Castle Bromwich Hall Hotel in Solihull

I had an extremely disappointing experience at this hotel. Upon checking into my room, I noticed a strong odor of urine, which later transferred to my feet. I requested a room change, and when I asked the receptionist (who also appeared to be the manager) why the room smelled that way, I was met not with an apology or explanation, but with defensiveness and an accusation that I was raising my voice — despite speaking calmly and respectfully. I was eventually moved to a room in the "main building," which was described as an upgrade, but was significantly smaller than the original. What stood out most, however, was the receptionist’s attitude. His response felt not only dismissive but also racially and gender-coded. As a brown woman, being tone policed by a white male manager — especially when I was simply asking a direct question, politely — felt both sexist and racist. Rather than acknowledging the issue or offering a resolution, he deflected and framed my tone as inappropriate, which is a common way women of color are silenced when asserting themselves. The entire experience was frustrating and, frankly, degrading. Looking through other reviews, you’ll notice a clear pattern (even as recent as two months ago) : many of the lowest-rated comments also mention rudeness from an older male staff member, with a review mentioning the words "racial profiling". This suggests that my experience is not an isolated incident, but possibly part of a broader issue in how guests are treated. This kind of interaction potentially reflects a deeper issue in the culture of service. I strongly recommend that staff — especially those in leadership positions — receive training in inclusive, bias-aware customer service. Guests should feel heard and respected, not dismissed or shamed for voicing legitimate concerns.

Where do I start? From the first visit at Castle Brom Hall Hotel/The Lost Marquee, Aftab and team sold me and my wife a dream. He said he could bring our vision to life. At first, we were skeptical, but he kept saying to trust him. Throughout the planning meetings, especially decor, he said he had a new stage and decor theme which would fit in with my wife’s vision. Again, we weren’t sure, but we gave Aftab the benefit of the doubt. We went to our final decision meeting in January, and my word, seeing the stage and decor in person was spectacular. He completely brought our vision to life. The day itself couldn’t have been any better. Aftab totally exceeded all our expectations, and we’ll always be so thankful to him for making our day the best. It has people talking about how everything was on point and that could’ve only happened with Aftab’s guidance and experience. Aftab remained calm in every situation and reassured us that everything would be amazing. His customer service and understanding manner is exactly what people need when they have a vision in their minds for their big day. Overall, the venue, the decor, the settings, the timings of the day, all ran smoothly and Alhamdulillah was a 100/10 experience! We would only ever recommend Aftab and team for your wedding event needs, the best in the game, the goat! We also asked Aftab to do our Mehndi decor, and again, it was one-of-a-kind, never seen or done before, totally mesmerising, not only for us but for all our guests.

A hidden gem of a place with good access to central Birmingham and the M6, with loads of character and beautiful gardens. I inly had continental breakfast, which was fresh and unlimited. Would stay again.

Aftab and his team were amazing. Stunning location and excellent service. Decor was amazing. Booked for my sisters wedding and attended afew other weddings here too. Definitely recommend the lost marquee for a wedding!

We came for a wedding on the 19th. We came with our 4 week old daughter who required a feed during the event. Annabelle has been brilliant, as my wife was breastfeeding, she understood the privacy that was needed and arranged a quiet place for my wife. A massive thanks to Annabelle for her kindness :) its the little things that carry the highest level of gratitude. Thank you

A pleasant and serene setting. The staff are courteous and friendly, while the rooms are impeccably clean. The bathroom was exceptionally tidy, and the shower provided a refreshing hot experience. What more could one ask for? On my next visit to the area, Castle Bromwich will be my first choice.

Old style hotel. If that’s your thing great, but could do with a bit of modernising for me. Room was huge! Bath and repeat the shower. No car charging points.

I had my wedding at this beautiful venue recently. Aftab and his team went above and beyond to make my day special. Aftab was superb and a great support. He helped me plan and coordinate my wedding within 3 months!! He took away so much stress and ensured the day ran smoothly allowing me to relax and enjoy the day. Thank you so much!

