Really great venue..friendly staff

Lovely place, and decent vegan food

Went to a family reception here. The staff was helpful and friendly and we enjoyed ourselves. They have a lovely little garden area that leads off the room. The only thing that let's it down is the disabled toilets was a fair distance to get too from the room.

Great serving staff friendly and polite can’t fault the ladies 5 stars Visited today told 30 min wait that turned into over 1 hour and as I’m pregnant after a longggger than expected wait started to feel dizzy. I asked the staff how much longer as we had waited an extra 30 mins then expected and they said they would put it through asap given my situation as we was 4 left in the queue so was going to be an even longer wait had I not said anything. 0 stars Food came out and was ok but the flatbread was burnt maybe as they rushed it through so didn’t eat. Shame as £50 is a lot of money to throw away. 2 stars Been here before and had nice food think it’s hit and miss depending on time of day

Great location and good food for a good price. Pleasant service on bar and waiters. Very noisy as full but quietened of later, not restaurant fault but be aware if looking for a quiet romantic meal.

OK, I've not been here for at least 35 years. But felt I'd come h9me it's still a warm feeling when you enter. Staff are brilliant friendly food was good. Its a good place for a quiet night out

I attended a friend's birthday meal here and was not impressed, the food wasn't very good and the staff were rude. With one telling us we had to hurry with our meal as they had another party coming and they needed the tables. They seriously need to get some training in customer service, I wouldn't recommend this place.

Gorgeous hotel. Lovely helpful bar staff. Great food and welcoming locals. We will stay here if we are using Msncgester airport in the future. We had booked the Travel lodge on this occasion but much prefer here and worth the additional cost

Had a lovely meal with family in the restaurant. Had meatball flatbread and shared a side of dirty fries...the meatballs were great but the dirty fries stole the show for me! There'd been an issue with the table reservation but the staff were great and got us seated quickly. Would go again for sure!

Nice place to stay,food poor ,nice bar, helpful and friendly staff but NOT THE KITCHEN STAFF.Do not go here if you have allergies they were told two weeks before and reminded on the day BUT THE KITCHEN TOTALLY MESSED UP wouldn't recommend this place if you have allergies

Could not get a cup of tea, they served coffee to the tables, but said I had to go to another bar, afternoon staff came on and I got my tea, no problem, I am disabled and was quite upset, but the buffet was amazing, and so was the afternoon staff, but I was pleasant enough but the lady must of been awkward with tea drinkers, ( or me) it didn't spoil my day there, but I won't forget her rudeness, my money was as good as everyone else's, but I will pre warn future guests, someone said she was the manager, well she needs people skills if she was, but it won't stop me visiting again, x

Historic old pub this one, probably the most famous Joey Holt's pub as it's where the family used to live. Does food, has a lot of facilities like parking, Sky Sports, outside terrace, as well as rooms for those staying over. It's also yet another Prestwich pub with links to The Fall - Ghost in my House video was filmed here back in the 80s.

We visited as it was dog friendly & after visiting Heaton park on a Saturday afternoon. The dog friendly area definitely needs tables that fits more than 3. Little round tables not great when we were squeezed together. A good selection of food. Appealing. The food took 1hr to arrive. Was delicious full of flavour risotto.presented well. The place is under staffed. A few tweaks and they could gain the 5 star 🌟

Lovely pub,really cosy and a lot of history. The food is below par.oven chips/fries and doenst always taste fresh.think a lot of it is pre made and refrigerated.but I have had experiences of it tasting a bit old.i think it’s expensive for what they serve up,also there’s an older lady that works there not sure if she is a manager or something but she is extremely rude and arrogant.i left my menu at the bar and she stomped over to the table gave me a filthy look and put it back in the slot.never experienced anything like that before it was rather strange.and made me uncomfortable.the building itself is the appeal,but won’t be paying for food from here again.

Disappointing there’s only Holts’ lager on draught.

A great place to gather with family and friends. Lots of different dining areas to choose from (Inc outdoors) with tables to suite couples up to large groups. A variety of different food on the menu with something to suit everybody. Lovely, friendly staff.

Lovely unique pub great beers great landlady, great service, what more could you want.

