Went to a family Birthday party at the function room here. The room was great and the staff and atmosphere was fantastic. Food was a buffet style with sweet bags and desserts which was very tasty and fesh and not just a frozen party set reheated. The bar and rest of the venue was really nice and service was not an issue. I have had meals here on many occasions and they are always great and good price. Would recommend anyone to visit.

Wednesday night is Pie Night, 2 pie's chips and gravy for £20. Can't beat it, great pie's good choice of drinks

Not really impressed by this pub

The Shoulder accomodated ten of us at short notice after where we had booked , cancelled at short notice a party for my husband's 80th birthday party. Despite not having ordered beforehand we didn't wait too long, service was prompt and with a smile. Busy afternoon for them as there was a 90th birthday party as well. Food was good apart from the bullet peas. A good time was had by us all.

Great food at excellent price. Very pleasant and helpful staff. Dog friendly and child friendly too. Very generous portions for kids. Have been back again and again. Would thoroughly recommend 😁

Nearly here weekly, lovely out door area when the weather permits.

Went for the Friday Fish deal. It did not disappoint the fish was delicious and nice chunky chips too. Rest of my family did not fancy the fish so chose from the varied menu, everyone happy.

Lovely pub with polite, friendly staff but the food is mediocre. I had a very tough gammon steak, my partner’s chicken and bacon pie had a strange texture and was bland. My mother in law’s haddock fishcakes were ok but nothing more. All three dishes came with chips which we suspected were left over from a previous service and reheated rather than freshly cooked. The pub has a very extensive menu with a wide choice of cuisines from curry to fajitas which is always worrying in terms of being able to use fresh ingredients without recourse to pre-made dishes which are then reheated to order. I’d recommend that they reduce the range of food available and focus on a smaller number of dishes, using freshly cooking higher quality ingredients.

Disappointing food. It used to be a great place to eat but it's gone downhill I'm afraid.

I do visit the ‘Shoulder of Mutton’ regularly , more so on a Sunday since they have stopped serving jacket potatoes in the week. Lauren knew it was my birthday . I was very disappointed that the ‘nut roast’ wasn’t available even though it was still on the menu. I Plummed for the chicken. I did ask Lauren if she had told the kitchen I was disappointed . No., was the reply. Out of courtesy it would have been nicd to have been offered a free drink or sweet.

Absolutely delicious roast, served by lovely staff, this place is definitely worth a visit.

We love The Shoulder of Mutton. Lovely cosy pub, friendly and helpful staff, fantastic food (including a full gluten free menu) and great selection of drinks. We always feel welcome and relaxed here, its a proper part of the community.

Very pleasant lunchtime visit. Food was standard pub fayre, but very nice. I had Scampi with chips.....and really enjoyed them. My partner had Fish & chips and neither of us could find any fault at all. Reasonable pricing & everything was very clean & welcoming. Staff were friendly & helpful. Garden area looked good too, but as it was raining, we came inside. Can highly recommend 👌

Highly recommend for the Sunday Roast! Well priced and large servings! They also include little extras like stuffing and a pig in blanket which is nice.

Food was great, there for a mothers day roast. All really enjoyed it. Was busy but staff still all attentive, food took a bit but understandable. Little extra at the end was really cute and appreciated. Good selection of bev too!

First time in years since I’ve been here, did not disappoint. The food was superb. Proper chips, best I’ve had in a long time. The burger was unreal, full of flavour, couldn’t fault it. Will be back soon for sure.

Went here for 60th birthday meal altho we had booked this beforehand when we arrived our tables were not ready to sit straight at. When they were put together it left 4 people sitting alone even tho it could have been arranged to all sir and be able to chat Staff just said sorry ee haven't arranged them yet. Food was amazing but like I say seating was awful

Went there last Christmas Eve and this Christmas Eve 2023. Atmosphere good, waiter - attentive but the food could be better. We order the set Christmas menu and the parsnip was rock hard on the vegetarian option. The Yorkshire pudding seemed pre done and the veg all came out a while after the mains had been served. Service felt rushed. It is a lovely village pub but could be better!

