My wife and I decided to take our Granddaughter to Thorntons. At the front door we were asked if we were going to the shop or cafe area. We said we cafe and they asked us to complete the Covid tracking details. The young lady then said we can go straight through and take a seat. At this stage we were still wearing our face coverings. We were almost seated when a lady approached us and asked us what we were doing. As we were in the cafe area we removed our face covering. She then demanded we walk around the main table to the front. This was very embarrassing as we had to walk in a circle back to the front of the cafe. Although we were in a cafe we were forced to put on our face covering or we will not be seated. This lady was so loud that most of the tables turned to see what was going on. We then decided to leave and go elsewhere. This was no way to treat customers. We did explain that the young lady at the door said we could take a seat but this lady just kept on shouting and demanding that we walk all the way around and go wait and the front entrance. While we always wear face covering and always follow government guidelines it seems like the staff are clueless. Embarrassing us by shouting and treating us like children is totally unacceptable.

Not very helpful staff pointed to table and told me to sit down. I ordered scrambled eggs on white toast and a diet coke. All staff dont seem to know what they were doing! I heard a bell ring several times and eventually got my food which was discusting, soggy wet toast and tasteless scrambled eggs, i asked for brown sauce and it was obvious it was too much trouble. I finished food only because i had taken medication and needed food to take it with it. I sat waiting for ages and my plate was not removed, at this stage i wanted to order a slice of cake. I gathered my belongings and headed to the till and the same rude waitress asked me if everythig had been ok, i told her about toast and scrambled eggs and she replied we're short staffed, no excuse whatsoever, i will never visit again and tell all i know not to go in there

l visited yesterday morning and it was the first time I'd been since the change to self service to waitress. Service was first class, ladies all very attentive and polite. My coffee and eggs on toast were delicious and very reasonably priced..definitely will be visiting again...x 😁😋

Only purchasing personalised easter eggs, but was served by such friendly, attentive staff, I feel the need to share how impressed I was with my visit today. Thank you so much ladies for your help today.

A much poorer experience than my last visit. Excellent service. Very poor quality cakes all dry and stale, despite being little choice. I left half of my piece of cake!No napkin but a lovely pot of tea.

Just had a coffee and rest as exhausted could not move another step and this is a welcome oasis in a busy shopping centre

Let’s start with the food and drink- the Cake was just awful- it was stale, almost hard, very dry and tasteless-real waste of money at £3.50 a slice. The hot chocolate was unfortunately not hot-it wasn’t even warm. So that was a waste of £3. Grand total of £6.50 for a very disappointing food experience. Now for the staff- unfriendly and completely incompetent. To be fair they are in the main younger staff that clearly don’t care about the job (which is understandable) but they need guidance on how to do the basics. For example one waitress walked around for 5 mins with the same drink going from table to table asking if the drink was for them. My stale cake was almost thrown at me by the waiter and the presentation of the stale cake was again just a mess on the plate. Personally wouldn’t recommend here for food or drink

We’ve been in here a number of times for drinks and cakes with each and every time having something to complain about. Today (Sunday 7th April 2019) was no different. Greeted at the front counter by an uninterested member of staff, to be told that there was no food as the chef was on his break??? At lunch. The place was pretty empty apart from a few tables, so the girl sat us down on a table on the right hand side that was immediately next to another couple with quite a bit of shopping. Within 5 minutes (still not served at this point), another couple were then seated on the other side to us, extremely close. Another 5 minutes and we still hadn’t been served. We decided to just order drinks when we were eventually served. Within 2 minutes we had a tray with the bill on it. Another ten minutes passed and we looked around to see if our drinks were close. Eventually drinks came but we then had to wait for milk. We drank up, paid the girl at the front who hardly spoke a word and we left. Service is really bad, for such a great brand they really haven’t got their cafe concept right.

Well,my wife and I popped in for a quick hot choc,and my sickly sweet mess was my own fault for not sticking to lager,so OK my bad.but those pretty little madams,please,OK while I would happily have them sit on my knee the words sexy and I know it spring to mind...prepare to be snubbed and looked down on.

Saturday lunch time. Food lovely, reasonably priced and well presented. Service mostly good friendly and pleasant. I was shown to a table and it was cleaned promptly. Some very helpful pleasant young people working there. However one bowled up as if he was attending a football match. Young and desperately trying to be grown up.Tiny tash and goaty, bragging loudly about managing to arrive on time and rather gung ho. 2 tables next to me were vacated and the ladies that subsequently occupied them had to wipe them down with tissues, whilst the staff stood around?!

