The Winged Spur in Stratford-on-Avon

Food was very good...however the service let it down...we had to ask for our cutlery bucket with napkins...another table had their bucket before their meal came...no service with a smile..quite a chore to serve us

Following a second visit in early December which, after a good experience a month before fell quite short of what we expected, we visited again today for Sunday lunch and had a first class meal. Atmosphere was really nice, food was excellent and so was the service. Thank you to Manager, Chloe. We look forward to eating with you again soon.

What a lovely evening made extra special by Chloe, who was a great hostess and who also found some crackers when we explained it was a rearranged Christmas get- together! Food was also delicious so BC a a big thank you all round

Have been for Sunday lunch a couple of times and have been really impressed. We were disappointed on this occasion (this was the first time our friends had been) because at 7:30pm we were told two items on the menu were unavailable. Portions were also perhaps on the meagre side. That said, staff very pleasant and attentive.

Excellent refurbished gastropub under new management. From the warm welcome to the friendly goodbye everything was very enjoyable. Lovely ambience, efficient service, extensive and varied menu. Thanks to Eleanor and Chloe for your attentive and friendly service. We’ll be back!

We love visiting since it’s reopened. Great food and really friendly staff. Really can’t fault the place at all! Go you won’t regret it!

Visited as a group of four, our first time. Impressed with the decor, food was very good ( 2 had crispy belly pork, can recommend ) Very attentive service from Lola & Dan, altogether very pleased with our evening.

I went on Friday with my brother and four children under four (aka we brought chaos with us) My dad grew up in the village and this used to be his local so after hearing it had been taken over we wanted to visit. The staff were SO friendly. The food was fab and really amazing value and the pub looks great. Will definitely visit again

Enjoyed a great lunch with grandchildren in this recently refurbished pub.The food was excellent despite a chewy calamari,which was quickly and cheerfully replaced.Perfectly cooked fish and chips.Haddock cooked in crispy batter and moist fish inside.Desserts also very good.Light toffee pudding lapped up by the youngsters.Both the young staff were thorough in every way.Clearly well trained and welcoming.Going to be a regular visit for us in the future.

Visited this pub for the first time since refurbishment and they have done a cracking job. Looks and feels superb. The menu is really varied, not too expensive and food quality first class. Shout out to our waitress Chloe who made us so welcome. Will definitely go back.

We were at the pub last night lovely pub visit there often fab staff and food. The staff can’t do enough for you the food is always fresh and to a high standard. It was a shame to see some people being impolite and not following the rules to support the staff and keep us all safe. I was re assured by the way that it was dealt with by the Manager’s there. Zero tolerance policy. A pub you can eat at with confidence. Go winged spur your worth the 40 minute travel time.

We had a great evening there recently which prompted us to write a review about our local! Great beers and nice wines, and hearty food to go with. Sat next to the warm open fires it's a great spot to spend an evening. Dog friendly pub too which is a huge bonus.Wednesday nights are home made curry nights which are amazing! Better than going out for a curry to a curry house, and the service and staff are super friendly. Very thankful for the pub in times like this too.

Not your average village pub, far from it,as they are usually friendly and welcoming.The Winged Spur has everything you need to ruin an evening out- extremely rude staff, bad management, less than average food and a tendancy to run out of popular beers, wines and spirits. Very much geared to the lunchtime blue rinse brigade, but haven't any idea on how to treat the local regulars. Don't seem to realise that it is these customers that are their bread and butter. Sorry to say that despite it being our local, we will now be going elsewhere to drink, after once again being pretty much thrown out an hour before closing, simply because it was quiet and staff wanted to go home. Nothing like having lights switched off around you to get the hint.If the Winged Spur was the last pub on earth, I would become tea total

our table was booked for 5 pm we got there a bit early and the lady I think was the manager was very rude and the food we order was rubbish we had mixed grills and 2 parts of the meat were missing when we asked all we got was I have a word with the chief no sorry come for a very meal or discount will never go again

Visited with friends for a pre booked evening meal, we were looking forward as our previous visits for drinks had led us to recommend and take our friends for dinner as it was of good ambience, sadly not on this occasion, we were greeted and ordered to a table as we explained that we would like a drink before dining much to the disbelief of the waitress, and given a table in a rather very ordinary out building by the entrance, on trying to order drinks we were told that there was no beer on (fri night?) and only one cider, we ordered one lager and one cider to receive two lagers, the waitress explained that the menu was very limited as they had had a busy night (it was 18.00?) we ordered what was available and asked if we could go to our dinner table, to be told we were sitting at it, the pubs main area was quite except for a family with young children and dogs, and a party of friends, guess locals, standing chatting at the bar.The meals were served with the contents only Luke warm, the deep frying fat was obviously past it's best in quality and taste we asked for a wine menu to be told there wasn't one, so ordered a house white, this although in a ice bucket came warm, we were astonished on paying our bill to find the very average white wine was £25! Little wonder they don't have a menu with prices on, sadly whilst trying to support local businesses in these trying times, and it was not a eoho evening it was full price, this didn't Spur us on for future visits.