Huge and delicious plate full of Christmas dinner, preceded by a lovely starter. Definitely recommend.

First time visit, couldn't fault it. The food was very good, the choice of beers also very good. Definitely visit again.

I've known and used this pub for over 55 years and it's been through quite a few changes in this time but one thing you can be sure of is a warm welcome by happy helpful staff good drinks and food a real old village atmosphere and real open fires to keep you warm at this time of year. Christmas or summer you'll leave here smiling and wanting to come back.

Booked a table for Saturday evening to celebrate my Mum’s 60th. My Sister, Brothers and their Wives had returned to Sheffield for the occasion, a rare treat which we were looking forward to, all going out for a meal at a pub we used to enjoy visiting. Unfortunately the staff were so ignorant that we decided to leave after our arrival drinks, as the poor service and attitude of the two members of staff serving us made us feel utterly unwelcome and the thought of spending £200-300 there that evening quite unappealing. I asked beforehand if I could bring balloons to put by the table, as a surprise for my Mum, which someone had confirmed would be fine. When I turned up with the balloons 2 hours before our 5pm booking, a very rude member of staff said they would be busy that evening and I would just need to leave them in the seating area. No smile, no pleasantry… The seating area was empty, so I left the balloons and just hoped they would still be there later, as I was literally leaving them in the seating area of the pub. On arriving at 5pm, the same ignorant woman from earlier showed us to our table. Again, no smile or pleasantry…to the extent I can only assume she had received some terrible news that afternoon. She took a drink order that seemed quite an inconvenience for her. Another woman brought the drinks out, unfortunately she seemed to have received the same terrible news that the other woman had/had been to the same school of customer service! Spilt the first drinks she brought out when slamming them down on the table, then slammed the second drinks she brought over down at one end and left - no query as to who these were for. After a while the initial woman came towards us and shouted over ‘let me know when the rest of you arrive’. Again, with the attitude and scowl that suggested us being there was a massive inconvenience. I had to point out we were all there - as confirmed at the point of booking, 2 of the 11 guests were a baby and toddler. My request for highchairs had been ignored (not a problem, we would just get our own), but that is why 2 of the seats didn’t have adults sitting in them. To which she got out her notebook and said in an awful tone ‘Just you lot then, what do you want?’. We were all completely taken aback at how rude this, and the entire service since arrival was. We decided to just pay for our drinks and leave. Given there were 11 of us and it was Saturday evening, this left us with a takeaway - disappointing given this was a special and rare family gathering for a 60th Birthday. We have all been to Shoulder of Mutton many times over the years, and never experienced anything like this. The staff and experience used to be lovely - what on Earth has happened?! Half our party have worked in similar pubs in the past, behaving like these two women would have been completely unacceptable. I think we’ll go to The Old Horns or Blue Ball in future, staff are much more welcoming.

Taking my son and his girlfriend to celebrate their engagement and really wanted it to be lovely ....... there early and table not ready ...,fair enough. Checked at booked time and told 10 mins . Checked again and told 5 mins cos the incumbents hadn’t even been told to leave . 20 mins late sat down with apology . No starters, main meal ordered and had to chase after 30 mins !!!!!! Food lovely and offered free drinks or dessert but sour taste left unfortunately which is a shame !!!

What a lovely valentine's night meal. The pub looked very nice and there were treats and candles on the table which was a nice touch. The food was delicious sharing starter, steak & the Chicken and we just a about managed to squeeze the yummy trio of puds. We were very well looked by all the staff.

We went on Valentine’s Day lunchtime. The food and service was excellent. We highly recommend The Shoulder of Mutton. We have been before and will certainly go again.

