Had a carvery delivered to eat with a friend who is house bound for a birthday lunch. Food was excellent potions were large and they had put in extras and a happy birthday message. You made us very happy thank you so much we really enjoyed it as no longer able to visit together you made an elderly lady very happy as well! Xxx😁

Absolutely love this place. We've been there several times, everytime food is delicious. And it’s not pricey. Carvery, fish and chips and pizza is our favourite and of course delicious chocolate brownies Staff always friendly. I'm a bit picky when in comes to food, but this place... i can highly recommend ❤️

I do like the woodend pub but the experience could be better. Staff were not the best at times although some are nice and couldn’t help anymore than they do. Sometimes the food is great annd I really enjoy it other times it’s abit poor. It’s hit and miss here some days we have the best experience with lovely food and other times it can be a little poor. Prices keep creeping up but I guess everything is!

We go to woodend Stonehouse quite often as the atmosphere is great the service was fantastic & the food was superb as I am vegetarian the meat free

My sister and I enjoy regular visits here for either Breakfast or carvery. We always enjoy, very good value.

Went for sunday carvery , dinner was generally nice but not enough meat, very small amount, cut way too thinly which spoils the meal.

Came for Mother’s Day lunch on arrival we were shown to our table,4 of us out of 6 had arrived when we sat down we noticed that we only had 5 chairs, there was an empty table with 2 chairs next to us but rather than get one of them I politely asked the waitress who said she would check,she returned to the table and said we could use the chair until 2.45, we arrived at 2.15, so I replied that we would need the chair for longer than half an hour and that it wasn’t my fault they hadn’t set the table correctly,the waitress was rude and said “ I’ve only just started work so it’s nothing to do with me,someone must of had a broken chair and took yours” Food was good, bar service was excellent but unfortunately the waitress’ attitude spoilt our experience, also the amount of cutlery was also incorrect (5 sets)

We were told 40 minutes wait time on food which was fine but then were told we had to vacate our table by 1.55 ...we knew we had 1 1/2 hours at our table but because service was slow we were unable to have a dessert .

It's probably just me but why mix the carrots with the parsnips 😔 carrots maybe with peas but not parsnips 😔🙂

Waiting staff were friendly but seldom came over to your table, you had to get up and track them down most of the time. One waitress said the food for my little girl would take 25 mins then another waitress brought it out straight after…. I was told I couldn’t get my digital rewards card stamped or scanned by staff because I’d already made the online app transaction without entering the code provided (but the app states staff can scan the QR code on it instead? Very confusing and disappointing, have had to contact customer services about it and still haven’t received a response 😔). Food was great, however, desserts expensive.

World class eating and drinking venue, fantastic hospitality, very clean and excellent choice of food and drinks on offer at very competitive rates. We always come here with family for breakfasts and carveries, great outdoor secure play area for children, well lit all round and interior is very tastefully done, a beautiful rustic and warm welcoming atmosphere, staff are excellent, friendly and very knowledgeable on their food and drink choices nothing is ever too much trouble, if you come once you will definitely be back a hundred percent all rounder.

This place is somewhere I will always come back to. The carverys are top notch, all week too not just Sundays and really well priced! Staff are always willing to help accommodate any needs if they can and always polite. Can get a bit busy at the standard rush hours, but even then, I just cannot fault this place!

Used £5 carvery offer. Carvery, as always was really good - the offer made it excellent value for money. Have to say how lovely all the staff were - the young lady on the bar was friendly and welcoming, the young man serving the meats on the carvery was most pleasant, and the other lady, whom I presume was the manager was busy checking and clearing - with a smile. Good choice on the carvery; just miss the mushy peas - please bring them back!

Christmas day dinner we went to the wooden Chesterfield road Huthwaite with all the family 15 of us and they got everything spot on 100% perfect AAA services well done you guys all the best BILL & TRACY

Christmas Day.. Absolutely awful.. car park pot holes need attending to, food quality is horrendous, tasteless, bland, cold and unappealing. Place is tired, dirty, in need of a refurb, condensation on inside windows and mould ..

