The venue is wonderful, the service awful. The problem with this bar is that the management simply let the younger staff run it and provide very little oversight. This has been the case on the last couple of occasions I have visited, when the behaviour of other guests has been awful and simply unchecked. I am quite used to rough language in a rough environment but I really do not expect other customers to be using the C word in this premium hotel and no one to intervene. When I did stand up and ask the customer to tone it down, other patrons actually cheered me. This is a really expensive bar and no-one goes in it to be treated like that. It also goes for long periods of time without a member of staff gracing the customers with their presence. There are so many better places in Stamford and not all charge £42 for a meagre bottle of Picpoul de Pinet.

Visited for a light bite and a pint of beer and a glass of wine. Firstly, the Adnams Broadside was at a correct temperature and taste. I ordered a 'rare' beef sandwich with horseradish and my wife ordered the smoked salmon sandwich. Both served to perfection. The roast beef was both rare, tender and generous. The York Bar is a cosy, traditional room and enhanced with recently installed Christmas decorations at the start of the festive season. The final price, not over expensive for the experience. Over more than twenty years, we have never been let down with our visits to the George whatever the occasion including traditional lunches and weddings. Thank you once again!

Coming to the end of a week in Stamford and have used the York Bar at the George for lunchtime sandwiches and drinks. Very impressed both days by the friendly efficient service especially as it was two different pairs of staff.

This lovely and airy space is the public bar of the famous George Hotel. Leather sets and an open fire add to the relaxed and traditional ambiance

This is a very special little bar which is an integral part of the iconic George Hotel. Panelled in Oak, with an open fire place it is a great place to relax in the heart of the town

We called here with our little dog at lunch time. It was busy but we were able to find a seat. The service was very attentive, it was a hot day and we were immediately offered a bowl of water for our dog, and they even gave her a dog biscuit! It was very welcome. We had the tomato and mozzerella sandwich which came with a lovely salad garnish. The staff could not have been friendlier - we will certainly come again when we are in the area.

We were only in Stamford for a matter of days, but visiting The York Bar is a "must" and we were not disappointed. The bar lunch was top quality, the beer was perfect and the welcome/service very warm and efficient.

A visit to the York bar is a pleasure indeed. The staff are so friendly and the bar menu is excellent and not too large

Two to three decades ago this used to be the elite bar to be seen at in Stamford. Sadly it has lost that panache. With the dark wood beams and lead latticed windows the ambience is almost akin to being aboard a galleon. A lovely cosy place in the winter months. Patronised by tourists and guests of the George hotel in the main. Drinks aren't cheap but the afternoon tea is well worth stopping in for.

We visited this bar on a rainy Sunday for drinks and snacks. I liked the atmosphere with large, comfortable chairs. It's a lovely place to sit, read a newspaper or meet friends. The drinks were well served and the service was quick. We also had a sandwich, which was just average. I really love The George generally and other parts of the hotel serve much nicer food and so I'm really not sure why they don't get it right in the bar. The menu is very short which is fine for a bar, but the quality is not quite there. I would recommend this part of the hotel for drinks, or just a coffee - it's very good. The snacks were average on the day we visited.

The George is a very nice hotel and the service good but .... We had lunch in the York Bar at The George today. Two of us had ham sandwiches which the menu describes as "Local Ham George Cooked" at £6.95 per sandwich - if it was George Cooked they should be ashamed. It was completely tasteless, very finely machine sliced, shiny ham that looked like pieces of plastic. The granary bread was slightly stale and I'm not sure what the spread was but it didn't taste like butter and wasn't very nice. One of our party had an "Open ham & cheese with mustard Oakham ale and Worcestershire sauce toastie" at £8.10 which consisted of two small diagonal slices of baguette with some melted cheese and a few very small pieces of chopped ham. It looked very unappetizing. They all came with a bit of salad garnish. We also had a couple of small bowls of "Homemade fat cut chips" at £4.95 each!! Don't bother going there if you want a nice sandwich - there must be better places to eat in Stamford. Including 3 drinks it cost almost £50 - they're taking the mickey!!

From the moment we stepped into the apres ski lodge we were greeted with an incredible warm welcome, great conversation and recommendations from the team there. The food was to die for, special mention to the chicken liver parfait and roast beef on the Sunday menu, absolutely faultless! Warm, welcoming and sociable atmosphere and really well decorated space for the winter season. Will be back!

My wife and I really enjoy this Lounge. The food is very good and the service is brilliant. The atmosphere is vibrant especially when the street windows are open. The staff are very good with a special note for the lovely Lauisa. She makes the best strawberry milk shake ever. And, they are DOG FRIENDLY.