Called for lunch, staff friendly but let down by no gluten free option on the menu , no sandwiches not a single cake . Even weatherspoons offer gluten free. Won't go again for that reason

My husband and myself decided to call in today while shopping after hearing good comments about the cafe, we waited to be seated which we were quickly, we was seated and handed menus and 4 small chocolates which was a nice touch, We hadn’t been looking long before a waitress came and asked if we were ready to order in an abrupt manner, luckily we were as we was only having coffee and cake, after sitting a while over came the coffees along with the bill, which I thought was a bit unusual but no cake, we continued to sit and sit and sit before we had drank the coffee but still no cake, I couldn’t be bothered to wait any longer, so my husband went to pay and said to the young girl “ can I pay please but only for the coffees as the cake didn’t come “ she just looked at my husband amended the bill and told him how much it was, NOT EVEN A SORRY, I thought she was really rude, well that was our first and last visit 😡

Long wait for order to be taken after being seated despite there being very few othe customers coffee arrived a large cup of very strong coffee and a VERY small jug of milk it would have been nice to be asked if I wanted my coffee strong or weak more milk etc I shall not return there are plenty of other coffee shops near by

This is the second visit to Thorntons for afternoon tea, the price is excellent value for money compared to other afternoon tea deals, and a bonus that it does not need to be pre booked you can just walk in and order. Both times the service has been great and quick, and we have enjoyed the good quality, fresh food including the bonus of chocolates. We had a choice of sandwiches and cake from the menu, I had the white hot chocolate which tasted like pure melted chocolate which was delicious! I definitely recommend this as a nice treat and will be going back again.

Went here with my 10 year old daughter to find it was packed. As I have a phobia of open spaces I explained that we would wait until some of the side tables would come free, also explained that there would be 3 of us not 2 as my sister was on the way. Numerous people walked out after having to wait so long. Was then called over by a member of staff to a table of 2 and I reminded him that we needed a table for 3, so had to return to the front of the cafe and wait again. We were eventually given a table for 3 and had to wait a ridiculously long time to be served. I felt a bit sorry for the staff as they kept seating people but then forgetting about them, far too understaffed. When my tuna toastie arrived it looked like the filling was provided on rations (see picture) - for the amount they charge it was a let down. Bearing in mind last time we visited we found a hair in my daughters food - only good thing was my daughter enjoyed her milkshake - which came out after the food, then coffees then the bill! sort yourselves out Thorntons!

We were seated quite quickly, only to to then be ignored for 15 minutes, we had to ask someone to come and take our order.

Late afternoon called in. Two lattes and a cremated tea cake...lovely. Staff all very good. Place nice and bright. Will go again.

Five star review for beautiful wedding favours ordered for our wedding in August 2018. This included a great personal ordering experience with the fantastic Donna - plus tastings! We were especially pleased with the presentation of the finished items and taste! All ready on time and to the highest standard. Would very much recommend and a visit to the Cafe.

After a shopping expedition decided tea break was in order. The afternoon tea looked good so took the plunge. Due to lateness of the day not all sandwiches were available. It did not spoil the tea. It was lovely. Couldn’t eat the cake so had a doggy bag. Staff all good nice place. Will go again.

Popped in and had filter coffees, cheaper than Americano's and a toasted tea cake. Service was excellent young man Jim changed the free chocolates to one that we wanted without breaking stride. Professional and attentive staff, thank you

Disappointed to be told there wasn't a single item on the menu that was gluten free. The only thing I could have was a fruit smoothie type drink, only to be told that wasn't available either! Please cater for all of your guests!

I was served by a lovely lady called Donna. I wanted a specific chocolate plaque made for an occasion and she helped me through this process so much even though it wasn’t something that was not usually done as a standard over the counter purchase. She went through everything with me and really listened to what I wanted and catered me so well. She even created her own chocolate mould as I wanted a slightly large chocolate plaque! The decoration was done by a lady called Leah and she was brilliant she did such a good job with the icing on top and even though I didn’t really specifiy a set design she honestly is so creative and made the whole plaque come together. The service was truly amazing from start to finish and everything turned out so nice and was packaged beautifully as well. I am really happy with the Derby Thornton’s store and would recommend it to anyone ! Thank you so much!

