Lovely village pub with a great atmosphere. The pub looks amazing after the refurb and every time I have visited, the new staff have gone out of their way to make me feel welcome. Everyone there has been so friendly. The food is really good too! I would recommend this pub to anyone and will be visiting frequently.

So we have lived in the village many years and did enjoy having a friendly local to visit- meet friends, see a friendly face, an recognisable landlord and a good beer. Since the new tenants took over we have given it a go twice and have been thoroughly disappointed both times. With permanent tennnts we had hoped to get back the village pub atmosphere that we have missed with temporary gatekeepers. No atmosphere. No welcome- the staff ignore you when you walk in and had to wait for them to finish their chats with their friends before we were acknowledged. Someone even mentioned sit down she might be a while. Hardly the warm welcome after a refrub that you would expect. The ales are not kept well and there is defiantly a very poor pint of IPA. I hate to think what the food would be like but we will not be back to try. If your wanting a village pub with a good atmosphere this is one to avoid.

The refurb is amazing and has really changed the pub for the better. The pub is clean and has a very good atmosphere, very cosy and welcoming. The new manager is lovely and the staff are very friendly and accommodating. The beer and ales are well kept, food is great too! I haven't got a bad thing to say about this place. Would definitely recommend.

This was our second visit to the Woolpack. From start to finish the evening was a joy. We went to celebrate my Wife's birthday and were joined by our son and daughter and their partners. The Restaurant was busy but service was friendly, welcoming and efficient without being rushed. We chose six seperate starters and six seperate mains, all arrived beautifully presented, expertly cooked and to be honest whilst I was delighted with my choice I'd have been happy if I'd chosen anyone else's meal. Portions are generous and the ingredients local and of the very highest quality. The Covid protection was also very good with screens seperating tables and the whole restaurant had had a deep clean so not only did we enjoy an excellent meal but felt very safe too.Whatever the restrictions bring over the coming months we'll be coming back and I'd recommend that if you are looking for a top quality meal, in friendly surroundings for a great value price you'll do well if you book here. We'll certainly be coming back

Upon arrival we were impressed to see the pub was employing a one-way system with separate entrance and exit. The table had a notice to say it had been disinfected. The staff all wore visors and gloves. The food came within 15 minutes of ordering and was well-presented and of generous proportions. The Sunday roast - we chose turkey - consisted of ample tender meat, a Yorkshire pudding, roasted and new potatoes, carrots, tender-stem broccoli, red cabbage, gravy and a generous dish of cranberry sauce. Excellent value for £12.95 (£17 for two courses). Other choices were available - you weren't restricted to a roast. The staff and landlady were all friendly and welcoming. I thoroughly recommend this for a relaxing and enjoyable meal. You won't leave feeling hungry!

Then I had sticky toffee pudding and custard, also very good. My wife had rump steak which was also very good. The waitresses were pleasant and nothing was to much bother. I was not disappointed, the burgers with fantastic, I had the chicken burger, proper chips as well. No room for the box of brownies we had ordered. Food was nice and hot still, delivery drive was really great. Can’t wait till we can try a sit down when the pub is back open.

We had the same restaurant-y atmosphere you would get if you actually went to the pub! We would definitely recommend you go to the pub, or you can easily get a takeaway! I think it’s great how the team are doing it because they WANT to help the public domain in this pandemic and I do believe that it will help a lot of people out for the next few months, and who knows, the takeaways could be a hit and the pub could do this consistently for however many years!

Once again we were back at the Woolpack having visited in January for a 'rolling' birthday meal for my husband Ian. That time the food was good except the venison although tasty was a bit chewy! A point though, generally we are a threesome but the extra place setting and chair are not removed which would be a nice touch and for some reason the waitress removed all the wine glasses? There was a hiccup with the timings but all in all we had a very enjoyable evening. Now this time we again there were only 3 (should have been 4) and once again all the wine glasses were removed! A suggestion. Once seated a menu and wine list presented, the extra setting and chair be removed and then we would all be seated more comfortably! The chosen dishes were well presented if slightly lacking in cabbage! (Duck and Chicken Kiev) but as always the steak was well received and had an abundance of sides! That aside, we are always warmly welcomed and will in fact be eating there again this Saturday. Thank you Woolpack for giving me a day off!

My husband Ian calls The Woolpack our local canteen on the account that if family and/or friends are visiting we always eat here! Nice short walk from home so ideal. Although the food was good (steak, burger, sea bass) there was a huge mis communication which meant we had to wait over an hour for our meals. During the wait we ordered a ‘basket’ of bread to keep us going. What arrived was a lovely board of beautifully chard bread, drizzled with olive oil served with aioli. Then when I asked why we still hadn’t been served, I was told it was because we’d ordered a starter (?) and that the well done steak took time. Really? I can slice up bread and then cook a well done steak in 10 minutes. Georgina though saved the day with a complimentary bottle of wine. The steak though was cooked well (I actually refuse to cook Ian’s steak well done!), the burger excellent and the sea bass gorgeous although to much having both creamed potato and sauté new potato slices but the red cabbage addition was to die for and I now recreate this dish at home! Thank you chef! Service is always good. Quick and efficient without being rushed. We will be back!

