Browns-Cambridge in Cambridge

Food choices limited at lunchtime. A few items off menu which makes me wonder how they will cope with dinner service if run out by lunchtime? Service excellent. We are regular customers about once a month. If next visit isn't better we will look elsewhere. A shame as we have been coming since the late 1980s. But its isn't what it was unfortunately...

Lovely bottomless brunch experience! Pietro was on it.. we were never waiting for anything. Champagne was full 100% of the time! But he also was not overwhelming. Will definitely be back!

I went here with a friend of mine for the afternoon tea. Nice experience overall. Free tea refill, but a little bit too expensive for the quantity and quality of food - especially the cakes were nothing special, and the sponge cake in particular was quite dry, as if it was not really fresh but had 1 or 2 days. The location is wonderful and the service quite fast.

Angelo and Andy are phenomenal. Great food, service and atmosphere.

We had the seafood platter which was excellent- the scallops were cooked to perfection! The surf and turf to share was also excellent. The 1 star lost is for adding seeds to the sticky toffee pudding. The seeds tasted like garlic and I thought had accidentally been added, but the waitress said this is how it is served. Made the delicious pudding quite unenjoyable: Service from each server was lovely, but because we didn’t seem to have a named server, we were served by 5 different wait staff. This meant we were asked 4 different times if our food was ok, and waited to order and waited for dessert menus. It’s better to have one server for continuity. Lovely atmosphere and beautiful decor.

Food was lovely. However, the service was slow, especially as it was only 4pm. We had to ask for water a few times before we got it. Nonetheless, the food was amazing and I had a nice time celebrating my birthday.

Went with 2 others who only picked this place to try the afternoon tea. We didn't know until after ordering drinks that the tea had to be booked in advance (it doesn't mention on the menu). They both had steak tartare they describe as "bland, too chunky and suspiciously grey" (I read if steak tartare is refrigerated after prep, it goes grey. So it shouldn't be. If it was, shame on you). I got the Browns burger. I was told there are 2 - beef or halloumi. I ask for beef. I get halloumi. They take it back, get me beef only to find you commit the cardinal sin of dumping mayo on your burger without even mentioning it on the menu, which I hate. At this point I give up, put up with it since its quite bland anyway and I'm not waiting even longer to hang around. For £17 I'm past thinking it's ever worth it. The other two had duck. it was fine. After the order mess up we got 2 apologies and nothing else, then when we get the bill we want the service charge removing, which apparently required the server to check with the manager and printing another receipt. In all we didn't die but not good for the money or in general, and I get the impression staff were not fully trained, but more avoidably: - If it's on the plate, list it in your damn menu - If it's advanced booking only, list it in your damn menu or the server should make clear before anything is ordered.

Lovely venue and the menu selection is good. We were very disappointed with the service and food. Service wise, it took 45 minutes from being seated to getting a drink and in total 1 hr to get starters - that we pre-ordered. Food was mostly alright, nothing amazing though, the steak and fries I got were over salted and I never got the peppercorn sauce :( one of us pointed out that they had a nut allergy - somethint we told them during pre-ordering - and they could see nuts on their dessert. The waiter made a massive deal about it, accusing them of being wrong . And then came back in a huff with a new plate saying, "I know there were no nuts, but for your peace of mind we've got another plate for you " which i guess is something, but could have done without the gaslighting and attitude 🤷‍♂️

Well we arrived nearly 30 mins early but that was no problem. They let us select the table we liked (as it was my birthday!). The staff were amazing throughout the entire time, everyone so helpful and friendly, especially the blonde with the pretty nails! The food was just so fresh and tasty, eveything was just perfect and we cannot wait to visit again :)

This was a disappointing meal cooked without love. Yes, a gluten free menu, but the sea bass fillet was small, there was none of the promised horseradish, and the fennel if there was completely tasteless, so it was bland, without the flavours I was looking forward to. Wonderful to have a gf chocolate fondant, the cherries, all 4 of them, were lovely, but the fondant was too cold for the ice cream to melt into a sauce.