Just enjoyed a lovely family meal, served by friendly and helpful staff . The food was delicious, served with lovely accompanyments in a pub that clearly has a regular following of welcoming locals. Highly recommend a visit and we will definately be returning soon.

Not great. Staff not particularly friendly. Waiter knew absolutely nothing of the menu or prices. The food was reasonable but to offer tinned fruit cocktail crumble for £6 was a total mistake. The plates were also straight out of the oven and dangerously hot! The Valentines menu at £50 was extremely poor quality. One choice of starter, one choice of dessert (of which I liked neither) and the steak they advertised came with nothing more than chips and a tomato! Where were the things like salad, peas, onion rings, choice of steak sauces? Not a place you would go to twice I'm afraid.

Food was perfect and the staff were all so welcoming and smiley. Such a nice and lively atmosphere around the whole pub too.

We went to celebrate my 70th birthday there. Had a lovely meal. It’s a lovely, friendly establishment and made my birthday really special. I would highly recommend it. We will be going again soon.

Excellent Sunday lunch. Had the lamb which was cooked to perfection. Fabulous service from Nicole who made sure we were looked after.

We visited The Shoulder of Mutton, Worrall, Sheffield on Sunday lunch time. Very pleasant welcome from the staff, also really accommodating to my dietary needs. The food arrived well presented and HOT. Well done, a very pleasant experience.

Recently visited after a round of golf, food was brilliant! And our server rhiann was brilliant! Definitely recommend!

We love it here and are regulars at least once a week or once a fortnight. Staff always very friendly and attentive, and food is excellent, we have never had a bad meal. They clearly put a lot of effort into making it work and it shows. Keep up the fab work!

This is our local pub, 3 minutes away. We usually have a meal here every couple of weeks. When they started to do takeaways, we decided to continue our support of a local business and order our Sunday lunch from The Shoulder. We weren’t disappointed! Simply ring up, place your order, (either with a specific collection time or “ASAP”), pick up your order and enjoy. If you go ASAP, they’ll usually have it ready in about 10 minutes, a really tasty Sunday lunch and plenty of it, for £8 a head, sorted!!

This review just refers to this visit. I'm perfectly happy to come back and try again. The pub is very pleasant with nice staff but I found the cod and pancetta fishcakes very bland.By comparison, the Turkish delight cheescake was very good and certainly a little different.The service was haphazard - a side dish was missing and the family on the next table were upset when their young child's meal had not even been cooked and had to wait 10 minutes for it to arrive whilst the child had to endure watching them eating their own meal.

Telephoned yesterday morning to make a booking for this evening - gave my name and telephone number. Turned up tonight with my family and was greeted by a man who denied having our booking. Was told that they were full and there was no possibility of a table. There was no attempt at problem solving or reconciliation - it was a case of we haven’t got your booking, we’re full, get lost. Having worked in the industry I fully appreciate that mistakes happen but not making attempts to rectify the mistake is not good business sense, particularly during this difficult period for pubs. Nothing complicated - just to give The Shoulder of Mutton an idea - perhaps offering to book us in on another evening and giving a complimentary drink, starter, pudding etc.! We live in the area, this was a missed opportunity for future business from us. Will not go back there again, it was humiliating.

first time here and got 2 for 10.95. I had fish and chips, the fiance had fishcakes. both were absolutely fantastic. Fresh and cooked really nicely. the chips were really great and the fish piping hot with crispy batter. many thanks, will be back

My husband and I quite often visit the Shoulder of Mutton, either for a drink after walking the dog or for a meal. Our last visit was with family just before lock down came into force, for my husband's 70th birthday. The food and service was really good, as always. We look forward to visiting again, when we are able to.

Shocking service unfortunately. Employed bar staff are lovely but unfortunately the new person who has took over is very arrogant, unsociable and thinks he’s always right. Always had a nice time before and good food but tonight has left us not wanting to return.

