Was going to go for breakfast but it was closed so went elsewhere

Great carvary chefs on foh where attentive was a birthday party 14 of us we all sat & ate 2 gether no waiti g for food it was brill deffo coming again value for money and desert was to big for one so 2 of us ate it choc fudge cake & cream all 14 of us really enjoyed it

Food is very underwhelming and overpriced. Staff were advised but nothing came of it.

Carvery not great, beef fatty and not edible. Rest of meal warm. Mentioned this to staff but got no reply. not worth £9.49 each.Didnt even offer me a free dessert. I know they have since rectified the problem but they lost a loyal customer

Staff were lovely, friendly and welcoming. Food was fresh and delicious and there was a fab offer on the bottle of prosecco that I chose to buy so I brought two bottles 🍾 🥂 it was an affordable night to celebrate with family. Thank you

Not a very nice carvery at all. There was not much selection of veg, and what there was was very basic, tasteless and bland. Roast potatoes were really hard and overcooked. Not worth the money. But then to top the whole experience off the toilets were awful. When your shoes are sticking floor like you're in a cheap and nasty nightclub in 1992 it isn't a good sign. There was toilet paper all over the floor and the distinct aroma of pi&&. Gross.

Joe has been the friendliest, most helpful person and is a credit to your front of house!

Tables were quite sticky. Roast potatoes and veg were luke warm, although the meat was very good and the chef serving the meat was very pleasant.

Took my Mum for a meal this evening, we had a lovely time. We were able to reserve a table with very little notice, despite it being very busy. We didn't have to wait for long for my Mums dinner off the menu, whilst we had a beautiful carvery.

Had a great experience at the wood end ,the food was great and the staff were excellent would definitely recommend

We come here for breakfast often and it’s always absolutely spot on. The nice thing about this place is that they do waffles with maple syrup which is awesome after a full English! Well recommended!

Always a friendly place with great staff

Fantastic place, food is wonderful with plenty of choice. Sunday carvery is excellent with a choice of different meats and plenty of vegetables to help yourself to. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Plenty of space around tables and atmosphere is lovely with music but not too loud.

I had a problem with an order on line but the staff sorted when I arrived they were very helpful

Not been for a while so thought we would give it a try with the family but unfortunately it turned out to be a bad decision. To be told on a Wednesday teatime that there was no turkey from the carvery on the menu only beef and gammon also the burgers which the family ordered was tasteless and didn’t look like burgers. So I wouldn’t expect anything good.

A regular customer, I’m always treated well by the staff, and always enjoy the food. The loyalty scheme rewards well and it’s my favourite place to eat.

Incredibly unwelcoming, abrupt and downright rude. Had hired cottage nearby for the week over xmas with family. Had 1 drink and left with no intention to ever return. No merry christmas there...no wonder virtually empty! Avoid wasting your time and money.

Met up with friends for lunch - pre booked, as it was a Saturday lunchtime. The lady on the bar looked incredibly tired - she was the only one serving, taking food and drinks orders. We were warned there would be a wait for food off the menu, which was good. I enjoyed my carvery - good choice, & the lady serving the meat was friendly & cheerful. The whole place could do with a good spruce up as it’s looking a bit dated - but it was clean. Toilets were clean too.

Fantastic pub and staff first class

We actually had our early Xmas meal with a wonderful Foster Carers Group and a really nice pint of Guinness to wash down my fish and chips, yum yum!

Very good breakfast and service

Booked this as somewhere new to try. Nothing that screams out to entice you back. Food and service were OK, nobody asked if everything was alright which I found a bit strange, may go again, but won't hurry back.

We went yesterday morning for breakfast (we haven’t been on a Sunday morning before and it was busy the guy on the front of house “Joe” was not flustered by the long queue waiting to place orders. He was full of smiles as always and polite and helpful Joe is a mega Credit to the Woodend. The Que soon went down We usually go in the week and the staff (young ladies are just lovely. Unfortunately there is one member of staff (not young) who really lets the side down an should be banished to the back area only as she doesn’t have the smile, welcome, manners one should have to serve the public has been heard being abrupt and sarcastic and unfortunately rude. A proper “Karen” keep up the good work the rest of you lovelies Thank You. Joe your family must be proud of the person you are

Always such a lovely place to go to eat and the food is always tasty. There is one lad called Joe who, no matter how busy it is, always has a smile and is so polite, he really is a credit to stonehouse. I definitely recommend The woodend to people who want to chill and eat in a cozy environment.