Lovely food and attentive service from Salvador

For an establishment of this Brasserie the toilets were absolutely disgusting. Also, not once we're we asked was everything OK or did we need anything. Our bill came to over £300 and it just wasn't worth the money. The bread was dry on the sandwiches.

Note the fish pie is no longer being served!! However, the menu still boasts plenty of delicious options. Just a little walk outside of the main town center, Browns is a fantastic place for lunch if you’re in Cambridge. We ate off their special menu of the week and found the duck bonbons and crispy fish absolutely delicious. Would go again for lunch or dinner. Book ahead for larger parties to ensure seating even though the place is big.

We went for afternoon tea with some younger family members. We all had a great time. The hot chocolate was perfect according to one of the children. Both the Earl Grey and the English Breakfast tea are highly recommended and we had several refills. The sandwiches, scones and cakes were beautifully presented. All in all it was a memorable occasion for all the best reasons. Browns is just opposite the Fitzwilliam museum in an elegant Old Addenbrookes hospital building with flat access.

The restaurant is beautiful! Very nicely decorated and clean. It’s bright and airy with high ceilings. Very nice. A groups of 4 adults and 3 kids we went at 6pm on Easter Sunday and it was pretty much empty. Maybe 5 other small tables. Our server didn’t seem to be serving any other tables. Despite this her service was mediocre at best. When I arrived they asked if there were any allergies and I said I had an allergy to mushrooms. She assured me they would be very careful and let the kitchen know. When we placed our orders I ordered the crispy mozzarella and tomatoes and the Sunday roast beef dinner. She said that was fine, no mushrooms. She took all the orders of the table and went off. The starters came out and I was not impressed by the mozzarella and tomatoes. The tomatoes were way over ripe and mushy and mealy tasting and the fried mozzarella was gross - tasted a lot like cheap mozzarella sticks you get in a bar. Not high end place. She cleared the starters and 20 minutes went by and she returned to tell me the chef had realized there were in fact mushrooms used in the gravy for the roast so I couldn’t have it and asked if I would like to order something else. I had been an hour since we placed our order!!! How does that happen. The waitress had gone to check with the chef after taking our orders and assured me there were no mushrooms. The timing was terrible because the rest of the table’s entres were ready to be served. The waitress asked if she could serve the others which i obviously said yes. I ordered a burger hoping it would be quick. It came out as everyone was 2/3rd of the way finished. The bacon was almost raw on it - it was just slightly warmed. So gross. I asked her to take it back and have it cooked to crispy as bacon should be. It has 3 dinky slices of cheese on it, not covering the patty at all and barely melted. The lettuce was browning and wilted and the tomato slice was mealy. I had specified no sauces on the burger - no mayo, mustard, ketchup or anything else but when I bit into it the taste of mustard was overpowering. There was definitely mustard on the bun, it was bright yellow. I told the server and instead of her taking the burger back to the kitchen she said she would “go ask the chef if there was any” she came back saying “there wasn’t mustard” which was just false. I sent the burger back because it was gross.. Super disappointed. So I had no meal for dinner. My daughter had wanted the penne from the kids menu with the sauce on the side but we were told that wasn’t possible because the pasta is made ahead of time and already mixed with the sauce - WHAT?! It isn’t made fresh to order? That’s bonkers. Does it come from a can?!? They couldn’t make her plane penne because they “didn’t have any in the kitchen” they finally offered a different type of noodle they could cook for her and give it to her plain, but they couldn’t give her any tomato sauce. Makes me question what they are serving children. Since I didn’t have any dinner I was starving so I ordered the brownie dessert. It was supposed to come with honeycomb ice cream, it came with vanilla. I asked and the server brought me some of the proper ice cream. It tasted like vanilla too but had one tiny flake of the fake honeycomb candy that comes in Crunchie chocolate bars in Canada. While they didn’t charge me for the burger, i thought they would at least give me my dessert for free after the night i had been put through. But no. They did no such thing. All in all it was a VERY disappointing experience. Save your money, eat somewhere else. I guess the empty restaurant on an Easter Sunday should have been my first clue this was not a great place to eat.

