Wow, I never imagined I’d write a second review about a place, but I felt compelled to share my experience at The Stand Off. I previously visited to watch an F1 race and had a fantastic time, thanks to the attentive staff who took great care of my son and me. True to my word, I returned for another F1 race, and once again, the staff were exceptional and made us feel very welcome. This time, we decided to try the roast dinner, and honestly, I wasn’t expecting anything extraordinary. However, I was pleasantly surprised! I usually dislike cauliflower cheese and parsnips, but I couldn’t resist trying the cauliflower cheese, which had delicious fried parsnip strips sprinkled on top, it was fantastic! The roast dinner was among the best I’ve ever had, so hats off to the chef—bravo! I will definitely be coming back for more. Highly recommend The Stand-Off!

Awful service from a cold and unfriendly member of bar staff - did not look like he wanted us to be there at all. Drinks were very pricey as well. Wont return in a hurry.

My wife, 11-year-old son, and I wanted to watch the Formula 1 race at a sports bar. We were a bit hesitant about bringing our son to a pub for the first time due to his age. I called ahead to confirm it was suitable, and the bar staff were friendly and accommodating over the phone. Upon arrival, we were impressed by the bar staff and how well they interacted with our son. As a family, we had a fantastic Sunday watching the F1 race. Had a great experience here, booked a table for the FA cup final and had great seats. Lots of screens and it was great that at one side they had the football and the other side they had the rugby which catered for all. Good selection of drinks and friendly staff. It does get quite busy and loud but what do you expect - it’s a sports bar! Only slight negative was that they couldn’t accept any card payments on the day we visited due to a service error so had to get cash out. Would return in the future! Thank you.

A nice pint o& Guinness and pleasant surroundings. However, the barman needs to tone down his phone voice a tad! Two or three phone calls at the top of his voice, quite off putting.

Jaz and her team were amazing. Despite some confusion with our table booking they managed to sort us a table on the busiest night and did with calmness and ease. Natalie kept drinks coming even with a busy bar. So good. Great for a rugby game.

A group of us came to the Stand off to watch the football. The staff could not have been more welcoming and friendly, nothing was too much trouble, and the landlord (?) went out of his way to ensure we had the best view of the screen and attended to our table all night. The food was great and reasonably priced. I couldn’t recommend this pub more highly.

We went to a rugby match and was recommended this venue for some pre match food and drinks. I was concerned to see just one young lady waiting all the tables in this busy pub. I expected a long wait for service especially as our table was as far away from the bar as you could possibly get. How wrong could I be !!! We were led to our table and the drinks order taken. Within moments our drinks were with us. Every time our drinks were getting low we were asked if we needed a refill and a fresh drink arrived, just in time as we emptied our glass. One of our party loves Guinness and insisted it was the best pint he’d had outside Ireland. The food was decent pub food served with the same exceptional service. This was a masterclass in how standards and service should be. Friendly attentive staff with great food and beer.

We have been to the Stand Off many times. There is always lots of atmosphere and the staff are friendly and welcoming. We have tried the food at various times and different days of the week. It is always very good. The Sunday lunch is to die for but remember to book as it is very popular

I attended as part of a social and it was so great. They looked after us and kept us separate from locals which was great for us as well as us. Mid week on an evening!

Recommended for everything. From the food, the service and the range of drinks and sports available. All the team were great over several days but Noah and Hero made us feel as if we were locals. A definite must for any rugby fan visiting the city, but they are not a one trick pony - probably best sports bar we have visited on our weekends away. We will be back.

Visited after a game at Exeter chiefs. The food was very poor with the chilli being inedible. The service was poor. After the food was delivered we didn’t see the staff again. Meant to be an Irish rugby bar. Didn’t see much evidence if that. Will not be back

Sunday roast was absolutely brilliant, beef was so tenter and cooked to perfection! The parsnips were to die for and the cauliflower cheese was amazing! Service was brilliant especially as they were very busy with all tables booked out, all the ladies that served us did so with a smile on their faces and polite! We will be back very soon indeed!

We went to the Stand Off on Friday, were made welcome frim walking in the door, great staff, good atmosphere, returned this afternoon, to find yet another great welcome, roast dinner and great staff, place to visit

Every part of visit excellent. They squeezed us in for Sunday lunch just before the chef left for the day and the food was excellent. We had plenty of beef and chicken, lovely potatoes and Yorkshire’s, veg plenty and extra pot of gravy. Staff attentive and friendly. Will definitely return! Thank you!

We spent 2 hours driving around trying to find somewhere to eat, ended up here as a last resort but it was absolutely amazing. One of the best roasts I have ever had out. Unbeatable value for money. Will be returning regularly!!

This is without a doubt the best roast I have ever had. The beef was cooked to perfection and the Yorkshire pudding was a beast! Amazing chef and lovely staff.

Both boys loved their food - good, quick service and very tasty! A good quality hot dog from the butcher's across the road, delicious pizza and lovely, gooey mac n' cheese. Oh, and a pint of Guinness. What more could you want?

Brilliant family friendly pub which we visit several times a month. The new menu is fantastic, highly recommend the Baked Camembert and Mac & Cheese. Sunday Roast is a worthy contender for best in Exeter. No question--The best Guinness in the South West.

This is the place to watch Rugby and any sport to be fair, brilliant atmosphere with very friendly staff. Very reasonable priced food and all sourced locally. They regularly have live bands playing to enjoy over a nice cold Guinness.

We’ve been here a few times now and cannot rate it highly enough. Really welcoming, the staff are excellent, great food and a good selection of wine and beer. Whether you like sport or not or just a good night out then this is the place to go.

As 3 out of the 4 of us are keen Exeter Chiefs fans, we thought no trip to Exeter would be complete without paying a visit to The Stand Off!We received a really warm welcome (Beth I think), lovely cold beers too.One of our party was delayed, so we had to delay lunch, but the staff took this in their stride.The food was really good (I had a crispy chicken burger and it was amazing), served nicely by Kieran. Very caring staff, who couldn't do enough for us.It might have been our first visit but I'm certain it won't be our last! Thank you. X

We spent most of the day there, table booked early so we could eat, few drinks. We were waited on all day, brought food and drinks to our table. Service was spot on, staff were really friendly, and the food and beer were tasty and reasonably priced.

Although I've been to The Stand Off several times before, this was my first try of the Sunday lunch offering. The bonus on this day was that lunch coincided with the England v Wales warm up match for the RWC. Our table was booked for lunch, and for time to sit and watch the match as well (so no being asked to vacate the table to turn it over). We had the traditional beef Sunday lunch and it was very tasty. Lovely beef, great roast potatoes and a good selection of veg to accompany the same. Yorkshire puddings were huge, and (without asking) an extra jug of gravy was served as well, which for this gravy lover was a fab touch. At £62 for the three of us, including our drinks, this was great value too, and of course we were surrounded by screens on which to enjoy England thoroughly beating Wales. Come on England!!! Definitely will come for Sunday lunch again, with or without rugby as a side dish!

Love the staff, love the friendly vibe. Was in for lunch had a couple jackets and pints. Food is very good, lots of drink options and all the rugby memorabilia is really cool. Definitely the spot to watch the Chiefs if you are not at the game, or any sport for that matter.
