The Crown Tavern in Islington

I went to the Crown Tavern with a mate last night, and it was such a great atmosphere! The staff were great, especially Sirena (hopefully that's how it's spelt), and who's one of those rare gems you get to meet in life. Friendly, funny, and honest! Great place and I'd recommend anyone to visit the Tavern.

Busy, cost pub. Great location. Limited alcohol free choices though. Clean toilets and plenty of seating.

Heck. Contribute or no, nice to be back in here again, this pub, after a few years now, let's be honest. Price of beer has gone in between times. £6.30 for a pint of Suffolk cask ale today. Very tasty, it is what it is! Beautiful sunny day too. Winter sun. Not as cold as it has been, thank God.

We’ve rented the Apollo room upstairs for our baby shower for about 50 people! Everything went as good as it could! Lovely place, beautiful atmosphere! Vicky and Chris did an amazing job running it very smoothly.

Amazing location, some of the best service ever received! Some taps change on rotation so there is almost always something new to try.

We were really satisfied with the food (excellent burgers) and the drink! Very kind staff.

This was my work local for 7 years pre-covid. I visited yesterday afternoon with some clients/colleages and I'm pleased to say it's even better now. We had great friendly service, tasty food and even the prices were good value. It's a shame I haven't been for almost 5 years - I won't be leaving it that long again.

I was disappointed to find that this "dog-friendly" establishment seems to favor certain dogs—particularly the landlord's off-leash and rather aggressive one. Unfortunately, my leashed Westie was recently attacked, and instead of any accountability, I was met with a rather hostile response from the bulldog’s owner , who insisted his dog had every right to behave that way since this was "his home" as he owns the place. While I truly appreciate the kindness of the staff, I’ll be choosing to support other places for now—ones that prioritize the safety and comfort of all their patrons and their dogs. It’s unfortunate that what should have been a relaxed Sunday drink with a friend whom I haven't seen for years, turned into such an unpleasant experience. Thankfully, there are plenty of other welcoming spots in the area that I am looking forward to explore and support.

I love the traditional pubs and it’s got such character and the surroundings were lovely. We had booked for Sunday roast for 5 of us. We had drinks and was recommended the pork belly can I say thank you for recommending it because it was delicious. We will definitely return

Sirina is awesome. Had my leaving drinks here. She looked after us, made sure we were taken care of. 20 of us here, 4 hours later and she is still looking after us!! She is amazing!!!

We come to the pub quiz here often and love it! The food is good and the quiz is a really fun evening. It is a great spot for after work with reasonable prices (although a Diet Coke for £4 is less reasonable…)

My family and I are on holiday from Perth, Western Australia and we stumbled across this wonderful establishment on the way back from the local train station. The food, atmosphere and customer service were just amazing! Such friendly, welcoming staff, especially Serena, who has the most amazing laugh I've ever heard. She made my 10 year old son a couple of raspberry cordials which I believe is not on the menu and just made us feel so welcome. The same goes for the rest of the staff - everyone is smiling and happy. The food was lovely too. The whole combination of the above deserves the highest of praise and there are many places in Perth that could learn a thing or two about the high level customer engagement at The Crown Tavern. We found our local!

An excellent pub, I came with some friends for work drinks and had a lovely time. Great food and selection of drinks. The staff were charming and very helpful, in particular Xavier, who’s industriousness was herculean.

Had a lovely evening, we were able to order food and drinks upstairs, been before and wasn't able to do this, so it made a great change, Xavier behind the bar was excellent.

The team was looking after us excellently. Our allergies were taken seriously and if food was arriving late we got an apology and explanation. We have enjoyed our Christmas lunch very much, will return!

We often go to The Crown for drinks after work and when we found out they were doing Christmas dinners, we booked straight away. So happy we did, what an amazing night. Rueben, Chris and the team were super efficient, in total control of the organisation with the food and drinks. The food was a hit with all our team! Booked the festive Christmas lunch for friends annual catchup. Had a fantastic time, the service was prompt and friendly. The food was of high quality, our requests for extra gravy or for Yorkshire puddings were all accommodated - without any hassle. Will definitely mark this in my favourites for London!

On a very busy night the pub was bustling with early Christmas party groups but our small gathering of 4 people were made incredibly welcome and given especially attentive and generous service by the staff, in particular Ruben. Very nice food, lovely red wine and we were glad that we had chosen Crown Tavern.

We hosted a business lunch event in the Apollo Room today. The service was amazing and the room was decorated so christmassy! Great food, service and atmosphere. Massive kudos to chef Zoe and front of house Reuben for looking after us so well and especially to Zoe who managed to give us great food even though there was no gas due to a fault. She was outstanding!

