This Hotel & Pub is a hidden gem, 20minutes from Grantham in a lovely quiet village. On arrival there was a problem with our 14yr old son missing off our booking (the fault of Agoda booking agency) as they did not have a family room which we had been able to book. The 2 ladies at the hotel could not have been any more helpful, understanding and accommodating and at no extra expense to us offered our son his own twin room. (He was over the moon with this!) We had a lovely dinner in the quaint pub which also has a pool table and darts board to use. There was a great selection of Gins and non alcoholic drinks. Everyone was friendly and the accommodation was clean and of a high standard with complimentary toiletries and very comfy beds. I would highly recommend staying at the Royal Oak.

This pub was actually recommended to me as having good food. Unfortunately that was not the case it was very poor. The bar itself is dated. It does have a good car park and a nice beer garden. That’s the only two things I can recommend.

Table of 3 for an evening meal on the 11th of September. Starters were generously portioned (whitebait)and were of high quality. Chicken Jalfrezi and 10" Pepperoni Pizza presented well and tasted even better than they looked. Service from staff was inviting and friendly combined with a welcoming atmosphere added to the entire experience. Cannot wait to return soon.

We called here after driving up from Cambridge wanting a country style pub/restaurant. It was sunday lunch and many places just looked too busy, here was so relaxed with a real fire and friendly landlord. We had the sunday roast beef dinner, very nice, good selection of real ales as well as gins and the usual. Will definitely visit again.

Stayed for 3 nights with my husband, teenage son and 2 doggies. We were shown to our room upon arrival and we were happy with the accommodation ( we stayed in the family room which consisted of a large en-suite room and a small room with bunk beds ). The bed was very comfortable and we all slept well. It was also quiet too. Breakfast was excellent and our family who live close by were also welcomed as extra breakfast guests on the last day. Our doggies were well catered for too and had a breakfast sausage each morning! We had a fabulous meal in the bar, great choices on the menu and wine and beer also good. We found the food to be reasonably priced. I would definitely recommend the Royal Oak - the owners were lovely and friendly and we will certainly return in the future.

Went to the Royal Oak tonight and our booked table was not ready. We were then put near the door which was very cold. The food was average but the final straw was a ladies earring in the bottom of my whiskey glass. The response to this was we put it in there for safekeeping. No apology was passed on and this was absolutely disgusting. Only after I complained did they take the cost of the whiskey off.

We stayed at this pub a week ago which was at about the same time as Vacation77007 whose review has already been listed. We entirely agree with that review as we had the same experience - basic menu, poor acidic wine- and not what we were expecting given the reviews for this pub. Also we were irritated by the loud ‘background’ music from the 1970s. There were only eight other dining customers on the Friday night. In comparison the next night we had a meal at a nearby pub which was excellent and had a great menu to choose from. It catered for 50-60 diners and all the tables were taken. Vacation77007 states that there were no other diners at the Royal Oak that night except his family. The Royal Oak has a good sized car park. Accommodation was in an annexe next to the pub and that was ok. Breakfast is taken in the bar area of the pub. To our surprise we were told that breakfast was at 9.00am. We were given some leeway on our first day (8.30am) but there was no leeway on our second morning. We have stayed in many b&b’s round the country and all serve breakfast 8-9am with some willing to serve even at 7.30am. However the Royal Oak is locked up until 9am which prevents making a start to breakfast. To get on and do what we wanted to do that day we had no choice but to have cereal, toast and coffee and avoid the wait for the cooked breakfast. Coffee consists of just one mugful. We wondered if we would have fared better having breakfast at a transport cafe.

We stayed here for a night on our Castles tour after visiting Belvoir Castle. What a great place! Swayfield is a pretty village with some great walks. We had a wonderfully warm welcome from Cathy on arrival. The accommodation was really clean and very comfortable and perfect for our needs. We were in room 3 - large main room with great comfy double bed and enough room for all of us to laze around. But also great privacy later as the bunk beds for the kids were in a little room off the main room. Good bathroom with a perfectly sized bath for chilling. We ate at the pub too. Great pub grub (enjoyed the spicy burger and baguettes), fantastic cider (Aspalls) on tap, and a great atmosphere. And the locals were warm and friendly. Nice little pub garden as well. And on top of everything else, they are really dog friendly, so Benji enjoyed the stay too. I definitely recommend this as a place to stay and hope to return again soon!