Needs an update ASAP, food very poor.

The rooms were lovely and clean. However the rooms were quite drafty. Reception staff were lovely. However, the manager on site was very rude, my husband came to pick me and my friend up, we were both guests at the hotel. He basically told my husband not in a polite tone to move his car as they were expecting super cars. If he was polite we would not of had an issue. I feel he racially profiled my husband. And it also meant I had to walk with heavy bags to where the car was moved to. Also they do not have a luggage room, so my bags were left by the printing paper. When I came to collect someone had thrown them to the back, so I was having to climb over the boxes in my wedding clothes to grab the boxes. He unfortunately ruined our stay and due to the barriers not working we were late to the venue.

Wonderful historic location, awesome buildings. Easy parking. Lovely breakfast with plenty of choice of both hot and cold food. Staff were very professional, polite and friendly especially Michael managing the breakfast room and Nina on reception.

A beautiful authentic country house. The inside of the building shines in its former glory. I really enjoyed it here. Unfortunately I didn't have enough time and it rained in the evening. I definitely want to come back here again.

Beautiful hotel with so much history.. our room was spacious, extremely clean, and we had a great night sleep on the comfortable mattress, bathroom was really big with a lovely shower. Would definitely recommend this lovely hotel to others.

I have only stayed one night for a special occasion, which was ignored by the hotel. The room was satisfactory and stylish, but my biggest disappointment was the quality in food as it was equivalent with pub food quality of the cheapest standard, which only disappointed me, because this is Not what I would anticipate from a hotel that tries to make an opposite impression. The dining room was exceptionally cold, which makes dining a really bad experience when you try to eat your food whilst constantly shivering… I suppose I have never thought about it that this is what you would get from a “best western” membership, which is around 2-3 star rated standard. They pre-charge your bank card with £1 in case if they need to take money of you after you have checked out, which is pending for 10 days afterwards, but they would not tell you that as the receptionists would not have a clue - even though they are they ones setting deadline to the bank (Not the bank themselves as the hotel claimed it)… Overall, this is around a three star standard hotel, making false impression and provides an extremely low standard in food quality. I am a bit disappointed to be fair - so I would NOT recommend it at all.

Hi I booked a room in February 2024 for May when l initially booked this, it was for my wedding to stay and get ready at the hotel it wasn't stated that I wasn't allowed a hairstylist and makeup artist in the building on booking.com under castle Bromwich hall or in the terms and conditions it was only when my work colleague told me they do not allow makeup artists and hair stylists..I got in touch with the Hotel and politely asked the about the policy the receptionist was abrupt and rude saying no and this is not a studio however then said will issue a refund if I cancel it. I cancelled my booking and still awaiting for my refund after numerous amount of phone calls and them saying they will issue me a refund, then will cut me off or say we will call you back however nothing. It has now been almost a year since I booked and haven't had a refund issued this was false advertisement and was booked for one the most important days of my life I have lost out on the money and this is unfair. I have made numerous attempts to contact and get in touch with the hotel my emails do not get responded to and when I call the hotel mid conversation I get cut off or told I will get a call back how is this good customer service? I honestly expected better from them.

I only visited to collect my wife's bracelet that she lost, but they were very helpful.

Christmas 3 night festive package 2024. Great value! Lovely warm friendly welcome. Plenty of free parking. Room well equipped (great bathroom) & plenty of hot water. Enjoyed the set menus for Dinner & plenty of choices/options for breakfast. Main house has been restored & lots of architectural delights, couldn't stop looking around, so much history to the building. Set in large grounds.

Very attentive to dogs. Rooms were big. Windows were old and ventilation was poor. The castle grounds outside were immaculate, other areas to walk your dog nearby. Maybe add more bins outside as it is a dog friendly hotel. Breakfast kept getting mixed up and not just for me, could hear others say this isn't right.

