Not a relaxing dining experience, booked a table for two on Easter Sunday to meet a friend who lives locally. Really was no need as fairly empty at 1pm - despite this was not able to change table from the one reserved. Had just about taken my coat off when we were asked to order. Roast was ok but nothing special and given that I felt the manager/landlady was watching every mouthful I ate I found the whole experience rather off putting. It wasn’t as though they needed to table for another sitting. We stayed awhile longer in the bar area for a chat which is why I have rated it 3 as the bar staff were friendly enough. If I was just to rate the dining it would have been a 2. The fact that it’s located in a highly residential area with little to no direct competition the empty tables on an Easter Sunday probably speaks volumes.

Arrived a bit earlier before our booking, we were fitted straight away, BUT we had to wait 40min + to get our food. Food was frozen, not a fresh roast, which you would expect especially for an Easter Sunday. I have ordered a pork roast - it was dry, cold carrots and bland in general. I didn't comment as we were with friends and didn't want to make a scene, but definitely I would't go back!

We are visiting our Daughter and Grandson from New Zealand and popped along for lunch on Saturday. The pub itself is absolutely charming. Very friendly staff greeted us when we arrived and settled us down at our reserved table where there was already a highchair waiting for our 18 month old. Service was swift and they offered to take our order at the table as we had the toddler with us. We were brought colouring pencils and paper without asking We ordered Chilli and Beer Battered Haloumi all was well cooked and yummy. This is good un-fancy pub grub. Very nice pub. Highly recommended.

Warm welcome here for Sunday lunch. Tje whole place is dog friendly, ample parking and staff were attentive. Meals were reasonable, nothing groundbreaking but very generous portions (especially the desserts) and a decent selection of roasts. Would look to return to try other meals.

Such a shame it's a lovely pub but the owners are very rude. Friends and I met up for a farewell drink approximately 4pm, sat at a table to the rear of the pub, we all ordered several rounds of drinks and spent a fair amount of money. No one in the party was loud or (drunk) only to be told at 5:30pm that we all needed to vacate the tables in case someone wanted to EAT, the table was not reserved. It was obvious that the Landlord did not require our business anymore, that fact that we'd probably spent over £100 behind the bar didn't really matter to him. So we won't be visiting the establishment in the future! Pubs are closing around the country at an alarming rate every day, this pub is obviously doing so well that they turn away clients at will!!

I went in with my family today for a Sunday roast really exited as I haven’t had one for a while and I was really surprised with the customer service as well as the food. From the moment we walked in after reserving a table and being told it was externally busy and wasn’t sure if we could be accommodated but we’re grateful to be squeezed in, the pub was nearly empty and we’re met with a member of staff who didn’t even acknowledge us, we said our names and the waitress said nothing but walked us to our table no smile or any contact, which was really weird. We sat down and she walked away. This happens through the whole experience and I noted it was the same with the rest of the staff on each table. Still really excited for my roast I had high expectations, but the food was bland and surprisingly not edible, I had the chicken and it was rock solid and couldn’t even cut into it, it was so dried out! The swede mash had seeds in it and just seemed fussy and ruined it.. all in all it seemed very over priced for what was received, add in terrible customer service and it was a shocking meal experience. I was going to speak to whom I assumed were the owners about how I felt but they seemed they were in the same attitude as the rest of the staff. Extremely unapproachable. I definitely won’t be eating there again and only writing this to suggest people avoid a terrible atmosphere while dining..

Ratings purely on the following... So if you wish to laugh and have fun don't come here. Unbelievable that one table, of five grown up, professional, courteous people cannot chat and reminiss, without being asked to keep it down! as we were disturbing an empty (possibly three other customers), pub. Sometimes people shouldn't be so quick to tell customers to be quite when they are out. Three at this table, myself included, were reminiscing about my grandparents with a friend and her partner. The three of us that were there, tragically lost a son/brother last year and we don't all live in the same place & don't see each other that often. Sitting down with friends, relaxing and chatting was brought to a very abrupt and rude end, when we were asked to be quiet. Weirdly enough we were just finishing our drinks and we're leaving the pub, approx 5 minutes later. The landlord was exceptionally rude and I've found out since, when I've spoken about this to friends, I've been advised he has done this before many times. Well I won't be going back, the money I spent I'd rather give to another establishment than to this rude, unfriendly man. Very disappointed is an understatement, what was a lovely eve, turned into something quite different thanks to this man 😩

We were all sitting at our designated tables of no more than 6,as requested. He cane over and said that everyone must stay seated and if we don’t like it we can leave.!At this point, some of our party had ordered food( don’t bother.. it’s not worth it) so we really couldn’t leave. The bar staff just ignored me when I stood at the bar attempting to buy a bottle of wine to accompany our meal. They were more interested in talking about their boyfriends than serving. The menu is very tired and lacks imagination. Okay if you like burger and chips or chicken and chips but McDonalds or KFC is far better value. I have eaten here many times in the past and found it to be an ok place, nothing special but fairly good value for money. This time it was really disappointing - we waited for over half an hour for our food. This has happened in the past (once, they forgot our order!). They have a notice to say that food is prepared to order so might take a little time, but it's not cooked from scratch, so 30 minutes seems way too long. Staff were not particularly friendly at all, not one of them smiled. The food was average but the macaroni cheese was SO bad. It had no creamy sauce, it was really dry and hardly cheesy at all. At £10.50 this was really bad value. For 3 adults and one toddler, with no alcoholic drinks, the bill was 95p short of £50.

