favour despite it being a mistake on our part! We booked to come back here as we had enjoyed a wonderful Sunday Lunch here last year also it was a friends birthday, I wish we hadn't bothered! We were seated and were promised some bread and water, which we had to remind them they had not brought after 10 minutes, no drinks orders were taken and again had to ask to order some drinks. Our food order was eventually taken and after quite a delay and again asking if they had forgotten us, it turned up! The starters were OK, the Haddock fishcake tasted very little of Haddock, the goats cheese starter was good. We had ordered 3 Beef main courses and one Turkey dinner, the turkey did not have much flavour and 2 out of the 3 Beef plates had 1 meagre slice of beef, the gravy/jus on all 4 plates was just about warm, the roast potatoes were fine so were the carrots but the other veg was what I would call overcooked. There was a massive Yorkshire pud on each which was no compensation as this was well overcooked to boot.

We attended a 40th Lunch/Pudding Club party 10th September. Can only assume the actual evening Pudding Club experience is better, others of our party who had experienced it previously were disappointed too. We all had a lovely time together, the birthday lady had gone to so much trouble to get details right, however, there were muddles with orders, one missing on our table, very surprising for things so simple. It felt rather like we were all an 'add on' to their weekend! The Manager on duty had been quite rude and couldn't even back it up with good organisation. Our meal was ok; we had to ask for more veg as sadly lacking for large tables, likewise the coffee. The Staff were helpful, but we could have run the event more smoothly ourselves. I am not a huge pudding lover, however, the Crumble was as good as anyone could make, the Pavlova was hard and crunchy and the fruit nearly broke teeth! The other puddings looked ok, though after the fanfare, rather underwhelming and I heard from others that the custard was very thin. I've since heard other things we guests didn't notice were not organised as arranged. Will never go again and wouldn’t recommend. Very overpriced for what was on offer. Shame, at least the party was a happy one!
