Visited here for the first time this week. Was really disappointed with the number of ants that were crawling around the conservatory area. Planned to stay for more than one drink, but couldn't wait to leave. I hope you can get this issue revolved quickly as it was a really unpleasant experience.

Had a lovely meal here with family, as far as good food and value for money are concerned you can't go wrong. Friendly, helpful staff, enjoyed thoroughly. The only let down being that they have no facilities to make hot drinks. So an investment in a kettle and a latte/cappuccino maker would be the icing on the cake

Being local we visit quite often. The pub prides itself on the food which is always really really good. Home made and fresh. Its the little things we've noticed today. The toilets are down the corridor at the back and there are some doors and these were open today, one was the bottom of a staircase and the state of it was downright filthy, staircase littered with dirty clothes. We also use a high chair when we visit and again they're pretty dirty, the straps and seat are stained and yellow. Don't not visit as it is a great pub and food is good but it does make you wonder how clean the kitchen and other backroom areas are that you don't see in the bar area.

We are regular visitors to this friendly local pub which won Wakfield Pub Of the Year last year and was pleased to notice on our latest visit that the 2 eat for £12.95 had been altered to include many more favourites. On this occasion we chose a new addition the Lamb Shank with spring onion mash. We can only describe this meal as been totally superb in every respect. Good food good atmosphere and helpful staff sums up this venue in one.

Arrived at 5:30 on a Saturday to have some dinner. Got a drink and found a table. At this point the waitress was removing all the menus from the tables. I asked her if we could have a couple. Was told "oh we've stopped food today". When i brought up the fact they advertise food served until 7pm, i was told they'd just decided to stop early today. Well that's me told. Wouldn't have minded if we were told this upon arrival or when we got our drinks but there was nothing. There wasn't even an apology. Won't be coming back.

Have family meet ups every so often as we are a large family, decided to come here for a change with it been somewhat local for us there was around 10 of us they put a few tables together so we was all sat together as we was having meals as well as drinks. Apart from a few items on plates that were cold and should of been hot everyone liked what they had better if you've a even number so you can get the deal prices otherwise could be a little pricey! Nice clean place staff ok too but anyone with walking difficulties might not be so good for has there is steps everywhere so no good for wheelchairs/scooters unless it's a nice day so you would sit outside anyway

Popped into this establishment for a few light ales and to exercise the old grey matter at the weekly Wednesday quiz. Upon arriving we were greeted by dave (the proprietor) a throughly pleasant chap who doesn't indulge himself, except for a cuppa and I suspect the odd digestive or three. Also keeping bar on the said evening was a lovely lady who was very attentive and appeared to be going like Billy whizz. Onto the quiz, and in usual fashion the quiz master turned up 40 mins late and dressed like a member of Leeds utd's "service crew". However if you excuse his monotone quiz voice and his overuse of annograms, it is a throughly decent quiz with questions to suit every budding mastermind. We scored a respected 24/30 however would have had 26 if the missus had listened to me, anyway I digress. At half time the feast emerged, 2 full trays of ham sandwiches, yes 2! Thank God I'm not Muslim, anyway whilst there we noticed a few "customers" filling there pockets with the said sandwiches and saying, and I quote, "these will do for Paiges packed lunch tomorrow". Spiffing. Waste not want not and all that. Anyway on the whole a throughly pleasant evening as always, cracking hosts, great beer and friendly staff. Well worth a visit.

The pie was barely ok it wasn't bad but wasn't good. A couple of huge chunks of meat in gravy there was something something that I assume was supposed to be a separate pie top which was inedible even after soaking in the gravy for five minutes. Visited last week. Met by very disinterested bar maid who clearly didn't enjoy her job. Really couldn't care less. Anyway after food young bar man insisted we filled in the feedback card. So we did as honest as possible. Food good, clearly everything was home made. Nice little touches like 'woodman' stickers on the neatly wrapped cutlery etc. how can we improve? So mentioned about unwelcoming bar staff. The empty plates were removed with the feedback card. 20 seconds later the young man appeared at the bar waving our feedback card in his hand and handed it straight to the bar maid with a big smile on his face. They laughed over it and it vanished as we then went to settle the £80 bill. How appalling! If you're going to hand customers a feedback form then don't do it as a meaningless empty exercise to look good. It should be for the management to use, feedback appropriately to staff and make improvements. Anyway customer service aside. Food is reasonable, all home made which is good these days and they clearly do want to impress with the recent refurb and little touches. Shame they don't train their staff.

The positives: They do some nice little festivals in aid of charity, but the last one I went to was not appropriate for children. One of the singers had three young men picked randomly from the audience and one of them, clearly drunk, stimulated an inappropriate act with the singer when her back was turned. The food is quite nice, if a little cold by the time it arrives. The negatives:The beer garden is a mess. There is two wooden climbing frames and the wood has rotted so much that your hands could splinter just looking at them. The swings are covered in bird excrement, which isn't nice for any children to sit on. The staff are pleasant enough but the landlord might want to work on his people skills.

Visited on Saturday lunchtime with a friend. I had picked The Woodman based on Tripadvisor reviews for the Wakefield area. There were about half a dozen drinkers and we were the only people eating but it was quiet and early. The bar staff were very friendly and helpful, one showed us to the tables whilst the other sorted our drinks. The menu is basic pub grub. We ordered Steak and ale pie with chips and veg, and 10 oz Gammon, eggs and chips. The pie arrived with cabbage and carrots and plenty chips. The pie itself is served in a dish with pastry top and was very tasty if a little runny with gravy. The excellent chips soaked up the gravy. The gammon came with TWO eggs and the same excellent chips. Whilst it was a little on the thin side for my preference. (I do prefer a thick cut) it was very tender and tasty. Overall, yes basic pub grub but far better than most places for taste and also outstanding value. Both meals with a pint of Guinness and pot of tea came to just over £18. Quite happy to returm when in the area in future.

Nothing special, my daughter compared it to school dinners as she thought the veg were overcooked and her Yorkshire pud was burned. There were only 2 veggie options- pasta in tomato sauce or stuffed peppers. I wish I'd tried the pasta cos the peppers were stuffed with plain couscous and a bit of a disappointment. Although we live in Hull we often visit relatives in the Leeds/Wakefield area and today took my partners mum out for Sunday lunch. She rarely goes out as she is the main carer for her poorly husband and so we wanted somewhere nice as a treat. We were not disappointed. The Sunday lunch was yummy. All home cooked. Choice of two meats, roasties and mash and three veg along with a home made Yorkshire pudding and gravy. The guy on the bar was friendly and helpful, as was the manager. We will definitely go there again!

Visited here for the first time on Sunday evening and was pleasantly surprised. The pub was warm and friendly and immediately felt cosy on entering, due to the warm fire. All the staff were welcoming and the food was first rate, portions were very generous. I'm pleased to say I don't think they've seen the last of us, we'll definitely be back again. An added bonus was the fact that it has a 5* Hygiene Rating, result all round :) As it says on their Facebook page "The pub where there is no strangers, just friends you have not met yet" and it certainly felt like that when we walked in. Well done everyone!

Never ever write reviews but this full service wasn’t good. First of all waited nearly 3 hours ordered through Deliveroo said they accepted and would take an hour I understand every shop gets busy but
