Well.. I won’t be visiting here again after my poor experience with the staff. I regularly visit here with my family and we have never had any issues with the service. Tonight was appalling from start to finish. We had our waiter come over to our table to take our order which we had to repeat 3 times because she kept forgetting what we said. They sat us down in a booth when I needed a highchair for our 2 year old. When I asked them if they could move one table the man who moved the table was huffing and didn’t seem happy to move this but we had 3 tables put together and nowhere for the highchair to go. We then got left until we asked 55 minutes in to see where our starters are and how long they’d be. The girl who we asked was lovely, she politely asked the new male waiter to go see how long the food would be. We then got an abrupt answer from him at the corner of the table as he popped his head round and said “shouldn’t be too long” and walked off really fast. We then were very taken back by that as the communication was very poor and didn’t see professional. The girl waiter seen his communication and then said “did he actually check for you?”. I said “not sure it was rude how he just spoke to us” she then said she will go find out how much longer we had to wait. The 2 young girl waiters are very polite and was just trying to help as we was getting fobbed off and no proper communication was given to us. When the new waiter came back to the table, I explained that he was very abrupt and rude when he came to the table the first time, he then said he was sorry and he wanted to just clarify with the chef what was happening, which we then said it was fine no problem. He then continued to say “I’m sorry” then leaning down into our face and then touched my arm. Which I told him to not touch me please, my partner said it was fine after he apologised around 6 times as the waiter kept on standing there saying “I’m sorry”. Then my partner was getting frustrated as he’s already told the waiter “no problem it’s fine” around 5/6 times.My 2 year old girl was getting unsettled as we have never waited 1 hour and 15 minutes for the starters to come out - however they still wasn’t ready. The male who seated us at the table and then took our drink order straight away came over to tell us that the food still was not ready just the pizza and chips but the kebab we ordered will still take longer (barring in mind we ordered 1 hour 15 minutes) .. we then explained we no longer wanted to wait due to the lack of communication with staff telling us the food will be 2/3 minutes. We have never had a problem with the restaurant before this and we do regularly come as we cannot fault the food. The food is always 10/10 no complaints with the food. However tonight was appalling. We just wanted good communication with the staff not every staff member needed to go and check how long the food were going to be. When we decided to leave after the man came over and explained about the food still not being ready - we then said this has never happened before the restaurant was full when we arrived and now we are leaving it is empty much so. Everyone seemed to eat and leave and we were still sat waiting for our food with no communication it was always back and forth. We told the man to cancel the food and we will just go home as my 2 year old was getting unsettled and the communication was poor with the staff members or should I say the 2 male staff. We told the man we will pay for the drinks and then just go, he then said which I found confusing that he will mark it was a “walk out” and call the police. That’s when we got really shocked because we said we will pay for the drinks we never said we wouldn’t we said we ain’t paying for the food if it’s still not ready. My partner went to then go pay - as leaving I had told the man we will not be visiting again because of how rude the staff are. We never have any problems when the lady is working (she has red hair and speaks with an accent) she is very lovely and always is very polite.

Been hearing some good reviews from friends so thought I would give it a try with my dad who has gluten dietary issues so they had 2 separate menus which helped us out I went for the pork belly while dad went for the steak the service was fine yes there was a little wait but that was worth the wait when the food came out the presentation was something new for me but got the thumbs up same with dads steak . The taste of the food didn’t disappoint either the pork just was cooked perfectly with all the fancy herbs plus fancy potatoes to go on the plate it was a very satisfying meal so we hope to call back soon plus the log fire burning had a nice calming effect the service was spot on if there was any slight issue the food quality was banging .

Good service. I ordered the piri piri chicken hanging kebab. Really nice meal. My only negative is the fries I ordered with it were very over cooked but tasty. We will be going again.

My third visit since ego took over and was hoping it would be third time lucky. Not so. Bland food, bland service. Ordered from the lunch menu. Fish cakes were bland and looked like they were straight out of the freezer. I’ve had better supermarket ones. My daughter wasn’t impressed with her steak either. Nothing special and a bit boring was the overall verdict. We loved the old Wyke Lion. The decor is nice but food is nothing special. With so many nicer eateries locally I’m surprised there’s any repeat business here. Sadly I won’t be back.

Lovely food and friendly, reliable service

Thoroughly enjoyed our evening there. Food was excellent, vegan option was good as well , though o was disappointed they’d sold out of cauliflower steak. Ethan the waiter was very attentive and efficient.