Came in the other week with the mrs, for a quick lunch break, the cafe side was just perfect for us as we wanted somewhere just to relax, and this was just perfect spot!

We popped in to Thorntons, our first visit since the new layout was introduced last year. Only intended to have a coffee but the competitively priced menu drew us into having a snack. The quality of food and service was excellent. Friendly staff made for a good experience, so we will be returning shortly. We visited early in the morning, which was just as well because it got quite busy later. Highly recommended.

Visited here today with my husband. Warm welcome. Seated promptly. Attentive, smiling staff. Only had a pot of tea each but it was nicely presented, good value and a really pleasant place to sit. We shall definitely return. They have everything just right. So nice to see good service. Thankyou.

Decided a late coffee break was in order. We like the new layout, very refreshing. Two lattee coffees with fruit scone Jan and cream. Their coffee always needs the extra shot. All staff good will go again.

Visited Thorntons in the intu centre as was looking for chocolate gifts for my daughter's wedding, didn't realise that Thortons made handmade chocolates instore and cater for different needs. Lisa who works in the chocolate craftery helped us make the right choice. We were indecisive and wanted something that tasted delicious and looked good too. Lisa packaged the chocolate beautifully and everyone receiving it has commented on how lovely it is. So thankyou Lisa for all your help and for giving us sample tastings, will definitely visit again.

I enjoyed my visit today. My second visit in the new refit & I wasn’t disappointed. I was in a bit of a rush. I had 30 mins before my parking was up. But i got promptly seated & I really appreciate getting waited on, it was so refreshing, rather than be herded & stood in a long queue like in some coffee shops I could think of. I had a lovely salad & & a pot of tea for my son, the banter from the waiting staff was free.. I will definitely come again.

On Tuesday I met my nana and mum for a dirink and a catch up. We were impressed straight away because we were invited to participate in a taster session, the theme was lemon products....the products were mouth watering especially the lemon tart which I have before but is a firm favourite. I have been going to the Thorntons cafe for years, table service provides a more relaxed atmosphere, pay and go are good for those in a rush....I can see both perspectives and can relate to both.

Went into Thorntons today and lucky for me they were doing a demonstration of their Sicilian chocolate. Lisa and Donna explained how they shop finish chocolates and gave out samples for us to try which was great, they then explained how they do different demos during the week had a fab time and would recommend. The intu centre store is always doing something to enjoy.

Feel disappointed that Thornton's changed this to table service. They should of kept it the way it was before. Now it's too cramped, noisy and slow. My tuna toastie had onion in which never said on the menu. Side salad was tasteless. Will not be rushing back, where as before we used it alot. Thornton's you need to rethink. !

Whilst shopping we fancied a coffee break and what a perfect place it was, Sarah greeted us and showed us to a table, took our order and made sure everything was perfect. She made us feel special and joined in with some banter, the food and tea served quickly and very tasty. We will make this establishment our first choice and recommend it to friends

Me and my little girl have been visiting every Tuesday for past few weeks now and we love love it here the customer service is excellent and nothing is to much trouble they go out of there way for us each week and give us a great experience every time thank you to each and everyone of you for great service see you next week

Came for a sandwich and a drink, my daughter waiting nearly 20 mins for an ice cream, sandwich arrived and then followed the drinks which I had to collect myself from the servery as the staff just stood talking and didn’t seem to know how to organise themselves.

We always meet here for drinks when visiting Derby for the day. The store has recently undergone a complete refit introducing table service as part of the concept. The new look is great with various types of seating from sofa and low rise chairs to regular tables and a breakfast bar style seating area for larger groups of people. The table service works well because the place always appears well staffed. The menu is very good aswell. You can just have a drink or if you want lunch their sandwiches are excellent and very reasonably priced. A great selection of cakes and other sweets are available. We usually just have a drink but today had lunch. The staff are always professional and friendly.

We totally agree with the previous review - Completely ruined!

This used to be a daily visit for me and my family and friends but the experience has been ruined in my opinion. You used to be able to walk right into the cafe grab a seat and a snack, now you have to queue up at the holding gate and wait until someone comes out to offer you a seat-if there are any, it's completely different and I found it quite intimidating. It's lost all of its charm and comfortable seats. We would no longer visit or shop here anymore. Such a shame, it needed a revamp yes, but not too this level. Thornton's I think you got it wrong.