When I read the reviews of this restaurant it bears no resemblance to our experience on Saturday evening. The menu online is certainly not what we were offered which was extremely basic to say the least (akin to a burger bar)…..two of the family had lasagne (I have had better ready meal versions) and did not find any pasta within?? just a sloppy meat sauce/topped with an equally runny cheese sauce....I think to summarise the rest would be 'quantity' rather than quality - I guess a good indicator would be that there were no other diners present on a Saturday evening!! The saving grace was the Company - but needless to say, will not be returning!! Very disappointed!

We have just spent two nights at The Royal Oak. From our arrival to departure we were dealt with the utmost kindness and friendly professionalism. The accommodation was modern comfortable and spotlessly clean. Breakfasts were good with plenty of choice. The à la carte menu was excellent and the grilled sardines I had were first class as was the sea bass we both had for main course. Puddings were all home made and irresistible. All in all a first class stay.

Stayed for one night at The Royal Oak as a break before travelling South. The staff were welcoming & friendly personally leading us to the accommodation which was spacious, clean & tidy with toiletry extras in the en suite that some hotel do not even provide. The beds are comfy as well. The 16th century bar with original oak beams & creaking ceiing has bags of character. The beers on tap are enough to keep one going all night. The evening meal was selected from a reasonably comprehensive menu & was served piping hot with fresh veg & generous in proportion. Breakfast next morning was equally generous & piping hot with a selection of cereals to start & generous amounts of toast. The coffee served was filtered & very good. The Royal Oak as is Swayfield is situated within easy reach of Grantham, Bourne, Stamford, Melton Mowbray & Rutland Water. Access is either off the A1, A151 or A6121. If you want a great meal, good beer & a very good night sleep in quiet surroundings this is the place to go & worth the journey in to the country side..

Fantastic stay! Our rooms was beautifully decorated and a great size, and the bed was so comfy! This hotel also comes with the kindest owners in the whole world. My friend and I stayed at the Royal Oak this weekend whilst visiting a local music event. At the end of the night we found ourselves separated from our group and with no transport home, due to the size of the event and it’s location there were no taxis available and none of the event staff were able to help. We had 5% battery left on our phones and were stranded outside in the freezing cold. In our desperation we rang the hotel who were kind enough to come and battle the chaos at the event to come and pick us up. I honestly don’t know what we would have done without them! Thank you once again to the lovely team at the Royal Oak ❤️

I had a luxury double room which faced out onto the carpark, so it was lovely and light. The bathroom was large - with a bath and brilliant shower which is just what you need after a day biking! The breakfast buffet was a bit limited - a couple of different cereals, but no fruit. However, that's because they were more focused on the cooked breakfast! I think that I had the most gourmet beans on toast that I have ever been treated to! Excellent coffee, too.

Friendly service , lovely atmosphere sadly let down by poorly prepared food lacking in any real culinary skill . I ordered the Pie of the day which basically consisted of diced pre cooked meat re heated in gravy. Basically nothing I couldn’t have cowboyed together at home . Come on now you really could do better than that . My son orders profiteroles , whilst being s good portion they were let down by a horrible consistency chocolate custard Yuk ! For £50 including drinks we really do expect better than this . Wouldn’t rush back sadly .

