Would not recommend, the staff was ignorant, dirty and unprofessional. The food wasn’t cooked to our liking and when we complained the manager kicked off and made us feel unwelcome. Which ruined our night. Utterly disgraceful !!!

Really lovely staff with a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Food was really good. Staff were so welcoming to the dog and even gave him a sausage. I would definitely recommend this as a dog and people friendly pub.

Lovely pub/restaurant, great atmosphere landlord and staff were great. Very attentive. Food was delicious. Had our 2 Westies with us which we were allowed to take in. We were made to feel very welcome. Definitely recommend.

Lovely evening at the Woodsman celebrating my nieces 30th birthday. The Woodsman provided a fab buffet and we were able to have the full food area - would definitely recommend for anyone needing a venue for a celebration.

Very disappointing- apparently 2021 was great so booked with family. No Christmas music, no activities for children, no table decorations - in fact a Christmas tree appeared to be the only decoration. Food was so basic - sausage or egg sandwich in 2 slices bread and a mug of coffee- and long wait

Ellie & Carl have done amazing things with this pub in such a short space of time!! The food is outstanding and is a complete turnaround to what it was. the drinks are perfectly served and the beer and Cask is most certainly on point. Certainly the Woodsman is a try if your in the local area or even on the M6 and need a pit stop!! A huge bonus is they have working Electric charging points for your car!!

We were meeting friends and this pub/restaurant was chosen as it was half way between both parties. This pub has recently had a change of management. We were warmly welcomed and and on a quiet evening had a choice of tables. We made our choices from the extensive menu and also ordered drinks. The meals arrived and we're all cooked to our liking. We the ordered desserts and again were served by very pleasant staff. We were very happy by having chosen this pub and will certainly visit again.

Went at midday for Sunday roast. Was told it was chicken and beef. Ordered 2 roast, 1 nutroast and 1 fish and chips. Ten minutes later we were told the beef wouldn't be ready until 4pm. 45 minutes later the food arrived. Roast potatoes looked good but were soggy and cold, the broccoli was hard and cold, nutroast was burnt on the edges, mash was cold. The chick was not a roast just a dry chicken fillet tgat tasted horrid. The lovely staff asked was everything ok but was nit at all surprised when I told them it was absolutely vile and I would not be paying for it. One actually said I don't blame you I'm fed up with it. Never in my life have I not paid for my food no matter what. Hubby ate his fish and chips so said I would pay for that. £21 fir 4 coke and a frozen fish and chips. Absolutely rank

Expensive Ceaser salad £10 without chicken, not nice when my sister found a hair in it, looked like a dog hair. They replaced with a sorry, but no discount or free coffee or desert.

We booked a meal through book a table for 7.30pm we arrived at this time to say the kitchen was closed. Not a problem we were told to take a seat and the menus promptly arrived!! We ordered out meal which was obviously cooked fresh and it was delicious. All the staff on duty were amazing. We were served by a young waitress called Millie an absolute credit to your pub nothing was too much trouble!! Above and beyond you are a credit to the pub. If we ever visit that area again we will definitely pop in. Thank you so much 😊

First time I have visited here and it was lovely, the staff was so accommodating,its a very friendly and relaxed atmosphere, it was spotless clean and all safety measures in place, the food was %100% I went for bacon chops which was a massive portion and delicious will definitely recommend it and I will book to dine here again

Popped in for a drink late afternoon and were very impressed with the standards being implemented by Daniel and his team post lockdown. Everyone is met at the gate and shown to a table with track and trace details being taken by the staff member or by scanning a qr code. Staff clearly knowledgable about what is expected of them. Liked the idea that each table had a sign that stated that it had been sanitised and ready for use, or alternatively it said do not use I’ve not been cleaned. Feel these guys are taking things seriously here and want to deliver the best service they can whilst sticking to COVID guidelines. Will visit again.