Stopped here on the off-chance. I had possibly one of the best value Sunday lunches for a very long time. Well cooked, tasty and the price point is the winner. The ability to add extras to the lunch at little cost is a great touch. My red wine was reasonably priced and my beef was tender and tasty. Service was amazing; very friendly staff. My fiancée’s bar snacks were well cooked too. Well worth a trip out here for lunch. Top marks.

We’ve had a few so so Sunday roast dinners out near us, so we relied on TripAdvisor for a recommendation and I’m so glad we did.The Winged Spur’s Sunday roast was highly-rated and it easily lived up to that.Our family all had a beef dinner with lots of veg, tasty gravy and huge Yorkshire’s and it was one of the best we’ve ever had out, for £10 each. Plenty of it too.10/10 and we’ll definitely be back.I add my big recommendation to the others on here - perfect roast.

We visited 23rd August and enjoyed a delicious Sunday roast dinner. The service was good, restaurant was clean and cosy and the food excellent. The portions were generous too and all very good value for money. Definitely recommend and we will return.

Visited here on a Tuesday night. Lovely seating area in the garden which was clean. Tables were spread out and hand sanitiser was placed at the entrance. Staff were helpful and attentive asking if we were ok for drinks regularly.First time eating her and the food was lovely. Big portions well cooked. Will definitely return.

We ordered sunday roast to be delivered and received the most incredible service from phone call up untill delivery! The food was absolutely outstanding, 2 roast beef dinners with all the trimmings and more and a Turkey dinner for our children. It was all ready to eat right away, crisp yorkshires and potatoes, fresh veggies. So much food at such good value.Massive thank you to all of your team! Can't wait to visit in person!!

Our son has just had a delicious meal delivered from this pub. Fish, chips, mushy peas, onion rings and dips. From Ullenhall it was only £2 delivery fee to Matchborough East, Redditch. He was very pleased. Arrived piping hot within twenty minutes. He would definitely recommend.

During a very difficult time for all, our local pub The Winged Spur now does a takeaway menu delivering to local villages for a £2 fee, not a huge choice on the menu but it was greatly appreciated and enjoyed last Saturday night, we ordered fish and chips mushy peas which arrived hot. We throughly enjoyed it a big thank you to you all.Considering how we are all feeling at the minute come on locals give our local a go and order a take out and help keep the pub going.

Went here Saturday evening with my wife for a meal. We were given a warm welcome on entering and asked if we could have a table for two as we had not booked. Our host said he would just go and prepare our table. A minute later we were shown to a table in the bar area, very busy but really cosy with a great atmosphere. Good choice of food and drink with a variety of cask ales. I had a Brie and bacon burger and my wife had the ham and scotch egg both with chunky chips, there are other options. Food was really good and plentiful. Service was spot on, all round a good experience and will definitely be coming back.

Two vegetarians and two carnivores all enjoyed their meals. The "Winter Vegetable Pie" was particularly good. The staff were friendly and helpful.

We had a warm welcome by the manager as if we had known him forever! This was a family celebration and were shown to our seats promptly without any fuss and our order taken. The curry was an absolute delight! Lots of large, succulent prawns in a sauce to beat the best! The onion bhaji was probably the best i have eaten, anywhere, and the home made poppadoms and the accompanying chutneys and riaiti just hit the spot.To go to a local pub and have this sort of excellence is rare, if not impossible to find. Go on a Wednesday and experience it, you will not be disappointed!

We love it here.....fab place, been here a few times with my 3 kids and it’s very child friendly, staff are LOVELY, it’s got a real relaxing vibe to it, foods good, tasty & reasonable, drinks good too!! Inside is lovely country pub decor with a roaring fire. X

I would want friendly efficient staff, being helpful and lighthearted serving great food and drink in a great location . My only disappointment is that it’s not my local. Jane and Martin were excellent hosts and I will definitely go back to sample more of their menu oh and did I mention great value The cook deserves a mention too , Wednesday is curry night I had the best bhajis I’ve ever tasted and a delicious prawn curry real depth of flavours.