Just had a weekend break at the Royal Oak and if your looking for a bustling weekend away this is not the place for you.If, like I was looking for a quiet relaxing weekend you will struggle to beat this charming proper village B&BThe rooms are at the side of the pub and are of very good quality, fluffy fresh towels on each day we were there and the room was very cleanThe only criticism I would have is I think the TV would be better if it were on the wallThat aside the check in at about 2-30 was very warm and friendly The pub serves good value drinks and sitting by the fire on a cold January night adds to the charmThe food I have to say was excellent really high quality execution of very tasty foodThe breakfast was also freshly prepared and was again of very high quality The staff were very accommodating and nothing was to much troubleAll in all a very good stay and a cracking option for a good value for money breakWell done the Royal Oak

Stayed one night to break up a long trip. Rooms are amazing for the price. Clean and tidy 99% of the room only off putting factor was the dirty light in the room you could see all the bugs that had died in there it would only take a few minutes to detach and clean it. The shower was also hideous no good pressure and sounded as if there was a 0lane taking off in there not sure what it was as the shower looked relatively new. Food wise we were really looking forward to eating here after reading the reviews and tried all 3 course which on the whole were standard pub food nothing that amazing although I have to say the breakfast was top notch! But on the whole would C9ome back anytime.

Stayed at The Royal Oak for one night as a getaway to celebrate both my husband and my birthdays. Room was clean, warm and comfortable. Bed was very comfy. We had dinner in the Pub Restaurant. Locals were friendly and the staff were also cheerful and friendly. We both had the sirloin steak which was delicious. The chef obviously gets his meat from a butcher who knows his stuff. Served with chips, mushrooms, tomatoes and onion rings. We didn't have a starter but my husband had treacle sponge puddings and custard and I had ice cream. The menu is very good and plenty of choice and there is a specials board. Lovely atmosphere in the pub - warm and welcoming. We had breakfast the next day which was included in the price - again well cooked and delicious, with choice of cereals and toast and full English with tea/coffee.Just to say that we understood from the owner that the pub doesn't open until 5pm on some midweek days and so as the check in time is 5pm if you are planning to arrive earlier it might be an idea to phone ahead.Overall a great place to stay.

Don't be put off if the restaurant is empty when you go in - I think we came at its quietest time but wow what amazing food and service! Kids menu was excellent - generous size for my 7 and 9 year old boys who both eat like adults! Pie and Pork belly were delicious and the desserts nearly killed us because we had to eat all of it - it was so good.

Stayed one night on business to break a journey north on the A1, it's 10-15 minutes from the Colsterworth junction. Rooms are "motel-style" in a purpose built block adjacent to the pub, clean and comfortable, plenty of space. Nice pub, friendly staff, good food, good beer. WiFi only works in the bars, not the rooms. Good cooked breakfast in the morning and very good value overall. Worth seeking out.

Five of us were staying for 2 nights to attend a wedding in Irnham Hall. The three rooms provided were large and provided us with a very good standard of furnishing, cleanliness and linen.Service received was excellent e.g. gluten free breakfast provided for one of our party without any fuss or comment. Our evening meal was excellent and the service friendly and extremely competent. I would recommend The Royal Oak unreservedly as a relaxed place to stay at a very reasonable cost.

Good food and nice venue. Booked in for a family meal on Saturday night. Got there at 7.30pm and it was nice a quiet. We sat in the bar area and enjoyed some lovely grub. Starters main and desserts. There was myself, my wife and my 9 year old.The bill came to £75 which I was happy to pay as the food was nice quality. This included a couple of drinks each too.If I had to say something negative I would have questioned the price of my daughters child meal as it was supposed to be a smaller portion which it looked like but paid full price. £8 for a kids meal seemed a little expensive so double check on price before ordering. There was not actually a kids menu so they did there best to accommodate so we ordered the pasta carbonara. It was lovely though. We will be returning...

The place is very friendly and the staff are great, accommodation is good and being improved as well which bodes well for its future.Where it failed for us was in the timing of breakfast on the Saturday, we were assured that it would be available from 07:30 - on many visits prior to our stay - on the day befire it turned out that it was not possible, we had quite a few booked to come along and this did not go down well as we all had a very full day and the need for an early start had been imperative. Fortunately it did not ruin the day but it added undue pressure for what we had to achieve.