Enjoyed a really lovely meal tonight in cosy comfortable surroundings with members of my family.It was pie night and the pies we chose were delicious. There was also a good selection of sides to go with them including fresh vegetables . Along with the excellent bar and polite friendly staff we will definately be eating here again. Infact we noticed fizz and fish Friday on the board so may have to give that a go in the near future

Usually the food isn’t too bad here but we didn’t even get into the pub yesterday because of the fighting that was taking place in its car park and bar. Looking after their regulars should be their priority and not hiring out their premises to a kids party bus where the adults clearly had too much to drink resulting in a mob fighting mentality - won’t be rushing back. Took too long to get things under control which frightened our 7 year old

I visited for lunch today, having previously visited this pub in June 2013, when I gave it a rather indifferent review.I'm pleased to report a much improved experience. Thankfully it has retained its historic feel and a real fire was blazing adding to the cosy atmosphere. There were quite a few customers given it was a cold, midweek afternoon - they obviously have a regular clientele.The staff were friendly and welcoming.I ordered Chicken, Ham and Leek Pie with a creamy tarragon flavoured filling with hand cut chips, peas and gravy for a very reasonable £9.45. The pie was of good quality and very tasty, hot and filling.The menu is well thought out and not too large - hence the food is likely to be fresh and there are various theme nights. A cheaper Early Bird menu operates 12-5 (I checked with the bar staff - the 5 pm deadline refers to time of ordering, not time of leaving).There was a range of 3 local real ales from Bradfield, Abbeydale and Black Sheep Breweries.I will return soon.

Six of us went for Sunday lunch and some had beef and some had lamb shank but we were all pleased by what we had. The only thing that let it down was the Yorkshire pudding, they were flat and heavy, someone needs to learn how to make a proper Y pud. Other than that every thing was lovely including the desserts and the waitress service but the back room where we were placed was freezing, the longer we sat there the colder we got.Maybe next time we will go in the summer.

Really enjoyed our lunch today - cosy pub with fires lit & friendly staff. 2 liver with onions bacon gravy & mash and 2 fish cakes homemade chips peas and tatare all delicious. Our meals were 2 for £10.95 so excellent value but there were lots of other choices. Will be back !

Had an excellent family meal here. 13 of us including 3 children - 1 of whom has a severe allergy. The food was amazing and we loved the choice of veg. The allergy was catered for with no problem.

Went to the shoulder of mutton not been in for a while sunday lunch menu I chose very nice and plenty of it too my only criticism of the food and pub overall is that on the next table to us there was a female smoking e cigarettes and we were left to smell and taste her vapour I'd just like to know what the policy is in the shoulder for smoking I thought it was illegal to smoke in a pub nowadays the woman was only 10ft from bar staff

Wow! Fantastic Sunday dinner. Had the platter with “ a little bit of everything “ and it did not disappoint! if you want to have top-notch food, with local home grown ingredients in a lovely country pub with roaring fire to boot then this is the place for you. Staff were lovely so thank you- will definitely be back.

A good choice menu with a good choice of none meat dishes. Cosy atmosphere. Will definitely return. Would recommend the vegetarian fajitas, very nice. Good choice of bar drinks too.

We decided to walk up to the shoulder before a football game at Hillsborough and it was a great choice!

A pleasant pub- we just popped in for a drink but food is clearly a big thing here too. Really enjoyed the half of ipa I tried- loved the glass it was served in as well. We felt chilled out and comfortable here.

Have quite often stopped at this pub for a drink when out walking. However, recently booked last minute for Sunday lunch, for 7 people and 1 dog! Friendly staff, excellent service and lovely food. Vegetables served were crisp and tasty, not over cooked. Will be going again.

I would definitely recommend The Shoulder. Delicious food, good quality and cooked well. Good sized portions and good mix of food for our party (ages 10-60). The steak & ale pie had loads of steak, the Shoulder’s own curry was superb (not too spicy) and my 3 plates for £12 were gorgeous (nachos/the Little Sausage Shop’s scotch egg/creamy mushrooms). When I booked they said there would be a wait for food so we were expecting a delay but it arrived relatively quickly. Despite it being busy the food was nicely cooked. The staff were friendly and nothing was too much trouble, always a smile despite being busy. We’ll definitely be going back.

