Had the carvery, wasn't impressed the Yorkshire puddings were hard ,the stuffing needed a jack hammer to get through it.and I was poorly after it .

Time for an update to this review. Five years ago, I rated this place two stars because of how bad the food was. Have things improved? A bit, but quality is really variable. This place has been a Stonehouse for around about six years, so by this stage none of the problems can be blamed on what they inherited from they previous owners. Let's start with the staff team. On this latest, and our previous few visits, the staff have consistently been polite, helpful, and offer a good customer service experience. On a recent previous visit a specific member of staff was having a bad day. But I saw this same staff member switch to professional, warm, and welcoming as soon as any customer came near. Consistently, this staff member was presenting a great customer service experience, which is an admirable quality. On some visits, the food is acceptable, never great, but not bad. On other visits however, the food is below an acceptable standard. As with my previous review the carvery still sometimes suffers from food that had turned to rubber after spending too long under the heat lamps, and meat that was dry and devoid of flavour. On my most recent visit the person serving the meat was putting extra turkey on the plates. This was clearly an attempt to get through the turkey as quickly as possible, because it had dried out so much. I don't like food being wasted, but there has to be a balance between avoiding food waste, and avoiding such terrible quality food. The pizza seems to have improved in recent years. That wasn't a high bar, but at least the last pizza we had from here wasn't burnt to a crisp. The topping and base was cooked through properly. I will continue to see if it remains consistently acceptable. I did find it interesting that they were promoting a "Soaring Chefs" contest in association with Coca~Cola... Given that this Stonehouse bar is a Pepsi serving establishment, I'm curious which of the two Cola companies would be the least impressed by this. It is difficult to recommend this place because of the food. On the wrong night, it is abysmal. On the right night it is perfectly acceptable food. The key seems to be to opt for the carvery if it is really busy, order off the menu if it is not very busy, and go somewhere else to eat if it is quiet. On balance, I'm still giving this place two stars.

The food was lovely and the staff were very nice.

The carvery was absolutely shocking the beef joint looked like a brisket joint and for 35 quid for 2 carveries and 2 drinks that's piss poor it was full of fat. The roasties and the pigs in blankets were like concrete there was lumps in the mash. Borderline inedible. Left hungry. The carveries used to be amazing here

As a fellow chef for 28 years, and been eating at the hole in the wall establishment, I came across a young man called william, who is a keeper, the difference in the quality of breakfast was very noticeable, the presentation, the taste, how it was cooked. It was all cooked to #perfection. Nice to see someone take pride in their work.

Saturday afternoon with son, daughter in law and grandchildren, good food and very welcoming, really good with the children.

Nice place, great Sunday dinner, reasonably priced.

Sunday roasts are fab , had takeaway pizza -poor, cheeseburger - jaw ache had to leave it , chips cold .nearly 2 hrs wait .. won't order again from usual menu .waste of £50

Excellent pub with great value meals. The beer choice is average, but the quality if what they serve is great. The staff are very friendly and the ambience is very nice and relaxing.

The staff bang on the food was absolutely shocking. Dry, bland, no taste what so ever. Hard to bite absolutely shocking.

Had a delay with some of our food which was unfortunately warm but not hot, had a family that were noisy due to being intoxicated by some substance, But we're dealt with by the staff very quickly , but overall it was a good experience and would recommend

Excellent carvery food really good

Normally our takeaway carverys are good however today my husband has had to wait for over 40 minutes from the collection time and then the order was missing pigs in blankets and the carved beef was just fat! Wont be using again.

Ordered delivery via Uber eats waited in excess hours of 2 hours (we were happy to wait) Restaurant called about 1.45 hours before delivery to say they had no beef - fine we substituted with turkey Food arrived with missing items no extra yorkie for large carvery and only 3 potatoes for 2 dinners Large carvery came with beef - thought they had none ? And was inedible Called the restaurant staff apologetic busy etc but could not do anything as contact is with Uber eats - fine But please do not send food out of your kitchen like this

What a difference. No beef on a three meat carvery that we were not told about, no gravy left, ice cream machine not working. And the staff seemed more interested in talking to each other than serving the customers.

Very busy Carvery and Pizza eatery. Visited today and found the food and drink reasonably priced. The staff where friendly and the accomodation was good but a little dark to even read the menu. Large carpark and a kids play area in a secure area. The only downside was the smokers outside the main door, that you had to fight through, to get in. Cough cough

Under staffed and long wait times. Tables not cleaned and slow server Food was nice just disappointed.Rude staff ignoring you when you speak to them, Server snappy with her attitude too.