Sorry to say this but we had christmas dinner they today cost was £91 pound p&p. Strat the welcome was good greeted at the reception , take to the table and that's it for the service. starters came straight out which was ok. Once we had finished we then saw other people with bread rolls. So I asked the waitresses if we got rolls as we had a bread plates on the table which she said o yes you should of had them before your starter did you not get one. So they then stated to panic and got us some rolls after they had taken the finished starters away. Out came the mains again ok but some of our party had food missing off they plates one had no roast potatoes one had 2 so we ended up sharing our plates with each other. You take this and I will have that ECT and with all this we still had the plates that had the bread and the rubbish on out table still. It did not fell like a 91 pound service I have eaten in deferent restaurants for Christmas arranging from 60 pound to 160 pound. After I did complain the service yes did pick up but still not the best. Need less to say don't think will be eating there again. The food I had was Starter brie cranberry parcel.. Main was duck very dry Cheese cake. We did not have a room

We've been here several times recently on personal family matters. The hotel itself has some stunning rooms and reception areas, it just needs a small amount of TLC in some areas. Most staff are so friendly, and all are extremely helpful, working long hours and this always has to be respected. Prices are not outrageous, the food is good (although presentation and service isn't consistent). The rooms are nice, a small niggle is that the tv's are too small. I would recommend this hotel, there are also 10 acres of private grounds to explore. As with most of my reviews, I must touch on the people. Some of the locals who come here and drink themselves into a coma are horrendous. Last night there was a "woman" at the bar whose language and behaviour was so bad I had to go to bed. Do I think the staff should have interviened? Probably. Would I have interviened as a staff member, and risked a punch to the face? Probably not. Aah well, humanity is doomed, not the hotels fault.

I came into this hotel to enquire about a room, which I could have booked on the website but as it was for my neice who is getting married I wanted to book one of the nicer rooms so she could have a nice place to stay and get ready for her wedding day. I did not know if you were not having your wedding at this venue you were not allowed to get ready or have any photos in the room. This could have been explained to me in a decent manner, instead I had to deal with the most rudest person that I was in disbelief at the way he was speaking to me. I did initially ask about the bridal suite, to which he started to tell me this, so I thought this applied to the bridal suite so I made the mistake of asking about a differant room, this is when this individual got ruder and louder. I have viewed the wedding marquee at this hotel and I have to say the person I spoke to that day who I think was named Aftab was really nice and professional and it was a nice venue. Unfortunately this experience with this person today has totally put me off even considering booking this venue for a wedding or even staying here for any other reason.

My son held his wedding here on the 23/11/24 ideal location ,I think the name of the organiser was called Marius what a lovely man everything ran smoothly ,the ceremony was so chilled out the room was beautiful.The wedding breakfast was so nice all the staff were polite and as to the actual hotel it was a delite to stay there the rooms were clean very spacious the photos on the website do not do them justice, the breakfast was delightful everything you could want a perfect end to a perfect weekend.A big thank you to all the staff especially Marius would highly recommend to any one looking for a wedding venue .

My recent stay here was amazing i felt like I was in the bridgertons era… The hall is truly beautiful nestled in stunning gardens that wrap around the whole of the hall grounds you can’t help but want to stroll around the gardens first thing in the morning .. The staff here are happy to help assist you in all of your needs to ensure a relaxing stay free on site parking is a bonus .. I can’t recommend enough and will definitely stay again

We were booked to provide wedding entertainment at the Castle Bromwich Hall hotel, what an amazing venue, The staff were super helpful especially Michael on the the bar what a nice guy, the room we were in did have a noise restriction device set at 98db, more than fair and we had no issues an amazing place to hold an event we will be back with you very soon

Wedding at lost marquee absolutely amazing best venue ever

My son recently got married at this venue. From the initial meeting with Aftab right until the day of the wedding, there was communication between both parties. The service provided was excellent throughout the run up the the wedding. On the day, all the usual wedding day stress was taken away from us, as Aftab and his team managed everything. They were with us, guiding each and every step. The attention to detail was impeccable. This in effect ensured that we had an amazing and enjoyable day. My family and I are grateful for the service provided and would definitely recommend to family and friends. Thanks again to Aftab and team.

