Taste Of China in Braintree

Disappointing. This place used to be so much better. Cold food and chow mein was quite bland. Ridiculously small portion of crispy seaweed was also cold, tasteless and a complete waste of money. Shame as this takeaway is local to us but will definitely not be going back.

Great chinese takeaway, parking is easy except during the rush hour. The staff are all very friendly. Telephone order are preferred and yoy normally can collect your food in 10 minutes, Fridays and Saturdays can be longer. The food is very good quality and the portions are of a good size. They do not cake card payments CASH only. We have been going here for years and never been disappointed.

I needed food and since my last review it was open.. Sadly the egg fried rice had no egg in it, The prawn crackers were hard. The sweet and sour sauce came out of a bottle and was below average. The chicken balls were clearly frozen and overcooked. The beef curry was as asked. Spicy hot. Shame I couldn't chew the beef. Tough as old boots. Many years ago this used to be the best. Now it is all about using cheap ingredients and charging a lot of money. Don't bother going

Very good service and great food.

Didn't let me order my chicken balls and when I called them she was extremely rude and said unspeakable things to me. I feel very personally attacked and when I ordered 40 chicken balls she was judging me. I wouldn't recommend this place as the staff I talked to were extremely horrible and rude.

Went for a takeaway this evening for an order for 8 hungry people. It was supposed to be open. We tried phoning with no reply. Thought they must be busy so just turned up. Closed!!!!! Sadly they lost a huge order

Hands down the best Chinese in Braintree! I refuse to go anywhere else. Always exceptional service the lady who works at the tills is always so lovely and friendly. Food is amazing

Egg fried rice. Verging on inedible, salty stodgy mess. Chicken chow mein, not too bad very very bland. Chicken balls tiny, overall, waste of money, most of it went in the bin.

The worst Chinese I have ever had .I took 2 spoon fulls and put it in the bin

Had a really fast delivery. Our order taken at 7.23pm & our food was delivered at 7.50pm! The food was so delicious & absolutely perfect. Best Chinese we'd had in ages!

Food is great but they take so many orders and don't give enough time to make it all so if collecting the place gets packed and no where to park.

Been using this place for over a decade and it’s always really good! Today was the exception unfortunately not sure why it was so much worse but didn’t enjoy. The chicken balls were rock hard like they’ve been reheated and the chicken inside was chewy. I honestly hate when they reheat old food and still charge the same price although In this instance all their prices have gone up but the quality has gone down? Rice was hard, like it was reheated and the chow mein had that burnt taste it sometimes has. Disappointed would be an understatement but like I said usually they are very good just not today.

Omg! That was absolutely amazingly delicious 😋. We had quarter duck delicious, the satay chicken was amazing and so saucy, the shredded smoked chicken and soup again amazing! The food is definitely best chinese takeaway in town

Ordered £40 of food for delivery and was told by the guy on the phone it would be 45 minutes. He wasn’t overly friendly and throughout the whole ordeal made it clear he couldn’t care less! I called after an hour and was told 15 minutes, he said it was already prepared but the driver is in Cressing! I mean we’re 2 miles from Cressing so I asked so our food will just sit there waiting and he said yes but they have a food warmer! Lolz. I asked how long and he said when the Driver is back!!!!! I said I ordered over an hour ago and they are now 30 minutes over the time he gave me! Telling me it’s ready but sat there waiting to be delivered and the Driver is the village next to mine doesn’t reassure me it offends me!!! Why not bring my food when they did the Cressing order????? Another 30 minutes later and the lovely lady who I’ve always dealt with here delivered what I thought was my food. I’ll be honest she’s really lovely and she is the only reason I didn’t lose it! Went to dish up the food two hours after ordering and they’d made a chicken fillet curry and then poured over sweet and sour sauce like that’s a normal thing to do! I called the personality on the phone and he agreed it was wrong!! I hadn’t even finished speaking and he was trying to offer me, wait for it, yep you guessed it, CREDIT!!!!!!!!!!!! I only used this place for the curry, I waited two hours they delivered the wrong food and when I call to query he makes it so clear they don’t want to make it right by sending out the right food or offering a full refund I get offered credit!! Again the kind lady I’ve always seen since this place opened was the only reason I held myself back from saying something! I asked they deliver the curry I was waiting for for over two hours and 3 hours after I ordered! 3 hours! They brought the curry back and in case you’re wondering if they gave me anything extra as compensation, yes they did. Half a bag of prawn crackers for three hours wait and the wrong food and being treated like I’m in the wrong for finding that unreasonable and if you wanted to know what the food was like!!!!! The chips were so overcooked, the chowmein tasted burnt beyond belief and I’m still confused by a chicken curry cooked in no sauce then a load of sweet and sour tipped over the top and no one noticing! They don’t even do a chicken fillet sweet and sour dish!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Quite clearly they have a main chef for the weekends when they are decent and god knows who they let lose on a Wednesday but it’s not someone I’d let lose on my families dinner ever! I’m devastated I loved this place and the family that run it for years but £40, 3 hours later and it was burnt and not good quality!