Lovely staff fantastic food both in quality and price point. Clean comfortable and welcoming and very relaxing environment. My wife and i came for our second wedding anniversary and we left both very full and satisfied and very happy too

Went to collect a takeaway carvery. Really good for the price, the amount I got would feed me for a week. Really lovely staff, have been for a sit down meal a few times and the staff really do try their best despite being understaffed quite a lot. Would definitely go again and again.

The £5 pizza offer. Was brilliant. Really enjoyed it .the pizza was delicious and brought over with smiles from the cooks. All four of us enjoyed them. And only down side was unfortunately we waited over 10 minutes to be serves in a long queue with only one staff member on the till. And he was busy.

Lovely place, and it has great staff that are super helpful and friendly! Would recommend all you can eat buffets they have in the morning and lunch.

I purchased two carvery meals on "too good to go" web site as a friend mentioned they had one and it was lovely. This was the first time I have been/ purchased from this pub. I went to pick them up last night and was not disappointed. The staff were very friendly and had a chat with them as I waited for the meals to be boxed. The pub had a lovely atmosphere and clean. Upon getting home we put one of them on a plate, there was enough for the two of us in one portion and it was delicious. ( One more to enjoy) 😊Will definitely be getting another at some point. Well worth a visit.

Visited today and have to say the place has gone down hill. Dead Flys all over the place. The carver simply not taking care when dealing with the meat and Yorkshire puds (speaking to a coeliac) cut the meat fine but then proceeded to touch Yorkshires with the same tongs etc. Also instead of checking suitability of the veg (some covered in sauces etc) just fobbed us off. Also took a age to prep GF gravy and needed reminding 10 mins after sitting down.. Yes the dinner had cooled quite a lot. To be honest I doubt we'll return. Not sure if this was an isolated incident but still disappointing all the same.

I took my mother out for lunch the staff there are amazing, they are friendly and always happy to help. We chose the carvery as it looked lovely and fresh, the food was hot and tasty and we chose the ice-cream sundaes for dessert. We would like to thank John and Julie for an excellent meal and service and also Vanessa, Clare and Charlotte for looking after us at front of house. Lastly just want to add we cleared our plates, this is brilliant for mother who is usually a poor eater. Strongly recommend.

Booked a table for 7 people for 7pm . Got there customers queueing 1 staff taking orders , a so called manger and waiting staff one . Placed our orders via app waited and waited for drinks went to bar to get the drinks , then the 1 staff said hasn't he been to see you? Who ? Then was told didn't know if would like our drinks has they haven't got half of the food we had orderd mostly carvery . So ended up waiting as there is o ku one person that can refund you . And there was a queue for this as well . Will not be going here again

Was a very poor experience, ordered kids meals and carvery and waited 55mins for kids meals before asking if the food was coming, only to find out the carvery was closing and the kids food still not here. Waited another 20mins before leaving without food. Would never return.

Popped in for lunch and we were not disappointed We chose to eat at the carvery . The price of the food quality and quantity was excellent Service was quick and the staff very efficient. You would have to go along way to beat this place so check it out have a look on the website at menu every day has specials on.

Good service and very nice carvery. No vegetarian option but they did have veggie gravy which was delicious and the overall experience was very good. The dessert was huge and we couldn't eat it all so they gave us containers to take them home.

Last few experiences here have been lousy. Carvery meats are good but everything else stays under the hot lamps for far too long: roast potatoes are weirdly leathery and the vegetables have been boiled within an inch of disintegration. Took the better part of an hour for the non-carvery items to be served and when they were, they looked and tasted as if they'd been sitting under the lamps for ages. Arrived ten minutes after the rest of the group has finished their carvery. And frankly not worth the wait. Burgers are a strange grey colour and substandard when compared to McDonald's. Cheese was just a sort of waxy smear, the burger sauce was unpleasant, and they've joined the herd in serving them in a brioche (what's next? Serving them in donuts?). Chips were desiccated- rubbery outer, oddly powdery inner. The kids ate the pizzas, which were very crunchy on the crust with unusually orangeish sauce, and they seemed to have been shown a bag of cheese from six feet away. Bottomless ice cream was disconcertingly yellow but the kids seemed happy enough. It's incredibly stuffy and dark even in the windows, and it seems impossible to be far enough away from a speaker that the 'music' is more a sound than an invasive physical presence. Staff more insterested in gossiping than serving customers. Cutlery and napkins are not kept replenished. But carvery meat portions are good and the vegetables are plentiful. If the bare minimum basics done mediocrely are all you're after and you're not fussed about your surroundings, you'll be fine.