Booked online, kept waiting 20 minutes after booking time. When I asked a member of staff if anyone was coming out as our booking was 20 mins prior she replied " you should have rung up, not online ". Food was ok but attitude of staff member was poor. It shouldn't have to be explained that a booking time is pointless

Went for a festive menu with family as they live away and we always go to the woodend for a festive menu well the meat was last remnants,turkey was a lot of bones sat there so had beef which was end of joint and tough as old leather so inedible and the gammon was shredded to make look more meat than there was,we've said last time here and in future will go to the young vanish and try there festive menu,oh yes and the salt pots if take lid off are all rusty inside eww,the prawn cocktail was amazing though

Excellent carvery. The staff were efficient and super-helpful and, after not having been for years, the food was still such good value for money. Can't fault this place: no frills, great cavery and extensive menu, decent prices and comfortable surroundings.

Visited and the place is filthy tables,walls , floor , people smoking at entrance , staff unfriendly no greeting on entry , table booked which when we sat it was filthy, ended up getting up without eating

Never again. Poor quality food. Staff wanted us to leave long before closing time. When gave review to the pub itself just got a generic reply saying staff would have replaced unsuitable items. With what? The same thing I'm complaining about?

Food was nice fish chips scampi chips came out in good time fairly priced beers friendly staff very welcoming on arrival. Establishment clean would recommend and visit again.

Just returned from having the Sunday carvery here and got to say its the worst one we as a family have had. Beef was all fat, roast potatoes were hard, frozen Yorkshire pudding and the whole meal was bland. Had a pint of pironi which was flat. Place was packed and it was very cramped with long queue. Only positive was the staff were nice. Sorry but won't be visiting again.

Ordered takeaway pizzas and sides via the app, just after 6pm. Was given a pick up time of 6:45pm. When I arrived after driving 5 miles, I was told it would be at least another 40 minutes as they were very busy?! Spoke to Manager who said best she could do was 30 mins wait so decided on refund. It was 50% off week but why don’t they get more staff in to cope with this offer? Eaten in last time this offer was on and terrible lack of staff and service!

Walked in, sat down at our reserved table (7.30pm on a Wednesday) Looked at the menu, decided what we wanted… went to bar to order for the bar lady to say ‘it’s at least 1 hours wait if you want to order off the menu’ Walked straight out and went elsewhere…. Pub was very quiet, all tables already eating…. Very bad. Won’t return

Booked a table (for 5) for 6.30pm, ordered via the app at 6.45. A chef then came to tell us that we would have an hour & a half wait as a party of 35 had just arrived and they were starting to cook theirs first. My daughter wouldn’t sit & wait that long so we requested a refund. Understandably it’s school holidays so it’s busy but if a party of 35 had booked in advance, customers should be told on arrival that there’s a wait for food. Just as we were leaving the queue for carvery was huge & a member of bar staff shouted if you’ve paid for carvery you need to go and queue now because when it’s gone it’s gone, it was only 7pm. Staff seemed under pressure. Not sure if we will return.

Hadn’t pre booked , 7pm Sunday on a Sunday evening.Asked for a table for two and was told servings were finished, low staff numbers cited as the reason.Advice for information purposes if anyone is thinking of doing the same.

I fell out with the woodend pub several years ago over their service and how they handled my complaint, but after several years i thought I’d give it one more try. My wife and i arrived at five thirty and ordered a carvery and fish and chips, it wasn’t made clear to my wife that the fish would be bought to our table, so after she asked several times if it was ready it finally arrived after twenty five minutes, if you went to the chip shop it takes only five minutes to fry a fish from start to finish. I had doubts over the credibility of the fish as it was very uniform in shape and the batter was not the same as a chip shop, the wife said the fish was a frozen one. Nothing has changed with this pub/ carvery. Was I disappointed, no. Did I expect this, yes. Same old same old.

As always the carvery was very nice - just no mushy peas; they are a must on a cooked dinner! Not as big selection of veg as on previous visits but they still had the veg I liked. And when you pay nearly a tenner as it was a Sunday you expect to get full choice and not see empty spaces where food should be!Service was okay - very sparse staff wise and to be honest it’s lost the homely friendly feel it once had.Decor is poor; carpet stained and paintwork peeling and dirty.There are better places to sit and eat locally.

