Nice large pub on Milton road quite close to Cambridge North station, a nice friendly pub good service and food and plenty of seating somewhere outdoor as well , good place to visit in area

Went on Saturday 5th October, and the staff were amazing, the food was amazing and the place was a great meeting place. Will come again.

Probably one of the best price / quality ratios you can get for food in Cambridge. It doesn't cost you much more - maybe less - than some fast food chains or food trucks and you get to enjoy a real pub.

No locks on the bathroom stalls but very friendly staff and nice atmosphere

Food and service are both quite average. A place to meet and chat.

Awful experience. Took my son who has additional needs, so we sat outside and ordered AND PAID on the app. After about 20min nothing arrived, I went inside to be told by an indifferent manager ‘oh there won’t be food for a couple of hours, there’s no one to cook food.’ It was 5pm and food was meant to be available. I asked about a refund to be told, that will be done online. Nothing was ever received. The manager (who I don’t think was the regular one as I heard him say this on his mobile) clearly couldn’t care less and it was a horrible experience for me and my son. I wanted to give no stars but it wasn’t an option.

Arrived at 2.30 Sunday afternoon, previoulsy having booked a table for 10 people. A group of us from Ipswich and Peterborough often met half way and had been recommenede The Golden Hind as a popular venue with good all round service. Ordered food at about 2.40. Food started to arrive on our table at 4.30 - last order which was for a child arrived at 4.45 - having been suddenly told no peas!! Having eventually eaten our main course we then went to order dessert only to be told the kitchen was closed!!! and that there was only Lava cookies or ice cream!! We expalined that we hd only just finished our main course due to the time it had taken to deliver our food - no apologies etc., consequently we left and traveled to Cambrige Services to complete our meal!!! Perhaps we should have gone there to start with!!! We had read the notices around the pub saying they were short staffed and were experiencing problems. The younfg man who served our food was so apologetic at the time it had taken and was obvioulsy embrassed by the delay..

UPDATED 15/9/24: Ten months on and, oh, how things have changed. Today, the place is plastered with signs indicating fewer opening hours, and limited hours for food. Waited over an hour for our food order. Another customer said that they had been told of the delays; if we’d known we would have gone elsewhere. When it finally arrived, the food and the plates were barely warm, let alone hot, and the food looked unappetising. The server apologised for the delay, and said that there was only one chef on duty. Elsewhere, the staff looked harassed and demoralised, and avoided eye contact (probably as an defence mechanism) and it was nothing like our experience on previous visits. If you haven’t been here before, all I can say is AVOID, AVOID, AVOID for the time being, until this place gets its act back together, if it ever does. - - - - - - - - - - PREVIOUSLY: A popular and well-appointed establishment, with a warm and friendly welcome from the team every time I visit. There’s a wide selection of lager and cider, along with a variety of guest beers and gin! A varied menu with dishes cooked to order (so you may have a bit of a wait when things get busy) and a cracking Sunday lunch menu if you’re hungry. My new ‘go-to’ for food and drink.

Reasonably good value food and selection of proper beers. Decent outdoor seating. Can't really blame them for having traffic lights instead of mountains and lakes with wildebeest and predators to watch. But if you can't tolerate loud TV footy you'll want to AVOID like the plague when they're on.

Came to golden hind as food is really good we waited an hour for our food because they only had one chef and not enough staff on I wish they had told people when they were ordering about the wait had two small children who were so hungry probably won't come here anymore

Best meal I’ve had in Cambridge. I came for Sunday roast, and it was probably the best Turkey I’ve had in my life. My daughter and I loved it.

We came for a birthday celebration lunch with adults with learning disabilities and the welcome, service and quality of good were all brilliant thanks do much 👍

Lovely food and beer. Plenty of space outside for the kids and parking on site.

I visited this pub to watch the football final game so obviously the pub was very busy. I was joining friends who are regular there. I thought the was had many seating areas: indoors and outdoors. Really friendly staff as well despite a busy evening! I just had drinks so cannot comment on the food.

Greene King, so you already know its going to be good, but the food really os top notch and they have Thatchers Blood Orange on tap!!

