A lovely visit enhanced by the wonderful staff & food

WORST PLACE IN THE WORLD! No care or consideration for fellow neighbours or residential property owners around this pub. Don’t know where to start but it’s a mess, from their overly drunken and loud mouth customers leaving their premises every other day to the sound of their security alarm ringing off for hours in the AM of the night. This business has really given my self, my family and neighbours so much anxiety and stress, resulting us all to look into legal advice to take this awful example of pub to be shutdown or to face legal consequences. Next step will be contacting the local council about this establishment. This can no longer run!

Nice pub and the food is very good. Our experience was not great though as the table is booked three weeks in advance for 2 was in a corner with only one chair and tables packed in so tight you couldn’t sit there We were told there are no other tables sorry. We considered just leaving when a lady said you can have this other table but you must eat and leave by 8:30pm. So no choice but to eat up and leave. I then ordered a pot of tea that never arrived and I had to ask for it after half an hour when I was told oh sorry I forgot. So good food but service is lacking.

Top quality feel, lovely food, great ambience and wide range of beers

Nice community pub. Typical M&B Ember Inns style with cosy wood, fireplaces etc. the variety and condition of the cask ales is good.

Quick lunch catch up with family. Perfect little place to just pop in and eat. Food was served quickly and was delicious, friendly and polite staff too

stopped off for a bite to eat and a quick drink, fairly busy early evening, maybe not my normal stop off 2 x steaks cooked as ordered nothing special but not bad either ok for the money, would i eat there again yes nothing wrong with the pub or food, fairly good atmosphereits your typical local pub cant really complain as you get what you pay for.

There’s a great variety of dishes certainly something for everyone, at good prices too. The staff are great, ordering is quick and simple and food comes out fast.

Asked for tandoori skewers with nothing spicy on it, it came with hot sauce, i told the manager who is a big woman and told me quite bluntly “this is the way it comes” and walked away. I am disgusted with her attitude and will not be coming here again.

I went with a friend for lunch. The menu offered a good range of reasonably priced dishes. I found my meal to be very tasty and well presented. I particularly enjoyed my Eaton Mess dessert. There was also a good range of beers available on tap The staff were very friendly and helpful which helped create a relaxing atmosphere. Will certainly make a return visit.

Sunday lunch duo meal , unbelievably salty , more fat than gammon , very small portion chicken leg . Vegetables were nice . The apple and blackberry dessert, tasteless and Custard was warm and powdery . Service was ok , pleasant enough. Very disappointing overall as previous visit was enjoyable

Enjoyed a family meal here. The standard is usually very good, food of a good standard and service is good. Welcoming atmosphere, the type of people here can vary according to time of the day, day of the week etc. Very much enjoyed the tandoori chicken skewer on flat bread.

Booked the Woodman's Rest Pub for my Aunts wake based on location. From booking through to final payment this was a really great experience. Easy to book, place deposit and view menus online, on arrival the tables were clean and tidy and had been reserved allowing family and friends to gather quickly and quietly to share thoughts after the funeral. The staff were all very attentive and helpful, the buffet was really nice, the hot food was hot and the cold food was cold, great selection, everyone said how nice the food was. I had forgotten to ask my family ref any allergies (which I later found out one of my guests had, ooops!), the team jumped straight on it and sorted a particular dish for my family member with no issue at all, it was all managed very discreetly and professionally. The whole experience from start to end was a great experience enabling us to focus on our memories of our lost loved one and catching up. My reason for booking here for the wake was I had attended another funeral here within the last month or so that was of the same great standard. I was not disappointed. Great work team and thank you for all your support on a difficult day.

The Woodman’s Rest is the best local we could have asked for! My husband and I go regularly, but on this occasion I was with my mum (who is visiting) for Sunday lunch. Staff are always friendly and go above and beyond. Service and cleanliness of the pub are impeccable.

Twice I've been here, the food is delicious, great value for money

I was recently in the UK and I went to this ember inn and another, The Colebrook and I found them to be a great experience. The menu was varied and plenty of things to choose from. The beer battered mushrooms were excellent. Fish and chips, shepherds pie. All really good.

It was a quiet night but beer and service were good.

Food was ok but not hot enough. Chicken in Chicken masarla was quite tough. Condiments empty so had to use ones from table next to us. Staff very nice and friendly. Very clean

We came for dinner on the 24/6/2024. Staff are friendly and very helpful. Meal was lovely. We had posh fish and chips , lasagne and chicken.

Went in for some lunch and ordered off the set lunchtime menu. Meals were hot and very nice. Will definitely return.