We just been here for meal with family ,for our wedding anniversary, we ordered our meals which was 2 carvers, burger meal ,and gammon and mustard baguette, when they arrived there was not mustard on it or in a pot ,no salad ( as they say they have stopped doing it) ,we went to the toilet before leaving ,they was a disgusting,mucky ,soap dispenser hanging off wall ,in the ladies ,toilets out of order .not up to covid standards. Shame on you .

My wife and I like the Woodend and prefer it to other carveries in the area as it is very spacious and, even though there were about 20 cars in the car park, there were plenty of vacant tables where one could sit socially distanced from other diners. We had a beef carvery which was cooked to perfection, as were the vegetables. The only criticism, which is very relevant in this day and age, is that the gravies and sauces are separate from the main serving area and are uncovered with nobody supervising their distribution - you just help yourself. I think this is a health hazard as anyone could cough or sneeze in to them.

Called in for breakfast Sunday morning 6 adults 4 kids. Food good. Mushrooms arrived way after to started our food. Coffee okay. Bar man bloody miserable not one smile good morning or kiss my ass!!! Didn’t feel welcomed at all. Shame really

This was probably the worst meal and service we’ve had in years. After ordering we waited 45 minutes for our food . I had ordered the game changer burger which was listed as being served with salad , crispy onion rings and chips .I asked for no chips and no bread . What arrived was three dry and overcooked burgers and ,2 strips of bacon on a tea plate , no onion rings no salad which I had specifically asked for. Eventually after I’d asked for onion rings and salad they arrived by which time everything was cold and inedible ! I would have liked to have been able to complain there and then but was unable to catch anybody’s eye ! I went home hungry !

We really enjoyed our trip here as we normally do, a little different in the new covid era but still the same delicious food. 👍

We booked a table for a Sunday meal. A pleasant young man took our order and we all chose the carvery (for some reason it's £3 dearer on a Sunday than a Saturday) The meal was very nicely cooked but not overly warm. The member of staff carving the meat wasnt exactly enthusiastic. Finally, the state of some of the furniture was disgusting - sticky tables and filthy chairs. I can't believe that they would actually expect someone to sit on the chairs! Not sure I would recommend just down to the fact the pub wasn't the cleanest place I have eaten

While I understand this is a difficult time for most pub & restaurants there can be no excuse in serving dry, barely warm food. We came out for lunch to support a business but we wish we hadn’t. Please don’t reply with you should have said something during visit as the staff were already clearly fed up & I wasn’t going to add to it. Maybe it is good you are closed again for a few weeks.

Went here today for a family meal... nobody seemed to know what they were doing. We ordered two carvery s & two meals off the menu. We asked how long would the carvery be, do you have to queue or not? We were told someone would shout us when to go up to the carvery. Sat 40 mins when the food off the menu was put on the counter, I had to ask if they were ours as after 5 minutes I worried they would be getting cold. They brought them over at which point two of us went up to the carvery. It took the chef 15 minutes to appear, was told he was “having to cook it”.. so, we didn’t eat all together. Cod fish & chips didn’t look or taste like cod, fish was grey & tasteless.. Others said carvery was not bad but used to be so much better with more vegetables. . Staff just didn’t seem to care.. Lack of organisation, we used to go here regularly but sadly standards have dropped from what they were & need real attention..

Advertise all you can eat breakfast got there staff very unpleasant and definitely not Al you can eat breakfast was dry like it had been cooked the day before and coffee that was served was luke warm for the price they charge and the quality I would find a better choice to use in future

I've seen quite a few negative reviews of this establishment, criticising the food and the staff, but our experience was positive. My wife and I went for a meal around 6.00.pm on 3 September. 2020 and were greeted at the door and shown to a table in the conservatory. Everything was well-spaced and we felt safe. You order your drinks and meals at the bar and pay for them there and we didn't have a long wait. I had fish and chips, which were delicious, and my wife had a carvery, which she enjoyed. We found it to be good value and the staff were helpful. I often wonder if, when customers criticise staff, they treat them like servants and expect too much.. I always find that if you appreciate that they're under pressure and give them a smile and 'a thank you', you'll get good service.

We went here today 26th August, the food was average but the staff was absolutely shocking, not interested can’t be bothered, no person seemed to be in charge, we wanted some cold water to cool a babies bottle down you’d of thought I’d asked the lad for the contents of his wallet, not one smile from anyone on the whole visit, aren’t you paying them on this 50% deal.You need to employ people with good attitudes and work ethic, if they’ve been worked hard or your understaffed people don’t want to come and spend money in such a miserable place, and don’t give me the copied and pasted answer as an excuse as you do to all your complaints, We strive to........time for new management who will work along side these people and train them, your in the service industry your terrible comments are catching up with the good ones, obviously these was a long time a go.