Came for pre- Indian meal drinks, we heard that there is a new management team and first impressions were good. Daniel and his team looked after us very well , with COVID guidelines in place, although it was difficult for them at times with other groups not adhering! All in all we enjoyed our experience and will return soon.

This is a great pub with standard pub food! Plenty of screens to watch the footy on. Food was a little slow to be served but overall was good. Will return in future.

Just had lunch at the Woodsman. Its the first time we have been since it changed hands. We enjoyed the meal especially the sticky toffee pudding. We will be going back.

Family of 5 adults. We decided to eat here as a new experience and boy was it an experience. The chips were greasy and looked disgusting. Two members in our party ordered a roast dinner that came with cauliflower cheese. The cauliflower cheese looked like an animal had eaten it and regurgitated it. I cannot believe that a chef actually served this up. My sons' meal never arrived and he left hungry. We complained and were given a much reduced bill but will not visit again.

Booked the Boxing Day set menu for 10 and as some had never eaten here before we were looking forward to this get together as some family members had eaten here earlier in the year for lunch and therefore recommendations were made. We really couldn’t fault the front of house staff as they were trying their best mostly but unfortunately the meal resulted in us having to speak to the manager. For a set menu for both adults and children and the order placed last month we were disappointed as most meals had something missing from the description without explanations given or the food was not cooked through! My husband had ordered the turkey and gammon dinner and his gammon was literally the size of a two pound coin with the reason given as portion control but when the orders had to be placed due to the occasion you expect better at price per head. We were given two bottles of wine off the bill and the manager we spoke to agreed with our complaint and ensured that the puddings would then be served without fault. This did not happen ( custard instead of brandy sauce with the set menu Christmas pudding ) but allowed us to have a memorable afternoon for many different reasons.

We used to be regulars before it changed hands, so I thought we would book a table for 22nd December. I rang to book the table on 12th December, i had to ring twice before someone answered the phone. I then asked for a table for 8 people, the guy on the phone was not very professional and sounded like he just couldn't be bothered, but I booked my table. As I wasn't confident, I decided to try and call again last night to confirm my booking. I rang in excess of 20 times between 5.30pm and 7.15pm before I managed to speak to someone. The lady said she had to grab the diary but then left me sat there 20 minutes waiting!!! I decided to hang up and try to call again, and I kept trying to call back for another half hour before I gave up and messaged them on Facebook. They had left me there waiting, with the phone off the hook for all that time. It is far from professional and is not the way to treat paying customers. Someone messaged me back on Facebook following my complaint, and not a single apology provided. They offered to ring me, but as i was then working I asked them to confirm my booking, to be told it was booked. Not an apology, not an ounce of sympathy for my troubles. I had cancelled a very nice restaurant to give this place the benefit of the doubt, but I am now cancelling and going elsewhere. If this is how they treat you when trying to book a table, god only knows what the service in the restaurant is like.

We came in hear before it changed hands and we said never again. But thought we would give it another go, don’t think I’d go back for food again. Ordered 3 meals and it wasn’t busy at all only a few ppl sitting at tables, but waited nearly 40mins for the meals. Bacon chops chips and egg. (Gammon egg and chips) the bacon had burnt bits on it and the egg was hard, pie mash peas with gravy. The pasty wasn’t the best and hardly nothing in the pie. The only good thing was the mash and you can’t really go wrong with that. And a hunters chicken which was ok. For the price your paying I’d expect it to be a bit better quality. It was just ok. I don’t think I’d come back hear there are so many other places which serves you quicker and the food is far better.

I had not been here since it changed hands earlier this year, there were 7 of us 5 children 2 adults. My first is a positive for the lovely young lady who served us, nothing to much trouble and the height of politeness. From there it all went downhill my Hunters chicken was so tough had to return it, children ordered macoroni cheese, came spicy had to return, decided to have fish instead of chicken myself ,fish grey chips were frozen oven chips terrible. It just got worse steak pie I have seen better steak pies in the pound bakery. They did knock off the price of some drinks and only charged for small children meals but on reflection should have refused to pay the bill was still just short of £50 was told there main chef was off will not be returning. Informed the manager but was nonchalant about it really.

