Good old style traditional country pub with bags of history and character. Good honest food at very reasonable prices. We have been a few times for Sunday lunch. Parking can be tight when really busy

Went for a light lunch with friends. Food was excellent and service prompt and very unobtrusive.

Compliments to the chef we had dinner and pudding the food and taste was fantastic and the staff were very friendly and polite

Excellent steak, very well cooked. The peppercorn sauce is certainly recommended. The side salad was still very rocket heavy, great if that's your thing, be cautious if not. The beer battered cod, lamb shank, salmon and chicken burger are also excellent. Well worth a visit, and the website gives the menu and prices.

Dinner on a Thursday night with friends. It was busy! Very good steak and Ale pie.

Delicious food. However, was not felt welcomed. The manager (I assume, the man in charge) had a stern unfriendly face. He didn't speak to us. He was piolte, but not chatting.....the waitresses were friendly enough. We had to change a chair because my friend had a bad back, he wasn't impressed. Such a shame, for us it ruined the environment.

A good restaurant pub. Refurbished cleanly after many years (the 20 year old carpet was the first thing the new folkes removed). Excellent pies and well presented steaks. Vegetables uninspired but pleasant

Let me just say, the food was pretty good obviously a good team in the kitchen, not too long a wait and all very well presented. This is however where my praise finishes. It appears that even if you pre book a large group to eat on a quiet Saturday lunchtime you will not be given the best of receptions. We decided for ease of everyone to pay separately for our drinks at the bar this was not taken well and a frosty response from the woman at the bar made it clear we were already not doing things the way she wanted. Food orders were taken shortly after followed by an arm to the face as cutlery and sauce pots were pushed past us in no polite manner. Once our meals were delivered we were left alone to eat, no service followed. After our meals we decided to pay up individually so we all paid for what we ordered. At the bar. All was well until one of our group decided to ask if a service charge had been added, the reply was from the landlord of yes it had. Our group member asked for it to be removed in a polite manner as he explained it should be down to the customer to pay this not automatically. Having worked in pubs for many years myself this is a perfectly reasonable request, the fact we did most of the service for them by going to the bar to pay and get our drinks and no follow up after food served, meant the service charge of 10% not even shown on receipt, deceiving customers who leave a tip not realising the service charge has also been added. The landlord flew off the rails calling my group member a F@#king W!@#£er and a horrible man many times infront of the other customers, raging and abusive behaviour followed when he cornered my group member outside the pub as we were leaving. This behavior was so unacceptable and unbelievable, towards a man in his late 60s who never raised his voice once. So to all potential customers check your receipt before you leave the establishment and for a bill breakdown brace yourself for a full torrent of abuse before you are kicked out of the pub because of a service charge they have not declaired properly. Never visiting again!!!!

The Woodman Inn is one of my favourite places to visit. The food is always outstanding and Francois is a friendly yet professional host. The lamb shank was delicious.

Quiet on this particular Thursday but excellent food, service all at a reasonable price.

I booked a Saturday lunch for 14 of us (8 adults and 6 kids aged 7-16) at less than a week's notice. As we were a large group we were asked to pre-order our starters and main courses by the day before (by email), which made the experience much smoother for us as well as the staff - the food arrived promptly and we didn't have to interrupt our chat with food decisions. All the food was excellent, freshly made and well worth the price, and service was welcoming and prompt without feeling rushed. We had a corner of the pub to ourselves with some extra seating so the kids could play games and chat once they'd finished eating. A number of us had desserts / coffee too which were similarly delicious. It has a lovely old country pub feel and everything including the loos was scrupulously clean. I really couldn't fault it in any way - it was a wonderful lunch and the whole experience from booking to departing was pleasant and easy. It's not always simple to manage this with such a large group, so thanks to everyone at the Woodman!

We stopped here for a drink whilst out walking. Nice decor and atmosphere but the range of beer available was a bit disappointing, maybe we came on a day where stocks were low?
