Three Horseshoes in Taunton Deane

We booked this after a recommendation from friends. The web page did not give prices or allow online bookings but a quick call had a friendly response although we were told “The roast is beef this week” - no choice - but as carnivores this would be fine for us. We arrived on time and saw several tables already occupied. The greeting was warm and welcoming and we were very quickly settled with drinks in hand. The lunch was really good. Melting and tender beef on each (hot) plate with crispy roast potatoes and parsnip and a yorkshire pudding; dishes on the table of beautifully cooked peas and carrots, red cabbage, green cabbage, cauliflower cheese, and plenty of savoury gravy. Yum. We had a leisurely lunch, clearing our plates, and the bill, including a dessert each and drinks, was approximately £25 a head, which we thought very fair value for what we had. While we were there several locals called in for takeaway lunches so that service seems good too. We will be going again, soon.

Staying in the area our group were up for a nice quiet night out, after reading some reviews( knowing you cant please everyone) we plumed for the shoes and was not disappointed. Old Somerset pub with character, a warm welcome and good food. We can be hard bunch to please when it comes to food as one of us doesn't eat this and another doesn't eat that( it's an age thing) "No problem" was the reply when we picked through the menu. Fresh veg and homemade mash was a plenty and everyone cleaned their plates. We enjoyed it very much and booked Sunday lunch and it was outstanding( the best I have had in a pub for a long time) Well done and thank you.

Pleasant enough surroundings, homely pub. Bar was very limited- lemonade and coke poured from plastic bottles - not tapped (flat) Bar manager was friendly but very sarcastic at times with issues raised - but was kind enough to not charge for a meal not eaten. Food was just awful! All precooked and frozen - Iceland style ! Don't bother if you don't like fish or curry as that was the only thing on offer Seeing as there is a lot of fish on the menu I presumed that the fish may have been cooked freshly and was shouted at .... ' let's be honest it's all frozen and chucked in the fryer' Not really the response you are looking for on a birthday meal out . All bottles of red wine are charged at £28 on the bottle yet £7.20 on the large glass - I'll let you do the math for 3 large glasses ?? Just overall not a nice experience- would not return ever !

Lovely pub and excellent, beautifully cooked food. Nice range on menu to suit all tastes. We had calamari and crab cakes as starters - looked and tasted delicious and very fresh. For main course, we had duck with freshly cooked vegetables and red wine sauce which was superbly cooked. Cod and chips and sticky toffee pudding with sauce and custard lovely too. Would highly recommend this “gem of a pub”. Staff were so friendly and helpful. Food prices very reasonable for the quality of food provided. Had a lovely evening

I visited here with 4 friends tonight. We visit a lot of pubs and curry houses as a group and we thoght we would check this out. We all had very nice meals and there was plenty of choice. I was a bit cpncerned about the vegetarian options so I phoned in advance the night before. They were very accommodating and made me an excellent jackfruit curry, which I really appreciated. The pub itself is a really nice country pub, very welcoming and the beer is good. The landlady is very friendly and treated us well. We will definitely make a return trip and I would recommend it to anyone else.

Arrived Houston before opening but very kindly let us in and got us a drink straight away. Great food, lovely home made pie & delicious scampi. Fab service, we were well looked after. Would recommend.

Arrived at the Pub last Friday evening and was made very welcome by the owner. Pub is excellent and the food was superb, my wife had the Steak and Kidney Pie with lots of freshly cooked vegetables, I had the BBQ Ribs which were excellent. Had a hard job to choose what to have as menu offered a great variety from Starters to Mains to the Sweets. Will be going back next month when we are in the area again, looking forward to it.

Visited on Saturday just before owners went on holiday. 2 draught beer pumps run out because they didn't know when they were getting low. Running out of crisps and nuts because they were going away for 6 nights - why? When someone was coming in to keep the pub running. More like a town cocktail bar than a local pub.

