The York in Islington

The best pub in Islington - it’s like being in the best house party ever which also features amazing music, and the loveliest owners. Really makes it all come together, the loveliest service and square outside to sit and drink - it’s like being in Paris only with a much lovelier vibe. We’ll come back over and over for Magda and Clare!

Warm and welcoming pub. Was busy, but we didn't have to wait too long for our food. The food was exceptional. It was cooked really well and lovingly presented. Staff were friendly and attentive too. Will definitely return.

After a long day out in Islington with my family, we stumbled upon The York Public House. Greeted at the door with a smile from a young lad called Sam, who ended up serving us the majority of the night. Sam and another tall blonde lad (I think his names Frazer) made sure we were okay and really looked after us. Massive shoutout to those two. The food and service was excellent and the family orientated atmosphere really allowed for myself and the kids to enjoy our experience. Both Sam and Frazer were incredible with our two young children making them laugh and ensuring they were okay throughout the course of the evening. Overall a lovely experience and a perfect hosting from Sam and Frazer, they both were exceptional and deserve the upmost plaudits for their time and effort!

Food is amazing, and the staff are lovely! Really enjoy every time I go in there for a drink :)

Proper London pub, brilliant prices , attentive staff and amazing atmosphere. Here for the Easter Weekend and wouldn't want to be anywhere else 🙂 Highly recommend!

My local, fantastic real pub atmosphere, great staff brilliant beers especially the real ales, amazing to be able to maintain the feel of a traditional real pub in an area full of renovated pubs trying to create the same ambience but failing badly.

Tony was an exceptionally good host this evening. We came in for a pint after the cinema and he was really welcoming.

Terrible service, came after my work at a food bank for a single pint and was told that we were too drunk Ridiculous considering half, or more, of the patrons inside were in a very much more drunk state

Came in here on Saturday and Sunday for St Patrick’s weekend as we are staying in London. Love, love, LOVE this pub!!! All of the staff are uber friendly, it’s a really cool old building with plenty of character. Definitely worth a visit if you’re looking for a real English pub. Fabulous Guinness too and the Steak & Ale pie was DELISH!! We’ll be back when we’re next in London. Thank you for helping us have a “Craic”!!

Visited the The York while I was visiting The Estorick Gallery with some visiting Italian friends. Lovely old pub, great ambience. Had a few Peroni and some lunch,both excellent. Staff were extremely helpful and gracious which is rare in some London pubs. Anyway highly recommend

Ordered a plant burger - which was more than £16, a similar price to the other burgers- but it didn’t come with fries/chips, only a salad. Hardly any food for that price, was a bit of a rip off. The menu also didn’t make clear that the veggie burger didn’t come with chips, and when I asked I was informed that the chips aren’t vegetarian so that’s why they weren’t included. Please make it clearer on the menu as I wouldn’t have paid that much for just a burger plus I was hungry! Also, I ordered a lime+soda (£2) and it arrived half full. For a soft drink that’s just a splash of cordial, not great value and would expect my glass to be full at least.

Popped by with some clients after a meeting at Islington Business Design Centre….great pub with a charming old school character….very nice ambiance…old school but not staid….Peroni was served clean and sharp (unusual in Central London). Staff were very courteous…(Syd/ Sidney )and relaxed….had some bar snacks which were pretty good The manager was doing a shift in the kitchen…love that. Do you know what…I’ll be back

This pub is the WORST. Overly aggressive / jobsworth bouncer who when I tried to enter asked me where I was going. Err.. to have a drink? Then when I left shortly after, walked after me and told me I was barred X). Might be on a power trip. Can’t speak for whoever else works there, I’m sure they’re alright, but whoever runs this pub, this guy is probably halving your trade by the airport-style questioning.

The meal and venue suited us perfectly for a pre-meeting lunch, and the food was served promptly. The extent to which I would recommend it to others would depend on their reasons for seeking a drink or meal and the occasio0n.

