We visited The Woolpack Inn whilst staying in Boot, we’ve been coming to the area for the past 3yrs and always wanted to eat at this pub. We were a large group of 11 and we booked a table for 5:30 as we had some young children, we wer3 meant by a great waitress who made us feel very welcome and suggested we order quickly before another big party arrive. We ordered 6 starters and 11 main meals and from this point is when it all starterd to go downhill. Starters arrived in a timely manner, all fine, then we waited a short while for the main meals to arrive.. We got 6 main meals but the remaining 5 never arrived until almost 30mins later in fact the people who got their meals had finished theirs before the remaining meals were brought out, despite us asking several times how much longer will they be. The food was mixed, some had the pizzas a which tasted good but lacked much topplng, two people had lobster which came burnt to a crisp on a mountain of chips! We decided to order desert and the same thing happened, half of them were brought out then a long wait for the remaining puddings which included cheesecake which surely just needs cutting and plating up. The final comical piece was an espresso served in a cup without a saucer. I don’t know what happened in the kitchen but it was such a disappointment.

After a great walk, we were running late to get back to Coniston for dinner, we decided to check out the menu after having a great beer here before the walk. Really surprised by the diversity of the menu and the great prices, my daughter had a wood fired fresh lobster and chips, I had a mutton and chorizo chilli with wild rice basmati and tzatziki, my husband ham egg and chips. All the food was really excellent and such great value. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Couldn’t recommend enough, great find!!

On a rainy miserable day we walked to the pub. We didn’t have any expectations, just a drink and bite to eat to rest our weary legs and get out of the rain. The staff were very friendly, the menu looked good, not your average pub grub. We opted for pizza and I ordered a starter of morecombe potted shrimp. The food all came together 3 x pizzas and the shrimp. I ate my pizza first as it was hot. The pizzas were delicious and fresh. I didn’t feel like the shrimp after, however, I ate it stuffing myself to the brim. The best morecombe potted shrimps I’ve had in a while. Met some other walkers and spent a lovely afternoon enjoying the company, the food and the drink. What’s not to like! Warm welcome, log fire, nice ambiance and not too steep with the prices. We will be back.

Called in here after a wild camp the night before. Ordered a pizza and some chips to share just to top us up before our drive back to Northumberland. Yum - the pizza is one of the nicest I’ve had for a long time. I ordered Brie, caramelised onions and pancetta. Would defo go back for the pizza. Even the chunky chips were gorgeous. I love it when places serve homemade chips as this makes all the difference (keep it up). We had coffee and tea and this was even served with a biscuit (nice touch). Lovely homely feel. We had popped in the previous day for a slice of orange cake too - very nice 😋 Will be back in the future for more of that pizza 🍕

Ate at the Woolpack on Sunday 10/09, and had a great Pig Burger. Top notch. Had a pint on the 11/09, and overheard a customer complimenting the steak and kidney pie. So tonight, 12/09, I ordered the pie, and the chef kindly said OK, even though it was a lunch item. The pie was actually a steak pastie, no kidney, but it did include 2 pieces of gristle. Very disappointing. One top meal, one very poor. Will still come back though, but will give the “pie” a miss. By the way, the draught Poretti is really good.

After a long journey from Cornwall including a blown tyre on the Hardknott Pass, we put our tent up in the pouring rain. We ventured out to find a pub and we were so pleased we found the Woolpack. Staff were welcoming and informed us that the kitchen was just about to close. We ordered quickly - my husband and I had steak which was beautifully cooked and absolutely delicious. My eldest had sausages and mash which he devoured (it's difficult to get him to eat anything so this was a welcome sight!). My 11 year old (self proclaimed "pizza connoisseur") wolfed down the Margarita Pizza saying it was the best pizza he'd had in his life. Extremely good value and a lovely atmosphere. Thank you for a lovely evening!