As vegans, we often struggle to find suitable Chinese dishes, but after explaining to the staff we were talked through all the dishes available. We had a great first meal. When we returned, the manager had remembered us and offered us a new vegan starter for free to try. It was delicious! Really grateful for their help and brilliant meals!

Bad food they messed up my order. I asked them to bring the dish they forgot which we paid for and they wouldn't bring it. The food taste like metal

Smells so good when there... tastes very good when home.

Ordered via deliveroo, one meal wasn’t included in the order. When I phoned to let the restaurant know, they assured me that the missing meal would be sent out to us within 10-15 minutes. It’s been 2 hours and it’s not arrives so I’m assuming it’s not coming..

I ordered the Singapore noodles and duck wrap. The food was tasteless, bland and had no seasoning. One of the worst Chinese I've ever had.

Just had meal from them, ordered duck noodles with extra prawns, so actually got 2 prawns in meal and been charged £4.5 extra . Expensive prawns!!

They don't know the difference between vegetarian and vegan in 2021. I asked if they had vegan options....the guy on the phone said yes! I listed a few dishes off and he was confident they could be made vegan. Upon arrival the rice noodles and vegetables were full of egg. After eating the vegetable curry i experienced severe stomach cramps. Assuming that also had dairy or something in. Well i won't be ordering again. Very dangerous for someone who has allergies or intollerances. Don't say something is vegan or can be made vegan if it's not!!!

Went in for a quick Chinese , set menu A , just after 8pm Sunday night , not a problem , plenty of parking , was given lots of little extras for free 😁😁😁

not very impressed especially during covid 19....there is nothing on the website to basically say you must ring the shop up before ordering your takeaway......yes it does say telephone calls are welcome...but with what is happening all over the world at the moment,,,1]the owners should of put a notice up on the website "at the present time due to covid 19 please ring in with your order" ...2]the staff were NOT wearing masks...3] NOT everyone is on the internet....4] not everyone has a menu from the place to ring them up...the owners could not see where i was coming from when i said why isnt there any notices on their website page about covid 19.....on their shop window it said phone orders only and we had travelled 10 miles to get our chinese takeaway for our tea....we ended up getting our tea from elsewhere instead..

Very tasty food large portions and staff very friendly and generously gave us chicken in batter spring rolls tango prawncrackers and 1 sauce free wich just put a smile on my face during these hard times thank you

First visit to this takeaway as our regular and local takeaway was closed Food and service here was absolutely superb. The chef brought food to our car, exactly on time and in keeping with local restrictions. Outstanding portions and quality. Well done!

Still the best chinese food in Braintree

We enjoyed a freshly cooked and extremely tasty banquet to celebrate New Year’s Eve. Wide ranging menu is fab too. Just remember to take cash with you on collection. Many thanks 😊

There's a large menu for this takeaway, the portions are generous and the food is delicious.

This used to be our go to place for a take away as although they don’t deliver, it is only down the road. However after a couple of so so orders AND the fact that they started only taking cash we changed to a place that delivered. Decided to give it a go again recently and have to say, all the food was great. Fresh, tasty and still warm when we got it home. Did not feel I could warrant a 5 because you still can only pay cash and a takeaway that does not deliver is not ideal. But the food itself on this occasion was great!

Lovely food at reasonable prices. Just had birthday meal for 6 cost £55. So full up, only issue is they only take cash, but they do tell you when you order by phone.

I ordered a takeaway by phone, spent 17.30 with them and was given cold rice and beef with green peppers and black bean sauce, sweet and sour sauce that came with the king prawn in batter was the hottest thing we got.......very unimpressed with this.

