Was staying nearby and found this title gem. We were welcomed with a cheery hello. Everyone in the pub were so friendly and chatty with us. We ordered the small portion of scampi chips and peas so I could have a pud 🤣hubby had hunters chicken salad and chips. We didn’t have to wait very long for our meals and they were piping hot. I had the treacle sponge with piping hot custard for y pud which was so yummy. All the regulars were very friendly and included us in their chats. Prices were reasonable and the food so delicious. Then the next night we went back as we had such a good meal the night before and the landlord welcomed us as tho we were regulars. Food again was fantastic we both had the fish and chips and was so tasty. Had a great night and if we are In the area again will definitely without a doubt go again. The landlord and his staff are so friendly and helpful no wonder they are so busy. 👍

Two couples had a really good lunch experience at this very friendly and well run pub. The food is very good quality and at an extremely reasonable price. The menu is wide ranging with a choice of light bites if required. I had the three sausages with mash and peas, very tasty and enjoyable. The other members also gave their meals a 10/10 vote. To conclude I had the Crumble of the day with custard, a great home made dish. Well done to all the Staff you got everything spot on.

We popped in for lunch today whilst in Stonehouse shopping and we weren’t disappointed. Friendly warm welcome from staff, quick and easy service at the bar. The menu was a good variety of choice with a section of ‘small plates’ options that my husband was so pleased to see. The specials board looked good too. Food was cooked well and it was quick to serve with nothing too much trouble when we asked for extra sauces. Again good choice of pudding with mix of classics and specials. We will definitely visit again.

Bought Fish and Chips and Chicken Salsa. Fish and Chips were off small plate menu as they DO NOT serve Fish and chips on main menu ?! When the Fish and chips came was totally shocked sooo small. So small in fact asked waitress waitresd if it a child's portion? Was told 'no it's small because on small plate menu' £8.95! When said we weren't happy was told 'we don't set the price or the portions. Hard to get fish'. Really? Chip shop manages decent portions at a reasonable price!! Asked for our feedback to be passed onto Manager was told 'She already knows'. Obviously loads of complaints but could not care less. Don't waste your hard earned cash.

We sat down outside waited to be served waited 10minutes intill my partner went in to see if they could serve him at the bar. One girl was about to in till another girl came around and said no you have to wait intill we come to you out side. We were waiting a good 20minuted after that, where it got to the point of me going in to ask if we could served as we’d been waiting for god knows how long. People who came in after us getting served before we did. I understand times can be busy, me and my partner worked in a busy pub but when we came wasn’t overly busy at all.

. . A bit disappointed that a childrens menu isn't on offer as that is the only thing really that would put me off going againMy daughter could only have a smaller portion of an adult meal most of which she wouldn't eat. However food was lovely, hot and a very good portion. Paid £36 for 3 meals and 2 puddings which I thought was very reasonable. Visited whilst spending the weekend with my sister and her partner. Having never been, they were interested in visiting one of their new locals. Outside it looks quite impressive, and indoors gave the feel of an old country pub.A small selection of ales were available, although many of the taps appeared to be off on our visit. Drink prices were average - with a special deal on some of the bottled beers. The staff were pretty friendly, with the barmaid offering to keep half our drinks (from the drinks offer) in the fridge to keep them cool whilst we had our first. There is a large pub garden, which looks like it could be a nice place to enjoy a drink in the sun and with some children running around, it would appear they cater well for children. They also have a pool table and jukebox - so there was plenty to keep us entertained. We didn't try the food as we had planned on a takeaway when we were leaving, so cannot comment on the food unfortunately. I think we will be visiting there again on my next visit to Stonehouse, so look forward to trying a few of the other ales they have to offer.