Ordered a toasty, pannini & fried eggs on toast. Got the toasty & pannini but no eggs on toast. Waited for 5 minutes for it to come out but no joy. Asked a waitress where it was. She went to look & came back to say that the chef had burnt the first eggs & was doing some more. Fine. Or so we thought. Waited another 15 minutes but still nothing. Waitress went back to see what was happening. She came back to say chef was just doing it but still waited another 10 minutes. How on earth can fried eggs on toast take so long. I could have made it quicker myself. Very poor. Would like to say that Sarah the waitress did her best for us. Unfortunately we won't be in a hurry to go back even tho our food was lovely.

Excellent Service and welcoming staff with Extras you might not expect supervised by an excellent manger nothing is too much trouble and the service is second to none best in Intu by a country mile

Stood at the “wait to be seated “ sign for ages. Several staff walked past us and ignored us- didn’t even say be with you in a minute. Once seated service improved. Ordered two shakes and cake - all was very nice as was the complimentary chocolate.

Visited today (29 January). We were seated immediately but nobody came to take our order. We got up left after frustrating 5 minutes. This the second time that this has happened. The makeover is let down by very poor service.

I think the new thornton s cafe is fab. Ok at busy times you have to wait but you do in most places of its busy. Top marks for the coffee pot idea you can get 2/3 cups from a lot which is brilliant value. The menu is loads better too. A little tweaking here and there such as giving you the bill when you order or when they bring your order to you would help. Overall a great place to eat and drink.

I regularly visited this café before it's makeover, service at the counter was always slow but the free chocolate made up for it. Although what they have done to the interior is very nice service is even slower. We have to wait to be seated then wait for a waitress to take our order. Then wait ages for it to come. The last time we visited there was only one member of staff preparing all the drinks and all the food consequently the waitresses were having to wait by the counter. Then we had to wait again for the bill to be presented and wait yet again for our change. Just not worth it for a free chocolate. In addition the prices have risen dramatically. It is now cheaper to buy a box of chocolates and go to Costa for a coffee where the service is fast and efficient.

I can't understand why this place has received so many negative reviews! We visited on the Saturday in between Christmas and New Year, so they were quite busy, and yet we received great service from all of the staff, and had a very positive experience.

I love the new Cafe! Walk through the shop area tempted by all that chocolate .We were greeted and seated promptly and our order taken after we had looked through the menu. I was impressed with the no waiting in line while the staff worked through customers orders at the coffee station, as we had to do at the previous style cafe. You now can sit and chat until your order is brought over to you.

We used to make a shopping visit special by having a hot chocolate at Thorntons. Not now, called today and it's all changed. Not as much room in the cafe area. We found a seat eventually then were told we had to wait to be seated at the entrance. No menus until your allocated a seat.

Went late night shopping on Thursday at the into centre in Derby. Promised my teenage daughter I take her to the Thornton's cafe. The place was not overly busy, but there was a sign asking customers to wait to be seated. As we waited, the staff carried on chatting to each other, and stocking shelves as if we weren't there. After being ignored for a good 5-10 minutes we expressed our disgust at their lack of customer service and walked out. Don't waste your time going here unless you like to be ignored whilst the staff chat away to their hearts content !

We visited today for the first time since the refurb and was bitterly disappointed. It took quite a while for us to be seated even though there were quite a few staff milling around not doing much. We then ordered a cheese scone which was for some reason sweet and contained so much bicarb it made your tongue fizz, a salmon sandwich which was soggy and tasteless, pancakes that were clearly packet mix or store bought that, if they were ever warm, were not served to me as such. The cake was dry and very different from what we had come to expect from our previous visits. Overall it was money and calories wasted.

Visited Thornton’s Newly refurbished cafe for lunch and was really impressed. Usual excellent coffee and cake but now with great new menu and table service. Staff were really friendly and went out of their way to help with an added Birthday touch!

We love going into Thorntons or did before they changed it to table service. Went in today for breakfast we were seated quickly and told someone would come and take our order shortly. Well we waited and waited, then noticed that people how came in after us were being served. Was not impressed so voted with our feet and walked out. Come on Thorntons get your act together your new cafe/shop is lovely and your food is great but your service is rubbish. It will be a long time before we go back again.

I have visited the new look thorntons twice in a week; once on a Christmas shopping trip and once with a friend and our babies. Both times the food has been incredible and the staff have been beyond accommodating. Today's trip in particular they found us a table with enough room to park two buggies as well as moving chairs to accommodate high chairs.