When it was the first ENGLAND game,we went to 2 pubs on Chesterton Road over Victoria bridge and they were LOUSY with MINUSICLE TVs?, went to GOLDEN HIND,it was the best pub featuring all the England games on a 60 inch TV. although it was packed on every ENGLAND game, the service was EXCELLENT ! 10 *

Went on a Sunday when it was pretty empty. Ordered drinks and a bowl of chips to share as a quick snack between the family. We ordered using the app. The order apparently didn't get sent to the pub. I went to the bar after waiting twenty minutes, whereupon I was told that "well, I haven't had a print out and the chips will come from the kitchen". I then had to re-order my drinks, no apology was offered. We then waited a further thirty minutes at the table for the chips to arrive, before giving up and leaving. I regret tipping with the order, and frankly giving the Golden Hind my business. My children were upset and confused by the wait and I can't imagine that we'll risk a repeat of this, so are unlikely to return. The pub was not especially busy, so I really think something, whether it be people or systems is not working correctly.

Went for some drinks. Really nice shaded beer garden (no grass). Booths and comfortable seating. Although not independent, staff are really nice and the pub itself is unusual, quirky and quite big. Includes parking. Wide selection of both food and drink. Hard to fault. Has atmosphere and doesn’t feel staged. Good lunchtime go to.

Environment is very good. But I don't know whether the number of staff is not enough, it takes long time to have our order items in happy hour.

Burgers are dreadfully dry and be warned that if you use the app to order drinks the owner may complain at you (after you've paid)

Nice place for dinner near some office parks in North Cambridge. I had a lovely beyond meat burger with chips, along with a little attention from one of their cute pub cats.

We really enjoyed our visit. We came for lunch on Sunday. The staff was very friendly and pleasant. We came on bikes, so we opted to sit in the garden (there was a place for bikes). It wasn't very busy, and it was peaceful. The garden is very nicely decorated and quite big with plenty of seating. There was plenty of parking too. The interior of the pub looked very lovely, the toilets were clean. The food was really delicious and we didn't have to wait long for it. Portions are quite big and reasonably priced. We are definitely going to come back in the future.

It was a great evening experience in golden hind, especially with dishes like their mixed grill, crispy buffalo fries, and the mouthwatering hot honey chicken burger, complete with perfectly cooked chips and crispy onion rings. Their drinks pitchers are perfect for sharing and feature a great selection to complement any meal. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. The service is impeccable, with friendly and attentive staff ensuring a delightful and memorable visit every time.

A bit tired looking but neither-the-less a nice pub. The staff are kind and helpful and the food prices are brilliant.

I came to the Golden Hind with some friends for food and drinks. We were served by Charlene, she was bubbly, friendly, and made us laugh lot. She was very helpful with explaining drinks, the service was speedy, and very accommodating.

I regularly come to this establishment and have been in many other Grenne King pubs but they don't quite have the same kind of vibes as here. This has to be the best Grenne King Pub around. I have always been made to feel welcome by customers and staff which is unlike many other Grenne King pubs I am Special needs and they take the time to make me feel like one of them. I come here to watch football and have food. Breakfast which is something new and is absolutely lovely and also for the main menu. Simon the chef is one of the best around. The service by the bar Staff Lou, JM, Charlene and Marie (Sorry if I forgot anyone) is always at a top standard. The landlord is great too Thanks Richard for creating such a great pub. I want to support cask ale, and I love that there's wide choice here. Thanks! Though I have been bitten more than anywhere else in Cambridge by beer just slightly on the turn - which I tend to be sensitive to. Most recently a slightly sour note to the London Glory if that helps track down whether it's just age or a storage issue. Sorry I didn't mention at the time. Recently went for a visit and had there lunch menu with some friends. It was quiet as we where first when opened, it soon picked up which made such a great atmosphere! The Manager and lady who served Leah? was brilliant and polite. He checked on us a few times as was hidden from the bar and engaged with humour and witt. Every interaction we had with the staff was amazing! And felt so welcome! The fold we received was quality of the price we paid, which is a great deal! Would recommend as the venue itself is just incredible, especially the outside with huts and a beautiful pergola 10/10

Not the fanciest pub in Cambridge, but good affordable food and drink and good vibes.