We came here for Sunday lunch today. There was 3 of us. My father suffers from a long term health condition which means he cannot eat very much - the waitress kindly let him have a child's portion of a pork roast dinner. He thoroughly enjoyed his meal, as did the rest of us. My mother had a small beef roast, and I had a pork and leek pie. The portion sizes were generous and the food was of a very high quality. The pub was homely and nice, the drinks were quite expensive - something we have come to expect in local pubs. The food however, was very reasonable - especially considering the generous portion sizes. The only reason I have scored this 4/5 instead of 5/5 is that we were overcharged (which the waitress did rectify) and some of the staff were walking around barefoot. I consider this a massive health and safety risk for those members of staff and a hygiene issue. The staff (particularly the waitresses) seemed very inexperienced, and could do with some lessons on customer service - but it's safe to say they did their best. I'll agree with the other reviews which says the landlady can come across as rude - we witnessed this. We've also heard from a few friends that visited, that she can be very rude to patrons unless they are considered 'regulars'. Overall, a good old fashioned pub, with lovely food. We will be visiting again.

An amazing lunch and superb welcome. Baguettes so full of all our varied choices & Jacket potatoes cooked to perfection & overloaded with fillings we were unable to eat the bowls of chips that accompanied the under £5 baguettes & jackets. The real ales were similarly delightful & consumed with much enthusiasm.

Great almost spit and sawdust pub, lovely ales, beamed, low ceilings in bar area. Dining area lost a bit of charm, but good value pub grub. Not gastro, lower key. But 'hunters chicken' on specials board for £7.95 for example. nice and cheap food.

After a 2 1/2 hour journey we walked 2 miles of the Laurie Lee walk. We thought we would have lunch at the Woolpack at the halfway stage. We had looked at the website and thought how lovely the Menu was. It was my partners birthday so it was going to be a treat for him. When we arrived at the Woolpack we were told that there was no food served because the kitchen was closed for contract cleaning. I do however understand that the kitchen has to be cleaned but I would like to know why this information had not been posted on the website so it would have saved us the journey.

Visited The Woolpack with a group of ramblers and we enjoyed good, reasonably priced food which was served quickly and with a smile from the very friendly waitress/barlady. Good honest pub grub. Better than we had hoped for after reading some previous reviews.

Ate here on a Sunday and had high hopes when we entered amongst a throng of diners. How wrong we were. Food was watery, poorly cooked and tasteless. Hospitals produce much better fare. Staff were poorly led by a stressful, rude, swearing and almost aggressive landlady(?). As for a watering hole, it seemed like a happy ship with a choice of nice larger bar and a smaller livelier bar. Real ale to be applauded with friendly bar staff. Will try again for drinks but never for food. Avoid particularly if landlady is about.

Went her on the 10th June 2015 with some friends. Had a portion of chips and they tasted so fatty! Probably were cooked the night before! After we all had the chips. We all felt ill and wanted to throw up, 2 of us had upset stomachs. Really tatty looking place inside. The owner was swearing in front of us like she knew us which was horrid and Uninviting. Would I go here again? NO!Don't even want to give this place 1 star!

I really don't know how they cook their chicken! It was completely tasteless and dry. The vegetables were even worse! The cabbage was swimming in water and tasteless, the roast potatoes were again tasteless, as were all the vegetable. Perhaps they were frozen, as suggested by an earlier reviewer.I had always told friends that the Sunday roast was the only decent meal to be had in the Woolpack, but I will NEVER eat there again! I have previously had a meal where absolutely everything from chicken through to onion rings and chips were all deep fried, probably all together!

What a waste of money. I had not thought it was still possible to experience such awful food in a pub. An experience not to be repeated. The only plus side being, if you want a drink, the bar area is inviting.

A truly terrible experience. Most of us had a Sunday roast. The vegetables (some of which had clearly been cooked from frozen), were boiled to mush and tasted vile. The staff were clearly inexperienced, and the lady overseeing the restaurant was far from welcoming. Also, do not even consider visiting this pub if you have young children. There is no baby changing facility. The staff recommended that we changed our children's nappies on the floor of the very unclean toilets.