We visited the Woodend last night for tea on the way back from shopping at McArthur Glen (approx a 7min drive) and are so glad that we did. We arrived for about 8pm and there was plenty of choice on the carvery option. We ordered 2 carveries and 3 burgers, but theres calzones, pizzas and Fish n' chips on the menu if you'd fancy. We all enjoyed our meals and found it was great value for money and tasted great too. We went away as 5 very happy and full customers. We wanted to all give special thanks to the team working last night as every member of staff was incredible, nothing was any bother for any of them and were friendly at every interaction (Keeley, Joe, Evelyn, Lauren, Matt and Dec). Hoping to come back soon. Lovely pub, with a warm & friendly atmosphere

Worst carvery ive had delivered, items missing and apparently they don't do refunds, stay well clear i will not be returning

First time at this pub for a carvery. Table for 6 booked for 1.30pm and table was ready. Nice staff looked after us well and the food was really superb. 3/5 for atmosphere as it was early Saturday afternoon but no complaints at all.

Me and my partner stop off here .most Fridays after shooting range nextdoor. The staff are attentive happy and very kind and friendly and always welcome my friends and make them too feel part of the atmosphere the place is spotless toilets smell wonderfully clean although it's very busy the staff are always friendly and make sure your wait isn't too long. The Breakfast is delicious as well as lunch and very affordable they also have disabled facilities too the manager and sister are very friendly especially with my partner and the rest of the customer's looking outside in which I like very much my friends my partner always say how much they have enjoyed the day out after visiting the pub and ha ve also took their friends in the evening so yes needless to say we will be coming here for many years to come 👍

Melt in the mouth beef on the carvery today

Have been here multiple times, always on a Sunday morning. Staff are always friendly & quick to serve. Food is always topped up and never have to wait in a long queue. Food it top notch and is our favourite place for breakfast!

Visited yesterday for the carvery with my son and his fiancé. The place was his idea, he'd not been before but he said from what he'd seen it looked okay. He'd obviously not read the Google reviews first. The best thing about the place was the Brewdog Wingman on draft, I like a tangy IPA. Although the meats tasted ok and texture good the portion size wouldn't satisfy a 4yr old. I had the biggest serving they do and literally with the 3 meats served, Ham Turkey and Beef combined there must've been about 3oz of meat on the plate. My son was in the queue a few places behind me, when he returned to the table his portion was overflowing with meat, probably about 18oz. Now he'd paid the same and ordered the same as me so all I can surmise is the server loads up your plate depending on his mood for you. That's the only explanation. Both my son and I are big chaps over 18st, so I'm wondering what the pitiful excuse could've been? If your face doesn't fit? The bar staff were friendly enough. The toilets, recommend you go at home first. Before you say "we'll pass along your comments" I wouldn't bother as you've replied the same thing quite a few times, so that obviously makes no difference.

A very nice village type pub with free ample car parking, disabled spaces available. The premises is wheelchair friendly. Outside seating is available. Food is self service for adequate portion sizes. Child meals are available. All ages welcome, highchairs are on hand if required. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. Very clean toilets that are frequently checked. The pub is situated on the A57 near to the M1 motorway between Worksop and Chesterfield. The pub itself is in the picturesque village of Barlborough which also boasts a beautiful Church.

Absolutely Shocking service. For a Monday night to have to wait 45 minutes for all other food that's not carvery. The manager couldn't care less. We had a 3 year old with us and again they couldn't care less. It shouldn't take 45 minutes to cook 2 fish coujon.

Service is absolutely shocking. For a Monday night where there's not many people in the restaurant you should be serving people quite quickly. It took 25 minutes for a single portion of chicken wings to come out. The excuse of there juggling a lot is absolutely ridiculous.. asked for the manager to the. Be told it's a 45 minute wait for non carvery food!! The person that took out order should have said from the off. The manager didn't seem to give a care in the world and tried to blame the fact they have 1 member of staff on. Absolutely ridiculous!!!! Very poor standards and staff don't care either. Would not recommended this restaurant at all.

The pub is lovely and until very recently there has never been any need to complain. I must point out also the review is for the Too good to go surprise bags and NOT dining onsite, which is excellent. I would advise anyone ordering through the too good to go app to check their collection before swiping. There was no meat on a recent roast carvery order. No care was given to filling the container, the food looked like it was literally thrown into the container and there was little gravy on one and none on the other. The roasties were in a separate bag and were dried out and inedible. Recently I had 2 breakfasts where the quality was also poor, all items chucked in the container with beans and tomatoes mixed in on top. I thought this may have improved, clearly not. I believe there has been a recent change in staff, collecting these surprise bags now feels a different experience also, no welcome , no enjoy your meal and no good bye. A million miles from where it was just a week or so ago . Too good to go were contacted and photos of the meals I received were shown to them. Their expert agreed that the food was not provided as I should have expected it and they refunded me in full. Unfortunately, I will no longer order from The Woodend until the management team provides who ever is responsible for fulfilling the orders for the too good to go bags with some relevant training on a, filling the containers, b, ensuring the right item is given to the customer and c, improvement from staff with customer relations. I hope this can be achieved as I previously enjoyed the food and thought the experience of collection and the pleasantness of the staff welcome far exceeded anything experienced by any of it's competitors.