This is a lovely place, with a good choice of food, all beautifully cooked. Sunday Roasts are highly recommended, and yummy desserts!

Had Sunday lunch here today, great food at a very reasonable price. Staff were warm and friendly and very efficient, especially Leah who served us. Will definitely go back.

We ordered our tea at 6:15 and didn’t get anything from the kitchen until 7:30. The menu has been significantly reduced since this place was taken over (yes the pizza oven has gone!), you would think this would make food production more efficient! I had beef shin in bbq sauce on ciabatta; or to be more correct half a standard ciabatta! It looked pitiful and was frankly insulting. This was served with an egg cup size ramekin of homemade coleslaw and some very nice sweet potato chips. After such a long wait I was frankly shocked at the small amount of beef that the chef had managed to get away with. My partner had Cambodian street food curry which she paid an extra £3.50 on top of circa £10 for prawns. What she was given was a tablespoon portion of the smallest most flavourless prawns she had ever eaten. The flavour of the curry was very good but it was again very small. My partners son had the burger meal which looked and tasted good. Overall it was poor value for money which is a shame as it is our local and would visit more. Staff were pleasant and friendly (they are obviously wrestling with poor kitchen service) but did not keep a watchful eye on guests should they need anything.

Thought would give a go after the recent change of management. The decor is lovely, staff were pleasant, a Monday evening and very quiet. Food was disappointing. Had what were described as mushrooms with Stilton and it looked like a mud bath. This set the tone for the main course which was bland and looked like my young son had served it up. It didn’t taste awful to be fair, but will give the place a miss for a while to come.

We booked a table for Saturday dinner - arrived on time and strangely were assigned a table in the corner of the eating area which was occupied while the the bulk of the eating area was empty. We ordered drinks which took over 10 mins to arrive. Food was ok - particularly the Cambodian street food curry. The trio of desserts was also very nice. The serving staff were very friendly and helpful.

Visited tonight with my son and ordered off the two courses for £10.95 menu. I ordered bacon chops and the son got hunters chicken. The bacon chops were really tasty and came with chips, peas and onion rings. The hunters chicken looked nice and I was told it was good. Now to the pudding I ordered a apple and mixed fruit crumble , son a knickerbocker glory, which was tinned fruit cocktail topped with ice cream and whipped cream. It wasn’t very good the crumble was chunks of apple topped with what looked and tasted like dried mixed fruit, it wasn’t nice at all and I left it. When asked if everything was ok I said the pudding wasn’t nice at all and tasted pretty bad. She apologised and went off. When paying I was asked again and again I said the puddings were really bad. No apology no asking if we’d like anything else he just took the money. It’s a shame really that having had a nice main the puddings really let it down.

A group of old friends went for a meal on a Wednesday evening. The Woodmans has just been refurbished and looked very nice our meals tuck a bit longer to come then I would have expected as the place was not a busy. The service was good and the waiter was good but my burger was over dune. Price was ok.

The food was lovely, portions quite small for the price but absolutely delicious, was only just opened recently so there were a couple of blips but the staff were more than happy to help and very kind in rectifying their one tiny mistake! Will be more than happy to eat here again.

Being as it is now operated by the brewery, it is a changed place, cheerful staff and a Manager who circulates with the customers, in essence it feels like a pub.

Visited Sunday teatime with my family,only the Sunday menu was on offer limiting our choice which was disappointing,starters arrived,my wife had minestrone soup which she said tasted like packet soup,the other starters looked and tasted unappetising,mains arrived,steak pie,chips,garden peas,I thought the chips has been boiled not fried,bland soft and tasteless,i've had better supermarket pies and the peas were boiled to death.My wife left most of her Sunday (beef) roast dinner,tough beef and very bland veg,my grandson asked if he could have scampi and chips which was not available on the Sunday menu and to be fair the staff agreed to his request,he left all his chips and peas and the very small amount of scampi was soon eaten,daughter in law left most of her meal,my son was not impressed with his steak pie chips and peas.Apple crumble and custard for pudding was OK,this place is not as good as it was and I won't visit again.

