We had a drink before ordering dinner. When we went to order we were told abruptly the kitchen was closed at 7.50pm as they had a large party come in. It would had been polite to announce the kitchen would close and give people a chance to order food. Quite a number if people were turned down for a food order.

Ok pub, few mins stroll from cathedral, right by shops. Lots of seating, dog friendly. Mediocre food - cheap and nasty to some, cheap and cheerful to others. But an ok pub overall. Very close to whitefriars car park.

Our first visit to Canterbury and decided to eat here for the first evening with not a huge expectation. Well, yes it’s pub grub but it’s very nice pub grub and arguably the best pub grub meal I’ve had. As a couple we both had the same (hunters chicken) and it was something like £12.49 for both meals. Outstanding value! The venue is nice with lots of different areas to eat which made it feel more personal too. My only discrepancy was that my fist pint was a bit flat which I know can happen. The second was from a different pump and much better. Definitely worth a visit!

Enjoyed a lovely delicious dinner and drinks for a fraction of a price you would pay somewhere else, staff were so nice and attentive came over a few times to ask if the meal was ok and if we needed anything else,simply a great experience and would definitely come back

We had a great experience, although the price of drinks seemed high,it was the going rate for the area,and as when I first started drinking it was 12.5p a pint two and sixpence was the norm.Nicely decorated, and the menu looked interesting, well worth the visit.

We didn't eat here as the service was very slow,may have been staffing issues....

The Three Tuns was recommended to us for lunch by athe lady we sat next to in the Marlow theater. So we thought we would try it.

Relaxed feel to this pub great deals yummy food we got given a pub voucher for our wedding so we thought we use it here will be coming back.

Went to watch Australian Football State of Origin Gane 3 the decider and it was great. My team won and the staff where very helpful with getting the game sorted for us on Sky Sports. Great venue

Food was enjoyable & cost friendly. Tables could have been cleaner. Toilets in need of renovation.

This is our go to pub for our pre show drinks before we head to a show at the Marlowe and although we have to walk past the theatre from the station to get there we found that it is one of the cheapest pubs in Canterbury. A lovely comfortable pub in a friendly environment especially from the bar staff, they were excellent by the way and very welcoming, had plans to visit for something to eat after the show but my friend felt unwell. Food looks good and plenty and the menu very reasonable on prices so will definitely be eating before our next show in September. A great range of beers and ales on tap too.

Stayed at the Hampton inn in Canterbury (nightmare too find in a car), and was looking for somewhere to eat, the Three Tuns was just a short stroll away so we thought we would eat there, what a great choice this was, the food was inexpensive and the quality was very good, there was a friendly atmosphere and the two guys running things could not have been nicer (sad I never got there names, but one gentleman was Irish and the other had red hair and glasses). We will definitely be back next time we are in the area.

Great pub good food amazing staff We were there on England game place rammed staff worked their socks off well done to the barman Sean had to deal with extremely rude young lady dealt with situation calmly and professional had a great evening the staff are all welcoming and so efficient

Great spot for Sunday roast. Amazing deal with nicely sized portions. In the centre of Canterbury. We were really full afterwards and will definitely come back.

Overcharged on Senior meals. And then main course took an hour to arrive (after a prompt). Food and beer were good, but the meal service far to slow without communication!

I like this city centre pub. The main bar area is roomy. Then there are little alcoves and quiet areas to sit and chill with your drink. There's a nice conservatory out the back and a large paved garden area.

Excellent pub, just off the high street. Excellent food at a very good price.

My husband and I were down for Canterbury pride very friendly staff nice atmosphere and great prices for Canterbury too we had a meal and we both enjoyed the food will definitely go back when we are down again

Nice local pub with plenty of seating areas. They also have a good menu with a special deal for senior citizens. Be aware though that last orders were at 10.30pm. **UPDATE** Have now noticed that they have a GLUTEN FREE MENU as well as the regular menu.

Despite the volume of customers the staff were patient efficient and polite. Food was basic but good value and seating was comfortable.

Choose this place for a quick drink. Not a bad venue. Good and quick service. I like the ambience and positive vibes.

Give it a try is all I can say We called in on the afternoon of Thursday 9th May. Greeted by the man behind the bar with a warm relaxing smile, it was not busy by any means just a couple of gents and a young girl in the bar area We decided to give the very inexpensive seniors meal deal a shot and we were glad that we did 3 courses were great value and everything cooked to perfection. It's rare in this day and age to find somewhere that offers such great value and not only that it's served with a smile by someone who knows what customer service is all about.. Please pass on our greatfull thanks to the person on duty behind the bar and also to the kitchen staff.. We look forward to calling in on our return to Canterbury.