Love you get a free chocolate with your drink and my husband and I always have the apple shortcake and ask for cream on cake instead of coffee and they always do this for us

Popped in for a coffee and cake to see the new refurb. Very nicely done out inside and free taster chocolates when you sit down is a lovely touch but don’t offer table service if you can’t provide it. We sat for ages wondering whether we should order at the counter. 2 young girls with no idea what they were doing were walking around staring blankly at empty tables with no sign of anyone in charge. We had to ask to place our order. I always tip table service but I even waited for my change on this occasion. Coffee and cake were bland. With so much choice in derby for coffee and cakes we’ll be going elsewhere. Such a shame.

We had seen a pop up on FB and thought the grandchildren would enjoy the treat, as they have been to a couple of Thorntons cafes before at Doncaster and Castleford, after a trip over an hour to reach derby, then waiting to get into the car park, Xmas shopping crowds, parked, then walked around INTU to find it, we were pleasantly surprised, a light and inviting chocolate shop, the shop was busy, remembering this is not just a cafe, it a chocolate shop as well, they are even making chocolates here, this is different to other cafe THORNTONS, as you have to wait to be seated, all the tables were full and we were advised that there would a 10 minute wait, no probs, eventually we were seated, and given menus, easy to please the kids, smoothie and banana shake, for me the flat white, had to have another the first was so good, the wife a pot of tea, food ordered came in about 15 minutes but ticked all the box’s, they do a small selection of hot food, salads and sandwiches, plus the normal great selection of sweet food, Ime and the wife had bacon rolls, what a treat the bacon was, it actually tasted as bacon should, and apparently from a local butcher, the kids had an egg mayo sandwich and egg on toast with bacon, dippy eggs how to keep him happy.

Lovely new refurbished cafe, however we ordered the avocado salad which was tastless but looked ok and an egg on toast. The eggs were so tiny, it was a joke, the toast was actually bread, not toasted even in the slightest. It was also covered in chives. Honestly, who cannot make an egg on toast. We complained and the waitress refunded the money, its not expensive but the food is awful

We visited the newly re fitted Thornton's this week and we where totally disappointed the food was terrible and the seating is far to Cramped and on top of each other I had a bacon sandwich that was totally inedable and my partner had the Christmas toastie supposedly 3 cheeses and cranberry sauce which was not present

Visited the refurbished Thornton’s Cafe this week. Could they have squeezed in any more seats? I doubt it. I felt very uncomfortable sitting with my back to the room and almost sharing cutlery with my unknown neighbours. I did not feel that I could have a conversation without being overheard. Great choice on the menu and the usual freebies with your drinks. But I for one need a little more space to relax

Was so disappointed by seating arrangements, was impossible to have a private conversation as people were very close either side of where we were seated. Service was very slow, trouble getting a second drink and food as waitress was struggling looking for whoever’s order she was trying to serve to a customer. Asked person who was clearing tables who shrugged his shoulders and gave us a blank look and went on his way. Had to queue to pay bill so a queue to be seated long wait for drink not able to order food and second drink then queue to pay. Assistant didn’t seem to be able to work till very well. We went elsewhere for a drink and some food with friendly service.

With a friend l visited on Saturday, l have been visiting since it opened My friend and l were in a long queue to wait to be seated, then we had to wait for a server to take order, coffee still as good as ever, but we were squeezed in to two seats with approx one foot between table to squeeze through.after coffee you ask for bill to be brought, then troll after server to queue at till to pay, what a farce, who wants to queue to be seated for coffee, when could go to any cafe choose table , pay and enjoy, also no thought given to disabled or elderly, large trestle like table and window bar with high stools, not suitable for either, l just want a table for two where l can have a drink and chat without sharing my conversations with strangers at my elbow, if it ain't broke don't fix it ,comes to mind, l hope they return to the system they had, or sadly along with many others l spoke to, l won't be returning, shame after many happy years, nice decor, shame about the rest.