Stayed overnight midweek, lovely super king bedroom, very clean comfy bed bathroom and linens all spotless, good welcome tray and kettle was super clean too. Nice decor my only criticism is that as it such a lovely big room another chair would be good as 1 chair 2 people not ideal. We had a pleasant meal in the bar and the staff looked after us very well indeed, our bags were carried up to our room on arrival which was very helpful

Poor, had to wait 1 3/4 hours to receive our meal and then one meal was not as requested. All the fault of the kitchen, waiters were fine. Just a crap kitchen.

We called ahead to ask if there was a gluten free menu as there isn't any information on the website, we were told yes. Then upon arriving we asked for the gluten free menu and were given a folder of all the allergens, not easy to read through at all and only one thing on the entire menu suitable for gluten free. Gluten free is not a choice, it's a medical allergy and usually service regarding this is better. Disappointed as we wasted time when we had called to check. Atmosphere in carpeted area okay, other areas shabby and although listed as dog friendly, they can only go in certain areas which were already full of unfriendly dogs.

Food usually ok 19/08/2024 however a different story my family and I had a meal which took an hour to arrive complained to bar staff who replied we are busy if that was busy you shouldn't be in this type of job when the food arrived we'd asked for a steak medium to well done it's was that rare you could've thrown it back in the field and slapped it's arse and it would've still been alive,the ciabatta steak meal was pathetic the chips had been under the lamp too long and gone stiff quit inedible in total a meal which took 3 hours from start to finish should've been 2 hours tops upto this point I highly rated your pub I suggest you sack your chef and start again.

Went to have a couple drinks and a meal Lad on bar helpfull and polite .. All went downhill after being served It was like being at crufts Dogs barking non stop Getting in way of waitresses .. about 8 dogs But nothing said or done By owners or staff .. Let the Dogs Have place I think if u need to take dogs with you They should behave If that were kids summat would been said We had drink and left no food Wont be returning And place smelt doggy ....

Hit and miss with food here. Sometimes it's good last night was poor. Cold fries on wife's order. My chips and beans were just about warm. Pie was very hot. So looks like it was plated up and left for a while. Presentation was awful. Reminded me of school dinners. 40 min wait when the place wasn't overly busy. Had to ask for cutlery. Nobody checked during our meal if everything was OK. Had some nice meals here before and some average ones. Can't fault the beer or atmosphere. Beautiful pub with plenty of parking. Won't chance eating here again though. That's twice recently we've been dissatisfied. We tried the Sunday lunch recently and that was excellent. Needs consistency.

Great service the staff are belting, foods good and the beer is reasonably priced. The huts in the beer garden are a greatvaddition too

Went there with my friends and our kids, it was a sunny afternoon and we enjoyed dining outdoor, it wasn’t so busy. Loved the food, i think it’s reasonably priced too. I like the location and there was free parking

Don't serve cakes (guess you still go to Slatterys) any more but the booths outside are an amazing seating alternative.

If I could leave a 1 star I would. I don't like leaving bad reviews, I never go out for a meal as I work in a pub myself and always working. Came out with my friends. Waited an hour for my food for it then to come out without being told the main ingredient wasn't avaible and had to find out myself. Then instead of being refunded and offered something else the good was taken away from me aggressively with cash then handed back with no consideration.

I'm giving a 2 star as the staff are lovely and very accommodating. Food is a no go medium steak burned, Featherblade steak like a rock. Very unfortunate as came a few months ago and food was lovely. Holts need to buck up as this is a nice pub with great staff but will soon lose customers as the food is shocking. Joseph holt would be embarrassed at this food.

Great pup , great atmosphere, the cryst gold is a very good pint of lager and the staff are friendly too.. lovely to sit outside when the sun's out...highly recommend

Went on a Thursday which is advertised as curry night... didn't have the curry I wanted off the curry menu!? So you know chef Mike is busy warming frozen meals up. Also, you can not substitute rice for chips, so I had to order chips extra. Then had to pay an extra £5 to change the meal even though it was their fault they didn't have all the curry's they advertise on curry night. Got a steak instead. Tasted like nothing and the chips were bog standard. Could have gone to wetherspoons, and it would have tasted better and half the price with a drink. Also, the staff were questioning why we wanted the bill when food, which we didn't order, came to the table. Bad first and last experience.