Best I’ve had so far. And trust me I’ve tried most of them....👍🏻

We ordered takeaway from this litte takeaway shop for the first time. We ordered a starter appertizer for 2 persons , satay chicken were tasty, prawn toasts tasted fresh and spare ribs were juicy. For main, I had the Singapore vermicelli , it was not too spicy but taste just right for my pallet. My partner had curry chicken and fried rice. We also ordered an extra portion of sweet and sour chicken balls and portion of chips to share. All foods were cooked nicely and no hassle in collecting them and easy payment process. We will revisit again. Thanks.

Best quality Chinese food in town and probably Essex. Never had a bad one. My only gripe is their cash only policy.

I had a Chinese from here 2 weeks ago and it was awful, alarm bells should have been ringing when I saw it was empty and for the past 10 years it has always been packed out. Gave another try tonight as it has changed hands and can positively say we will not be returning. Absolutely disgusting food, such a shame.

Sometimes takeaway food can be hit & miss but this Chinese is very good. When we fancy a Chinese Taste of China is always the choice. The food is always tasty and packaged well which makes a big difference as there is no need to re-heat. Staff are always friendly and efficient.

I have bought a Chinese takeaway a few times from Taste of China over the last two or three years. I prefer the Chinese food from the New Village which is only 100 yards away. So I won't be going to Taste of China again unless New Village isn't open for some reason. Taste of China's food is OK though. I would give 3 and a half stars if I could.

Pretty good takeaway Chinese. They used to own the fish and chips shop as well, so you could order both but the fish and chips shop is under new management. So now you have to walk around and wait

Best local Chinese in town. The women who takes your order is a crazy happy women! Always jokes and laughs while you wait for it to be made! Doesn't deliver but no problem as it's always hot when I get it home :)

Have tried most of the Chinese take always in Braintree and this is by far the best. Usually order by phone and meal usually ready on time. Staff polite and helpful, only negative thing is cash only as they now no longer take credit cards.

My family decided to have a chinese takeaway on New Years Eve so we went to Taste Of China, it was the first time & would definately go back, the staff were very friendly & it had a good atmosphere,but the most importent thing was the food, Wow, could not eat it fast enough, & also got a free chinese 2016 calendar. Very nice all round.

Had many a takeaway from here and food is always excellent. Amazing value and no matter what I've tried it's always been superb.

The food here is very good.Order in advance, though, because they can get very busy.Parking is available, but can be a bit of a nightmare now that there's less room at the back than there used to be. Potential for arguments!

food hit and miss good one week not so good the next

Had a takeaway while staying at the A120 Premier Inn hotel..only a couple of miles away. Very good, hot food, well packaged..tasty and plentiful at a fair price. Parking was good to the rear of the takeaway..service friendly and fast. Would definitely use Taste of China again no problem.

always busy and orders only take 10 - 15 mins, good flavours and does not seem to be drenched in msg as many others are. Only take cash not card, not sure why this is as never used to be the case, but still the best around, parking available outside, situated to the rear of the golden fry chip shop.

Great food cooked to specification extra spicy Crispy chilli beef not so spicy smoked chicken we make changes every time and they are always so accommodating a great Chinese.

We have been eating at taste of china for years and thought it was about time I reviewed it. We love it. The food is gorgeous and the staff are always friendly and they will make a dish which is not on the menu if you ask. Reasonably priced and when ringing the order through its always around 10-15mins. Highly recommend. It's the best in Braintree.

Fantastic quality food, strongly recommend

Since our favourite take away/restaurant in Braintree closed down for a refurb we have struggled to find somewhere decent. Not now. The food at Taste if China was excellent. One small downside was that for me the crispy duck was a little over cooked. It turned out that this place is also owned by our past favourite. The spicy dishes we selected all had a nice kick to them. No deliveried but that doesn't bother us.It is a liitle hard to find but is behind the chip shop in Cressing road. just park at the back and you will see it.Really friendly staff.All in all I would recommend this place.

We have tried most of the chinese take aways in Braintree as sometimes you just want to pick up the phone and let them do all the work, including delivery. However after 7 years of living in Braintree & trying the rest we now only use taste of china, they are quick and usually only quote 10-15 minutes for collection and the food is well worth getting in the car for.

Been eating here for years. It's the best Chinese takeaway in Braintree bar none. The food is ready when they tell you it will be, is of consistently high quality, great value and served by very friendly people.Thoroughly recommended.
