The Winterbourne Arms in Wiltshire

Visited the Winterbourne Arms with my daughter and a friend. We all chose the carvery which was very good and reasonably priced. It was a pleasure to have fresh cooked vegetables and a good selection of them. The staff were very welcoming and the service was excellent but the nicest part was that they were all so cheerful and chatty. Something you don't experience in very many establishments these days. Will definitely return.

I've been for a meal there before and it was the same then. This time was no different. I was given two small slices of beef, which not much to shout about. To be very honest, you are much better to eat at the toby carvery in amesbury. Only good thing was the polite service.

Since we re-discovered the Winterbourne arms 4 months ago we have been going back regularly, ever two weeks. The staff are very friendly and cant do enough for you. The owner is very delightful often comes around and talks to her customers to make them welcome. The chef is second to none. As for the food, it is homemade home made and sourced locally. Would strongly recommend anyone to give it a try but one word of warning you may like us become hooked in it and keep going back.

Stopped off here unplanned after family day out and what a find, Brilliant! Excellent food, excellent service and such a laid back friendly atmosphere. Sat in garden so little ones could play in the spacious kiddie area(well fenced and clearly visible). Steak cooked perfectly, cod n chips tasty not greasy, kids sausage mash n peas wolfed down and burgers delicious. So friendly and welcoming so will have to make special trip out there to enjoy again.

Fantastic food, lovely staff. Will definitely go there again! The food was great and good size portions. The staff were polite and friendly and could not do enough to make sure you had a lovely experience.

We stayed over in our camper van. The staff were really helpful and friendly as well as welcoming. Great walking in the area, and at the end of the day there's a super pub dinner to be had. We were there on steak Tuesday. Great stuff, thank you!!

A great country pub in a picturesque Wiltshire village. The staff were incredibly welcoming and nothing was of much trouble for them. We chose the Sunday roast beef carvery. Great choice. The meal was superb. As much as we could eat, and home cooked through and through. We should add that we were visiting with our dog. He was also made very welcome and certainly ‘looked after’ by the staff! I will say no more. All in all, a great experience… probably the best dog friendly pub we’ve ever visited… and we’ve visited a fair few! We’ll definitely be back.

The recommendation from Salisbury locals didn't disappoint. Waitress Mel, was friendly, interested in our group, provided recommendations, gave us appropriate time to decided on orders. Food was freshly cooked: we all had the gourmet burgers! Will certainly be back again.

We had spent the morning at the rare breeds farm up the road and decided to pop in here for lunch on our way home back to Wareham. The waitress was really efficient and friendly. The menu had some great choices on it too. The food had a decent ‘wait’ time and was hot and delicious. Really pleased we stopped here.

Visited whilst passing through Winterbourne with some friends. Standard pub meals with some good specials too. Service was friendly and prices were reasonable. On the whole would visit again, but nothing stands out.

We took our granddaughter to Bournemouth for the day and planed to stop at the table to table pub for dinner but arrived to be told no chef no food so off to find somewhere for dinner, and wow what we found was amazing, great food, great service and our waitress was out of this world, thank you, we are going back to Bournemouth next month and guess where we are stopping for dinner

Sometimes luck goes your way. I was booked into a nearby hotel which has a pub next door and recently had issues resulting in their being no food. Hence, I had to look elsewhere. This pub has excellent staff, very welcoming. I asked for a rib eye (good price) which came quickly and was perfectly cooked. Next was the recommended Dorset apple cake. I hadn't heard of that before but I am glad I do now. Good pub, staff, beer and food. Also dog friendly!

Visited yesterday with our dog, who received the VIP treatment! The landlady was incredibly welcoming and checked in with us, and Buddy, frequently. The food was outstanding (compliments to the chef!) and service was brilliant. A lovely evening at a very friendly pub. Thank you!

Great service a young lad came straight to the table with a great attitude and very polite. he brought our food out asked if we needed anything and left us to it.

Really nice food. Pub food which is what I go to a pub for. Lovely play area. Management are great, young server's are young and inexperienced but nice enough. I wouldn't drop a bad review for two young staff just after summer work.

