The Crown Tavern in Islington

Crown Tavern is a hidden gem in Clerkenwell Green. It’s a place where you can feel right at home from the moment you walk in. The decor is charming and fits the history of the area, but it also has a modern twist. The food is amazing! Every dish is carefully made and tastes incredible. They have a lot of different options, so there’s something for everyone. Whether you’re in the mood for a hearty Sunday roast or some famous fish and chips, the food is fresh and delicious. I went there recently and was blown away by how well the food was made. The staff was also really friendly and helpful. They made me feel like I was a special guest. Crown Tavern is a must-visit for anyone who loves good food and a warm atmosphere. Whether you’re just looking for a quick bite or a special dinner, you’re sure to have a great time.

Only had drinks there. Lakki was amazing and the drinks he made were mind blowing. He was very polite and extremely quick to take order and deliver the same.

Went to the pub quiz, had a lovely time, great host and food can be ordered at the table with a QR code if wanted, and it was great pub food!

What to say about The Crown Tavern? It’s just the best pub in Clerkenwell/Farringdon!!! Staff are so lovely, and they have the most adorable pub dog, name Dave! Food is delicious, specially the Sunday Roast… Pork Belly is a win win for sure! A must place to visit, for sure, if you around Farringdon! ;)

lovely pub, good food, just super expensive! pints are on the high end seven pounds / some going over the eight pound mark. completely would understand if it was in soho, or the city, but a tucked away pub in clerkenwell shouldn't be that expensive :(

The male bartender doesn’t seem to like Americans…..my wife and I on our first visit to London asked to be seated he responded I don’t care where you sit in a very condescending tone.

We attended a party for a teenager. The upstairs room was comfortable, attractively decorated and ideal for a party of about 35/40. The tapas was delicious, particularly the calamari which was also gluten free (allergies catered for). Prices were reasonable - it is London after all. Staff were efficient, friendly and charming. A friend of mine had been recently and highly recommended it.

I'm so surprised by the good reviews for this place. I am thinking we must just have caught it on a bad day. We booked for sunday lunch. We ordered bread and olives to share for starters, four roast dinners and some drinks. We received nothing for nearly 30 minutes despite the pub not being busy. Then we received three roasts, bread and olives. By that time of course we didn't want the starters, but my husband was minus a lunch and so he was glad of the bread whilst he waited an additional 15 minutes. We asked for sauces to go with our roasts (apple sauce to go with the pork, cranberry sauce to go with the chicken). They had neither of these. We were brought an opened jar of apple jelly which had a layer of mould on top of it. When I asked for it to be replaced, the waiter brought over an opened jar of mint sauce. Which is odd, because lamb is not on the menu. As for the roasts, they were not bad actually, although for the price I do expect a home made yorkshire pudding, and properly cooked vegetables. And I don't expect to pay an additional £5 for five tiny pigs in blankets. We did get an apology for the dreadful service, but they didn't take the service charge off the bill. I would have done that myself, but I didn't want to make a fuss.

Great venue for a pub meal with an outdoor area in the square, perfect on this sunny day. Food menu was varied and interesting and catered for our vegetarian friend. Sirena and her staff provided outstanding service and a bit of local info as well. Thanks for a wonderful lunch. Highly recommended 😀

Staff were brilliant and hugely helpful to me and my little lad. Dog friendly too. You can't account for folks though - saw some (fresh) toenail clippings on the carpet 🤢. That aside though a great lunch or break stop on a sunny day.

We had a nice quietish table upstairs which was good- downstairs was busy and noisy. Food was good. Prices are now a bit pricey/ but that’s probably central London now.

I visited this fascinating pub in preparation for leading a London History Tours (@londonhistorytours) walk around Clerkenwell. It was wonderful to see so much history on display in the pub, including about the Apollo Theatre which operated upstairs and the spot under the "conspirators clock" where Lenin and Stalin had a meeting. The staff were super friendly and the beer selection was good. I shall certainly return on future tours!

I love this pub! It's nicely set back from the main roads so you can sit outside (when there's a table free!) and have a nice cold beer and chat with friends. The drinks selection is great and the staff are always smiling and happy to help. Good menu and I'm always spoilt for choice. Keep up the good work guys 😃

After a day visiting London it is the perfect place to have any type of beer as they have an incredible variety, a fantastic atmosphere, and lovely staff especially Rúben and Simon. Highly recommended.

Lovely food and drinks. Ruben was very hospitable. We had the schnitzel which was tasty and came with a lovely salad. The pink grapefruit spritz was particularly tasty.

I visited the Crown Tavern to have lunch out in the sun. I was served by beautiful kind staff and enjoyed a lovely duck salad.

Had a family event in the beautiful upstairs room, yesterday. Lovely afternoon, with great food (the chef is a total professional who came in to double check on one person who is lactose/gluten intolerant). Really helpful, on-the ball staff, who couldn't have been more accommodating. Top venue.

Great pub in Clerkenwell with a good space outside should you rather enjoy your beers in the sun (weather permitting, of course). There are a good range of beers on tap and a food menu with that boasts a prawn, chorizo and feta dish on the same plate - bizarrely, it works 😃

Fab bar staff, especially Sirina who makes you feel like you are in her own home. We visit here most Monday lunchtimes for a pint of Pepsi and a good chat. It is always nice as the bar staff remember you, ask how you are and generally want to take very good care of you while you visit. We haven't eaten here but the menu does have a nice variety and the plates that go out look appetising and seem to return empty!