SHOCKING FOOD AND SERVICE Me & my partner visited this pub on Sunday lunchtime it was about 12.30, all we wanted was a roast dinner, the roast beef turned up and I asked for mint sauce, the reply was sorry we’ve not got any so then I asked for horseradish sauce the reply was sorry we’ve not got any and then I noticed I’d been over charged for drinks so had to get a refund and then the roast beef turned up, I left all the roast beef as it was a plate of fat which I couldn’t even get my knife through so I complained to the barmaid and I was offered a £4 refund. All I wanted was a nice meal with my partner and it never happened and the refund was just an insult, will never step foot in a green king pub again.

Visited on a Saturday lunchtime very buay as many patrons were watching Liverpool v West Ham, didnt eat as food wait was 45 mins+ good atmophere though.

Nice spot off the high street. We had dinner there twice with both meals being very good. The staff is very friendly and the service was good.

It used to be a nice pub, which did food, now seems a cheap copy of Witherspoon but not at their prices. Ordered a pint, I could see the glass was dirty, and asked if I could have it in a clean one, totally ignored, and served in dirty one, will not be going back in a hurry, plenty of decent pubs in Canterbury.

Brilliant afternoon spent in the Three Tuns with friends and family. Food is reasonably priced and what we ordered was delicious. The bar staff were very attentive, even after coping with a huge influx of students that had arrived unexpectedly . Would highly recommend a visit!

Arranged to meet some friends for a few drinks some food and a catch up so glad we chose the Three Tuns the staff were extremely welcoming and served us straight away even though they were very busy with a large amount of students. The locals were very friendly and helped create a great atmosphere. After a few drinks we ordered some food which was fantastic and great value for money. If I lived in Canterbury i would use this as my local. It’s a great pub with extremely friendly helpful staff was a fantastic afternoon will definitely be back. Well done Three Tuns.

As always when visiting the pub, we are met with polite and friendly staff, who provide an excellent service throughout. The food is always of quality & very much value for money, which n this day and age, is not often said. I will continue to go back & enjoy the visits there I’m sure.

Wonderful cheap lunch spot in Canterbury with brilliant deals Unless they take in large groups of students whilst you sit and decide what to eat and find that they are prioritising students not regulars . Kitchen closed suddenly so off to feed ourselves unwillingly elsewhere Won’t stop using of course just surprised and hungry as I love the food and atmosphere

Lovely place! Come in frequently for a few drinks or food. Paul is always so polite and welcoming. Consistently checking to make sure everything is okay even when extremely busy. Always a great atmosphere :)

A good menu, with reasonably priced food and efficient staff. Totally let down by the Gents toilet! Very, very smelly, broken locks on cubicle doors led to my husband having to do his business sitting on the pan and with his leg stretched out to hold the door closed! Really not what we expected from a Green King establishment

Cannot fault the place at all. Really pleased after a bad experience elsewhere last night. We will definitely be back before we go home!

Nice pub to go to in Canterbury. They also screen matches so the atmosphere was quite good. The drinks were also very cheap which was great. Good for a few drinks!

Welcoming pub, good service but poor food. Steak was inedible. Toad in the hole was hard. Pie was ok. Cheap. We went here as we were hungry and didn’t know the area. Later found many more places we could have chosen. Pub has character.

Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Food was very nice and well presented. Would definitely go back again. Only let down was ladies loos wasn't very tidy.

Decent lunch at the Three Tuns today. Ordered the fried platter and curried chips which was all as to be expected- rather nice. Had a problem with our mac and cheese side which was quickly sorted by the waitress. Food is fairly cheap, drinks fairly cheap and overall a decent pub in the heart of Canterbury.

Brilliant Pub, lovely atmosphere. We had the banquet room for our family get together. This is a lovely room, ideal for big groups. The pub is a lovely old style pub, lots of beams and inglenooks. Staff are really friendly and polite. There were 17 of us and the Cooks, Connor and Mike did an amazing job with great tasting proper pub food, and getting out to us all together, thanks guys - brilliant job. Paul the Deputy Manager was fantastic, from taking the details of the booking and making sure all was ok, checking up on us always, nothing was too much trouble. Would highly recommend the Three Tuns, for great tasting food, brilliant staff and lovely atmosphere. Thank you all for making our family night enjoyable. See you again soon.

Great pub with good beer, and decent food for what they charge, and really nice staff. It can get busy when football or rugby are on, but this became my local for a long weekend and I'd go back there like a shot.

Shame that you pay just under £9 for a (small), bottle of Prosecco and they still serve you it in a flimsy plastic cup ! PLEASE NOTE..... We came for a little brunch and ordered four of the all day breakfasts. I’m a vegetarian and asked if they could tweak the meal for my diet and they were able to do so. The service was impeccable, food came out on time, and was delicious. Thank you to our server JP for taking care of our meals and drinks, will definitely be coming again!

Great spot for spot of lunch, BYO breakfast roll for £2.99! A soft roll with a choice of three fillings! I had bacon and two sausage's! And came with a pot of HP sauce. It proper hit the spot!