We were a party of thirteen, including five children, celebrating a third birthday. We had booked for 5pm and were seated straight away, tucked into a corner - always good with children as we didn’t feel too exposed! The meal was good, moderately priced and included a children’s menu. The service was excellent - our server Beth, who had introduced herself when we arrived, was friendly and extremely efficient. The occasion was very relaxed, which was entirely due to the attitude of the staff. I have a feeling the next birthday meal might involve a return visit.

We used to come to this pub back in the Hayrick days, so as my friend and her parents were visiting we decided to eat here for nostalgia. They accommodated our table of 9 and the food was really good. The chorizo and king prawn skewer for starter was delicious and the steak was huge and cooked perfectly.

Visited again on Saturday night. Was very surprised to see that it was very quiet with only a few people in, probably as a result of the football. Excellent meal, I had beef skewers which were made with fillet steak and my partner had sirloin steak. Didn’t have to wait long, staff were very attentive and service was excellent. Will definitely be back.

Absolutely disgusted with the way we were treated on our first and last visit here.Myself my partner and child went in for a dessert and drink.On arrival we were placed at a table, the waitress,then asked us what we would like to order,we ordered 3 desserts and three drinks.After our drinks were brought,about 5 minutes later another waitress came to the table and said we couldn't sit on this table now,as we weren't spending enough money,we wrevonly spending about £25 and other people may spend more so could we pay for our drinks then move to the bar and then pay for our desserts.I was in total shock as how you needed to have a minimum payment required to eat here.I will certainly never go again.

I visited at 230 PM with my son for lunch. As soon as we entered the woodsman it smelt damn near the bar we were shown to a table there was only one other person eating there. The waitress was rather plesant she brought the food menu .we ordered a water and a lemonade which arrived shortly after. I ordered the chi Ken caesar salad and my son order the seabass .The food took 30 mins to arrive. It appears that there were only 3 staff working . Cutlery on the table the forks were bent see picture attached. The ceasar salad was fair I would say chicken cut into small pieces with cheese and was rather dry. The most disappointing one was the seabass which arrived looking good on the plate but wasvery oily swimming in some sort of butter and the sauce was tangy it did not smell good at all.If I had to describe it it was some melted fat with some lemon in. How can the food look good on a plate but taste terrible .For the price of the food it was very disappointing very basic food and should not be called dining at all. Lots of improvement needed in terms of quality of food not worth the amount of money paid..save your money and go somewhere else

Really nice and clean pub went at dinner time we had the meerkat 2 for 1 so had starters and mains the food was really nice wouldnt of ordered all that if it wasnt for the deal as it is a littke pricey but the staff are always friendly and helpful

Called in to join a friend who was having lunch ordered a starter chicken skewer ( currently counting ww points) . The food was slow to arrive when I asked the waiter how long it would be the response was “ there are 4 tables in front of you “ ??? When eventually it did arrive it wasn’t what we had ordered but we accepted it for fear of starvation and waiting another hour for anything else to arrive . The food itself was decent having taken an hour to cook.When the bill was presented we were told we couldn’t use our “tastecard “ as we hadn’t booked the table in advance . I will not visit this place again and advise anybody to caveat emptor “ buyer beware “ you will wait forever and be overcharged for food you didn’t order . POOR customer service .

Lovely food and service. The bottle of wine we chose was out of stock but apologies made and offered 2 other reasonably priced alternatives. I eventually chose the cheaper of the two options a lovely Chilean Merlot which went well with my Napoli pizza. Will certainly eat there again.

I came here on Boxing Day for a meal with my younger brother and we both thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We both had the burger (I had the woodsman burger with goats cheese on and my brother had the bbq burger) and it was excellent. Called in for lunch today whilst out and about in Leyland, a good menu choice and pleasant staff. The food was very good, plenty of it and very hot! Certainly worth a return visit if I am in this neck of the woods again!