Try to support this pub as it is the only pub in this village. A few of the staff are pleasant and welcoming but several visits have been spoiled by sullen unenthusiastic brusque behaviour. Reasonably priced lunch menu .

For a party of 23! This pub smashed it! Food came out all at once, no blips, hot and delicious! They presented my little boys 1st birthday cake with a sparkler candle adding to the enjoyment of the day. I can’t recommend the staff and service enough from this pub they just could not do enough for you. Thank you for making our little boys 1st birthday so special! We’ll be back to try your famous roasts! If you are ever served by the lovely Jayne you will not be disappointed, she is ace and will make sure your looked after.

Went to this place for my sons birthday and uncles birthday.Having booked three weeks in advanced becuase we were a party of three children and fifteen adults.., we were told no problem becuase we had booked for a time early ( 5.oclock) we arrived lady behind bar was extremely abrupt and rude (nothing was ready) they moved us three times to get us into a space fitted us sister in law had been told it would be better for us to pre order our food becuase we were a large party. Several of party hadn’t ordered so when we got there they said we needed to hurry and order as our meals were nearly ready (we then waited 45 mins for meals to come out) and they didn’t all come together. Now the food several of the meals came out not very warm including mine never got much help when told so w3 paid and left. Will absolutly not returning very soon.

First time to this pub it was the works belated xmas do it is a fantastic place the food was good not great it was a hot buffet the meat and potatoes were brilliant but the veg and cauliflower,broccoli cheese was undercooked for my taste when you can't get your fork in a carrot it is raw

Feeling a bit low after NYE and a heavy cold decide we would eat out and try somewhere that friends had enjoyed previously.

What a little gem of a place !! Food was absolutely amazing there were 13 of us & not one of us was disappointed!!

Visited the winged spur on Tuesdays steak night, the female chef was excellent! The steak was cooked to perfection and the meal was beautiful! The blue cheese sauce was incredible, would recommend the winged spur to anyone.

First and last visit, let’s start with ordering drinks and served the wrong one. Then our food arrived mine just warm with a nice black hair waiting on my food for me, and my partners with added cheese on his food which it never stated on the menu.

Popped in for lunch on a weekday. Very helpful and friendly staff. Wide menu choice, great ambiance. Very competitive prices particularly taking location into account! The food was as in my headline superb. Generous portions, good quality and well prepared. Will certainly visit again.

Tuesday night steak night, we ordered mixed grill and ribeye steak the price includes a bottle of wine, great value for money, the service was great all for 28.50 Christmas Decorations look very festive well worth a visit. Have some great tribute bands on during December check it out on the website.

We ate here a couple of weeks ago for Sunday lunch. We rang to book a table for about 4pm, we asked if they would have turkey left and they kindly kept enough back for us. Very comfortable restaurant with a nice relaxed and informal atmosphere. Turkey dinner was £9.95, to include roast potatoes (which were a little hard) Yorkshire pudding, plenty of veg and cauliflower cheese was also included in the price. You can order extra gravy, which was £1 for a small jug (I felt this was a little pricey, maybe £1 for a large jug or not charge at all)

I’ve never had a favourite pub till now. This pub is so welcoming the food is fabulous the drinks are gorgeous and the staff so friendly. Been several times. Called in yesterday for Sunday lunch Jane seated us and got or drinks G&T; for me and Lager for hubby

It was my father in laws 60th and we had a party of 20! And we had fantastic service, not only was the booking and pre orders made so easy, on arrival we had a whole section to ourselves, brilliant waitress service, food was delicious and all came out at the same time! Nothing was too much trouble! Will be returning again that’s for sure!

We went with friends for lunch. We had mains and desserts from the lunch time menu. Excellent quality, value, choice and very well presented. As I am gluten free I usually find it very hard to eat out, but here I had a great choice. I chose liver and onions with mash and peas. It was really good, anyone who is gluten free knows how hard it is to find gravy that does not have wheat in it. So this was a real treat for me. There was also a good choice for gluten free puddings. We will definately be returning.

The winged spur really is a hidden gem. With beautiful design and warm decor it certainly has a relaxing atmosphere and is the perfect place to dine. High quality food at reasonable prices along with extremely helpful and happy staff I could not rate this place higher.

Recently visited here for a rare dinner out with friends, and after the usual indecisiveness over destination, we definitely chose a good one. The atmosphere was friendly, the food was delicious and the staff were top notch. Will certainly be returning on the next child free outing, still have more gins left to try!