You are made to feel very welcome and immediately feel at home. Had a good meal of Fish & Chips. Will return

We dropped in here for a meal and were pleasantly surprised !! this is a small country pub ( With food ) and the food is Good Restruant Quality - All freshly cooked _ Hot and very tasty - a good selection - also the Sweets - superb - Especially the Eton Mess -Freshly made with fresh strawberries ( I enjoyed that much i had TWO ) We enjoyed our meal there so much that we had another meal a couple of days later

Auf Empfehlung unserer Gastgeber sind wir hier eingekehrt. Der Service war sehr nett und hilfsbereit. Das Essen sehr lecker. Nach längerem Gespräch mit den netten Jungs aus der Küche und mit Hilfe von Google hatte ich eine leckere Pastinaken Lauch Suppe. Preis-Leistung ist top.

Good food , really busy on the night we ate can really recommend the homemade steak and kidney pie with new potatoes.

Visited the Three Horseshoes without pre booking for an anniversary meal earlier in the week. For us the local rump steak was cooked to perfection, although we had quite a wait we didn't mind as there was a nice ambiance. Staff were very pleasant and eager to please. Definitely plan to revisit just won't leave it so long since our last visit ..... 15 years.

The Otter ale was good but we waited for almost an hour before our meals were served. Beer battered cod was cooked from frozen of Iceland quality and the duck was cremated and resembled shoe leather. We were utterly disappointed and as local residents obviously won't be recommending this to anyone.

I swear that is the best steak and kidney pie I have ever eaten! My partners steak meal looked very tempting too......shame I couldn't eat both!

We have a meal here about once a month (and, occasionally, Sunday lunch) and never have we been disappointed! The food and service are both first rate. Be aware that they do not open for lunch except on Sundays.

¿Qué más se puede pedir aparte de buena comida casera, una buena pinta de cerveza local, un entorno acogedor con un ambiente a la par. Varias partes de este antiguo edificio han sido reformadas y todas pintadas que realmente agradable. Lo mejor de este lugar es que la señora de la casa le encanta su trabajo, siempre me hizo sentir muy bienvenido; y su esposo obviamente le gusta cocinar, como él hace, que es preparar comida deliciosa y bien presentado.

Un pub tradicional pueblo con un personal amable y una gran variedad de bebidas. El menú es variado y ofrece una buena selección en el menú estándar además de ofertas especiales. Las comidas tardaron un poco en llegar, pero nos dijeron que cuando pedimos que este sería el caso. La comida estaba bien presentada y el tamaño de la porción era buena. Nada de particular, pero sin duda nada de lo que quejarme. Las horas de apertura son un poco variable es inteligente antes de visitar.

Los nuevos propietarios han celebrado recientemente su 1º aniversario.

Este es un lugar que sirve no hay comida de relevancia con un agradable y acogedor ambiente, buen servicio y las cervezas locales.

The menu is quite limited but a few different things. However the food is not very good, just about edible if you're hungry.

Four of us had a lovely meal here. The food was delicious and well presented, beer great and the service was excellent. Good to see the pub busy on a Friday night with lots of loyal customers. Happy to recommend.

A great night out at a real pub!Staff and customers friendly and inclusive. A barmaid who knew the difference between mean, median & mode. A landlady who was particularly kind to the elderly incompetent. Two real ales well kept and served with a smile. An extensive choice of excellent home made food promptly served and very reasonably priced. Our pies were delicious, amongst the best pub pies we have ever had. Well worth the trip to this ‘out of the way’ pub. < £70 for 4 of us including drinks for us all.Be sure to check opening times.

Great pub, beer, food - we have eaten here many times but I am not what you would call a regular, not had a bad meal here but unfortunately turned up twice in the past couple of months, once jubliee weekend to find it shut - spoke to a local, thought it was shut due to an emergency and apparently not.To sum up great country pub really traditional but suggest you call before you visit and save yourself a wasted journey

This place is a little gem! The pub is traditional and independantly owned by Mark and Julia - so not a chain, no fancy chef, no fancy decor. The food is delicious and all home-cooked by Julia and there are a good selection of real ales to go with it. We've been coming here for years, ever since the previous owners won a Best of British award for their pub food. Julia has carried on the same tradition of providing delicious, hearty meals using fresh ingredients and we've never gone away still feeling hungry, in fact quite the opposite!The pub is lovely and cosy and the fire is always lit on cold days. Mark is a very friendly, witty landlord and always welcoming, as are the regulars who use the pub. We thoroughly recommend the 'Shoes' to all.