Our first evening in London, we decided to go here to watch a futbol match.

Of course, going to London and having a Spanish beer leaves you speechless. In any case, tasty, with an amber and sweet aftertaste.

Sorry Claire my initial review I accidentally put on thee Villiers not the York. Claire and the excellent team provided me with a fantastic birthday celebration & a spectacular afternoon. An era was arranged for around 30 friends to gather together & still be apart of the bar. I had ordered a variety of buffet platters which were provided at intervals in the area set aside for my friends to help themselves, the food was very tasty, which my friends conveyed to the Claire. Some of my friends whom live out of the city said how they loved the friendly atmosphere of the pub immediately as they walked in sensing the warm, friendly welcoming feel & embraced as though they had been regulars returning. I recommend this local pub, it is divers in its customers and very much part of this community. Keep going guys..

Traditional pub at Angel that gets really crowded at popular times. It's a good place to watch sport or (ideally in nice weather) sit outside and watch the world go by. They have a good range of beers.

This is a traditional pub just yards away from Angel tube. We all found that the bar staff were friendly, the service was quick and the place was spotlessly clean. I was here to meet up with some of my old colleagues from when I used to work in the area. I enjoyed the wine that I had, and the guys enjoyed their beers. Some of us also had food there and the fish finger sandwich with fries that I had was very nice and the other food looked good too. If I were in the area I would visit again.

One of my favourite pubs in Angel. Always friendly, efficient service. Never had a dud beer and the food always exceeds expectations.

My husband and I frequently pop into The York for a drink and always find the staff very helpful and lovely. The place is always lively but we also usually can find a spot to sit (earlier in the evening) which is great. Recently, I held a small surprise birthday gathering (approx 12 people) there for my husband and the staff went above and beyond to make it a great evening! They were very accomodating, helpful and just brilliant service over the whole course of the evening. We are so pleased this pub exists in Angel and look forward to many more evenings spent there. Thank you!

Decent pub in the heart of Angel - good for watching sport but it's quite small and can get very crowded. Lovely and traditional.

Been here twice now as a stop before skinny kitchen bottomless. Cocktails here are delicious, great for a quick stop off

Came in before lunch solid 8.5 out of 10 Guinness. Creamy, soft and settled well. Would recommend very easy to be served.

The York is the pub we always use when visiting the 02. It can get busy but the staff are always friendly and efficient. The menu, while not extensive is what you would expect - "pub grub" and the food is always good and delivered with the minimum of delay no matter how busy the bar is. If I had to sum up The York in a single word - Reliable

Lovely pub, awful food that looks palatable but tastes of nothing. Sandwiches are in floppy machine bought bread (advertised for Bavette Beef on menu as ‘toasted’). I’ll leave it up to you to discover what they call toasted. The said sandwich was so full of relish the meat element felt non existent. The Pie was doughy and the Fish/Finger Sandwich was flapping every time my friend put it to his mouth. I love eating and adore pub culture, but I left here feeling a little miserable. Have a beer and perhaps some chips. Eat elsewhere as there’s plenty of choice near Angel

This is a fantastic pub, only 200yds from Angel Tube, a great meeting place. We went for lunch and the menu was great, lots of dishes to choose from. Went for the chicken pie which was fantastic at a reasonable price, decent mash and veg. Staff are great and very attentive, lovely outdoor area to watch the Islington elite walk by if the weather permits.

Went a few weeks ago. Was served by young blonde man and red haired lady, never caught their names. Both were delightful. Drinks a little on the expensive side but it is Zone 1.

I took advantage of a Madri lager free pint promotion and was served by Calum, who was friendly and helpful and we had a nice chat. Although it was free, I felt under no pressure to spend anything. I saw how helpful he was with the public, from having chats to giving advice on cab ranks nearby. This is a lovely pub, very close to Angel tube. As a lone woman having a drink, I felt totally comfortable. Well worth a visit.
