Beautiful old pub. Hidden gem down the Bottom of hay town . Service was friendly and prompt once the place got busy. Beer was great ales on the ball. Food was only Sunday fare on, which was great . Bit tight on meat portion and roasts where cool. Cauliflower cheese was cold, but the fresh veg were pipping hot. Give it a try . Prices were about average.

Three of us had lunch on 18/09/2024. I had 3 bruchetta: two caprese and one cannelloni: delicious. My wife had the salmon tagliatelle, also delicious. Our friend had the platter which was amazing feast: meat, cheeses, olives, salads, bread and breadsticks... fabulous. My wife and I enjoyed the local Wye Valley Brewery Nightjar stout on tap. Had I not been driving I would have tried the Three Tuns bitter, also on tap. The service was good and the staff super helpful. I have to admit that my heart sank when I first viewed the menu as it was mainly Italian plus some burger choices; but I hadn't realized that it's all freshly prepared and not out of a packet. The prices were very reasonable too. What a happy discovery. Highly recommended.

We joined the family here for dinner one Monday evening. It was extremely busy and the staff looked to be struggling to cope. When the waitress delivered the drinks we all slowly unwrapped our cutlery to use the serviettes to mop up the mess. When we asked about the provenance of the meat the waiter said he didn't know! Honest I guess but there was no effort to find out. And don't be fooled by the term 'slaw'-in reality it's a teaspoon of dried carrot and rubbery red cabbage. I should have given one star but it was good they were open on a Monday.

We met up with friends from different areas for a random lunch. We hadn't booked and a table for 10 was quickly set up. They are welcoming to dogs, kids and vegans and everyone's tastes were catered to including my daughter just starting out with spicy food so the recipe was adapted for her and she was even brought a glass of milk when she found things a little hot. Everyone very friendly and welcoming and helpful and lovely from the bar to the service to the kitchen. They were clearly very busy and we had to delay ordering to wait for some of our group to arrive so the food did take a while to arrive, but I think that was because we hit the busiest time of day with a large group. This place is amazing, we asked our hosts for a good place to eat and they said to come here. Delicious Italian food, pasta and pizza and a great atmosphere. Staff were really great and the Boss was a star landlord, we enjoyed the place so much we went back for burger and chips the next day and that was superb. Very busy pub with lots of people eating and you can see why with food this good. We don't live that far away and pop to Hay every now and then for a day out and now we've found our fav pub in Hay. Thanks and see you next time. Nathan and Lynne P.S Went back again for a pizza as we were peckish and shared one and had a couple of pints. The barman with the shaved head who had looked after us all weekend was amazing once again. However when I came to pay for my food there was another couple with a baby that wanted to pay and the other barman with black hair asked who was next. I said let them go first and he served them, then ignored me and served five other people before coming back to me, leaving me standing. The other nice barman with shaved head picked up on it and said I'll be with you as soon as I can. We had eaten there three times this weekend and felt really looked after by the first barman, I cannot thank him enough. However I felt the arrogance of the second barman really blew it for us and now I think let's not go back. Shame it tinged the service there, because if I don't say anything you won't know.

We also ordered a cheeky cheesy garlic bread, and that was suprisingly lovely! Someone had really taken great care in preparing our meals and the staff couldn't be more helpful. We even got a recommendation for where to go for some good local produce when we mentioned we were camping and wanted to stock up on cheese and meats. Brilliant experience - well done team Tuns.

We were booked in for Sunday roast. On booking we told the restaurant about the foods I am allergic to (one of which is egg). Upon arrival we confirmed with the bar staff the allergies I suffer with. On ordering the roast beef I was asked what my allergies were again and then I was asked by the staff again a few minutes later. At this point I have spoke to 3 different members of staff about my allergies. For dessert, I asked for ice cream and asked the staff at the time I ordered if it had egg in, I was told “I will check”. The ice cream arrives and just as I was enjoying my second spoonful of ice cream a member of staff ran up the stairs to tell to stop eating as the ice cream may have egg in. As anyone who has had an allergic reaction can tell you, this can be a very stressful experience. A nervous 5 minutes later a 4th member of staff (who I assume was the manager) ran up to tell me that it didn’t have egg in. He was very apologetic. To further apologies our deserts and drinks were refunded. This experience spoilt what was intended to be a relaxing Sunday roast. The overbearing experience from being asked so many times about my allergies made me nervous that the front of house and kitchen had no confidence, experience or training with dealing with what in reality are quite simple allergies. The incident with the ice cream summed it all up. I think the staff would have been more relaxed and capable if I had walked in and announced I had a bomb instead! For the sake of balance, the roast beef was really good, as was the gravy, I would recommend going if visiting and you don’t have any allergies