We booked the Clock Room on the ground floor for a Class of 81 school reunion dinner. Ordered the Platinum buffet and ran a tab for the drinks. The food was plentiful (I have had buffets elsewhere where the food ran out quickly) and good quality. A good mix for omnivores, pescatarians, vegetarians and vegans. It was nice and easy to settle the bill afterwards. I checked the total, then divided it by the number of participants, then each person settled their share. No problems or drama at all. The staff were good humoured and helpful, and took all the obligatory group photographs for us too. We booked the Crown Tavern because it is near Farringdon Station, which is very convenient for nearly all London terminus stations and airports. The fact that the evening was a really good experience - drinking, dining and socialising (buffet format means everyone can speak to everyone) was a huge bonus. We will come here again.

Only had drinks there. Lakki was amazing and the drinks he made were mind blowing. He was very polite and extremely quick to take order and deliver the same.

What to say about The Crown Tavern? It’s just the best pub in Clerkenwell/Farringdon!!! Staff are so lovely, and they have the most adorable pub dog, name Dave! Food is delicious, specially the Sunday Roast… Pork Belly is a win win for sure! A must place to visit, for sure, if you around Farringdon! ;)

lovely pub, good food, just super expensive! pints are on the high end seven pounds / some going over the eight pound mark. completely would understand if it was in soho, or the city, but a tucked away pub in clerkenwell shouldn't be that expensive :(

The male bartender doesn’t seem to like Americans…..my wife and I on our first visit to London asked to be seated he responded I don’t care where you sit in a very condescending tone.

I'm so surprised by the good reviews for this place. I am thinking we must just have caught it on a bad day. We booked for sunday lunch. We ordered bread and olives to share for starters, four roast dinners and some drinks. We received nothing for nearly 30 minutes despite the pub not being busy. Then we received three roasts, bread and olives. By that time of course we didn't want the starters, but my husband was minus a lunch and so he was glad of the bread whilst he waited an additional 15 minutes. We asked for sauces to go with our roasts (apple sauce to go with the pork, cranberry sauce to go with the chicken). They had neither of these. We were brought an opened jar of apple jelly which had a layer of mould on top of it. When I asked for it to be replaced, the waiter brought over an opened jar of mint sauce. Which is odd, because lamb is not on the menu. As for the roasts, they were not bad actually, although for the price I do expect a home made yorkshire pudding, and properly cooked vegetables. And I don't expect to pay an additional £5 for five tiny pigs in blankets. We did get an apology for the dreadful service, but they didn't take the service charge off the bill. I would have done that myself, but I didn't want to make a fuss.

We attended a party for a teenager. The upstairs room was comfortable, attractively decorated and ideal for a party of about 35/40. The tapas was delicious, particularly the calamari which was also gluten free (allergies catered for). Prices were reasonable - it is London after all. Staff were efficient, friendly and charming. A friend of mine had been recently and highly recommended it.

Great venue for a pub meal with an outdoor area in the square, perfect on this sunny day. Food menu was varied and interesting and catered for our vegetarian friend. Sirena and her staff provided outstanding service and a bit of local info as well. Thanks for a wonderful lunch. Highly recommended 😀

Staff were brilliant and hugely helpful to me and my little lad. Dog friendly too. You can't account for folks though - saw some (fresh) toenail clippings on the carpet 🤢. That aside though a great lunch or break stop on a sunny day.

We had a nice quietish table upstairs which was good- downstairs was busy and noisy. Food was good. Prices are now a bit pricey/ but that’s probably central London now.

I visited this fascinating pub in preparation for leading a London History Tours (@londonhistorytours) walk around Clerkenwell. It was wonderful to see so much history on display in the pub, including about the Apollo Theatre which operated upstairs and the spot under the "conspirators clock" where Lenin and Stalin had a meeting. The staff were super friendly and the beer selection was good. I shall certainly return on future tours!

I love this pub! It's nicely set back from the main roads so you can sit outside (when there's a table free!) and have a nice cold beer and chat with friends. The drinks selection is great and the staff are always smiling and happy to help. Good menu and I'm always spoilt for choice. Keep up the good work guys 😃

Lovely food and drinks. Ruben was very hospitable. We had the schnitzel which was tasty and came with a lovely salad. The pink grapefruit spritz was particularly tasty.

After a day visiting London it is the perfect place to have any type of beer as they have an incredible variety, a fantastic atmosphere, and lovely staff especially Rúben and Simon. Highly recommended.

Had a family event in the beautiful upstairs room, yesterday. Lovely afternoon, with great food (the chef is a total professional who came in to double check on one person who is lactose/gluten intolerant). Really helpful, on-the ball staff, who couldn't have been more accommodating. Top venue.