My wife took her mum (Angie & Joan) to this Thorntons cafe today ( Friday 03 /11 //2017) for there usual coffee and to there amazement the refurbishment was finished to a very high standard and was greeted by the manager who was so lovely and took them to a comfortable seat where after a short time a member of staff brought them there new menu which was amazing. They chose the afternoon tea and it was served beautifully and found it to be great value for money. And would like to say a special thanks to the polite and welcoming manager and his staff and look forward to our next visit

I must say they must have spent a fortune on glamming this place up but they've not really thought about the essentials. Here I next to the one and only till in the store with the queues building by the second, at a table that rocks like a rocking horse. It's opening day and crazily busy but the staff are super attentive and bending over backwards to please, I have to say. I was even offered an extra chocolate due to the wait. My order was taken about 15 minutes ago and has just arrived. The ladies next to me were at a table without a sugar selection, so they 'borrowed' mine. As lattes go, it's fine and my cinnamon and raisin swirl is pretty standard. As I look around, I'm not surprised it's table service as if people were sat around the central island there'd be no way to get though. So, goodness help anyone trying to get to the loos on a really busy day!!!

The hot choc is so nice and the staff friendly can get a bit messy at busy times and they could do with extra people cleaning the tables

Lovely place love looking around but find it expensive. Staff are helpful and the place is very clean,even with the 3 for 2 I still find it expensive.

For me the coffee here is arguably the best in town. It comes accompanied by a free Thornton chocolate adding to the pleasure! Service is not the quickest sometimes but if you are not in any hurry the wait is worthwhile.

I visited this cafe earlier today with a close family member whist on a day out to Derby.We arrived at a very busy cafe to find it was quite full with customers.I ordered a chunky vegetable soup with a lovely fresh roll and a mature cheddar and onion toasted sandwich with leek and cheese crisps, and for afters an alpini cake and cinnamon danish with drinks consisting if two regular hot chocolates, one Honeycomb flavoured and topped with cream.I was most impressed with the customer service, very pleasant and helpful and to find the order had reached my table just as I sat down! Quick service! The food was very tasty and very hot in temperature which was good.The desserts were yummy and well made.It was a nice to received alpini truffles with our order which was a nice gesture.The hot chocolates were nice but abit on the sweet side.I would definitely return and recommend to others.

This is the first Thorntons coffee shop that we have ever seen and what a gem it is. The shop is large serving wonderful cakes along with their usual range of chocolates and ice creams and when you get a coffee they give you a complementary chocolate. There is an unusual amount of comfotable seating in the form of chairs and settees. The staff are very helpful.

This shop is good for a snack,cold or hot drink. Also not expensive. This shop is in a shopping center that was named Westfield, now the center changed it's name to INTU shopping Center. The shop is nice well designed and cosy, most important that it has good food with a reasonable price. The staff is also nice and friendly.

very nice place to go for a snack or lunch we had a ham and cheese toastie with cofee that was well worth it .it wasnt expensive ethia the staff was nice and freindly would definatley go there again.

Lots of very comfy, clean seats. With daily deals of reduced cakes & drinks. I had a strawberry & banana smoothie with a strawberry tart all for £4!! Tart from £2.45 to £1!! Excellent way to start my Christmas shopping! X

I don't know what has happened recently but the coffee is awful lots of bits in and mega strong and at nearly £3 I would rather go to McDonald's it's much nicer!

Without doubt Thorntons is a top brand so we were disappointed by being served with two luxury hot chocolates with cream and they were actually cold. There are nice touches with chocolates on the side of each cup and service is ok (a bit slow at the counter as there is only room for one order at a time) but they do need to do something about the heat of the drinks.

Pleasant atmosphere,good coffee and tea but limited menu and rather expensive. Sited inside the retail outlet where they mainly serve chocolates and sweets.

We Called in here for a shopping break ! Had two lovely coffees' and some very tasty paninis' Quite good value too

We always stop for a drink at Thornton's cafe when shopping in Derby. Lovely cafe and delicious cakes. I think it can be a little pricey for certain drinks but it is Thornton's after all.

I really love coming here. The drinks aren't too badly priced and it is always busy. The hot chocolates are so lovely and tasty! I would highly recommend Thorntons in the derby shopping centre most definitely!

Called in for coffee and cake on Thursday at 4.30pm, got the feeling they were about to close, but no someone else came in, asking are you still open, the reply "we close at 8pm.

Ham, cheese and tomato toastie with a mug of insipid coffee was only saved by the Thorntons chocolate and the chocolate flakes on the coffee. Comfortable seating area which was clean and tidy and the chance to browse the shop for chocolates afterwards.

The coffee tasted burnt and it's always so cold in there. I'll go to Costa round the corner from now on.