I accidentally ordered food to this pub when I was actually in a different pub. The chef made the food and then drove it to me down the road. Great service

Always a friendly welcome and great service nothing is too much for the staff. A good selection of ales. I come in with my partner and it’s always a good atmosphere the landlord always has a smile and a welcome. The staff are a credit to the pub. The food is always of a great standard. I come in to this pub with my partner when we visit. Its always been great!! I've always loved the food! The atmosphere is fantastic! Reminds me of the good old days. The land lord is like what you used to see years ago! He engages with everyone. He is present most days and is always up for a giggle and getting to know new people. It's rare I find a good old fashion pub! The mix of people in there is also great, everyone is friendly, people get to know eachother playing pool or darts. Genuinely one of my favourite pubs to go to when I visit from time to time. The staff have always been fun friendly and energetic too.

The Golden Hind reminded me of the great drinking emporia that we used to enjoy in the east end of London in the seventies. It was massive, and heaving with revellers of all kinds. I ate there with my wife and two friends before visiting the most excellent Cambridge Folk Club which was upstairs. The food was absolutely as good as it could be for little more than a tenner each. My picture shows what I thought of my fish and chips! Also, the young woman that served us was brilliant - helpful and very cheerful. Lovely.

Visited for a few drinks and dinner. The overall atmosphere was pleasant, and the service was prompt, possibly due to it being self-service. While we ordered two dinners, one took a bit longer to arrive, and unfortunately, no explanation was provided. We had to go to the bar to check on our dinner.

Been here regularly with my son. Extremely busy, no doubt Christmas celebrations, but we were told food orders were taking 45 minutes. After an hour and 10 minutes were told somebody would chase it up. Sometime later we ask again. Food appeared within 10 minutes and to put it nicely was awful. Clearly had been thrown together in the kitchen because they were too busy, serving other people who arrived after we did. Overcooked, virtually inedible, but we were hungry! Get one star because of the staff who are unfailingly helpful and try very hard. Sorry, but if you want that many people, you need more chefs. I doubt we will be back. Pity. We’ve had good times there.

Daughter and I had a simple lunch here on Sunday, decent enough for the price, served hot. Staff were friendly. There was Free WiFi (the Cloud) and free parking. It'd probably be wise to book a table if you have more than two in your group.

Friday midday, popped in with a group of 10 colleagues, no reservation - but we still got a table, and our orders were taken very quickly. Food was nice and good value. Sizeable portions.

We don’t often go out to lunch however we met some friends in Cambridge and we were a group of five. We thought it would be nice to have some lunch together and found the Golden Hind. We ordered three small plates, some additional tacos , a salad and a gluten-free sandwich with two portions of chips. None of which came out at the same time. In fact there was 20 minutes between the first and last plate arriving with a portion of chips being forgotten. Eventually, when our food arrived, it was cold and two members of the table had finished their lunch. We sent the food back and a portion of chips came out immediately- by now everybody else on the table had finished their lunch except for our order. The replacement was at least warm but overall we were very disappointed.

Lou is fantastic! Whatever you are paying her, it's not enough!!

This is not a review of the whole pub, but just highlighting one aspect. However, unavoidable inference is that the management have let the Gents toilets fall into state of disrepair. Basically, both locks on single men’s cubicle are broken, toilet seat is very loose and moves, fitting behind toilet cistern is tatty, tiling is broken by side of wall of urinal section, hand dryer is sitting askew at sharp angle hanging from wall, window fitting looks very tired, and fittings under sinks look very tatty (as if laminate were pulled off to expose cheap plywood or whatever). A handyman could likely fix all this in an hour or so, and for not every much expenditure. How long each of those items have been like that, I don’t know, but if they are sitting at the bottom of a to-do list, I should think it is about time to get on and fix them.

Came to The Golden Hind on a Friday night with the lads and was welcomed by all 4 of the friendly, Friday Girls. Service was prompt and the Girls pour a mean Baby Guinness! Would recommend to anyone coming out for a drink with friends

Probably up there with the worst meal I have ever had. Took about an hour for gammon chips and peas to be served. Gammon was undercooked and the chips were hardly warm. Ordered dessert only to be told that they didn't have the ingredients for the dessert! Was told by the guy behind the bar "that's the hospitality business " well I'm afraid that you should leave it. My friend Ordered 2 drinks and the guy behind the bar only served 1 and denied my friend even Ordered it even though another guy drinking at the bar said he heard my friend. If you think about going here DON'T!!
