Marmadukes Cafe Deli in Sheffield

Awful strange service and I wasn't the only person I heard complaining about it. Nipped in for coffee, got handed a food menu and told to come back when ready to order. I said I am ready to order I just want two flat whites. Waitress just stared and then walked away. Was left at the desk confused holding two food menus. She then made a big polaver as to which seat I wanted them bringing to outside quite obviously just being awkward on purpose. Overheard the people behind me saying the exact same things. All in all it's a shame as it was probably one of the best coffees I've had in ages.

Stopped here for breakfast after reading great reviews. The service was okay - waited a little for order to be taken but it was busy at the time. Food was okay and on par with standard cafes. The home brew was good and would recommend. The prices were high in comparison with places with similar food offerings.

Having searched around for a good coffee shop we are convinced this may be the best one in Sheffield! Sitting on the bench by the counter we witnessed a steady stream of customers desperate for a table and we watched all the delicious plates of food going by. We have been for a quick coffee twice and we have booked a table to go back and sample the food 🙂

I seldom post a complaint on this platform. If l do have a complaint with a venue that l visit, or a service l receive, l will speak to the venue personally. On this occasion l am doing both. My daughter has been visiting me here in Sheffield for a few days. When she and l were in town today, and were thinking of a bite to eat, she particularly wanted to go to Marmadukes as we have been there before. The food was good as was the service for the most part. But... Half way through our meal a couple came in with their cat and sat at a table near to us. The cat was in a 'pet bag' but the couple took it out and it remained on their table for some of the time that they were there. My daughter and l were horrified! I complained to the manager before we left. I told him that l didn't want to have a meal at an expensive cafe (which it is to be honest) with any cat, least of all one that was on a table near to where l was eating. Surely that must anyway be a health and safety issue? When l spoke to the manager afterwards, I was told that the couple had been told to keep the cat in the bag - which they had clearly ignored. But neither he, or any other of the staff, reminded them that that they were supposed to keep their pet in the 'pet bag'. Why anyone would take a cat to a restaurant is beyond me anyway but, if they do, there is a separate cafe in Sheffield that is specifically for cat owners. But the cafe l visited today was not billed as 'Marmadukes the Cat Café'. Personally, l would not allow any pets into an eating establishment - with the exception of guide dogs of course. My daughter and l are not anti-pet (she has a dog) but neither of us can understand why anyone would take a pet into any town. Not massively impressed with the manager's response to be honest. My daughter has worked in hospitality herself and told me that, if she had been dealing with the matter, she would have at least taken the drinks off the bill and, on reflection, I agree with her. We won't be visiting Marmadukes again.

Second time in 6 months came here for breakfast while visiting Sheffield, great food and great coffee, will be back in the future

It's very small inside, so we were asked to join a 'sharer' table, which wasn't great. It was basically a table for 4 where they had seated two people, so we sat at the other end of the table. The photos of the menus on here are massively outdated. The full English breakfast is £18. The food was nice but it wasn't spectacular. Mushrooms cooked with garlic don't belong on a traditional breakfast, neither do Chipotle beans, both overpowering flavours to go with bacon, sausage and egg. Poached eggs with avocado on toast was £12.60. For one slice of toast with 2 eggs and avocado is very expensive. The eggs are the best thing about this place. They were very nice with bright orange yolks. They sell the eggs, so I asked for half a dozen. They advertise them in the window for 60p per egg. When she brought them over and gave us the bill, it was £4.50 for 6. Apparently the egg carton costs another 90p! £4.50 for six small eggs is ridiculous. The staff aren't very pleasant either. As soon as our waitress realised she wasn't getting a tip, she couldn't wait to get us out and just scowled at us as we left. All in, it was £42.50 for two of us. There are much better options available for that price. I wouldn't go back here.

Was made to feel like an inconvenience

Picked up a flat white and mince pie to takeaway, both were really nice. First time I've called in but on my list to return.