The coffee wasn't bad but it took two goes to get the right size! We each had a pastry (one maple/pecan, one apple) - these were pretty poor. The complimentary chocs were good, but they should be at Thorntons!

Lovely cafe. Coffee and food excellent and the pecan tarts are to die for! Love that you get a free chocolate with a drink also like the meal deals. Good value. Friendly staff.

Utterly delicious assortment of hot chocolates and snacks especially cakes! My favourite is Black Cherry Hot choc and I love the free Thorntons choc you get with a hot drink, yummy!

Brilliant service in the store. The store was spotless, brilliant X factor display and all staff pleasant.

Called for cappuccino n hot chocolate n slice of chocolate cake each,,,hot chocolate looked and tasted like a latte with that many marshmallows I couldn't even drink it,,young chap made cappuccino n had to throw it away so I had to wait for another to be made whilst my hot chocolate was going cold,then the cake 2 pieces thrown onto one plate tasted like burnt chocolate and we both left it!! Won't be going again!!

Staff (a young man) couldn't be asked to get a spoon and serve the chocolate fountain properly. A true disappointment. Possibly just poorly trained.

Good coffee great cakes and you get a thortons continental chocolate with every drink purchased. This is a nice place to meet, it's a little small and can get very busy at certain times. Freebies are also brought around for customers to try

My first visit to coffee shop side of Thornton. Excellent visit and staff friendly. Prices cheaper or same in other shops

Just visited the cafe whilst shopping with my husband as we were passing. We usually go to Starbucks or Costa. I had to queue for 20minutes to get served, there wasn't a massive amount of people in the queue but all the staff behind the bar serve one person at a time. One takes order, one makes drink, one gets the cake which should make it quicker but it doesn't. I was also told that they had run out of the individual chocolates that they give with each drink, not a major problem as it's just an added extra but then a couple came and satdown next to us with chocolates.

Lovely break in our shopping trip. Price was competitive with other coffee chains but the quality was much better. A lovely Thorntons chocolate included with our drinks. Proper chocolate not dust sprinkled on my mocha was a real treat. We also had two managers special toffee tarts which were only £1 each. They were filled with rich toffee what a treat. All very good value and a cut above the rest.

Plenty of staff only problem is they all serve one person. One takes the order, another makes the drink, another gets the cakes, you get the idea. Meanwhile the queue is growing longer and longer so expect a long wait to be served. The coffee machine is very noisy, so not a very relaxing atmosphere. On the plus side you can get a nice cheese scone which not many establishments in Derby offer.

Only come here if you don't mind sharing your table with everyone else's used cups and plate because clean and tidy tables you will NOT find here. Staff look as miserable as sin and the coffee does not have that rich full taste that you want from your brew. There are plenty other places to enjoy a coffee nearby, just walk on past this one.

We ordered two coffees which come with a Thornton's chocolate. The chocolate was delicious but even though we persevered to try and drink the coffee we failed and we both ended up leaving over half a mug. It was tasteless and thin. We have had nice pots of tea before but when we fancy a coffee we shall be heading to Costa instead (there are three Costa's in/around Westfield :-)

This was a really unsatisfactory experience, shame that NONE of the staff could manage a smile, and a woman clearing the tables virtually insulted my wife when asked would she mind clearing the table we were going to use she replied " when I've got time " and walked away.

This is by far the best coffee shop in Derby. I need my coffee fix every day and having tried the rest I always return to Thornton's it's by far the best coffee served in Derby and a free chocolate with every cup!

Typical Thornton's, Gorgeous Chocolate, off the planet prices, what more is there to say???

This is the perfect place to take a well earned rest if you have been shopping in the Derby Westfield Centre and love chocolate.

We called in here for a mid morning drink with friends. My girlfriend surprised me and bought me a hot vanilla white chocolate drink with cream and marshmallows. I didn't realise this was on the menu so only chose a tea as everything was very expensive (my only criticism). It was honestly the best drink I have ever tasted as I'm a real fan of white chocolate! I must advise people to try it, so tasty!

This was my first visit to a Cafe Thorntons and I wasn't disappointed. We called in for a drink mid-afternoon but decided to have a sandwich also. The range was quite good for 4pm and the service was friendly and very quick, considering we had ordered a couple of toasties and a panini. I have been in cafes before where toasties and paninis have taken at least 10minutes to arrive, so it was pleasant to have all 3 arrive within 5 minutes....