We booked Sunday Lunch as a Birthday Celebration. The Woolpack is a Family-run Pub and the whole experience was superb. A warm welcome with well-informed recommendations at the bar and an extensive and well-priced menu. I suggest you listen to the "Specials" of the day and be prepared for generous well-cooked and beautifully presented food. The Tempura Prawns with Chili as a special starter were gorgeous as were the other starters we chose from the Menu. Being a Sunday half of us went for the Roast and it was possible to have a selection of Pork, Beef and Turkey, or stick to one of the three - those who chose other mains were happy that they'd chosen wisely - no portion-envy here.Desserts were as good as the previous two courses and the staff were attentive, friendly and professional. We are a group of friends who have got into the habit of going out once a month and visit a new place to eat month locally. We dont do the big chain restaurants, we like the local businesses and normally there is 6 -9 of us each month. We are from the Flitwick area but myself being from Wilstead originally, I still.spend alot of time here and was aware of the new(ish) owners and great reviews to date.So i suggested here for our May visit and no one was left disappointed. The food was amazing, all home cooked and piping hot when served.A great menu choice ! We have some fussy eaters and an egg free lady too, so not always easy to please but everyone said they were spoilt for choice !! The service was brilliant, even after a fair few questions, nothing was too much trouble.A credit to the pub ! The lamb shanks look amazing and my friends said were one of the best they had.I had the Pie of the Day and Wow, what a satisfying dish that was.The burgers looked and apparently were amazing too ! We all had puddings, again, such a great choice and some very different too which was great. And they were brilliant value too, compared to other places we have visited, this was definitely noted for great value but you certainly did not feel they cut any corners to get those prices. The wine proces were also great, not charging the earth for a bottle of house wine, which we always note wherever we visit .I will definitely recommend The Woolpack, I will definitely be back and I am making sure my folks get back down there soon too as to have this Gem down the road, it would a shame to miss out !Thank You and we will be back.

This was once our regular, but stopped using when previous owner didn’t improve hygiene rating. We were pleased to see the new owners were continuing the steak night and decided to try it out. The waitress was outstanding, we were made very welcome and service was very good. She explained that the steak deal was more expensive than previously but justified it by virtue of the steak coming from Woburn Farm Foods. Our favourite meat supplier so we were happy. My starter was okay, but not memorable, seriously I can’t remember what it was, my husbands salmon fish cakes was actually one fishcake cut in half, he said it tasted fine but he felt cheated as it was only one and cost £8.00, a hefty price for a dish that is predominantly potato. The steak meal was good, steak was indeed good quality, though I struggle to understand why an accompanying salad should contain grapes in abundance.the chips were without doubt uthe best I have ever eaten. The disappointment was the wine that came as part of the meal. I am not sure whether it their house wine or something they have found that is very cheap on the assumption that as part of a deal, you can’t complain. The wine was as bad as the chips were good. I was wary when the label said that it was made in the UK from imported grape juice. In short it was disgusting, sweet, tasteless, no body and there must have been alcohol in it but if I hadn’t known it was wine I would have thought it was a cheap children’s mixed fruit squash. All that said, we will revisit will def have a meal with chips, but we will choose our wine. Prices a bit high for pub grub, I think they should decide where they are in the market; pub grub or gastro pub, the food is currently pub grub (except the chips and meat quality) but the prices are more like gastro pub.

This is the second time we have eaten at The Woolpack and unfortunately the food was not as good as the first. I have heard that it depends who the chef is at the time. Following my booking, I checked to see if the chef could accommodate someone who could not have alcohol in sauces etc. Yes to sauces but no to fish which in the evening is beer-battered and yet at lunchtime I believe it isn't. The reason given for not providing regular batter in the evening was 'because it would compromise the quality' ? However the staff are very friendly especially the barman who can hear the drinks discussion and pour the drinks whilst we are chatting and Georgia who has served us twice. There are a few niggles though and I'm back to the fish and chips! The first time I had it, it was perfect but this time my husband needed more than a regular knife to cut through it! The gammon steaks were fine but a choice of a fried egg or pineapple might be nice. Both visits though, there have been menu changes, either there is only one of two pies to choose from or a meat dish has changed, all this at around 8pm on a Saturday night. I do wonder though why if the fish can be deep fried, the chips cannot. Just not the same without 'proper' chips. However the portions are generous and always hot which isn't the case in some places. A 'Specials' board and perhaps more fish dishes, might be more appealing for those of us who don't eat a great deal of meat. The menu is compact, along with the wine list but all in all a very good establishment to eat in. I haven't given 4 stars because I'm not sure it Very Good. I thing TripAdvisor need to put a Good star in!