Visited the winged spur for my sisters birthday, I am coeliac so wasn't expecting there to be a good range of gluten free but it was outstanding! I had pasta, garlic bread and chips all gf! Topped off with an amazing chocolate sponge pudding, can't rate this place enough, food really was 5*. We can't wait to visit again.

Visited this pub for food and drinks and was very impressed with the setting, feel and all round warmth this place affords you when relaxing here.

I dont know what is going wrong at this restaurant but the owners need to take notice of their recent reviews on TripAdvisor. We had lunch there on Saturday and whilst the pub decor is very modern and welcoming the quality of food and customer service is very poor and far below the standard you would expect. Our meals arrived after a lengthy wait and the staff knew that we were getting concerned and had finished our drinks but there was no apologies, indeed they avoided our table and eye contact. It was a most uncomfortable experience. When the meals did eventually arrive, three were reasonable but the chips were burnt . The fourth meal was disgusting, over cooked and a big lump of fat where the gammon should have been, I wish now that I had taken a photo. We mentioned this to the waitress but she just didn't know what to say! The waitress and gentleman behind the bar spent all the time talking and we saw the waitress eating at one point. We came away feeling very disappointed as we had been recommended here and it was a family celebration.

Just pleased that the Spur are keeping up their great quality of food and great service. You only have to ask and they will try assist with any special requirements if they can. They really want you to go away happy!

We visited the winged spur Saturday morning to watch the rugby the pub was very busy and the staff worked so hard to make sure everyone was fed and watered in a very quick and helpful manner no one had to wait, they all worked so hard to make sure that everyone had a great time. Just a shame about the end score. We would definitely recommend the Winged spur to any friends or family who want somewhere to eat or just drink nothing to too much trouble for any of the staff.

Been to the Spur a good few times and will always return. We have always had brilliant customer service and tasty meals. A great pub to go just for a drink or a good meal!

My son and I recently went to watch rugby would cup at the winged spur and found it very warm and welcoming , the breakfast they provided was one of the best i have had in a while with everything we wanted and more , the staff were very pleasent and more than attentive . We will definately be back in the future .

Yesterday we went to the winged spur to celebrate a birthday and anniversary. This restaurant had been recommended to us. We arrived at the restaurant and were actually the only people there. We ordered drinks and food. While we were doing this another couple arrived and a group of four people. We had our drinks and sat back and waited and waited and waited, a full 45 minutes. People on the next table who had come in after U.S. Had their meals, had eaten them and were leaving as our meals came. The other table had been served starters and their meals were served straight after ours. Still only 8 people in the restaurant. However, the meals came, mine was lovely, I could not fault it, two others were lovely but the tartare sauce arrived as they were being finished as they couldn't find any! My brothers meal was dreadful, when it arrived it looked really well done, burnt in places, he was unable to eat some parts as it was fat and too well cooked. Two members of staff stood all the time by or behind the bar talking when it was obvious that we were not happy. This is a lovely restaurant but spoilt by lack of customer care and unacceptable unexplained wait for food.

Disappointed with our very first visit. The pub is clean and inviting. The background music volume is too high to hold a reasonable conversation. Service, although very friendly is very slow which maybe caused by insufficient staff in the kitchen? Portion control needs attention as the plate is "piled" high and presentation off putting to say the least. The food quality was nothing more than just acceptable with the roast beef tough and the roast potatoes under-cooked. Attention to detail would make this a great place to dine and drink.

Went here today for an anniversary lunch after a recomendation. It took 45minutes to get our crimated meals.

Exceptional service, friendly but not in your face. Food was really good, needed a lie-down afterwards. All in all excellent value for money.

Wanted to put in my review and the biggest thank you especially to Kam and Serena, we had a party of 10 in the snug, I love the winged spur there is always a lovely atmosphere in there and so nice last night with the logs burning, nice music playing not too loud just nice background music, every meal was cooked to perfection so thank you to the chef and as promised 4 animal ice creams were bought out for my 4 grandchildren to their absolute delight and that made the night it is such a lovely touch, we arrived around 5 to be welcomed by Kam She is such a fantastic caring person and absolutely made our night and had us in stitches, she was so attentive and what was lovely she knew we had a little 2 year old and would be watching the time for his bedtime, Serena is lovely too and she has served us many times before, thank you so much to everyone at the winged spur for making my celebration so special xxxxxxxxxx

We visited this pub on a friend's recommendation, and we were not disappointed!!! The staff were very attentive and friendly. The food was gorgeous! We had the cod and a burger, my daughter is a bit of a fuss pot with burgers so to see her clean the plate was definitely confirmation that it was good. Thank you all for a lovely evening

After reading the good reviews on the Winged Spur we decided to give it a try the staff were lovely people but the food i ordered the chicken and bacon with spaghetti pasta and garlic and mushroom sauce the chicken was cold and the meal looked like it had a tin of mushroom soup poured over it shocking my partner had what was described on the menu as steak and kidney puff pastry pie this was not puff pastry at all so upset as it was my Birthday and all i had to eat was my garlic bread.

