We just happened to walk past the Wine Rooms on our way from the train station to the hotel and decided to give it a go the next night. This was absolutely the best choice we could have made! The wine was delicious and the food (the 5 cheese platter and the seafood platter) was out of this world amazing. I don't think I've ever had such good salmon. I fully and completely recommend with no reservations.

Hadn’t been for a while but went Friday night. Enjoyed some themed sharing boards which had the highest of quality foods on. Really we’re delicious and 2 x £22 boards enough for 4 adults, bargain! Our female S.A hostess was fantastic. Lovely person and very knowledgeable with the wines. I’d very highly recommend going and I’ll be back again soon. Thanks T, you made our night. A lovely wine bar in the south of the city but close to where we were staying. A good choice of wines together with nibbles and light meals. We had a carafe of red with nibbles and it was so good that we went again the next night. Quite a small room with a downstairs available and you need to book as it was full when we went. Also, a little way from the city centre. I would thoroughly recommend it if you love wine.

I attended a wine tasting about Jura but before that I had a glass of wine while waiting for the class to start. The waiter was very polite, friendly and professional. I like that he kindly offers clients if they want to have a small taste before committing to a full glass of a wine. The Sommelier Gonzalo (I hope I'm writing his name correctly) doing the class was so good! I really enjoyed that he spent time going through the history, geography, type etc. of each wine. I finally have found a wine tasting at a level that I like. To me has been the best wine event I have ever attended in Cambridge. He was never bothered about all my questions, I felt like I learned a lot at this event. Just a recommendation: If you are going to the wine tasting make sure you eat before going as there are some nibbles to taste with the wine but not enough to fill up your stomach :) Absolutely recommended!

The Wine Rooms was a delightful experience for all the senses. Located just opposite one of the Botanical Gardens entrances (on Hills Road), a short walk from the City Cente or the Train Station and very easy to find. On arrival the staff were all very welcoming and greeted us with a smile. The interior design was a talking point for our group, it was clearly well thought out and the theme of the nearby gardens is reflected beautifully. The menus weren't intimadating but still had fantastic variety. We wanted to try everything! We asked the staff for their suggestions and they were happy to share their expertise and experiences with us and were extremely helpful in providing us drink and food that was perfectly matched to our individual palates. Everything we had was delicious and fantastic value for money. A must visit!

We went past this place a few weeks ago, and looking in the window, it looked like a really cosy place, so we booked and went there last night. The first thing to say is the staff are super friendly and really knowledgeable about their wines. Our lovely waitress (with the delightful name of Treasure) brought us a number of wines to taste so we could make our selection. We chose a full-bodied, Spanish red, which we loved. The only thing we were a little disappointed with was our food choices. We chose the borek and the mackerel pate small plates. We were advised that the borek was quite substantial, but the pastry was quite heavy (flaky pastry would have been better), and the potatoes overpowered the feta and spinach a bit too much. The mackerel pate was better, but we didn't like the radishes too much, and the thick brown bread it was served on was too sweet. We then decided on the meat platter and chose 3 different ones. Be aware that this is charcuterie, which wasn't made clear on the menu. I hope the above is helpful feedback and not too critical. It's a great place to go for an evening to enjoy wine and some food.

Staff were very kind and knowledgeable. Cheeses and meats made for a nice appetizer to accompany the wine. Sadly, the prices are far from competitive so it's not a budget-friendly experience. They also claim on their website to have 500 wines available, but we had a selection of perhaps 50? Rather curious. Either way, it's a pleasant stop nearby the Cambridge train station, just be prepared to pay dearly for it.

We've been here twice now for a pre-dinner drink - and neither time did it disappoint. A good and interesting range of wines served by staff who know about them (we asked questions about various wines on the list and got helpful answers) and make an effort to provide good service. I have no doubt that we'll be going again I see the more negative reviews comment on the food. This is a wine bar with essentially a bar menu - and doesn't claim to be otherwise. If you want to go for a meal, go somewhere else. If, like us, though, you want somewhere nice for a pre-dinner glass or two of wine, with a light bite to go with them (the anchovies were superb), this is for you. Unless you go fairly early, a good idea to book in advance, though!

£144 for 2 people to have 4 wine pairings with food which was essentially couscous and lettuce. The wine was fine but the food was horrendous they should perhaps taste it before they serve. So disappointed. Went a few months back and had proper food but this was awful - avoid! I’ve never written a review before so that’s how annoyed I feel! Fortunately we were in position to pay that much but the bill price came out of nowhere - certainly was not on the menu. They clearly saw an opportunity and took it!