EDIT PRICE HIKED BY 80% NOW £20 A PORTION, FOR A FEW CAKES AND SANDWICHES IS HARSH. I brought my Mother here for an afternoon tea. It was a gift for her recent 80th brthday. I must say this is a beautiful setting, with fine elegant rooms. Very evocative, and you couldn't help but imagine times gone past, when the previous owners, maybe the Bradfords used to walk these rooms. Being Christmas, there were a lot of festive decorations, and was very beautifully presented too. As for the tea itself, sandwiches and cakes were presented as a large silver wheel platter. Not too much, just enough, served with a choice of tea or coffee (as much as you wanted). The staff were very friendly and attentive. It is not a hard decision to come back here.

Had to Drop off a cake for a wedding the weekend. When approaching the reception, we were greeted by a rude old-ish male receptionist. Asking for directions to the room we needed to go to, we were told that he will take the cake in himself. When ever have you heard of a receptionist to go and set up a wedding cake. We replied politely that we were paid to set up and its down to the baker to do this. The old-ish male replied with 'please yourself, do what you like'. So rude!!. we even asked to put the air con on in the room as so hot for the cake, but he refused bluntly and said was to expensive to put it on. we advised due to heat the cake may melt, but he replied with not his PROBLEM. The price they charge for weddings this shouldn't be an issue. After speaking to someone in the carpark who was about to go in and view a room for a venue he was telling me the staff were rude and after i told him about the rude receptionist (one in particular) he changed his mind about viewing.

First time visit to this lovely venue. Appreciated the attentiveness of staff and development day with colleagues was insightful.

Lovely setting for this charming hotel with “old-fashioned” comfort. Soft mattresses, mold on the joints in the bathroom. The insulation between floors is poor, I was woken up at 6:30 a.m. by the creaking noises caused by the footsteps of the occupant above. Breakfast is provided but the “English breakfast” is not of quality: canned mushrooms and scrambled eggs made a strange face.

This venue is exceptional. The Grade 1 listed building and the grounds/gardens are amazing. I had my sons wedding on 21.04.24 at the Lost Marquee at Castle Bromwich Hall Hotel. From start to finish both Aftab and Adil (from elegantmoments) were a pleasure to work with. On the day both Aftab, Adil and the young lady were all professional, polite, and nothing was too much to ask. They made the whole process seamless and smooth for us on the day taking away my stress. Aftab treated my family as if he was a relative. From the venue to the decor everything was outstanding and perfect, I couldn’t have asked for a better place to host my this special occasion. Really amazing venue for weddings, lots of great facilities, open spaces for children to run around, prayer room .So many compliments were recieved from family and guests about every aspect of the wedding, the venue and the finer details. Thank you to Aftab, Aadil and all the staff for everything from me and the family and we look forward to using your services again. Good place for a venue good decor and friendly staff

I have just returned from my second stay and CBHH. I just wanted to write again to make a special mention about Peter, who remembered me from my last stay a couple of months ago. Without me asking Peter set a beautifully laid table in the bar area for me for breakfast, which I had asked for last time so I could bring my dogs with me ( they are not allowed in the dining area ). Peters hospitality on my initial stay encouraged me to come back to this hotel. This kind of service is quite rare these days, unless you are spending a great deal of money. An absolute credit to the hotel. Many thanks.

Loved this hotel. Our room was spotlessly clean. Just be mindful it's a listed building and you can tell they've tried so hard to keep original features. Our room was a bit cold but we didn't mind because having the original windows was so worth it. Breakfast was lovely. Cooked to order and help yourself to cereals, pastries, yogurts etc. Would definitely return. Would be a stunning wedding location.