We visited the pub today with my parents and young granddaughter, following a review on the Henley Matters Facebook page. A lovely place with very friendly staff. We ordered from the lunch time menu and the mixed grill and fish & chips were excellent, both in terms of quality and value for money. Although our first visit here, we were treated like regular customers. A thoroughly enjoyable lunch time - thank you.

Just returned from the Winged Spur this evening, fabulous welcome from the deputy manager as soon as we walked through the door, my other half was told by his friend it was curry night but unfortunately it was the night before the, deputy manger said she would go into the kitchen and make us a curry as still had the fresh ingredients.

We visited at the last moment having booked a table at the nearby bluebell in henley only to find it closed and empty.

We popped in for an early tea; 4 adults and 4 children. Staff were friendly, helpful and service was quick. The food was delicious and all portions very generous.

Visited weekday lunchtime. Staff very friendly and cheerful.2 ordered from the bar bowl and 2 ordered from main menu (fish) could not fault the meal everything cooked to perfection and also very generous portions. Nice to sit in a pub that was clean and really pleasant surroundings. Will definitely return very soon.

Just got back from our first ever visit with these owners, we had the 2 for £16.50 summer special lunch and it was beautiful, I had the gammon and pineapple and my husband had lasagne, we were in the room to the left as you go in and was sat next to the snug, a rather large party of people were in there with very noisy children not being parented at all and continuously screaming and the one lady in the party was also very loud,absolutely not the pubs fault but we did ask if we could move tables and really kindly and with no fuss at all the lovely waitress allowed us to move into the other room, both waitresses were superb and ran everything so smoothly and with a smile, we will definitely be back soon and hope that when winter comes a winter 2 for £16.50 will be put on as I think brings in more customers, thank you for a lovely meal

Nice cheap lunchtime menu, not massive but just right for midday, I had the gammon and my wife had a chicken and mash dish followed by delicious home made rice pudding. Best bit though is the staff, Jane I think her name was waited on us and could not do enough a real credit to the business

warm welcome 1st visit to this amazing restaurant and it wont be the last. eight people celebrating my grandson passing his driving test . I had the salmon it was excellent the boys had steak with a free bottle of red wine . Fish and chips largest piece of fish I have ever seen and lots of chips, Staff were very friendly even the chief came out and greeted us, what make this place so special is the food and the staff

Visited early evening and was undecided as what to eat. We plumped for a tray of Indian starters and it was superb. The onion bhaji’s were lovely everything was cooked fresh and the presentation was great. Will be visiting again very soon.

The food is fantastic and the staff are always putting the customer first. The menu has loads of options especially for kids and they are always happy to go that extra mile.

We were looking forward to eating here after reading some good reviews, however what a disappointment.

The place is nice and the food is decent. But we came here for my moms birthday (23 of us) and the way they laid the room out for seating was appalling. Me and my other half had to sit at a table on our own. So I couldn’t even sit with my mom. This ruined the night. They definitely need to sort out some sort of seating arrangements for large parties.

I’m a career so finding a place to eat can sometimes be difficult especially for wheelchairs. The winged Spur is wheelchair friendly with a good size disabled toilet facilities. Staff were very welcoming and couldn’t do enough to ensure that we were comfortable and happy. Excellent service. Food was all home made and delicious, generous in size. It was clean with a lovely atmosphere. The decor was beautiful. Couldn’t fault the place. Will definitely recommend it.

Great Sunday lunch today. Food is all cooked so fresh and staff really good. Jane especially looked after us. Its a great country location and we’ll visit again soon. Very much recommended

Middle meeting place for late lunch with a friend who had been to The Winged Spur a number of times before

I booked a business trip for a week and this was the local pub. The staff quickly became friends as this place was so welcoming! James, Martyn and Kam were just so friendly and quite happily went there by myself. I love an hour away but will definitely be coming back. The food was alway amazing, hot and delicious.

Really good night, great food and friendly, helpful staff. Lovely atmosphere to sit and have a good catch up with friends - brilliant evening! And the Greek dancing at the end capped off a great night.