We arrived at 10 past 6 on a Thursday evening to be told they had run out of carvery!!! Also no draught beer on due to problems with the cellar, not good

Booked for my wife birthday twelve people put us in a side room one small window no aircon 28c out side kids left their meal and when out side to hot for them my mother in law hu is 90 felt faint so had to take her outside wos not a very good birthday meal for my wife very disappointed

we had a fantastic experience when visiting the hole in the wall, the staff were extremely welcoming especially Charlotte who couldn't do enough to help, the chef John who served us was very pleasant and the food was fresh and hot, everyone really enjoyed the evening. we will be definitely returning soon.

We live in the West Midlands & my husband arranged a suprise meet up at this place with my mum, sister & brother in law ( who live in the east midlands ) for my birthday weekend which was a fabulous idea - he pre booked a table - we were hungry & looking forward to the carvery - we joined the queue in anticipation 😀- only to be told as we reached the server - sorry we only have ham or sausage left ! To me this is a terrible service & should have had at least one more joint at the ready ( after all it is a carvery ) when my son got to the gravy there was none left ( suprise, suprise) so had to ask if they would get him some more ( which he eventually got along with his sausage 😕)

We paid for carveries, and while at the end of a (long) queue, we heard one of the bar staff say they couldn’t sell any more carvery tickets. We noticed that there was a small piece of gammon left, but no beef or turkey. This gammon was then distributed to those in the queue, so when we got there, there was a paltry piece left for our daughter, and we were told we could have sausages, as there was nothing else left. No apology. No offer to substitute for another meal. Then had to make do with the remnant vegetables that were out. There should be some forethought, and don’t sell meals if there isn’t enough to provide them. We weren’t the only ones, I’d say the last 10-12 people in the queue had the same issue. Really disappointing.

Brilliant food and service, especially from John, we went has a group of 5 and the food was lovely, John was very helpful and really look after us, we will definitely be coming back.

Met up with my family that I have not seen for a while for breakfast. Wow what a lovely food, beautiful cooked and the service from John was fantastic he was very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. I can highly recommend the Hole in the Wall, we will definitely be back.

Staff are rude stands atound food area talking about last night's tv while big ques at the bar and carvery. Doesn't explain how the system works. Came alone with my food and the server breaths on my good not once but twice. Fuming never again.

Just a quick line to express our sincere thanks to John and the team for an excellent meal. On arrival we had thought service was over as the meats looked very sparse. However John was on hand to reassure us this was not the case and a new selection of meats would be ready in about 20 minutes, He kindly confirmed we could have anything from the rest of the menu! We decided to have drink and wait and it was well worth the wait!!! The meats juicy and succulent and the whole meal was was excellent. Great carvery, great meal with John being a charming example of great customer service!!! We will be back and will not leave so long next time,, Vanessa & Mark

We booked a table but there was nobody at the door to show us where to sit. When asked at the bar we were told to find an available table. We asked if carvery was available and we were told that it was. However, I could only see gammon so when ordering I asked if anything else was available and at this point we were told that only gammon was available unless we wanted to wait around 90 minutes. We ended up with pizza and burgers.

It was half full, but very loud when we came for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. It was very cold outside but toasty warm inside. We ordered as we arrived, as we had children with us, and we know that if there are delays they can get niggly. We waited over an hour for the food to arrive. Then the children's food arrived last! We were gutted. We'd heard such great things about this place but all we got was completely let down 👎🏽

Ordered a carvery and got it delivered, 90% of the veg was frozen dry turkey and beef, burnt roast potatoes. Had the carvery in the restaurant before and it was 10/10. Very disappointed and only came with a tiny bit of gravy

Julie the chef is amazing! This is the first time we have come here and it's for my birthday meal! Me and my son had a carvery which was so delicious! And Claire on the front of house was lovely too!

This place is so calm and peaceful the food is amazing especially the breakfast service is brilliant I have elderly parents and they couldn’t do enough for them. All in all a great meal great service lovely staff would recommend it highly ⭐️⭐️