We visited Cambridge and at lunch, my daughter and her partner took us to a nice place for lunch. The place was nice and the food was outstanding as much as the service. It was a pleasent atmosphere and enjoyable. Highly recommended.

Really nice restaurant and bar area with a buzzy atmosphere in a Saturday night over Easter weekend. Food was fine … nothing amazing to rave about. Unfortunately, my salt and pepper squid starter was heavily breadcrumbed, dry, tough and not pleasant to eat (so sent it back and asked for Padron Peppers instead - which were way better). My partner’s Burger was standard. My Fish & Chips thankfully was good. (Did me worried after the squid starter). Staff were extremely attentive and friendly. Table position was fine (my seat was facing near the entrance to the restrooms … it was OK as a separate front dining room was in my direct line of sight (would of perferred to be seated elsewhere - was content enough though!)

Went yesterday with my husband for the first time. We only had a drink but the atmosphere inside is amazing and the staff is very polite and helpful. A bit expensive compared to others, but it's absolutely worth it 👌

I have been coming to browns for years now, and I must say it is a go to place! The food is amazing, the atmosphere is incredible, and the servers are superb! Our server today was Abby, and she made us feel so welcome, even going as far as bringing us food that wasn’t even on the menu. Thank you all!!!

Fantastic service from Abbie throughout our meal. We had the Sunday roast which was delicious and presented beautifully. I would recommend a visit, worth every penny.

Markó and his team were amazing! They made our experience outstanding and worry free. It was a well-oiled operation. All staff, especially our server Patricio were extremely attentive, attention to detail was a given. A highlight was most definitely the piano player, Daniel, who made our relative's birthday extra special with his choice of music. We will definitely return and I would highly recommend this establishment for any occasion.

Amazing atmosphere and food for our 70th birthday celebrations. We especially liked the live music, and some songs requests that the pianist, Daniel had learned especially for us at such short notice. Patricio our waiter was fantastic and went above and beyond to make our evening extra special!

I was very disappointed on returning to Browns yesterday with an overseas visitor. We ordered bread, olive oil and balsamic vinegar to start, but when it arrived there was no vinegar and the oil was vegetable oil ('We don't use olive oil as it is no good for frying'). The chicken ceasar salad that followed was completely dominated by 8 large anchovies, the chicken tasted of nothing, and the croutons were torn up bits of toasted sliced bread. When I asked for some more parmesan I recived one teaspoon in a tiny dish.

The food was very tasty and detailed calories were provided which was convenient. The environment is beautiful, but the bathroom is a bit dirty.

Excellent experience, celebrated a 60th birthday with my BFFL. Staff were amazing, curtious efficient. Food was amazing. High recommend a visit. Owners should be proud to have the staff they employ.

I had lunch with family on a week day and the food was delicious. The service was slow but that was due to the number of guests. The atmosphere was quite good and welcoming. It is a bit pricy.

We checked out the new Browns in Cambridge and were seriously impressed! The food was delicious and the atmosphere was great—but the highlight of the night was hands down our server, Darren! He was friendly, super attentive, and just really on top of everything. You could tell he genuinely cared about making sure we had a great experience. Service like that makes all the difference! Huge shoutout to Darren—he made our night! We’ll definitely be back😀

We had a lovely lunch here on Saturday 5th April 2025. The building is lovely and the service was excellent. We were father and daughter and we really liked the server, but we cannot remember her name! She was blonde and cheerful and really responded well to my Dad's favourite activity in restaurants - having banter with the waiting staff! He was very impressed by her and told her she was in the right profession. She had small tattoos on her ear and I think some piercings there, too. All in all, a lovely experience.

Went in on a Sunday with my date: the service was spot on - had the chicken schnitzel with chips. Hot drinks were fresh and there was an amazing ambience due to the live piano music. 10/10

The service here is superb!! We have dined off the British Classics set menu which is great value. The dishes are well presented and delicious. I highly recommend Browns Cambridge.