It's always a vibe when I go with my wife, staff are so friendly and the food is good. Especially the amba sauce 👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾

I went a couple of times, some of the staff are really nice and friendly, some look so bored and wanna quit. I tried their fries, it's good. Their brownies are the best I've tasted in sheffield so far, the coffee is mid.

we chose to go here as the food looked good and it said it was between £10-20 per person and had generally good reviews. The food lived up to the reviews but the service was very slow, it took nearly half an hour to bring drinks out for the three of us and it wasnt very busy when we went. my friend got served a latte with a dirty spoon and no one was around to ask for a new one so we had to keep going to the till to ask for things like sugar, a clean spoon ect. normally this isnt something id write a review about but they added a 20% compulsary service charge that they didnt tell us about. this ended up making our meal about £25 per person and as students this was not a nice number to look at, with a compulsory charge that high i thought the service would be better. it was also very loud so if you want a calmer environment in the mornings this place isnt where you should go, overall wasnt worth it.

We stop for little sweet break and we enjoyed their pastries, for once not too much sweet, and their drink. We like the homemade food, relax and cosy decorations

The quality is good. But 2 poached eggs with one piece of sourdough toast for £9 is hard to justify.

I recently visited Marmadukes Café with my partner, and it was an absolute delight. We ordered the Eggs Benedict and porridge, and both dishes were incredibly delicious. The Eggs Benedict had perfectly poached eggs with a creamy hollandaise sauce, and the porridge was rich, comforting, and full of flavour. The presentation of the food was beautiful—very clean and aesthetic, adding to the overall experience. The café itself has a cosy and relaxing atmosphere with stylish decor that makes you feel instantly at home. Whether you're looking for a casual breakfast or a quiet spot to unwind, Marmadukes is definitely worth a visit! We'll certainly be returning soon.

The deli sandwich is insanely good and it could be the best sandwich I’ve ever had (ham and cheddar today with a sauce/dressing)

Lovely place with a great atmosphere, staff were lovely and very attentive and food and drink were great! Also a fab location next to the church, very pretty view.

Like it very much. Although I was just passing by, I was attracted by the store sign at first and ordered a glass of Yorkshire Tea and a Deli sandwich, both of which were very good. I particularly recommend the Deli sandwich meat, which is really delicious. It is almost the best sandwich I have ever eaten in the UK. I think the sauce and seasoning are particularly good. Worth coming again.

Not much room for people in wheelchairs need more comfable seats downstairs and tables are also small bit expensive really for what you get but aways busy just hoe your paying your staff more than mim wage the money your making

Me encantaba este lugar, pero parece que los estándares se han deslizado durante mis últimas visitas. Al personal no parece importarle. A menudo solo hablan entre ellos y no tan atentos como solían ser. La comida está bien, pero lamentablemente, hay otros lugares de brunch que son mejores.

Promedio en el mejor de los casos. Pedí huevos escalfados en tostadas y un sándwich de salchichas. Los huevos escalfados estaban demasiado escalfados (probablemente porque eran muy pequeños) y apenas un raspado de untable en la tostada hizo que la comida estuviera muy seca. Aparentemente el sándwich de salchichas estaba bien (nada que escribir en casa) pero el café era muy agradable.

One of my favourite spots for dining on my own. Great bakery items. Perhaps too many egg dishes on the menu at the moment but the menu does change

Front of house is just a bunch of flappy birds with no direction. Their take out cold coffee cups are a liability - the lids are so flimsy I think I spilt a third of my coffee by the time I got back to the office! Decent food and pastries made on premises so definitely worth a try!

I never write reviews but felt the need after one of the most overpriced bland meal I’ve ever had. Portion sizes are weak! The only thing keeping this from no stars are the friendly staff. Otherwise avoid.

The staff were exceptionally warm and welcoming, and the atmosphere had a cozy charm that initially drew me in. Unfortunately, the experience took a turn for the worse. The prices were outrageously high for what felt like a meager offering—a portion so minuscule it barely qualified as a snack. The flavors were almost nonexistent, leaving me unsatisfied and frustrated. It was such a letdown that I had to leave in search of a proper meal elsewhere. Thankfully, I’ve found redemption at South Street Kitchen, where I'm now indulging in a luscious, piping-hot chocolate that's hitting all the right notes. Big up Tesco for the £3 meal deal instead of a £90 waste of time.

Highly inadequate. Was informed they run out of beans for full English and they are going to be substituted with extra tomatoes and mushrooms. God bless otherwise instead of half a tomato I would have gotten a quarter. Waited 50 minutes for the food and then another 5 for cutlery. No wonder they ask to pay after placing the order otherwise people would start leaving frustrated. And all that for only 18£.

Really lovely little quaint cafe in Sheffield city centre. I had a latte coffee and it was very nice. The outside benches are a little uncomfortable - but I won't hold that against them!