Called in on a Sunday lunch today on our way home from a Christmas break and the staff were very welcoming and accommodating. We hadn’t booked but they found us a table even though we just fancied a drink. However the smell of Sunday dinners tempted us but we couldn’t have eaten a full roast dinner so we’re thrilled to be able to just order sides. We had Yorkshire pud with pigs in blankets and gravy…or ‘A Yorkshire Tapas’ 😁 Really scrummy and obviously home made Yorkshires. Although not near home for us we would deffo recommend and call in if passing.

Called in for the first time in years, staff were very welcoming and fast with the drinks. The food was amazing and fresh. Really nice and relaxing atmosphere.

Grate food lovely atmosphere nice place and pleasant staff. Just let down with slow service . We where are large table of 10, starts came all at once with 4 servers. Mains however came 2 at once with a single server by the time all mains where served the 1st to be served were cold

It was freezing cold, no heating on. Had to wait 1 hrs 20 mins for food. Kleftico very fatty. Some people had cold potatoes and other food. Small portion of paella. Not worth the money. No-one advising of reason for delay. Service poor.

This is an incredible pub/restaurant with the incredible food and fantastic drinks options. The setting is a lovely traditional pub look with open fires and amazing furnishings and decor. Would highly recommend a visit here.

I just called in to have a pint of John Smith's as I enjoy the smooth taste. I was highly disappointed. My first impression was it looked thin, and when I tasted it, it was so obviously watered down. I'm not the kind of person who usually complains, but I hate to be ripped off.

Waited far too long food. Sunday lunch was not good . Big hard potatoes. No flavour whatsoever. Stuffing was awful . Little round thing like a 10 pence piece that didn't taste very nice. Very watery gravy. A rather tasteless Sunday roast .

I'm not one to complain and didn't want to put the service staff through it either, but stingy doesn't quite cut it. Dropped in tonight for a Sunday roast, £20.95 for 2 courses - on the steep side but not unreasonable considering the surroundings. On entry at 6:30 told there was no Yorkshire pudding left, but I could have extra roast potato. Fine. Decided to go for the trio of meat, at an extra £4, spoil myself. What arrived was incredible: 1 large potato worth of roasts, one carrot, 1 parsnip, a handful of green beans, and the smallest slices of beef, chicken and pork I've ever seen. Seriously doubt they would weigh even 50g worth of protein. This "meal" would have come to the price for the two courses if I didn't get the dessert, but honestly I was still hungry so asked for rhubarb crumble. Substantial serving but again the ice cream was a tiny scoop which was gone with over half the crumble remaining. Nice staff and nice enough food, but portioning was so disappointing I don't think I'll be returning.

Waitress was very abrupt which I didn't appreciate food was ok not enough on menu no change since it opened and told no more Sunday lunches when we arrived to say it was Sunday you would expect not to hear that ? Won't be going back in a hurry.

Went with my partner Thursday 22nd August for kebab night,, lovely food, friendly and helpful staff.. lovely atmosphere and modern decor.. we had a lovely evening and will go again most definitely..

Disgusted by the attitude of the staff here, walked in having already seen ample bookings available online to then having what looked like a manager and another girl look at us, smirk then say tell them it’s fully booked. I saw snd heard this then they went to bar man and told them he can’t serve us. Racist comes to mind

We have been to today for the two course Sunday Dinner, the meat was perfect and the veg was beautiful. I thought I was going to have to be rolled back to the car! We'll definitely back and will highly recommend to friends and family.

Called in yesterday Wednesday with a friend and was amazed to find special offer 2 dine for £30. We had 2 courses and food was very nice and normal size portions. The place is very clean and service was excellent 👌

What very enjoyable Ladies lunch... seems we made an excellent choice. We chose the Wednesday 2 for 30 menu, food was excellent nicely served fresh hot and very tasty. 2 pâté served with plentiful toast and a fresh tomato soup of the day 3chicken milanase with skinny fries and salad and a chicken supreme that came with gnocchi,leek,pea and mushroom sauce. Service was attentive,informative and very pleasant. Liked the decor and modern update this pub/restaurant has been given will definitely return.

Have the pizza….. all the other food is poor mass produced. We have visited both here and Ego in Kenilworth Warwickshire…. Both the same.

Exactly what I expected from all my other experiences from other Egos. Overpriced mass produced Sunday lunches. Out of the 6 of us, only the pizza was decent. I have never chosen to eat at Ego restaurants because so far, none can produce fresh food. The food is always cool, dry, lacking attention , etc. I will say, however, the staff are ALWAYS FRIENDLY and WELCOMING.