Great Sunday lunch . Friendly staff . Would go again it was quite busy but we were served quite quickly and it was very good value and good quality

We spotted the pub and after a walk on a Saturday, we decided to go in for lunch. The overall experience was that we were seated, had a long wait and a tiresome ordering process over about half an hour and then after that being told that our food would take a long time and did we still want to bother? Here's what happened: We went inside and were told to take our seats outside and that somebody would be over with menus. After about 10 minutes a waitress came over and asked what drinks we would like - we asked for menus and she said "Sorry, they aren't ready yet". We asked what drinks they had - I asked which flavours of Koppaberg they had (as I'd spotted some bottles behind the bar) - the waitress appeared to have never heard the word before let alone know the answer and went in to check. She came back five minutes later and took our drinks order. The drinks arrived as did the menus. We decided what to order and then waited another few minutes. She took our order, bur didn't appear to even vaguely understand what was on the menu - and we had to explain the menu to her (despite it being uncomplicated). Eventually our order was taken. About 10 minutes after this, a manager came over with the waitress to say "just to let you know, there is a 40 minute wait on food", so we decided to cut our losses and leave. I don't like leaving negative reviews, but I do this in the hope that things might improve...

Lovely village pub with a warm welcoming. We decided to have lunch at Winterbourne Arms because they are dog friendly and my little Yorkie had a couple of treats from the staff. The menu has an excellent range of starters and main meals. The hunters chicken served with a fresh salsa salad with mango and melon was fantastic, compliments to the Chef. We will definitely returning soon to have a Sunday roast. Thanks to the staff and owner for a Great lunch.

Carvery and dessert were lovely. Food was all home made and very nice. Atmosphere and staff are really friendly. Appears to be family ran, I may be wrong but it gives here a much warmer welcoming feel. Very satisfied and we will be returning.

Mediocre at best.Bar staff not wearing a face mask when serving food or drinks to the table and one of them was smoking inside the premises. (my clothes now smell of cigarette smoke which is disgusting) Lunch was bland (I ordered Chicken Tagliatelle) which was tasteless. Server not aware of out of stock ingredients which meant my friend couldn’t order what he wanted from the menu as certain ingredients had not been delivered and we were not advised until after the order had been placed. Save your money and go elsewhere.

Visited here for lunch with a friend, booked in advance so that all went smoothly and they now have the app, so better than handwriting your personal details for everyone to see in an older style visitor's book on arrival, as was the case on a previous visit. Unfortunately, this time the food wasn't as good as the previous time. The burger wasn't very good quality meat, was very plain and was certainly average, at best. The omelette looked like a thin yellow plastic frisbee and was supposed to be ham and cheese - not much sign of any cheese, very dry and unseasoned. Might try another visit, but would avoid the burgers and omelettes. I think the fish and chips are probably their stronger dish! Didn't complain at the time, as it was a treat lunch for my friend, so didn't want to spoil our outing. Not very impressed.

We moved locally to the winterbourne arms in March 2020 and used the takeaway service during lockdown. Fish and chips x 3 and then again a few weeks after fish and chips, scampi and burger, all delivered-freshly cooked and piping hot. We ate there more recently during the eat out to help out scheme. This again was excellent, great friendly service and very very covid aware (one way in another way out). Would recommend for good pub food and bubbling atmosphere. Good outdoor space. Dog friendly. Kid play park.

Drive passed on the way home to salisbury, lovely staff but the food was shocking! Would never eat here again.

Came for a day out and stumbled apon here for lunch. Decor inside could do with a re vamp but don’t let that put you off because the food and service was top quality! A group of seven of us had lunch here earlier in the week. I hadn't been here since it was known as The Tything Man (so many years ago) - it has changed a lot for the better. We all got a very warm welcome and had a lovely meal. Everywhere was clean and tidy.

Good ole fashioned service & reasonable price - so friendly and nothing too much trouble - if you want all the frills then this won’t be for you but if the heart of the place is more important then book up now - Had carvery and well catered for vegetarian option too. Booked this for our annual Xmas get together and we were not disappointed. Welcomed on arrival by Sarah and left to sort our drinks out awaiting for everyone to arrive. We consciously decided we didn’t want an Xmas menu and the choice off the main menu was wide and varied catering for all diets. All the group were complimentary about their choices and portions were good. One minor observation, the plates where there was not a salad garnish should be hot/warm. We had an enjoyable evening and I for one will return

5 of us went to the Winterbourne Arms on Sunday 17th November for the carvery. What a fantastic meal. Excellent food, great surroundings, lovely staff! Carvery deal, 2 or 3 courses for £12. 99. Superb value all round! My 91 yr old father in law said it was the best beef, he’d had in years! Well done all.