Well what a lovely little pub. Great menu, great staff and tasty food. I really enjoyed the nacho starter and the mushroom pasta. We will definitely bare this pub in mind for future dining

Been many times as it is our local pub. Went for a birthday meal which was good. We were just in the bar section. It was packed with parents with kids and dogs, which made it noisy. We were glad to see it doing well, but I don’t think dogs should be allowed where food is

Each course was excellent and exceeded expectations for a pub meal, more like high quality restaurant food and very good value for money. The fish cakes and swordfish were excellent and tasted very fresh with tasty accompaniments. Very good service and friendly staff. We will be visiting again.

We visited the Shoulder of Mutton Wednesday 5 December 2018 as a large group of 50 walkers for a meal as it was near Christmas. We did not have Xmas Fayre butwe had all ordered previously from the normal menu for 2 meals for £10. We both had gammon, egg, peas and chips which was very nice. Others on our table had scamp or fish which also looked good. Although the food was good value the service was a bit slow and food was not delivered by table but what you had ordered so some on our table had eaten their meals before we got ours. I would go again as a couple or as a family but I am not sure about a group booking.

We came here three times over October half term and each time we were welcomed with our 2 dogs and had a great meal. Other pubs were either not dog-friendly or were not open for food - this pub was open at sensible times and had a well-cooked and varied menu. Hope to go back.

Visited with a friend who lives local had Sunday lunch and must say it was very nice had 2 different meats beef and lamb and I have no grumbles plenty of veg too loverly pub and will visit again in near future

My wife and I decided to walk here from Grenoside and celebrate my 65th birthday.

Had a lovely lunch with friends at this friendly traditional pub. The staff were very attentative and friendly. The food was very good especially the salmon and dill fish cakes. Compliments to the chef . My friends ploughman’s was enormous and didn’t disappoint. I will definitely be going back.

Really enjoyed lunch at this cosy friendly pub. The staff were very hospitable and served great food at good value foroney prices. The salmon & dill fishcakes were delicious & my friend had the spinach & ricotta cannelloni which again looked really yummy & she loved it. All in all a lovely pub lunch.

Overpriced and terrible quality I've eaten better food in big chain pubs at 2 4 9.99 horrendous. Steak too hard to cut so had to leave even though it was £14 with the sauce, kids pizza were burnt and and no tomato base and they charged 4.45 for 2 sausages!! absolutely disgusting what a waste of £55. This used to be a lovely place to eat, avoid at all costs there's much better food available.

Super menu and two meals for £9.95 for early birds makes it very good. On the main menu the starter of octopus left me wondering if I will ever have something as good in the Mediterranean next month?

Great place for a dinner a drink with friends and family..Have had both the fish n chips and the pork steak and can highly recommend both. Head chef even came out to introduce himself and say hello..Great friendly atmosphere. Large menu to choose from and large drinks menu.

Spacious and full of character, The Shoulder of Mutton here in Worral has a great selection food and drink thats caters for everyone and anyone. We shared some starters of Nachos, breadcrumbed Brie and Homemade French Onion Soup (The Favourite...)Although I had pork loin steaks with an amazing mushroom and garlic sauce with green beans & mash, most of our table indulged in Tuesday’s Special, Build your own ‘Burger Night’. They were all perfect and everyone thoroughly enjoyed them. The service was warm and we could have easily sat and enjoyed the atmosphere all night. Thank you again for a much needed relaxing evening.

We've just been for my sister's birthday and were easily catered for 16 people including a small child in a high chair.The service was fantastic and with a sense of humour(needed with 16!) Nothing was too much trouble for the amazing staff,would highly recommend this place and the value for money was outstanding , well done ,we'll be back