Maybe we just caught the kitchen on a bad day. Service was slow (about 30 mins to take food order and long waits after that and between orders). No offer of taking drinks orders at the table so we had to order from the bar.Overall we enjoyed our evening but if based just on quality of food and service then wouldn't give more than 2 stars

Happily tucking into our meal this evening to be very rudely and abruptly TOLD we had to move as we were sitting in the area for people there doing the quiz. We were herded out of our seats like cattle, and then a second member off staff came along (male) who also told us he’d found us another table and that we needed to move there and then! I can only assume it was the manager who approach us and told us to move this evening, well she needs to learn some manners and attend a customer service course, because her customers service skills were zero. Needless to say will not be returning. Bar staff could also learn some customer services skills/manners, so maybe they could all attend together!

Been in woolpack tonight with old friends. Having read very negative reviews was a little worried about taking friends out. But service was excellent friendly and professional. Food was hot and very tasty. Good night out out

We have eaten here several times and enjoyed the food and atmosphere. There was a friendly welcome and a good menu range to choose from. Outside there is a nice play area for kids.

Lovely staff, atmosphere, quizzes, and lets not forget the scrummy Sunday roasts. A proper pub, if only it was within walking distance!!!

Never known a pub to be so strict on noise levels both inside and outside. Yes they have bands sometimes but if you are even laughing too loud you will be told to be quiet or invited to leave.

This is a cosy well decorated restuarant/pub but is totally ruined by the rude and extrnely unfriendly landlord and landlady. Beware if you like a traditioal pub atmosphere and friendly banter Its more like walking into a library where you literally get told off for speaking

I had lunch here today and was served by a very lovely man who helped serves us along with a very kind woman. We were here for about 30/45 minutes and their card machine had a malfunction and the man called the manager down to sort it out. She was shouting and screaming about how busy she was and how she shouldn’t have cane downstairs to sort the situation out and was so rude to her members of staff. I was absolutely shocked and didn’t want any of food after that. Externally unprofessional and clearly a horrible person to work for! A few moments after that I Realised a member of staff had their family in, how embarrassing must that have been for him? Disgusting behaviour from a “senior” member of staff. Now i have been in many places and it’s been packed busy and no manager however stressed they are would never ever treat their staff like this! Don’t me a manager if you’ll treat your staff so ill

Disappointing that landlady Dee seems to feel annoyed by her customers. I will not be returning with visitors as I am embarrassed by the lack of hospitality that I regularly experience. This includes the 'reserving' of all tables so that patrons can not sit anywhere and presumably move on? Tables are empty for hours.

We booked a wake here the food was nowhere near worth the £438 we paid for it the landlord started coming round at 8pm saying the kids had to go. They had a band playing and some of the family were clapping along etc...

My mother, daughter and I went here recently on the hottest day of the year. We hadn’t been for just over a year due to relocating but we went back for nostalgia. It must of changed hands. Once a lovely meal in great surroundings and excellent service has now turned into the opposite.......except the surroundings of course! My mother and daughter had the fish and chips from the vastly reduced menu. We struggled to find the fish on the plate and the skinniest burnt fries were something you expect from the reduced bargain bucket in Iceland. My ploughman’s lunch faired better but not worth the price I paid. Service was ok but the innuendo comment in my absence was a bit awkward.....I’ll leave that to your imagination..... I won’t go back.....left a bad taste in the mouth after the great times we’ve had there before....but not as bad as the taste in the mouth after trying the “chips”.....

After a social drink with an old school friend at the bar and seeing all the food served I decided to have a family meal out here, a mixed group (8)of ages including 2 vegetarians the waitress was very charming and extremely efficient. We had a wide variety of dishes which was presented well and tasted great definitely worth a try.

I visited today with my Dad and son for a last minute lunch. Emily welcomed us warmly at the check in and although we hadn’t booked she found us a table. When I asked about bringing my dog in she explained about the dog friendly area and showed me the doggie station which was well stocked with water bowls, blankets and treats available for a donation to MacMillan. The lunch menu was reasonably priced and the food was delicious. We were so impressed with the service today. Thank you Emily and Angie for looking after us.

Great little costa coffee shop tucked away in the heart of Haywards Heath. Exceptional service and the staff is always warm and welcoming. Lovely atmosphere and to it all off, the flat white is always on point:))

We met at the pub for a girls xmas dinner. The staff were really accomodating as we had people coming and going at different times. They were also super dog friendly, including dog biscuits and water bowls brought to the table. The human food was good. Hopefully the menu will change with the seasons. 🤞

We have known and stayed at Ockenden Manor since 1975. Staff are superb. The catering, however, has now moved into the pretentious category with a menu that is specialised, limited in range and depth and wine list which is a tad removed from normality. Ockenden Manor is lovely but no longer a reasonable restaurant experience.