Great coffee! Great food. Friendly staff. Brilliant baby changing facilities! Not loads of space for prams inside but if the weather is good there’s space outside. Booking is recommended.

If you're looking to get completely and utterly addicted to a cafe, look no further. Weak coffee? Go elsewhere. Unique and seasonal flavours? Stay put. Marmadukes is hipster-galore but chic and friendly with both individual and communal seating depending on how busy they are. Their coffee cake and seasonal granola trumped their rhubarb french toast by being absolutely sensational, with the maple bacon being the perfect salty accompaniment.

Si pudiera darle a este lugar 6 estrellas sin duda lo haría. Visité con mi amigo en nuestro viaje a Sheffield. Reservamos en línea y llegamos un poco antes de nuestra hora reservada. El lugar estaba bastante ocupado para decir que era un miércoles a la hora del almuerzo, pero no fue ningún problema y nos ofrecieron una opción de asientos interiores o exteriores. Elegimos sentarnos al aire libre ya que era un día encantador. En cuestión de segundos la camarera estaba allí trayendo agua en una jarra y vasos peculiares. Elegimos el sándwich del día que era salmón ahumado y queso crema con eneldo y pepino en un rollo de masa madre con semillas. Vino con una hermosa ensalada de cuscús. Honestamente puedo decir que nunca he disfrutado de un “sándwich” tanto como este. Fue perfecto. También tenía un chai latte que era increíble. La camarera estaba claramente ocupado, pero ella todavía logró tener una charla con nosotros antes de que nos fuimos y nos hizo sentir como clientes valiosos. (Desafortunadamente no me dieron su nombre). Ella realmente hizo nuestra visita una agradable. Gracias Marmadukes. Sin duda volveremos a visitar la próxima vez que vengamos a Sheffield.

Lovely coffee but at £14 for a sandwich I'm sad to say I'm priced out of this place as a lunch destination and will be heading elsewhere from now on. Now Cambridge street is open there are more interesting and reasonably priced options in the area.

Waited 30 mins for someone to take our order. Then was told there was a 30 min wait for coffee(?!). We told them that meant we didn’t have time to order anymore, so we were booted out to make room for a ‘queue which was out of the door’ which was non existent. There were loads of free tables. Crap.

Fantastic food. Had the smashed avocado on toast . There were a lot of other elements that made it fantastic. The staff were very helpful.

Could only pop in to get a takeaway, but this place came up recommended when I googled coffee in Sheffield. Good coffee and always cool when places stock pea milk - really nice alternative!! Will hopefully come back for a sit-in again someday

We’ve been here many times but our latest visit yesterday was expensive and awful. We had a bacon on cornbread sandwich which was so crumbly you would’ve needed a spoon, bacon was poor quality. I had a tiny spicy type of roll and a plate full of dried up slaw (awful). We mentioned the bread and were told it’s the style of it but it wasn’t like that last time. The peppermint was also tasteless. Extremely expensive; we won’t be visiting again.

Amazing!! We had a fantastic breakfast and sample the new French toast on the menu! We just had to take some pastries away with us too which were delicious!! Lovely coffee too!

I got great food, tho a friend told me it depends on what you get. Service was much quicker than expected and even tho the prices can be seen as high it's fairly average for Sheffield. The place itself is really cool because it feels both retro and modern at the same time.

There are more customers on weekends, so it takes about 20 minutes to get a seat. Delicious lunch, friendly waiters.

Food was very tasty. Sadly it was marred by the price. £15.5 for eggs Benedict. Breakfast for two came to £38. Sadly the cost outweighed the taste of the food. Not sure you can get away with charging such prices

Very nicely located, it's nice to sit outside. Central but quiet. Inside it goes like this. Food very good, but not cheap either. Very good quality and beautifully prepared. Coffee was great. However, different. One day, excellent, the next day very good, but not as good as the day before.

The veggie breakfast was delicious! Iced Latte was perfect with the brown sugar syrup and the hand brew was excellent. All over great service and the outdoor seating was so fun

This is such a great place. I love the house and the food is so fresh and comes in surprising combos. They are super friendly and we went there twice when visiting Sheffield. I can highly recommend it!!!

Marmadukes is a quirky cafe. Always busy and the food is good. But it's also slightly expensive too. Worth a visit but save up first. We went for a full breakfast but it was too much to us to pay, so settled for toast and a drink.