Went for a meal here at the weekend with my uncle, aunt ,sister and partner. The food was very good, well cooked and plenty of it.A very well spoken young girl served us and looked after us well. The food prices are good value for money, and a previous visit for Sunday lunch was exceptional, the amount of food was huge.We eat out quite a lot in the Stroud/ Gloucester area and this is one of our favorite. Some of the recent reviews seem to differ, but i have never had any problem. All in all a very pleasant evening.

It was the Monday before Christmas and I'd expected a cheery pub to enjoy some pub grub before the days of sherry and turkey. The pub was empty. We were greeted by silence from the ,landlady, who was busy lunching with her friends or family. I ordered sausages and bubble and squeak. Cheap sausage, that can only have had nodding acquaintance with a pig. Even the 10 year old wouldn't eat them! Cheap frozen chips came with cheap frozen fish. The bubble and squeak was good though, genuine Sunday lunch leftovers, shame there wasn't more of it.Puds were ok, in a 'value food' kind of way.Hazel P.

I went to this charming establishment with some colleagues and my son. One of my colleagues started ordering and asked my 18 year old undergraduate son what he wanted to drink. He said he just wanted some water as he does not really drink alcohol. My colleague said 'Go on, have a proper drink. Reluctantly, my son said he would have a half of lager. The barmaid asked him for some ID and my son produced his National Union of Students ID card. She took this and took it to another member of staff (possibly the landlord). Between them they ostentatiously examined the card, holding it high in the air and squinting at it. After much perusal, the landlord(?) said, 'No. It hasn't got your date of birth on it.' At this point I should have left the pub but my colleague had taken a sip of his pint of mediocre Landlord and I didn't want to make a scene. My son settled for not having a drink. I am sure the staff were acting according to the law and I applaud this. However, their attitude to my son was appalling. They made every attempt to belittle and humiliate him. Sadly they succeeded. The handful of regulars in the pubs seemed quite cheerful and happy to be there. They also seemed to be treated with respect and courtesy. We were not. I will never spend any money in this pub again. Please visit this pub and make your own mind up. You may be lucky.

A friend and I went to the Woolpack to enjoy a lunchtime birthday drink. As we entered the bar area, the solitary member of staff left to attend to some diners. The landlady was sitting in a corner enjoying her own lunch. After standing at the bar for about 10 minutes without being served we decided to leave. My friend said he would never return. If the staff had simply said "sorry we're rushed off our feet, I'll be with you as soon as I can" it would have made all the difference.I had read that the food here was good - I won't get to experience it

We were staying at the Stonehouse Court Hotel just up the road and it was very busy. We decided to wander into the village and found this place. We went into the Lounge and found the tail end of a Funeral. We thought ee had stumbled into a private do, once we established we hadn't we stayed. Glad we did. I had the country pan fried steak with mushrooms and mustard and "wifelet" had the scampi. Very nice and reasonable price. We got back to the hotel about 930 and definitely made the correct decision to eat out. Guests were complaining about still not having been fed! We decided to eat there again the next evening and the food and the local pub atmosphere was stil there. I had the swiss rol which ispork roledand covered in agreat cream and mushroom sauce. Head Office had the lasagne.very reasonable priced.

Lovely pub, great food, very friendly atmosphere, and the family that run it are so funny it's like having a running cabaret the entire time, they also tried to undercharge us by leaving two drinks off our bill, and seemed absolutely stunned by our honesty when we told them we had been undercharged. The only drawback and this has nothing to do with the Pub, is that Stonehouse only seems to have one taxi, so when we phoned at 20.55 for a cab we were told that we would have to wait until 22.30 at the earliest.

I visited here for Sunday lunch with my family and it will be the last time. The food was very poor although the food portions were quite large. I ordered pork which was tough and come without crackling an no apple sauce was offered. The veg was over cooked, tasteless an sloppy And the Yorkshire pudding tastes burnt even though it wasn't. The service could have been better and the girls serving although polite didn't seem to know what they doing, whilst the manager sat with her own family in the corner rather then help and train her staff. Very poor job overall and wouldn't recommend it either. There are far nicer places to eat for less money. That said I do t mind paying a little more for quality.