Since changing hands we have ended up coming here a couple times a month! The owners are great! Very friendly! The food is delicious and very fairly priced! I'll recommend this place to anyone! Locals and visitors should definitely give it a try

We first drove past this pub but glad we did a u-turn. Car park quite big, on the outside it looks a bit old and tatty but when you go inside, it's really clean, staff friendly also very friendly locals. A nice surprise. Me, my Husband, Son and Mother in-law decided to try the Winterbourne Arms for our meal this evening and what can I say!! The new owns have worked hard to bring the standards up in this pub!! It had a fantastic atmosphere and the people working were so friendly!! They made us feel like regulars!! Our food was amazing!! The chef there should be proud of the food he sends out in to the restaurant!! Not even did it look fantastic, it tasted amazing!! Everything was fresh and yummy!! The bread pudding is highly recommended!! Homemade and delicious!! If your stuck for somewhere to eat, give the Winterbourne Arms a go!!

We were looking for a carvery in the Salisbury area but having been recommended one to find out that they had never done a carvery and their simple roast dinners were nearly £16 we carried on. It was getting late and we were very hungry when a sign said Sunday Carvery 12 - 4. They had plenty of room so we had the carvery, I had beef, husband had beef and pork

We booked a table for 13 very last minute as we were in the area. This is our first visit and will definitely not be our last. The portion sizes were certainly filling, the food was fantastic, as was the service. The staff were very friendly and could not do enough for us.

Visited for lunch today with family ranging from 6year old right through Great-Granny’s age. Food was gorgeous, large portions and freshly cooked. Hosts were fab, friendly but not over bearing. Would recommend to families of all ages.

Opening night.....horrendous experience. After 40 mins of waiting for food, we asked where it was. Silence. Another 10 mins we got told the order had only just been processed, even though we paid cash at the bar an hour earlier! Got food, mediocre to say the least. No staff to attend any of the restaurant customers; left cash on the table to cover the cost of our drinks & went home. Complained later via fb msg, only to be accused of not paying for our food! They admitted they had a problem with their till & food ordering system to the kitchen but were not prepared to check their till roll! Horrible treatment by them to us. I have the whole transcript still!

This is a lovely village pub with lovely people running it thy are friendly and always smiling and the food is delicious I had a king prawn salad it had a very generous helping of prawn delicious

Desde nuestro primer viaje, hemos vuelto varias veces a este maravilloso pub. Un pub de pueblo muy típico que es difícil de encontrar. La comida es fantástica, los asados ​​son de muy buen tamaño, una buena variedad de bebidas ya un precio muy razonable. Hay un fantástico jardín apto para niños. El personal es encantador y servicial.

Fuimos a nuestro local para encontrar que estaba cerrado, ya que estaba cerca decidió probarlo, qué delicia, un verdadero pub con un personal amable y una deliciosa comida al mediodía muy bien presentada. Definitivamente regresaremos en el futuro y lo recomendaremos.

Reservamos una mesa ayer para esta noche para que pudiéramos ver el fútbol en la pantalla grande mientras cenábamos. Llegamos con minutos de sobra para decir que no hay cocinero esta noche y ofrecimos un 15% de descuento en nuestra próxima visita. No hace falta decir que estamos sentados en casa viendo el fútbol y que nunca volveremos a visitar el Winterbourne Arms.

Had a great meal here last night. I had steak my sister had pie and my husband had chicken salad all cooked to perfection.

Came here last year and staff were very helpful in any information and queries I had! Would recommend and would visit again!

Prices fair and food not bad but like many other reviewers I found the service and attention patchy at best. There's a need to be more professional when it comes to communications between members of staff. On the positive side then fix the service issues and the whole offering will come together far better.

Arrived at the pub at 12-30 but no signs of life?? eventually someone opened the door and said that they were not doing any food?? from there appearance it looked like they had just got of of bed.

A lovely country pub with a good lunch and dinner menu. Particularly good for Sunday lunch with a lovely mix of roast options and delicious desserts. The pub feels very homely and would recommend a visit if you are in the area.

Was impressed with the renovations new owners have carried out-was told they will be revamping garden/play area next.

Stopped for light lunch with three friends,very friendly staff and the food portions were ample and well presented,we ordered baguettes which came with salad,coleslaw and fries and in good time,wouldn't hesitate recommending the pub and will use again