If you like to sample three different kinds of Camden (London) lager you'll be delighted with the offer at the Woolpack. If you'd like to taste and support local breweries you'll be less pleased, especially if you've gone because it's the Boot beer festival. The view from outside the Woolpack is all uphill, but it seems from within it's going very much on the downward slide. Such a shame.

We visited this pub a few years back and I loved it. It was my favourite pub. I was looking forward to going back during our stay in Eskdale this May. I was so disappointed, it felt like a business teetering on closure. It felt dirty and unloved. Flowers in vases on tables in stale water were dead, glasses piled high on tables. Service was poor. Plates not cleared away. Short staffed the menu in the evening was limited to pizza which took over 90 minutes to arrive. They were delicious though!! Intending to visit two nights we decided one was enough. We sampled The Boot Inn instead which was the absolute opposite end of the spectrum, felt like it great front of house. Felt like a loved family business. Spotless - excellent service - excellent menu. Great food. Could not fault it

After a day accidentally driving up and down Hardnott Pass then climbing the wrong mountain (not my fault we had no map and zero reception on our phone's 😬) and clocking up over 10 miles of terrain even Bear Grylls and Ray Mears would struggle with, we decided for the path of least resistance for much needed grub on the way out of this beautiful place. We quickly found a nice looking traditional kind’a place or places, 3 in one line all same gaff I think 🤔, where the menu stated fresh stone baked wood fired pizza’s 🍕, superb we thought quick easy food! At this stage we were walking like Lucious Lorna from Only Fans after a 24hour straight shift, so needed rest and feeding before the long journey home. Approaching the bar I heard them say to Emmanuel Macron’s twin brother it was an hour wait for food as they were a person down, fine by me as who knows where the next eatery is around here. We got some drinks and sat in the sun ☀️, time passed and we had another round of drinks, there were a few people but not that many, all waiting for food, now it takes 8 minutes to cook a pizza and a bit of prep time so I worked out an hour was generous. Waiting in the outside garden about 1 hour 30 mins in, it soon became apparent that we went for food but were actually becoming food…. Attack of the midges 🪰… Approx 2hr 15 mins in and 3 drinks later, my wife who was by now borderline paralytic after severe dehydration on the walk, asked if the food was any closer to arriving, she was told 8 minutes, by this time we were sat inside and not as hungry after swallowing approx 1 million midges, no apology or offer of a free drink or anything, the staff were polite enough and friendly but If it was me I would have offered out a drink or something for the wait. Pizza arrived at the same time as Emmanuel's and the eat off began, he looked at me with the look of a starved man and his family and mine demolished the pizza’s and finished at the same time, making a swift exit. Now, I used the toilet AFTER I ordered food, my normal practice is to do this in reverse and help me in my decision on the cleanliness of the kitchen, I almost had a coronary when going to dry my hands 🙌🏻 picture attached…… Would I go back? No, got potential to be a cool place but the hand dryer sealed the deal for me.

Popped in at lunchtime and had panini - ham and cheese. At £7.50 each, these were the most expensive panini we have ever had. They were also the worst. Hard, dry bread, bland tasteless ham and next to no cheese. Ham and cheese panini should have enough cheese so that it strings when the sandwich is cut in two. In these, you had to open them up and see whether there was any at all. We had to put ketchup on them to make them barely edible. This pub is famous for its pizzas. I hope they’re better than what we had today. We will never know.

We booked ahead as planned to eat after a long hike. A tired looking pub with both indoor and outdoor seating. A limited food menu unless you wanted a pizza. There were several starter options but the mains were limited and would like to have seen some traditional pub favourites like fish and chips and home made pie. We ordered the chicken wings and ribs to start and lobster with Thermidor sauce. The food came in and takeaway boxes which we were surprised at both overlooked this for the starters. Our main of lobster also came out in a takeaway box which was just wrong. Although we had ordered and paid for the sauce as an extra this was not provided and when we told the waiter he told us that was extra. When had to tell him we did pay for it as an extra. The chicken wings were fine but the ribs were very fatty. Unfortunately the sauce was very disappointing. The sauce was very thin and lacked taste. I was really looking forward to a tasty hearty meal after my long walk which did not materialise.

