The Witham House in Braintree

Absolutely terrible food!!! 0 stars 🌟 2 orders were wrong. Orderd Singapore rice noodles and was given rice. Mongolian duck was given pork in plumb sauce. Called the restaurant to complain and they said they will send the right dishes they came back and sent the same again. Phoned again to ask for a refund of the 2 dishes in which they was only going to give me £10.00 the Mongolian duck was £11.80 on its own!! They then said they will refund £15.00!!! Which is a joke. Will NEVER EVER order from this place again.

Honestly, there was more flavour and better quality eating the paper bag the delivery came in. Have these guys ever eaten Chinese before. An insult to the excellent Chinese chefs out there. Paid a lot of money for boxes of crap. For the quality and the price, they took the micky out of us…. Rip off and that’s £68 in the bin!!! Will not be purchasing again or recommending.

Definitely not King Prawn Dry Chow Mein as ordered .. very disappointed… If & I say if we use this takeaway again, I will unpack my order before I leave the shop…

Uncooked food, cold and didn’t taste of anything. Avoid at all costs, they just want your money for bad food and unhelpful staff

We ordered online… we received a message to say it would be over one hour so we cancelled within five minutes of placing the order. The restaurant have still not sent the money back. I am going to report them to the council local newspapers for stealing peoples money. PLEASE GIVE MY MONEY BACK

Good delivery was a little late but the food was lovely really nice generous portions too. The restaurant kept in contact through messaging would definitely order again!!

Over an hour for delivery! Stone cold food! 3 phone calls for a refund! Rude staff who didn’t understand our complaint and thought it would be acceptable for a 20% refund or a replacement delivery in an hour

Meal awful all bamboo shoots cheap substitute for chicken mediocre taste not value for money will never order from there again. Called up to complain but no response not that I'm surprised wasn't expecting any customer service.... Please don't waste your money......

Very disappointing. We thought we'd treat ourselves to a take away and heard that The Witham House is one of the best. Sadly we disagree. Although portion was great and the delivery was quick. However...the the curry sauce was too watery and bland, the rice was mushy, both chicken and beef chow mein was way too oily and lacking in the chosen protein.

We used this takeaway regularly for along time but the quality of the dishes started to decline so went elsewhere. When our usual place was closed for Christmas we tried here again .The food remains mediocre at best but the delivery took nearly 2 hours by which time we had almost lost the will to live as we were so hungry.Will never use again.

Placed an order with the delivery time of 45 mins, hour passes which I call and ask where the food is they said it's in the car on way now be 5/10 mins, that time then passes I called back and they say the same thing again! Hour and a half later food then arrives cold! Would never order from them again. Instead went to ying much better service and very quick

Used for ages but food been getting worse of late. Everything seems microwaved!. Hard chicken, jelly sour sauce, hard ribs, tasteless food and all over cooked. Waited an hour and a half on Friday night, phones twice to be told it's on its way, food arrived warm!! Won't use again, needs shutting down!!

Ordered a takeaway waited 50 minutes for food. When it turned up it was cold. Phoned up to complain and they did not care. DO NOT USE THEM.

Ordered a take away, it arrived 5 mins early but the food was awful. I ordered the special starter for 2, the satay chicken had no peanut sauce it was a dry over cooked piece of chicken on a skewer, I fed it to my dog. The wings and prawn toast were also dry and over cooked. I had ordered sweet and sour sauce so it was edible just. The duck pancake rolls and the pork rice had so little meat! My sons meal was veggie and just about edible but he doesn’t feel great this morning, could be th msg. I called the restaurant and they offered me 20% off my next order, needless to say I won’t be ordering again. If I had been eating in the restaurant I would have sent the food back.

Only in the uk can you get away with a 90 minute delivery time. Told it was on its way and waited another 20 minutes.

Pushed time back by 45 minutes from original time then delivered 25 minutes later than that. Maybe a call or something from them to keep us updated about when our food was arriving as if we had knew when we ordered it that there would be an overall wait time of 1 hour 45 minutes we would of gone elsewhere

Went for a night out. We had pre booked a table for 19.30hrs and ordered out food. At 2230hrs we were told that there was no sea bass and then they tried to infer that they could muster up a similar dish! The staff didn't seem to understand the reason why we would have an issue with 1) the delay in getting the food 2) the issue with serving the rest of the group's 3) not telling us what was not available at the start of us ordering. In short don't ever go to this restaurant!

worst take away ive ever had. ordered garlic chicken & rice with spring onion. quess what no garlic and very little spring onion. very disappointing

Delivery driver had problems finding us, but he called and we sorted it out. There was also a dish missing but to the restuarant's credit, they replaced it very quickly - it was back with us within 10 minutes of my calling.

Good food as always, but twice now i have had my food delivered to my door by a child.. whats that about?

Food tasted like it was all re cooked wasn't very nice won't be ordering again...

Really enjoyable, my only negative would be that the black bean sauce was VERY garlicy, otherwise all was delicious. Thank you.

Lovely tasty food with complimentary prawn crackers, even though I only ordered 1 dish which was unexpected but great. Would def order again but will try a few more dishes and order for the whole family.

was delivered very quickly, however I wish I would have just thrown my £32 out the window, don't usually leave reviews because I'm a very easily pleased person, this food was the worst meal I have ever eaten was truly horrible, I threw pretty much everything away. every sauce was too sweet, not much taste to anything else, bad rice, will never eat again from there

Ordered on a Friday night, had to call them twice as my order was so late. When the delivery girl finally arrived my food was warm but not hot. At that point I was too hungry to bother sending it back. Food was okay, nothing special.

2hr wait that was 40mins when order was placed

The food was 30 mins late I ordered it at 720 and I got it at 910 which is a ridiculous amount of time to wait for a takeaway not good at all and really not happy with the service of witham house

We find it can be hit and miss with this place. The samosas this time were not so great but everything else was fine.

First time ordering from here. The food was bang on time, nice and hot and good portion sizes. It was very nice, I'd order from here again. The chow mein was very nice, and I didn't finish my meal gasping for water, which is always great!

Food as good as ever and arrived on time

I normally really enjoy the food from here so I took a chance and ordered a set meal for two which included dishes I don't normally order. The beef in black bean sauce tasted like it was made purely of salt and was swimming in stock/gravy/sea water, the chicken with cashew nuts was quite nice but again very salty tasting. Got a really good amount of chicken balls though which are always really good from here, and the spring rolls - which I normally never eat - were really good. I'll order again because for my money it's the best Chinese food in Witham, but I'll stick to what I know and continue avoiding beef dishes.

Always outstanding food from here. It arrives piping hot and is, hands down, the best Chinese food in Witham.