Slow service, food came wrong, no scraps with the fish and chips, chips just warm. Pay attention to the payment as deals don’t go through and you will pay more

Beautiful pub, lots of parking, great function room for sizeable events. Food is really nice.

Historical building and beautifully kept.

Good food , nice atmosphere only one down side we found felt slightly rushed as soon as one of us had finished eating plates where been taken away while the rest of the group where still eating, all in all if was passing again would eat here again

The manager takes on young staff uses them with low pay then sacks them with no warning. Unprofessional

Gaynor & Gary went above and beyond for our family funeral last week. They accommodated us all so well and their thoughtfulness and amazing service meant that it was the best send off. Would highly recommend. Thank you so much.

Good food, great staff, good room fabulous afternoon

Nice place although very expensive. Didn't stay as a guest of the hotel, simply had drinks with friends .. 3 drinks (pint bitter, 330ml bottle of Moretti and a glass of red wine) and a packet of nuts= £18.00 The most confusing thing was, three rounds and three different prices 🤷

Food is fabulous, never disappoints. My fav pub 😍 staff are always very friendly and welcoming too 👌

Great place to drink and meet up with friends. Super outside space with bench tables and a canopy area to the side. I had fish and chips sadly it wasn't the best I've had! That said the menu is good, the staff are great! The four stars are for the holts bitter!

Called at a dinnertime for a drink. It was quite. Very smart and staff attentive. Would have no hesitation in calling again.

Visited for food. Whilst the food was lovely we waited over an hour for it. Wait staff all seem very stressed, but did manage the situation well and were friendly.

Ordered a small dish of chicken skewers, I didn’t expect it to be 2 tiny pieces of chicken for £7! Caesar salad was vile, tasted like chemicals and the food took over an hour to arrive and most of the order was mixed up but everyone was too hungry to send it back. Kids meals were dry and bland. Shame because the young staff are lovely but the older woman who served us was incredibly rude. Second time I’ve been now and been served by the same rude person and the food has been poor. In a nice local spot but don’t think we will be returning, over priced, some rude stuff and bad management 😕

Had a lovely lunch here today. Warm welcome from staff and a delicious Chicken tikka flatbread. The quality of the food and the value was really good.

It took an hour to get our food everything was warm nearly cold

Went here to watch the football and to have food. Got to the bar to order at 19:58 at the same time as a resident who also wanted to order food, we were both told that the kitchen closes at 8 and the chef had already packed up. I said but its still 19:59 and I have been here a good minute or so. The resident asked where he could now get food from as he was staying at the hotel, the lady said she would go ask the chef. A minute later she came back and said that the resident could have food but i couldn't. A bit out of order cosidering i was technically there before him and before 8 and they were going to open the kitchen for the resident anyway. We bought drinks and watched the football, i ordered a chinese from uber because i was hungry, maybe not the right way to go about it but i had purchased stuff in their bar and have also eaten there numerous times before. The landlady came in and told me i couldnt eat there as it was a premises that sold food, i said i know that but you wouldn't serve me 2 minutes before closing time and im hungry, i did attempt to purchase food from you. She said no so i told her that i would eat in my car in the car park and come back to sit with my boyfriend after who was watching the football, she then told me i could not eat on the premises at all. I mean seriously, in my own car, really? Maybe next time she should honour the opening times on her website and treat every customer the same, with professionalism. Nowhere on the website does it say 'after 19:58, the kitchen is only open for residents' .

Great looking buildings, that's hides beautiful places inside. Great food, polite staff, near the park. There is not much to say. Everything is as it spouse to be! :)

Nothing flash, no gimmicks but you get what you'd expect to get, a nice meal in good surroundings. The staff remind me of a good football referee who runs the game well but you hardly know he's there!

Our first time hear with my husband & mother in law for lunch was realy Impressed the food & was delicious well worth the money the staff were very helpful & polite we will definitely come back thank you for a lovely afternoon all the staff at the woodthorpe.

Gothic awesomeness ,it's a fact Joseph Holts the master brewer used this huge gothicmansion for home early on after the success....even if you don't drink. Try food and soak in the history you are bequeathed with in the area....it would work with a decent menu..

What a transformation. Haven't been for years. Quite posh now. Pricey but stylish.