Nice, airy pub with a good atmosphere. Friendly helpful staff and fair prices. Disappointed in the quality of the food. I have used Ember Inns on numerous occasions and have always enjoyed their "posh fish and chips*. Unfortunately on this occasion the god was not up to the usual standard, the chips were undercooked and insiped while the battered fish was greasy. Was visiting here with friends and was very disappointed.

Decent pub with pretty good food. Particularly like the posh fish and chips which I haven't seen in many places.

Only a certain type really fit in here, I wasn't that type, but someone else might be, especially if your from the surrounding area and look like you are.

We always enjoy going to this pub. The staff are very friendly and welcoming and the service is excellent. They have great entertainment at times on a Saturday night which is a bonus

One of our meals came out stone cold.. I ordered my meal off the fixed price menu before 5pm and was charged off the normal menu £4 over charge. Staffs attitude not as expected over cold meal. One of us ordered medium steak was well over done. We asked for both our orders to come out together 15 minute gap. I’ve dined with you for many years will have second thoughts in future… not near your normal service!!!!!

We love the Woodman, we are regulars as we live on the next road but if we didn't would travel to visit. We are a family of 3 generations, we always find there is something on the menu for everyone. The food is delicious and a great quality, really good value for money and last but no means least the team who work there are so friendly and accommodating. This year we went for Christmas lunch as we did last year and had a really great time. Great atmosphere, really tasty food and great service.

Visited with family for a late lunch, was seated straight away (had pre-booked) ordered food at the bar (as discount code wouldn’t work via app) and food arrived in good time, all correct, hot and well presented.

I booked the festive meal menu for 12 family members. This was booked back in October. I put our orders in a few weeks before as requested by the restaurant and I arrived early today to make sure my email I sent regarding my guests allergy was received as I didn’t get a reply back. This was fine as I was told everything was in order. Starters came, they were fine. Mains came and there was an extra festive meal (not appropriate for my guest with allergies) the waitress said the gluten/wheat free meal was still being made. I think the extra meal was sent instead of the gluten free one. We had to wait a while for it to arrive. The festive meal didn’t have stuffing or cranberry sauce as advertised. The roasters and meat were very dry. Steak was chewy and sides with steak were dry. I do wonder whether our meals were sitting under a heat source waiting for us to say we were ready for them. On a plus side the burger, festive pie and sea bass were good. Desserts came. Most of my guests had Brownies. All delivered within 1 minute of each other but some came piping hot, some were cold. When I booked I didn’t realize we didn’t have table service but that was my fault for not finding out. When I went to pay at the bar (total bill £325) it asked if I wanted to leave a service charge which I didn’t want to and the lady serving me didn’t seem happy with this although she didn’t say anything, it was just the impression I got. To sum up, the food wasn’t great but the staff were friendly so In my opinion the kitchen has to take responsibility for food we received and our experience. Would I go back again? Sorry, it’s a no from me.

My recent visit to Woodmans left me with mixed feelings, primarily due to the disappointing culinary experience I encountered. While the pub exudes a lively atmosphere and boasts a wide selection of beverages, the same cannot be said for the food. While the service was friendly and attentive, it couldn't compensate for the subpar quality of the food. The staff appeared genuinely interested in ensuring a positive experience, but it's evident that the kitchen fell short of delivering on the promises made by the menu. We ordered two Beef with Red Wine Lasagne, and it was clear that the food had been cooked earlier in the day and left (i assume) on a hot plate to keep it warm, unfortunately due to the length of time the food had been left, the beef had dried out and turned hard. This was mentioned to the staff on service, and they kindly offered a free drink which never came along with a refund.

Tuesday lunchtime: nice atmosphere with an open fire in the middle of the room. Ordered the chicken, bacon and avocado salad. The staff were friendly and efficient. The food was very good.

Googled Website and then I went in with my four legged family member and was told he wasn’t welcome, it’s was 31/10/23 and didn’t want to be at home with trick n treats knocking door to upset him, he only a small Pomeranian 8 years old So please update your website At Ember Inns, we pride ourselves on being more than just pubs; we enjoy being part of your local community where everyone - including your four-legged friends - is welcome. We know that a dog isn't just a pet. It's part of the family – so that's why dogs are warmly welcomed at our pubs.

We had an awkward number for a booking (12) and we were unable to book online and tried to call a few times but unable to get through. I tried a ‘work around’ by booking separate tables on line and requesting via notes that we sit together. This was frustrating, but a call from the manager Chris, who explained why we couldn’t book online, resolved our issue completely. He ensured that we would be able to sit together and also that the staff on the night understood our requirements and would look after us. Excellent service from everyone involved. I didn’t eat as I am a support worker supporting the group to attend but they were all pleased with the food and the value.