Tasty food, but I don't think I can say it was amazing. The menu was limited and I felt had too large a range of burgers with chips, although there were other dishes, pasta and curries. The food was served with a smile and the place was busy. I also thought the eating area where we were had harsh lighting and so, if you going for a quiet, romanic meal, I would not select this place. Popular with families. It was busy when we were eating and you can get a decent meal, but again the cost of food these days makes even a burger quite pricey!

Ordered pork and given spam! I do not expect a lot from pub food but did not think this low. First of all, when we glanced at the menu the starters were printed double sided, when asked for a new menu took about 15 minutes to get us a new one. After that we had our italian main, nothing about it was italian apart from the undercooked pasta. For our dessert we ordered tiramisu, if you don’t like amoretto then don’t get it as that’s all you can taste! The next day we came for a Sunday lunch after a hike and the atmosphere was very negative. We ordered and when the food arrived there was no crackling even though it is listed on the menu, when we asked they persisted there was some on the plate, there wasn’t! After i had finished my pork, there was a last piece of “pork”. I showed the waitress it and she looked very disgusted by what was on my plate, she went and asked the chef. She came back very argumentative and rude calling it stuffing, let me make clear that my friend ordered the same thing as me and did not have this so called stuffing and neither did the couple sat near us. Avoid this place if you want a nice meal!

Probably the best looking pint of HPA I've ever seen, diamond clear, never mind crystal, and holding the glass beautifully as it goes down. I'm so impressed I'm literally writing this review as I'm sitting in the pub! The menu looks very Italian themed which is no bad thing for me, but this evening, we're in town to try the Indian, so we won't be eating. But I would definitely come back to try the food here. We been a couple times and foods nice enough to go back a couple times. But today we got 2 small carverys which were fine and to normal pepsi's. They come to the table one with out ice and mine with just a couple cubes as we asked but they were all soda and no syrup or had accidentally been made with pepsi max it happens , we had a tiny sip and then went got food, ate and then I had another tiny sip as it was horrible and my partner had very slightly more than me but we were done and decided we would pay and ask at the counter if they would accept taking the charge for the pepsi off as we have not had them as either the syrup had run out or we had been given the wrong one. BEFORE I had finished saying about the syrup the worker was cutting in to tell me " no no nothing wrong with barrel I have just checked" so I then said well maybe we had been given max by mistake "no I have served 40 Pepsi's today and nobody else has complained." I said well you can try them try mine I have had a tiny sip "no I don't drink pepsi or pepsi max, but i know there is nothing wrong but I'll take them off " like it was such a big deal I could understand if we had drank half of them or somthing but we hadn't there was an issue ... It should of been sorry to hear that , maybe gone and checked how much was drank and then I'll remove them for you now . In my opinion it was bitchy and unnecessary we weren't pepsi bandits making off with a free sip.

We dropped in without booking hoping to get lunch. I was with my friend and her disabled dad. They were able to offer us a table and from the start the experience was excellent. The staff member ( I think it was the Manager) came out to the car park to see if we needed any help with the wheelchair. We were promptly seated and drinks and food order taken quickly. All members of staff were polite and friendly. The food came in a good waiting time and we were all really pleased with the food. I had an ultimate burger, my friend a Thai beef dish and her dad an all day breakfast. Great portion sizes, hot and all tasty. Really reasonably priced as well ! Thankyou for such a great experience

Nice enough pub and the ladies working there were very pleasant. After reading the reviews we were looking forward to a nice lunch but I was bitterly disappointed by my choice. The lasagne had virtually no filling, it was all pasta and completely lacked any flavour at all. I've never used so much salt and pepper with a meal to try and add some taste. I really hope they improve on the recipe moving forward.