We’ve visited a few times on the ‘Eat out to help out’ scheme, first time was acceptable, second time with only a few tables in it took an hour for our food to arrive and when it did it wasn’t worth waiting for. Our last visit yesterday will be our last ever. We had 2 carveries, OK I know we can’t help ourselves but please don’t dollop food onto a plate! We felt like we were in prison the way it was just slopped on! The cabbage was watery, the carrots very dried up and the ‘roast’ potatoes had obviously been frozen at some point as they were broken up in the middle, spongy on the outside and very bitter. The gravy was far too thick and lumpy. Absolutely disgraceful.What has really put us off was watching the guy on the carvery desk and the girl cooking pizzas and preparing salads, chips etc. - all the food was handled without gloves, and without washing hands! So as you can imagine it’s not what you want someone preparing your food to do, using bare hands to grab cheese and toppings for a pizza (Cross-contamination) quick wipe of hands down chef jacket, onto putting salad items into a bowl. Straight onto grabbing handfuls of cooked chips to put in another bowl, touch the wall, roll out pizza dough. Carvery deck guy, the deck is messy, food blobbed on your plate, handling your plate and carpet utensils without gloves...Do these staff have a food hygiene certificate? Do they care?Never ever going back until the staff show they are fit to do the job and the food improves massively.

Not a great start from the moment we walked in to the pub!The table we were seated at was right in front of the carvery and omg it was absolutely boiling hot, so I asked a waitress if we could move tables and bless her she was happy to move us to a different area..We went to order food and there was no nut roast for my vegetarian sister in law, myself and my mother inlaw and daughter wanted Fish, there was NO fish.....Had to change our order to a carvery thinking there was different meats on offer to be told there was a little bit of gammon and turkey left!!Well the toilets were absolutely disgusting, they had probably not been checked since they opened at 9am...You pride this pub on carverys served but most definitely was not the case tonight!! Bad management all round!!

Went here for dinner cannot recommend, the place itself looks tired and needs renovation, the food & carvery are acceptable. If you want a place for a nice evening meal there are many better places.

One start for me as I can’t give 0 We arrived and was seated. When we booked we were not told about the limited menu. So already we only had the choice of about 10 things. Firstly we had to collect our food from the bar. The pizzas were cold and the chicken was rubbery and looked as though it had been taken out of a pre cooked packet. So had to send both pizzas back. Which we was told would only take 10 min to come back to us. We also had to send the chips back that came with the burgers and because they were cold too! Pizza took half an hour to come back to us! And by that poky every one had already finished eating! Also when they chips came back they were wedges as they had ran out of chips and we only got one bowl back instead of the two we paid for. Also the garlic bread was that thin and crispy you could literally snap it in half and it was black! Completely ruined a birthday meal and to top it off the bar staff was chatting about us behind the bar!!

Havent been here in over a year as the waiter was rude, Arrived yesterday given menus to which we were told it was only a select menu, menus were all sticky like they hadn't been cleaned for a good while,considering with everything that is going on you would think the menus at least would be clean, food was ok only went as it was 50% off and close by, wouldn't pay full price

All ways look for Stonehouse carvery when on holiday as we know that we will enjoy it.The Woodend was no exception.Succulent meat and great selection of veggies..

Went for breakfast this morning with my family at half 9.. we was shown to the tablet and all the floor was Disgusting with all dry beans all over causing flys To circulate the table ...The waiter was rude. There is no exit signs on the floor or anywhere telling you how to get out due to Covid! There is an exit sign on the door which you can’t see as the door is left open not no tape on the floor to help guid you. Everything was terrible from the minute we walked in to the minute we walked out!

Arrived and complied with all the Covid restrictions as expected ! We was directed to our table which was dirty we asked for it to be cleaned which it was promptly ... we went for breakfast after a birthday evening just to round the weekend off ... the food was poor (I’m a chef ) toast shattered as so dry bacon dry hard and undercooked eggs like rubber we won’t return ..

