Used to be one of the best pubs in Sheffield which somehow the new owners have managed to ruin through a carefully planned combination of butchering the layout, a tacky sounding quiz and an American Diner style menu (although can’t comment on the actual food as we didn’t eat there).

Ate an anniversary dinner here and it was fantastic - the new menu is excellent, and the food was unpretentious and perfectly executed. Particular highlight was the warm banana bread dessert with rum caramel and coconut sorbet - delicious! Great service as well and a lively and bustling atmosphere - highly recommend.

Decent pub grub menu. Decent range of beers. Selection of reasonably-priced cocktails on an additional offer. Background music (interesting stuff too!) at a reasonable level I could spend a whole day in here There's the list. I shall add that the Currywurst was my food selection (which had lovely chips included). It was very tasty indeed. I would have had the banana bread dessert, if it were anything but coconut sorbet that accompanied it. However as it stands, I have 2 halves of even more of their ales in front of me and the temptation of an old fashioned in my mind and on their menu. Polite staff too.

This place changes lives. The beer selection is something created by the old god and the new. The food seems to be curated by angels. The interior is quaint but with a modern twist and the music was the greatest selection I've heard inside. The staff are all beautiful and caring, they made my visit here undeniably the best experience I've had since 1988!

Came here for Sunday lunch today with my pooch. It was quite quiet on arrival, but soon became very busy. Met at the bar by a friendly staff member who showed me to a free table, handed me the menu and took my drinks order. Great range of both cask and keg beers, I chose the Cryo craft beer, which was delicious. Waiting staff were attentive and friendly not just to me but to other diners around me too. The bar/restaurant had a great atmosphere and the great teamwork of staff was evident. I gave my order of Calamari followed by the Roast pork dinner and I also ordered a side of Cauliflower cheese. The starter arrived promptly with a sweet balsamic glazed salad and a flavoured mayonnaise. I decent portion of delicately coated and fried calamari was a great start. Not long after followed a huge portion of Roast pork, crackling, Yorkshire pudding stuffing, roast potatoes, parsnips, carrots, braised leeks and delightfully spiced red cabbage. Needless to say, I didn't really need the delicious side of Cauliflower cheese, but It would have been rude not to eat it! The generous portion of pork was too much for even me, so a certain pooch gleefully chomped on a deliciously tender slice, in addition to some Yorkshire pud! All in all a lovely experience and will definitely be back soon!

I love this pub, lucky to have it as a local. Always going to give it 5 stars as nowhere in the vicinity comes close to the ambience here. However I was a bit disappointed by the beer and food on last visit. Less impressive range of local beers and my dinner was a small portion of burger and fries. I don't have a big appetite and I was hungry when I got home. It was like a small childs portion of fries.

Had to ask the staff to take our order after waiting over the average waiting time, with two small children I don’t find this ideal. The calamari was overly cooked! Cheap horrible salad. The Sunday roast arrived at a temperature that wasnt right it was on par of been cold. The Yorkshire puddings were burnt! Bill came to 91.00 and the server asked if we wanted our change 🤣 urgh yes! Will never come here for a Sunday roast ever again! So glad I didn’t go for the three meat as the the chicken was horrible (the children had a chicken dinner) we had to ask for condiments I just can’t believe he asked if we wanted our change 🤣

The family went for Xmas day lunch at the York .A party of 11 of us at £80 per head. The food was well below average ,indeed the beef was inedible .we did discreetly complain that the beef was undercooked and had large chunks of unrendered fat running through it.The manager on duty was rude and verging on aggresive and refused to acknowledge any problems with the food. Please see the pictures of the beef we were served. We had a response from management who gave us a cookery lesson on how they cook their beef and an apology regarding the attitude of the duty manager ,apparently he had a migraine the day before so wasn’t feeling one hundred per cent We were offered free drinks as recompense for the food being inedible. But on reflection we should have insisted on our money back but who wants to be aurguing on Xmas day 😢