OMG!!! I hate leaving negative reviews but at 65 years old this was the worst dining experience of my life. The place is falling to pieces. Totally neglected and unkept. More public areas cordoned off than a police murder scene (including kids play area and public access). Litter and garbage scattered everywhere. It looks like a riot zone. Totally unsafe for anyone with mobility issues. How it gets a standards rating is very questionable. My wife and I called here on the way to visit a loved one on EOLC at Chesterfield hospital. We had flown in from Portugal to say our good byes, pay our respects and support family members in a time of personal loss. We were local to the area and had enjoyed many happy meals here only 3 years ago and also at the chains sister restaurants at Glapwell and Barlborough. After the 7 hour journey and diversions due to "rain" my wife and I found ourselves passing a past favourite so decided to eat and "prepare" for the expected long night. How can a company survive if this is all they have to offer? The lady on the bar took our order in a very effective and joyous way. She was so happy when we said yes to the extra pig in blanket I actually thought she was on bonus payments. Where she went after giving us our tickets for the carvery I do not know. We had to find ourselves a table, not hard but not what one would expect. Table found, off to the carvery and stand in line behind a" just eat driver" who had not long embarked from his long journey across the channel and had found something more enjoyable to eat up his left nostril. I eventually returned to the table and took a folk from the container. The folk was covered in what can only be described as fungus. At no stage did any member of staff ask the question "is everything all right with your meal" The answer would have been "no, not one thing is right, the place has a problem with flies, there where four on my plate at one time, the food is totally awful being dried up, tasteless and over cooked and the staff have to smile and put up with the justified complaints. Worst dining experience of my life. Come back Mum. The liver was not all that bad XXXX

Visited for family birthday and cannot fault the staff or food! Beef at carvery melted in your mouth and all veg was well cooked with great taste. All staff were helpful and very friendly. We will be visiting again soon, thank you.

What a fantastic place. Great atmosphere, very attentive and professional staff, lovely real ale, the food was beautiful in both taste and presentation and I won a cuddly Ninja Turtle on the toy crane machine on the first go. Five stars plus. Jonny Huckerby.

Both had carvery. Stuffing was in big lumps, too hard to break up. Mash had a crust on been stood that long. Not very nice at all.

Not sure why but anything that's not carvery-related or ordered through Uber-eats seems to take extra long to arrive at the table. I waited just over half-an-hour for my fish and chips (granted, I was warned about this), my son and son-in-law waited over three-quarters of an hour for their burgers. Was tempted to order something from a takeaway in Clay Cross and see which arrived first.

We use the takeaway carvery and it is lovely.

Just had a carvery Yesterday. I went to the toilet and I am very disgusted by the Mould smell, the mould is all over. That isn't very healthy..

Awful awful awful breakfast. No mushrooms but the sign is left up saying add mushrooms. No working toaster but not told this when we paid. Had I known, we'd have gone elsewhere. Bacon was so salty it was inedible. Raw potatoes. Not a lot of choice. Definitely won't be going back. Avoid. Go to Bartlewood Lodge in Ilkeston, same brewery but far superior to these. And theres a proper coffee machine thats free with breakfast.

Nice calzone and pizza, that if you have the patience to wait about 30 to 50 minutes. They prioritise delivery services and takeaway. Because of that the patrons at the table have to wait for kitchen orders. Carvery is always available . The staff is nice and kind.

Amazing little pub, even during a busy service which this place tends to be during the evenings, the chefs work hard to cook food for a lot of people. Great atmosphere, quickly prepared food and very tasty. Will definitely be back

I only went because I was told that it had improved but sadly as far as I could tell there has been no change since I last visited the food is flavourless and the mash and roast potatoes were full of black eyes that you couldn't find one fork full or a single roast that was clean I could go on but feel it would be a waste of time as this seems to be the same standards as several Stonehouse and toby premises

Very good for an all day carvery, the beef was well cooked and tender, the vegetables were ok and the price was reasonable. Would visit again definitely