Many pubs / inns offering accommodation seem to have restricted / late check-in times, as is the case with The Royal Oak, where the general opening time to the public of 5.00pm is also the earliest that the weary traveller can check into his / her room. That said, the accommodation offered is in one of several purpose-built, self-contained units located to the side of the pub (and not in the main old character building itself). The units are clean, tidy, well-equipped and adequately spacious, albeit four of them do butt up right to the side of the road and can be a bit noisy if you want to have your window open or vulnerable to prying eyes from people walking along the pavement. Having said that, the pub is located in the quaint little village of Swayfield, so traffic 'per se' is not really a major problem.FOR:~ excellent quality food, although following a superb evening meal, the following morning's breakfast was not quite up to the same standard~ large car park from which there is easy, wheelchair friendly access to the accommodation~ friendly and extremely helpful staffAGAINST:~ late check-in time~ noise from traffic and the the potential lack of privacy from pedestrians when curtains are not drawnOVERALL:~ excellent 'short stay' location and ideally situated for visiting either the local towns of Stamford (full of historical interest) and Grantham, or the National Trust properties of Woolthorpe Manor (birthplace of Isaac Newton) or Belton House~ as with most Wowcher deals - of which this was one - the one night stay offered very good value for money.

The accommodation was very good. Large pleasant rooms, the family one had separate sleeping area for the boys. The beds were comfortable with good quality linen. The bathrooms were very pleasant the electric shower above the bath provided plenty of hot water. I would recommend this hotel for an away break. It is close to the road and passing traffic early in the morning might be a problem fo a light sleeper.

For a pub in a beautiful little village. The food was amazing. Both fish steak and gammon was all perfectly cooked beautifully presented. Our two youngest shared and adult portion and they loved it too. Best meal we've had in a while. At then in the garden so the kids could play.

We visited the pub while visiting family in the area. We had a big table and they did brilliantly at getting all the food out tasting good and hot.The dessert were extremely good but the size differed greatly. It almost seemed like they were trying squeeze more desserts out of the stock they had. I would have preferred them to have offered constantly good sized desserts like 3/4 of the table had. However all in all the food was really good and the service was brilliant.I hope to return next time we are in the area.

Whilst staying at Belton Woods and having a search for places to eat we came across The Royal Oak. This place really is a hidden gem. We chose to have fillet steak which came with all the trimmings. Absolutely delicious. Cooked to perfection. And you must add the side order of onion rings, they are huge and taste super. We only found the Royal Oak during the last 3 days of our holiday but managed to get in 2 visits. Was well worth the 25 minute trip. We cannot wait until we come back up north!

Really nice local pub with great food and good staff. A reasonable choice of food and the service was good. The food came out really quickly. We were offered all the compliments and they came back to check a table regularly. The new owners are terrific fun and work really hard, sometimes grey late, to provide an excellent experience for an English pub

We booked this hotel for a one night stay and due to circumstances added another two nights. This was an excellent find. Situated in a small village which is easiest to access from A151 and in quiet location, The rooms are adjacent to the hotel but this posed no problem at all. The food was first class and beautifully presented - good choice and reasonably priced, Good choice of drink too with local brews available to try. The room very comfortable with tea/coffee facilities and biscuits. The breakfast was very good although did not have a full breakfast which was on offer. We ate here each night and enjoyed what we had and also tried the desserts and again not disappointed. We will definitely stay here again. Thanks Lads for an enjoyable time at this old worldy Hotel/Pub

We saw the reviews for this pub and decided to check it out we were so glad we did. A very old quaint place but had lovely food and the owner was very friendly. When the bill arrived it was a lovely surprise as it was just under £120 for 4 of us, we all had a 3 course meal a bottle of presecco plus extra wine and beers. Someone had asked the owner if he could play his guitar and sing a bit which he did it was really spontaneous and lovely. Worth a visit .

Local produce used in the kitchen which made all the difference that and the fact it was cooked to perfection. I also stayed the night in a very comfortable bed and all the facilities you could ask for.