Ate Sunday lunch here a couple of weeks ago. Kitchen staff (except for the guy wearing a blue hir net) looked scruffy Food arrived Luke warm, veg so burnt 1 on our table thought they had a bone in their mince pie, the “bone” was actually cremated parsnip. Two lunches had dirty long grey hair in clearly from a kitchen guy who had long wifey grey hair protected by an unhygienic beanie hat. Waiting staff were lovely & appologetic. Never again

Large group of us arrived for Sunday lunch. Ordered roasts, food arrived luke warm with totally burnt vegetables, I mean cremated and inedible. The stuffing was in 'tablet' form, flat as an after eight mint but smaller! Mash potato was utterly tasteless, SMASH would have been better. Limited to 2 very small roasties which were overdone but edible. Not wanting to cause a fuss we ploughed on until 2 of us found a very long, wiry, grey hair in our food. This belonged to one of the kitchen staff who had 'said' hair and nothing but a beanie hat on, no hygiene protection at all. Lots of staff in the kitchen looked like they needed to take a shower, most looked like they'd fell out of bed on a Sunday morning and gone straight to work! Our waiting person was very nice and apologetic, they looked really embarrassed but this wasn't their fault. We didn't pay for the 2 'hairy' meals. Sorry to write such a damming review but you really need to up your game in respect of hygiene, staff uniforms, food quality and kitchen staff personal hygiene.

Terrible meal here yesterday evening. We bought a visitor from overseas here to enjoy a traditional pub experience and couldn't be more disappointed. The staff were friendly but disinterested. The food was awful, burnt fish and chips! Burnt onion rings! Cold peas! Then the pub quiz which was advertised online as starting at 9 began just after 8, so we attempted to eat our unpleasant meal to the sound of the booming PA. I asked the barman if I could leave some feedback as we paid our £90 bill and he suggested I'd be better scanning the qr code on the receipt, completely disinterested in our experience. We used to enjoy The York for the good food and the friendly efficient staff. Really sad to see what it has apparently become. *Edit After 2 months I'm very surprised to find that the establishment hasn't at least acknowledged this review. Sums up what The York seems to have become...

Dropped in for a bit of Sunday lunch. Was steadily busy but seemed to have lots of seats free. Ordered from a set menu 2 courses for £20, or 3 for £25. Friend is a gluten free vegetarian and they were able to accommodate with their menu. Food was tasty, beef was nice but was covering the veg below, like the tats, leeks and broccoli. The food comes with gravy already poured over it, this also meant the waiter had his thumb in my gravy when it was delivered. Not the waiters fault, but it should be served in a jug as standard. Toddler had a mini roast, the beef there tasted garlicky which ours didnt. i was jealous! Make sure to download the True North app for discounts. The kitchen did offer us a free brownie, i think as they had overstock, which was lovely and a nice gesture and capped off a lovely afternoon. Staff were friendly and interacted with our toddler nicely. Only marked down as the plating/gravy could have been better. Perhaps offering to put in a jug as a standard.

I used to love this place; always a guaranteed lovely meal and atmosphere . Sadly I’ve been twice in the last 6 weeks and won’t go again. First trip (sept) I had supreme chicken which would have been nice if it didn’t have a ridiculous amount of salt in it. Last night we went and I had an autumn salad (with halloumi) . It was really disappointing - basically not what was described on the board - a pitiful attempt at a salad which was completely tasteless and uninteresting. I had to ask for some dressing to make it edible. The additional halloumi looked like shop bought , ready coated pieces of cheese which were really greasy. No atmosphere , it was really quiet , and I’ll be surprised if it stays open given the quality of the food. I paid £18 for that salad and won’t be going again .

Went to a family Birthday party at the function room here. The room was great and the staff and atmosphere was fantastic. Food was a buffet style with sweet bags and desserts which was very tasty and fesh and not just a frozen party set reheated. The bar and rest of the venue was really nice and service was not an issue. I have had meals here on many occasions and they are always great and good price. Would recommend anyone to visit.

Went with our friends from Eindhoven (NL) to have pizza and drinks. However at the 11th hour the New York’shire Pizza Co couldn’t go so we they’d been fortunate to put on their own kitchen with staff coming in. We had excellent food burgers, fries, gyros and everybody loved the food and variety of ales and gins(!). We also did the quiz that followed in the evening. A great night. Thx