The first few times we went the meals were very good but last time the steak was very tough.

My friend and I went on the 24th April 24, the place looks lovely with friendly staff, but the soup and mains were for young children, the portions were so small, don't recommend you order 2 courses for £22, we came out hungry

Choice of two menus. Not a vintage Inn any more. A Mediterranean menu. Good food. A good discount on one of the menus at a very good price for two course's and a bottle of wine. Will go here again

Has been a popular pub with good meals for years under Vintage Inns and now rebranded as Ego and is more upmarket and has been re-vamped to a high standard. The full waiter service is excellent. Excellent food and reasonably priced.

Went here for a meal Friday 5/4, it’s the first time we’ve been, and will definitely be returning, the food was lovely, although slightly too much oil on the salad.. but that’s just my taste.. the young man who served us was extremely nice, attentive and polite, I think he was called Aidan, he needs a pay rise

Well going in their on you like a rash service is good But when paid and your leaving even though you leave a tip No thank you or good by so will give it a miss next time leaving is like you have not been there

Bit disappointed to be honest, food was average at best and having pre ordered the service wasn’t that quick. Drinks were extortionate and £10 for a medium glass of wine is too much! Not sure we’ll be rushing back.

Visited for the first time since it changed to Ego. Pleasantly surprised by the new look and quality of the meal. It made a change to go out for a meal that was full of flavour rather than a bland prepacked reheat meal. We got what we paid for, a quality meal. Prix Fixe menu is good value for money.

Still getting to grips with being a new place. Better than the disappointing Christmas visit but food still not great. Wakefield outlet is better but is longer established

Delicious food Great service, nothing was too much trouble

Walking into the restaurant, everything looked good, nice atmosphere and the fire kept it lovely and warm. We were seated on a slope which felt right in the middle of everybody's walkway although I do sympathise with this on a needs must basis. Fish cake and king prawn starter were really nice but hummus was missing the dukka. Two out of three of the mains arrived, however we waited far too long for the third dish to arrive. I ordered the Moroccan lamb which originally came cold, this was rectified but the couscous can only resemble a bland lumpy porridge. Other main course was king prawn linguine which was in fact spaghetti, missing the rocket and tasted of nothing. We were booked in for 8pm and had been there roughly 50min or so when the place seemed to go quiet, can't help that but turning the fire off and cleaning tables around us, again sat right in the middle, made us feel rushed to leave. We ordered dessert anyway and this was probably my most baffling experience of the day. As you see from the photo attached, who in their right mind decided that serving Eton mess that looked like vomit in a martini glass was a good idea? Update: restaurant quick to reply to negative reviews as seen below but almost impossible to get a reasonable response from them. Would appear they comment just to counter the review but have no intention of looking into poor service

First time since the re-brand and I have to say it looks much better, more inviting. The food was delicious and the waitress was able to understand our sometimes very complicated order.. the service was second to none and I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone wanting a well cooked and served lunch

Had a pleasant time here. Efficient staff and very nice ambiance. We shared a garlic bread to start which was tasty. For the main I had sweetcorn and courgette fritters with a carrot salad and pomegranate seeds, this was very enjoyable. I can only give 4 stars though as the food did seem a bit pricey, especially if you have any side dishes which, in my opinion, are needed really. That said we enjoyed it here and will return. Ample parking.

Turned up on spec without booking but it was no problem to the friendly staff. Shown to a lovely table straight away. The food was amazing and to put icing on the cake we got 50% off our mains. This was our first time here but certainly won't be our last as lots of items on menu to try.

The new owners have improved everything here. The food was good though my medium/ rare steak was slightly overcooked. The service of the food was excellent, but drinks service needs improving. However, I and my party enjoyed the experience and we will go again.

Really enjoyed our Sunday lunch on our wedding anniversary. The roast beef was the best we'd had in a long time. The staff were attentive and friendly and worked really well as a team. Our dog was welcomed and not treated as a nuisance. We will be back!

Great dinner and lovely ambience

Visited Ego on Friday for my Mum's birthday and had a lovely meal with attentive and friendly service from Ethan and the team as a whole. Large drinks selection with some good alcohol-free options and all the food we had was lovely. A nice atmosphere and they really looked after my Mum on her birthday, definitely recommend signing up to the mailing list as the offer she received made the overall bill great value! Thank you :)

Excellent restaurant / pub and very friendly staff. Very comfy furnishings and snug and warm on a winters midweek evening. We both went for the sirloin steak which was delicious. Highly recommended