While staying at a camp site a few miles up the road we went to the Hardknott Bar & Cafe at The Woolpack twice for food. The first time we’d just arrived in the Lake District but it was late and we needed to head back to the camp site so having read online we could get take away pizzas, we stopped in and the service was great and the pizzas were absolutely lovely. After a great first experience and seeing lovely food coming out of the kitchen, we came back on our last night in the Lake District for dinner. The service was faultless, all the guys and gals serving were friendly and full of smiles, and it felt very welcoming. Drinks were very reasonable (especially when used to London/South East prices!) and they had a lovely selection of local beers and gins. The menu is varied without being too vast, the food was extremely good value and our dinners were absolutely delicious. We were very impressed with the service and food already, then after finishing his dinner my little boy decided he’d like some ice cream so I went to the bar ordered and paid. A gentleman then came to clear our dinner plates, he asked if the little one would like some ice cream and when I explained I’d already ordered some, he then promptly brought my money back as he said dessert was included for children. Despite the fact my little boy had a small pizza and I hadn’t explicitly ordered from the kids menu. It really was the kind of service that rarely exists these days and we were blown away with the food and high quality of service. We will most definitely be back on our next trip to the Lake District and highly recommend to anyone visiting looking for a drink and/or a bite to eat.

The beer and cider here are excellent, and there is an above average selection of whisky and gin. The food is good, but the menu is a little scattergun, including a tapas menu (not Spanish tapas, could be anything!), a pizza menu (cooked in a wood fired oven) and a traditional menu. I honestly believe it could stand a little more focus in it's menu, but there will be something for everyone. A special mention needs to be made of the steak, served almost uncooked on a hot lava stone which you then allow to cook to your taste. I fully recommend it.

Just popped in for a beer here on a wet Tuesday night - friendly helpful staff behind the bar, great range of beers, lovely comfy sofa in front of a cracking burner so nicely dried off and dog friendly. Smashing place.

Just back from our third weekend at the Woolpack. We love it there so much! Obviously the location is gorgeous, and a lot of business owners may rely on that and that alone to pull customers in but the Woolpack is an outstanding pub in all regards with gorgeous food, a good selection of ales and spirits, and lovely rooms to stay in. This time we had room 8 with the massive jacuzzi in and it was ace! The breakfast is lovely, and the dog Woolly is and gorgeous and regal as the day is long. We will definitely be back, it's become our "place" and we love it.

After Hardknott pass, this a pretty much the first place to stop and were not disappointed. The really friendly service was great, the food was great - chicken and leek pie really homely on a winter day. Wood burner was cozy and the dog Wooly was friendly and the kids loved her. Thanks and this is a place I would recommend and return to.

If you are in the Lake District and you are a confident driver then providing the weather is good you should try to navigate over the Wrynose Pass and the Hardknott Pass which will lead you on to the Woolpack Inn (Hardknott bar & cafe) We came on a midweek evening in February just as it was getting dark. Inside we were greeted by a pleasant Scottish fella and had some well deserved drinks then found a lovely wood burner to sit by while we had a look at the menu. There was a project screen showing snooker in one corner of the bar so good if you like to watch sports. The menu had plenty of choice from light snacks to bar meals and their specialty dish of homemade Pizza freshly cooked in theirs pizza ovens which I can definitely recommend. Much tastier and much better quality than any of the main pizza chains back home and at a fairly reasonable price as well. There is no phone signal but they do have free WiFi if you want to use it but you have to allow it access to Facebook or Twitter or use a sign up page to use it. They do special deals on food like cook your own steaks on heated up lava stones and Prosecco for a good price. They also have live entertainment some nights. Definitely a place to stop off at if your in the area.

We had walked from the other end of the valley up to the fort on Hardknott pass, then to the pub for late lunch and too many beers. Great food and service: the barman gave us a lift back to Stanley House.