I'm lucky enough to come to The Crown Tavern regularly both for work and for fun. It has such a nice vibe. In the summer it's great to sit outside and in winter find yourself a snug corner. Always great food and a good selection of drinks to be had. Special mention must go to Serena who is always such a delight and out of her way to make sure everything is better than okay.

Booked our summer team lunch here today. From start to finish the team looked after us so well. Food was gorgeous, drinks yummy, Dave the dog excellent! Great atmosphere and great selection of drinks both alcoholic and soft. They take allergies really seriously too. Absolutely recommend for.your functions.

Fantastic local pub , steeped in history. Great range of food and drinks on offer . Friendly and helpful staff. Large canopied patio to front in clerkenwell green , ideal for relaxing in the afternoon sun. Also lots of canopied seating for when it gets too hot. Dog friendly too! Don’t miss the Clock room !

Lovely traditional pub dining and atmosphere. Original interior with lots of history between the walls that staff can tell you about. Plenty of seating space in the historic square.

Good place to grab a beer when the sun is out. However, we all got the cheeseburger last night and it was awful. A very small and very burnt patty. It was the size of a children’s meal. Wouldn’t recommend eating here, would recommend having a beer here.

Popular place with a traditional pub vibe, and also a nice large sidewalk terrace, which is a real oasis on a nice day. When I say popular, I mean it can get absolutely wall-to-wall crowded after business hours, but that's part of the vibe! Just had some minor nibbles for food, which were competent if not spectacular. You can order at the bar or directly from the table on your phone, which is nice if you're wrapped up in conversation, or don't want to navigate the high-density crowd. Service is decently quick and friendly either way.

I trully loved this place but the main reason why my experience here was amazing was due to the manager Rúben. His kind smile and gentle word always willing to help and give advise made me feel at home in London. I recommend the crown tavern, but I recommend Rúben even more. Thank you!

The atmosphere on a Thursday is quite busy, you might have to queue, but there’s a great place to stand outside. Even though there’s hundreds of people the bar staff still remembered our drinks, and ZOE was amazing! Not only this she noticed someone pushed in front and brought me to the front of the queue. Felt like a really personal touch - lovely team.

The best pub, the best atmosphere, and the best service I've ever had. As soon as I arrived I was immediately welcomed by Rúben. A friendliness and a big smile that made us feel very welcome. He suggested a great wine for us and we loved the recommendations he gave for us to eat. A very pleasant environment, perfect for a group of friends or even coming alone. Staff are lovely whenever I go in and the food is excellent. Garden is boiling in the sun and full of kids. A plus or a minus depending on your view!

Really enjoyed the pub. Have visited before just for drinks but this was the first time we had lunch. There were 17 of us and we were in the upstairs dining room. Food was good but I wouldn’t say it was fantastic. Staff could be a bit more cheerful. While most of the group ordered dessert on the app there was no way I could request the Brownie without the caramel sauce so when I asked the member of staff if i could make my order through I was told I would have to wait at least 15 minutes so I didn’t bother.

Disappointing experience. I went there on a Sunday evening and when I asked to try one of the guest draughts the bartender just poured me the pint. But the time I'd noticed, it was half poured, when I pointed it out to her she didn't offer to give me a try instead so I reluctantly paid for it anyway. However it turned out that the pub closed 15 minutes after I ordered and no one told me this. To me this it's basic pub etiquette not too expect a customer to drink a pint in a quarter of an hour so this was a fairly disappointing experience. There are better places to go for a beer in the area. Avoid this chain pub (part of Mitchell and Butler's group) and choose an independent pub where service is better and you are welcomed and valued.

A real gem in the area with friendly staff and lots of food and drink options. Spacious sitting and standing space, an outdoor beer garden and cozy listed interior. Great for large gatherings and special occasions.

We had such a great time at The Crown at our 2022 Christmas party we went back again this year - and weren't disappointed! Delicious food, friendly service, reasonable prices and a lovely, cheerful, comfortable pub. Thoroughly recommend.

We had our annual friends Christmas party in the Apollo Room and the day couldn’t have been more perfect. The staff were great, particular shout out to Simon who was a legend and ran the bar for us. Everyone enjoyed the food and we were impressed that it all came out hot - not easy with 36 people to serve! We had such a great day at The Crown Tavern and would highly recommend booking here if you are planning an event. Thanks to the team, we hope you have a great Christmas and New Year!

We went there after walking for hours in the cold rain, and fortunately there was a free table in the evening. The bar staff was friendly and welcoming. The place was dimmed and had Christmas lights on, the heating was very welcomed. The place is cosy and the chairs are comfy. We tried to order a few things but they didn't have at least 2 items on the menu so we just all went with fish & chips with some cider. We gobbled it up pretty fast and sat there all satisfied. A lady came to take our plates later, very friendly and animated. Loved the vibes over all. Would recommend and would return :)

Not impressed. Sat at table drinking for three hours then told table is reserved from in ten minutes time. Asked to leave. Been coming here for years to meet on a Saturday every couple of months. Current staff couldn't care. Moving to a Tavern quite close.