I was given terrible attitude by the bar staff the food was absutly horrendous was given asda fish with my fish and chips "hand batterd cod" my coke was flat when served my friend also had a bacon double cheese burger and it was also Asda burgers could have made the same meal at home for less than £10 abously descusted

As soon as we was seated we was given attitude at the bar by a member of staff, we was given a full menu but everything we asked for we was told we couldn’t have as it was a reduced menu but we wasn’t made aware of what we could and couldn’t have from the menu, again a lack of customer service! The fizzy drinks we were served was flat, when the food came out it was poor quality a microwave meal from Asda would of tasted better to be honest! asked for some mayonnaise had to wait for 10 mins before even getting it so the food was cold after waiting! Not happy with the service at all and won’t be returning!

Everything but black pudding available at the breakfast bar. Chips for the discerning diner if required! Clean & very reasonable price. Good car parking. Only negative cold plates. We placed plates on toaster to warm through before self serving our breakfast. otherwise tasty & hearty food. Will return.

Such a disappointing evening that was supposed to be celebrating a birthday.Booked in advance for family and friends with a highchair and noted that it was a birthday celebration.A Saturday night at 7pm, should be busiest time of the week?We arrived and there was no highchair, we had to find our own table and everywhere just looked pretty sub standard.We went to order, no halloumi or fish... On a Saturday night OK? Brilliant.Sat down, 20 minutes later they came to tell us there were no Riblets starters... Surely the competent chef would know that when the order first comes through but OK, we will change our order for a third time. There's a cocktail menu so one would assume they do cocktails, my sister order one and it was a cocktail in a can, absolutely disgusting for the price. Tasted rubbish. 45 minute wait for burgers and pizza, by this time there were 3 tables in the whole place. Starter plates and empty glasses still on table when we left, noone was clearing anything the whole time we were there. We had to move them so we actually had space. Ricky Road sundae only had 1 piece of brownie and to say everythings bought in and prepared everything took ages to arriveNow for the positives;The roast potatoes. Wouldn't come again and would advise against anyone else coming too

The Woodend is certainly improved under the current ownership.Staff at the bar,table serving and carvery are nice.Time of eating requires consideration as it can be the choice of meats left in the evening is limited.My advice is after my own and partners experiences on several occasions is to avoid the beef as it's really not good at all re being tender.

Celebrated the wife's birthday here with 20 other people. Arrived for breakfast and our tables had been reserved all in the corner which was perfect.Breakfast is good value for money however I had to ask for well done bacon, the bacon looked virtually raw. Once I received my bacon cooked, all was well. Most of my family agreed about the bacon and overheard a few other customers mention it. Why don't the business just cook it a little more as it was clear 99% of the people asked for it to be cooked more or just lived with it.Other than that it was ace!

Tonight I’ve had such an awful meal that was barely edible so most of it was left uneaten. At the carvery I asked for turkey and a couple of pigs in blankets......only to be told...’they extra’ .........Excuse me, how much extra? ‘99p each’ The carrots were mushy and obviously frozen as were the sprouts, roasted potatoes a joke, half cooked pale and dripping in fat, lumpy mashed potatoes and gravy which was so thick with glutinous jelly like ‘things’ floating in it. Arggghhhhhh added to that, it was barely lukewarm, I did attempt to eat something from the plate but gave up as I really didn’t want to be up all night being sick. The staff are not professional and appear to be going through the motions waiting for closing time. My dessert was supposed to be Christmas pudding........the portion was minute, the texture sloppy and the custard barely warm, absolutely dire. Please don’t waste your time or money attempting to eat here. Just check out the management’s responses to everyones comments, they obviously don’t give two flying f***ks. Awful place, dirty stained chairs, no atmosphere and hardly any customers. I dread to think what will happen to the 2 large pans full of dried up pigs in blankets that nobody was allowed to have ‍♀️

We do visit here fairly regular and I usually steer clear of the beef as I’ve been caught out with it before but tonight I thought I’d give it a go. It was foul and so tough you could sole your shoes with it !! ugghh. Everything else was lovely as was the gammon but steer clear of the beef

Have been many times but won't be going for a while.. carvery was not very warm..beef overcooked.. frozen carrots still being used..tasted bland... disappointed..only good thing is it's kept clean and friendly staff.