An ok hotel, certainly not 4 star for me. Whilst the staff were all lovely, the shower cubicle in my room had quite a lot of black mould in the corners and in the grout (honestly, just spray some bleach on them once a week) and the full English breakfast was a bit on the dry, tasteless side. The mattress was stupidly soft to the point of being useless. I’m pretty sure it sagged enough for me to be sleeping on the springs. Being nearish the airport meant a few guests were coming and going in the early hours so being woken at 3/4am isn’t the best after a long day at work. That being said, the room did have good facilities such as an iron, kettle with selection of teas and coffees and a Samsung Smart TV.

Beautiful stunning venue with amazing grounds. Easy to get to and plenty of parking. Very friendly staff who were very helpful on arrival giving us clear directions to the room we needed. Throughout the evening the bar staff were great very friendly with the kids and very helpful. Toilets had a lovely selection of essentials you could use which was a great touch like deodorant etc.

Superb location. Beautifully decorated dining area and extremely pleasant staff. Most importantly food was amazingly good.

First time here and originally put in a room next to wedding disco. Quick chat to staff and was very happily moved to new room and they could not be more accommodating. In fact from Dan on the bar, to the front desk staff and the lovely gentleman on breakfast, all members of the team were helpful, very friendly and just made the stay fantastic. The rooms were very clear and well looked after and above all, comfortable. Just a lovely hotel overall and would definitely come back here again. Thank you for making our stay so relaxing.

When staying at this hotel they take a holding deposit, for the total cost then charge the same again to your card for the stay. We are now waiting for a refund which can take up to five days. They also overcharged and took this from our card. We are now waiting for a refund of £330.

Went for afternoon tea and it was so yummy.

We love it here! The afternoon tea experience is very nice and the atmosphere is amazing, also the surroundings and the garden is wonderful in the spring and summer.

We were there for a wedding reception. Food was nice. Marquee was lovely. Lots of parking.

We stayed her with our dog for Crufts 2023 at the NEC. We had a lovely stay; the location is beautiful with a nice park next to it to go for a walk, the room was comfortable and clean even though it's an old building with single glass windows (one of them even having a crack in it, I hope they fixed it but it didn't stop the heater from keeping it warm enough), the people working there were all very nice and friendly, the breakfast was fantastic (so many options including warm dishes!) and the dinnertime dishes where very good too. If we would ever visit Birmingham for a 2nd time, we would love to stay here again.

This is a castle built long ago. Remind yourself of that when staying. Everything was comfortable and easy for me to adapt my expectations. I enjoyed my Black and Blue Burger and on another night my Fish and Chips were more than enough. My favorite part of the hotel was the breakfast. There is a continental breakfast which is good, but a menu to add a hot breakfast to that makes a great start to the day. I thought the Eggs Benedict would be my favorite until I had the Avacado Smash and Tomatoes…fresh flavor, you can see it in one of the photos with a poached egg and a side of bacon. If you have the opportunity to get to know PETER, he was there every morning of my stay and was very kind and encouraging to get to see the hotel and the grounds. A kind man worth meeting!!! Thankful that this was recommended to me as the place to stay. I am recommending this to you also, just remember… it is NOT new… you are staying in history.

The hotel lacks a clear identity, leading to inconsistencies in service and pricing. I was charged more than advertised on the menu for a drink (£7 for a pint of Stella? £3.80 for tap lemonade?) with no offer of refund, and the bar menu was very limited. The portions were huge- but it was soggy, undercooked fish with the fish and limp chips, with a layer of slime under the batter. I suggest cooking the food more. Breakfast involved cheap supermarket bread stored on the floor, as in the photo. The full English was questionable quality, and the coffee from a pot - so no latte or cappuccino is possible! While the gardens and rooms are pleasant, the overall experience does not justify premium dining prices. Disappointing.

Great beautiful location. They need to hide the carpark, behind more vegetation. Good friendly people and service.