A beautiful and quiet coffee shop, close to the center on Norfolk Street. Its hot drinks are delicious. It has drops and sweets, and you often won't find cake or sweets after three o'clock.

We visited on a Sunday morning, for coffee and pastries. It was quiet when we arrived (about 10am), but got busier. The coffee was lovely and the pastries were equally as tasty. Would definitely visit again.

Absolutely excellent little brunch place in the heart of the old city with a very cool bohemian vibe. I had Eggs Royale and it was some of the best I’ve ever had. If you’re able to sit in the room upstairs overlooking Norfolk Street, it’s worth doing for the people watching. Will be back!

Left feeling ripped-off! We bought two portions of the salad to take out. I have to say that it was delicious but we were very unimpressed by the size of the portions. I thought the boxes felt light but when we opened them there was literally one inch of salad in the bottom of a small cardboard box. To compound our disappointment, I didn't have any potatoes and my wife didn't have any Cauliflower which kind of undermines its description! Either the portions should be more generous or the prices should be lowered but I won't be rushing back until something changes.

My friends and I had a lovely breakfast here. We all agreed that the food was absolutely delicious. You could tell that good quality ingredients had been used and everything was cooked to perfection. The waitress who served us was very friendly and happy. Nothing was too much trouble for her, even when one of my friends wanted a dish from the menu to be slightly altered to suit her taste. We would definitely eat here again.

A very poor experience!! A salad ordered was basically shredded cabbage. They had to be reminded that cashew nuts were missing so a very small pot was added, with the nuts all stuck together! This cost £12 and Small cafe latte - on the cold side - added to the total cost (£15.70) I shall never recommend this cafe again, having booked for a large group !!

Four of us visited on a Sunday. Excellent service, coffee and cakes. Very centrally located. We were all very happy but I can imagine it gets very busy on weekdays.

I'm very pleased to choose this place for breakfast. The Full English Breakfast here was another level, a festival of flavours and proper bread. The atmosphere was great and I feel like at home. Overall the food quality compared to prices is reasonable. Another top place where I can truly recommend.

My wife and I visited here before a matinee at the Crucible. There is no provision for wheelchair access, so we sat outside. Ordered 2 coffees and a Halloumi Sandwich (fried halloumi, tomato & pomegranate salsa, hummus, fresh herbs, brioche bun, w seasonal slaw), to share for £20.30. The coffees came first, they were very small. When the food eventually came out, I was shocked at the size of the portion. It wasn’t a sandwich, it was a rather burnt bun and the portion of side salad was so small, it was almost immaterial. Such a shame as this place promised lots but delivered a very average lunch at a very expensive cost. I’m from London, where you could get something much tastier and more reasonable.

Brilliant service cool minimal surroundings that are obviously the vision of real people that care about what they are offering coffee a perfection and breakfast a delight. Very welcome on a windswept mid morning!

One of the nicest places in Sheffield, and I really that they always have a different menu (seasonal ones). Very good food. Vegetarian options could be improved.

What a charming place! The service was crazily fast and it was nearly at capacity despite it being an early Saturday morning, this cafe is very popular (and it was clear why). Had a lovely bowl of danish porridge - sounds simple but the sign of a good cafe is one that can make something so simple so delicious. Coffee was wonderful and even things like the crockery and interior were beautiful, it was true rustic elegance. Next time we're in Sheffield we will be back 💜

Visited with my daughter for brunch. We felt welcomed as soon as we walked through the door, we were greeted with a smile and a friendly welcome and shown to a table on one of the upper floors without any waiting. It's a delightful café in an old building with quirky decor that fits it perfectly. We both had the Eggs Royale with smoked salmon; service was quick, it was beautifully presented and more importantly absolutely delicious 😋

The café is quaint and has a beauitful rustic interior with a lovely view of the Cathedral. The staff are so accommodating and the menu has many delicious options. I would recommend to anyone looking for an enjoyable breakfast/ lunch in Sheffield.

A definite favourite every time I visit Sheffield. The food is outstanding and the service is top quality. The pastry selection is fantastic as well. The server was also very helpful and knowledgable when dealing with dietary restrictions for our table.

Really lovely brunch here today. The food was delicious and it was appreciated that I got a little pot to put my tea bag in - most places don't think of this. My only slight issue was the acoustics where we were seated. Conversations were echoey and very loud but that was only a minor thing.