Arrived at the pub at 5:30 with my wife and 2 kids to meet some friends, we were told they had 18 people arriving at 6:30 for a party and they had all pre ordered so they would cook our food once they had their starters out. At 7:45 we were still waiting for our food as apparently the chef Pete (aka the landlord) could not commit to mash potato. Having been told they cook mash from fresh so they couldn’t cook it before the party came in, hence why we were waiting. We were then told after waiting for over 2 hours that they couldn’t serve us mash as they had only 2 portions left and having served another 3 tables, who came in after us- they had ordered mash so were given it. We were not offered any proper apology, only a half hearted one after we had complained, no customer service was seen, and our 3 yr old daughter was upset and VERY HUNGRY by this point. The pub is lovely and the locals are great, but the owners haven’t got a clue! Not sure if this is the first pub they’ve run but they act like it is. I vowed to never return and I never will, well at least till they get new owners.

My partner and I visit nearly every Sunday as the roast dinner is the best in the area... by far! Good drinks selection and great service always.

Our family gathering coincided with the introduction of the new menu, the mains were all delicious, interesting take on meat pies, including a chilli and cheese version. Then there were the desserts, salted caramel cheesecake, lemon posset and an amazing white chocolate and raspberry profiteroles. Looking forward to a return visit to sample the dishes we didn’t have room to try!

Ate here as a family of 10 one Sunday. All of us were extremely happy with the meal. Ordered various waffles for dessert - also delicious. Service is fantastic. Superb pub. Returned for the soulman on the Friday. Very entertaining. Still excellent service even when busy.

Visited this local pub to give me a break from cooking. Was extremely disappointed with the main meal served to us. Escalope of chicken, dry and hard. It was almost if it had been cooked previously and reheated though chef insisted that that was not the case.Offered a dessert as compensation which neither of us usually have. Will not be visiting this pub again, lesson learned. The one saving grace was the wine which was lovely.

Food well cooked and well presented, Pie of the Day was exceptional. After a starter and the pie with proper chips, not fries!! No room for 'afters'

Five friends from the village of Wilstead decided to have lunch at the Woolpack,we were not disappointed. The service was excellent, the food was superb and reasonably priced. We all agreed why bother to travel out of the village when there is a first class restuarant/pub on our doorstep. Certainly will go again and recommend to friends.

For an anniversary dinner, my boyfriend and i visited the pub for a meal - it was one of the best meals we have ever had. i had a burger which was so lovely and cooked perfectly (handmade too !) and my partner had the pork and was amazing too. our waitress tonight (sorry we did not catch your name but you know who you are) was simply perfect - chatty and polite which added to the evening. highly recommend and thank you woolpack for a memorable and tasty evening ! we shall be returning !

Extremely Happy with the service 5*, the food was so delicious, I couldn't help but ask for a recipe, ideal for a party, function, wedding or any kind of day out, very friendly staff members who strive to give the best service in front of you and whilst in the kitchen, I wasnt pestered about drinks over and over again, a staff member was always in sight if I wanted another drink or anything else.

The Wool pack is a great pub to enjoy some hearty freshly cooked food. I went with my girlfriend last night and we both really enjoyed ourselves. We were very impressed with the food which was clearly freshly cooked as I have dietary requirements and they were able to adjust their menu to cater for my needs. All round great service and great food. I will be recommending the pub to my family and friends.

Being local we tried the Woolly again for Sunday lunch and yet again it was a let-down.Different Chef, again, we think led to poor food quality again. Roast potatoes were more like deep fried and meat didn’t have a lot of taste and the vegetables seemed like they had been microwaved, for ages. Potato skins for starters we again deep fried along with the bacon and that was burnt. Our friends and I think that if Peter isn’t in the kitchen then standards fall and no two food dishes are ever the same.If you don’t buck up your ideas then the door will once again shut as beer alone can’t keep this Pub afloat.Just not worth trying again sorry.

Visited here for dinner with friends after recommendations. Our first disapointnentwas being told that they were only serving Sunday lunches, I'd already looked online at the menu and was looking forward to ordering a burger the food was ok, more vegetables & proper roast potatoes would have been nice. The biggest disappointment though was the service and facilities. Waiting for the bill was a mission, watching the waitress cleantables and go in and out of the kitchen whilst we sat there waiting didn't impress, and neither did the one working toilet with a broken loo seat and loo roll holder. First and last visit for me.

Could not ask for a more helpful pub. I had suppliers coming from Wales for a meeting and lunch and the arrival time was sketchy (you know traffic n all). I rang and spoke to Jan who could not have been more accommodating, I explained lunch time arrival could be a bit hazy, this was not a problem. When we arrived the staff were very pleasant, attentive and attended to you at the right time. Food was lovely could not fault it all came out hot and well presented. Thank you for making my business lunch all the more enjoyable Woolpack, I will be recommending you friends and family and I will be back for a more leisurely lunch/dinner.