Well I must say the most unwelcoming place to walk into!! We walked in to be told it was last orders so we ordered two rounds of drinks, sat down to a member of staff clearing away glasses looking at her watch. It was very clear that they didn’t want us coming in at 10.15pm to order a few drinks. No wonder the place was empty with the staffs attitude like that,I think they all need customer service training. Won’t ever step foot in that place again!! Other people came in too to be totally ignored so just walked back out. Not a way to run a pub!!

What a shame. I have just called this pub to reserve a table for Sunday lunch for our family gathering. I was told to book the table Online. Whilst I have the capability and capacity to go online, in my job I see many people that sadly do not have the ability. For this reason I refuse to visit this establishment.

Came in over Christmas with family and was surprised at how big this pub was! It goes way back with lots of intricate little cubby holes. Paul looked after us and he was ever so charming and helpful. He had the whole table laughing. It’s nice when someone looks after you and actually takes the time to stop and chat rather than just trying to get the process over and done with as quickly as possible and move onto the next patrons. We had something to eat which was also great. And the service was quick!! Loved the atmosphere in the pub so will definitely be coming back. Looking forward to trying the rest of the menu.

Went here twice on a two day break in between Xmas and New year...had a couple of drinks first day and food the next...lovely food and great staff...lovely old pub.was extremely busy at this period and would suggest ordering food at the start of the service time.there is also garden at the rear.

When questioned after 30minutes wait all I was given won't be long now.... about 10mins. Staff very unhelpful as to explaining the delay.or apologising When food finally arrived, again no apologies for delay, just stock standard excuse of We've been busy today I've only just come on. I don't know .May be down to misunderstanding. Could they not be honest and say they messed up the order, APOLOGIZING and putting it right instead of their give a fxxx attitude, wandering around trying to look busy. Staff attitude of blank stares and no assistance resolving issue ruined atmosphere. Food was unremarkable with a handful of chips and 6pieces of scampi with peas , hardly worth The price. And let's face it frozen scampi and chips is not difficult to get right Glad it's not my local. Hello Alun Thank you for your reply that would be applicable IF THE PUB WAS BUSY at time of visit. It WAS NOT with only 4 orders coming out of the kitchen during our visit, and patrons leaving as opposed to arriving. with bar tenders serving the occasional refill. As for the other points raised in my review are you going to just ignore these or are they standard practice at your establishment. Please see othe comments from other reviewers outlining these issues of poor unatentive service.

This’s is a very nice comfortable pub, good location but unfortunately we wouldn’t go back to eat, the pie was very burnt and black sandbthevalevtaste Co it was steak and ale but the ale taste completely overpowered the pie, my chips were cold and not cooked properly the full English breakfast was not good, it was cheap ingredients and cold the staff were warm, helpful and friendly but due to the disappointing food, we would not return or recommend this was a total let down such a shame because it is in the centre of Canterbury and nice inside we would definitely not return to eat

On arriving found pub busy but warm and friendly. Food was hot and plentiful. Bar staff great. Food is great value especially for a city centre pub

Made a group dinner reservation for 8pm, just to discover at 8.30, just after having ordered drinks and when we were ready to order food, that the kitchen was closed. The pub ‘manager’ announced this with a poker face, and because I was with friends visiting from abroad and speaking another language, he must have thought we were all tourists and just said ‘no food’ not even apologising nor smiling, nothing, and assuming we didn’t speak English. Absolutely rude and racist attitude. When I went to ask the guy who had initially walked us to our reserved table what was the point of accepting a dinner reservation when the kitchen needed to close so soon, he was more apologetic but said there was nothing he could do if ‘the boss’ had said so. This is definitely a first for me, pubs staff are generally friendly and helpful, but definitely it wasn’t the case at The Three Tuns, absolute joke of a service.

Spending Christmas in Canterbury we booked our Christmas Day lunch here. We were greeted by drunken groups of men as we entered and their noise and unpleasant language and behaviour throughout our visit left us feeling threatened and insecure. Staff carried on as if nothing was amiss and we were about to walk out in the middle of what should have been a happy Christmas lunch. Manager moved us to a different room but the experience was too upsetting to continue pleasantly. Food was hot and plentiful and staff did their best.

The barman needs lessons in observation and customer engagement. Ignoring customers standing at bar while he tidies his stuff and then chooses to serve the chap who butts in is not good enough. We went elsewhere.

After a nice day out visiting Canterbury we found this delightful pub for an evening meal before heading home to London. Maise was a great help and very cheerful. Thank you for the hopitality, we will return one day.

We went to The Three Tuns for a roast. We live local and have been in here a few times. We had a roast dinner - a beef one and a turkey one. They were big dinners! The food was lovely and hot. I couldn’t finish mine. You really cannot complain at the prices they charge! Don’t think I’ll ever cook a roast again 😀 Was an amazing dinner - thank you

Superb service despite being super busy. Lavinia was the most accommodating person in the bar, despite looked like being extremely busy supervisor/manager on the shigt. Hands down best service since sliced bread :) Well done guys:)