Evening meal out and a chance to sample the food and drink at this venue. Courteous staff showed us to a table and talked us through the menu options. Offer of 2 grills and wine looked good but chose alternatives of starters and mains. Good choices of drinks on offer. Starters were quite good, although the garlic mushrooms weren't that garlicky and the blackpudding slices a little overcooked and a tad dry. Mains of haddock and scampi looked the part but again issues with "reformed scampi" not being pure scampi but haddock perfect. Service and waitressing was very good and with management showing a care for perfection, got to compliment them all for our eating experience.

The atmosphere was okay in the restaurant part, once you got past all those standing at the bar. The waiting staff were quite efficient, overall. We ordered two 'surf and turfs' as the main meal, which was billed as 8oz fillet steak and tiger prawns (4). My steak I had ordered medium but it came out as well done and my wife's medium for a request of medium rare. The potato wedges were a bit heavy going and thick, not at all crispy. My starter was garlic mushrooms which I didn't rate, as they arrived in a runny creamy sauce. If I went again, I would probably order from the cheaper menu as the pricier one didn't cut it for me. Not a bad place, however.

On Friday, having been stuck in horrendous traffic on the M6 and M56, we decided to take a break in our journey to County Durham. My wife found this pub/restaurant on Google, as being near the M6. It is about 300 metres from the M6 slip road. We went in about 5.30 and it was already busy, we were seated quickly and ordered a drink. We chose starters, mains and pudding plus coffee, all served speedily, hot and well prepared. The staff were attentive without being intrusive and the final bill for the two of us was £36, which we thought very reasonable. Read some poor reviews, can't say we experienced the same shortcomings, everyone to their own experience of course. Would definitely call again as it's an independent pub not a chain, so deserves patronage.

As regulars to the 'Woodsman' on this occasion the food was disappointing! The standard of food and presentation appears to have dropped considerably. Not sure if the chef/cook has changed recently, but one thing is certain, the food was not the usual high standard value for money as it usually is.

As a frequent user of this local restaurant and a creature of habit as with most people i can say i almost always opt for the fish chips and mushy peas,i therefore know how it is served and what i should be getting. However on my last visit (sat 20th oct) my meal arrived and in my party of four We all could not stop laughing at the portion of peas that arrived.they were served in the smallest sauce pot that you would normally get mayo in for example and there was less than a tea spoon of peas in there. That is were the amusement ends. I politely asked if i could have some peas. What arrived was green water/liquid not a pea in sight,so when asked if everything was ok i again politely explained what had happened. It was taken away and brought back with two peas in it. Clearly the staff were having a laugh at my expense.they were rude dismissive smirking the whole time and no apology happened. They had clearly ran out of peas and instead of offering an alternative chose to insult me. I will not be going back to the woodsman they have lost 4 regular customers because of there disgusting lack of customer service.

A large group of us were staying close by to attend a Royal Navy Reunion. 17 of us were booked in for an extra night and were looking for somewhere to eat other than the Hotel. I can only say that the service was excellent. All our meals were delivered without anyone having to wait, which was impressive taking that we had nearly all chosen something different from the menu. Everyone commented on the quality of the food and the value for money. Thank you for a most enjoyable night from the boys and girls of HMS Plymwick.

Called in for some tea one Thursday night and was very impressed. I had the Tikka chicken swinging kebab and I got plenty of chicken breast on it. The wife had fish pie and she said it was lovely.

Stopped for tea and tried the sausage and mash which states

I've never been in a place where the staff are so single-mindedly set on getting out of the place as soon as they can. At least 50% of the pints I've ever ordered here have had to sent back as they resembled a glass of sarsons on a bad day, so the owner clearly hasn't a clue on how to maintain a cellar. I've given them more than enough chances and the whole lot of them continue to disappoint. Sorry, but it's bye bye Woodsman