My family and I ate at this pub whilst staying in Boot for my Birthday. We arrived at about 8.30pm on a Friday night and were able to get a table - I had rung in advance and told we wouldn't need to book but that might be different in the summer. We all had Pizzas and they were fantastic! The atmosphere was good and a real mix of people in there. We had our 11 and 13 year old kids with us and they enjoyed it too. A great place

No chat, no bienvenido. ¡Era como si nos estuvieran haciendo un favor!

We weren't impressed with the vast amount of tables and chairs crammed into every space (made all the more obvious due to the emptiness, despite it being a warm Friday evening).

Called in after a walk with my elderly father expecting a tourist trap and poor food but couldn't have been more wrong. Excellent selection of good beers, wines and ciders and well priced, well cooked food. Bar staff so helpful and friendly. Highly recommended and will be back!

Called in here with a friend for some lunch on a Sunday. Menu said to order at the bar so to the bar we went. 2 staff serving 4 people waiting, well should say 1 serving as the other one was more interested in watching the match on the TV. One person ordered their food, me next. Barman says you need to go to the bar next door to order food. So I send my mate in to order food & say I will stay here & order drinks. Barman says you can order drinks with your food so I sit down. Mate gets served last for food order & when he asks for drinks gets told to order them at the 1st bar. This is all the same member of staff as the other one still staring at the TV. So 2 pizzas ordered one small 1 large.

We really enjoyed our pizzas this evening. The bases were thin and crispy, toppings generous and tasty. We shared a portion of calamares to start and they were delicious too. Highly recommend this pub.

Having driven around the local passes, it was a huge relief to find The Woolpack Inn, just when we were in need of a break. We only needed a nice cup of coffee, which arrived without any delay. The place is obviously a very popular stop for fell walkers, they seemed to arrive in their droves. There was plenty of food on offer, and hungry walkers were tucking in. Just when you think you are miles from anywhere in the Lake District, up pops somewhere like this to stop for refreshments.

I am torn between giving a 4 or a 5. So have plumped for a 5. Mainly because all the family enjoyed the food. Ages ranging from 20 months to 69 years. Portion sizes varied, not entirely sure some of the tapas was value for money but all tasted good and we were all full and it came out hot, always a winner. Pub was nice although some attention to detail wouldn’t go a miss like the giant cob web in the ladies and baby changing area? Didn’t see it if there was one, however, considering the location I doubt you get many babies visiting. Dog was gorgeous and made my day having a cuddle.

I’ve eaten here before over the years and never been disappointed. We went for burgers and deep fried king prawns with some spicy wings. Also we ordered some onion rings. Wow freshly fried massive onion rings were flash fried and didn’t taste oily at all. With the skin on fries and well kept black sheep ale it was a top meal!

Fantastic pub run by fantastic people. We went for drinks having already eaten... which was a shame because the stuff we saw looked fantastic. The pub was busy, but not too much - the atmosphere was great. I had my kids who were made to feel welcome, but there were lots of couple in too. At the end of the night the landlady arrange free transport back to our accommodation. I would thoroughly recommend a visit.

After expecting a cosy walkers bar for our first meal on holiday we were immediately disappointed with the shabby austere surroundings that we entered which markets itself as a artisan. Our meal was ok but definitely nothing special. One member of the party was ill soon after and we were shocked at the price of food and drinks, even after the error with the bill was rectified. We will not be returning.

We enjoyed a visit to the botanical gardens & decided to stop in to their cafe /restaurant for a bite to eat I must say that the views were stunning looking out onto the gardens , we were lucky enough to get a table on the veranda where a local choir were singing & it made our day The food menu is quite limited but there were a nice selection of cakes available & lots of unusual teas too The food we did order was delicious .. but they were small portions for the price ( I must admit it was one our most expensive eats while on the isle of wight!) All in all a great setting to enjoy a cup of tea & drink but maybe wouldn’t go back for food