Nice decor and good place to relax, but: Talk about greedy. If you buy a bottle of wine at £30 and want to drink it in, they charge £10 corkage and then 12.5% service charge. This means you are suddenly paying £45 for a well marked up wine event it was £30. Think the £10 needs scrapping as pure greed.

Only two, would have been one if our waitress and our lovely experience and rapport with her and the table presentation along with the atmosphere weren't the saviours. Our waitress was lovely and staff generally friendly however our visit was tainted by the attitude of the waiter who greeted us both, at different times as well so not great when two different people have the same experience. Food was half great, cauliflower tasted lovely and had lots of accompaniments, the leeks were so moreish with their whipped feta and nuts and I found the cake dessert personally subtly sweet which I liked. The other half of the food... Well toast edges so hard their knife struggles to even break an edge to cut it and mustard beans with the sausage were so saltly we each had a spoon off and had to send back. We came to understand the chef doesn't necessarily try everything they serve! Figures. Decided to order the blackberry cake dessert instead which had mixed reviews between us but that was taste on this occasion. If you wish for a sweet dessert possibly order something else. Part way through our meal, the wine cellar was opened for a period of time while some glasses were gathered and taken out, my aunt was left freezing as this was right beside her. Maybe there can be some consideration to the people you have seated right beside it and close the door as you prep yourself in there then come out, or give someone a heads up that it's quite cold so they can move themselves. Again it was this waiter, seemingly just not great at imagining his part in the customer experience. As we sat and continued to finish our wine after dessert, we felt watched and hurried by said waiter who just kept checking and looking at us in more of an expectant way, raising his eyebrows at one point.. Our waitress knew where we were at and we just feel he needed to communicate better there or something as he had also brought us dessert menus after we had already ordered it earlier in our night. It's a shame really as the place and night had potential and I'm sure still does, but one person can really affect an experience and the chef should probably test their food. Also, masks or face covering of any kind not worn by staff, heads up for anyone more concerned about this at the moment.

We’ve been to the Wine Rooms before, but were disappointed to find they seem to have moved to a tapas/cicchetti-style menu, with no obvious main courses, but a sausage roll (!) among the options. The first three plates we chose (ricotta & anchovy toast, roasted butternut squash and a dahl with yoghurt) arrived promptly and were very tasty, but from that point the servers seem to have lost interest. The much-anticipated sausage roll failed to appear, and on enquiring, we were told that it takes a while in the oven (which led me to expect something the size of a suckling pig). I suspect the sos roll had simply gone to the wrong table, as what was finally delivered was a fairly standard pub-grade item. The menu was initially left with us, in case we wanted to order more dishes or dessert, but during the extended wait for the sos roll, it was taken away, which felt a bit like “You won’t be wanting dessert, then.” As it happened, the unimpressive dimensions of the sos did leave us still peckish, so we managed to reacquire a menu, but that was followed by some olympic-class self-concealment and avoidance of eye-contact, so we gave up and asked for the bill. I should say the Miraval rosé (courtesy of Brad and Angelina), was very nice, but the 90s picks on the too-loud PA didn’t fit the wine bar ambience all that well, and the hard acoustics of the venue demanded a little voice-raising. In short, the Wine Rooms need to bulk up their dishes, turn down their sounds and raise their service game.

My main concern was the total lack of any ventilation in the basement with low ceilings - where I was sitting by the back wall. I felt very unsafe. The staff wore masks but no one else. I have been in endless lockdown as a Clinically Extremely Vulnerable person and strongly felt I put all that at peril by spending a few hours here. The food I was served was really not good quality either, my duck with lentils was so overcooked I couldn't cut itl. If you don't partake in the expensive wine, they charge for £5 for 330cl - so almost £15 for a pint! I could suggest fifty better places in Cambridge...

This is an odd review but a true reflection of our experience. Service was friendly and efficient. Nice selection of wine by the glass, but very expensive, and oddly priced in my opinion. Cheeseboard was only 3 cheeses but they were good and substantial. My problem with the Wine Rooms and will preclude me from going again are: 1. Atmosphere was sterile. Saturday night only 3 other tables in on the ground floor at 8pm, lighting was to bright, could have been taken down several notches and the music was elevator worthy. 2. Wine pricing odd. £6.50 for an entry level 125ml glass of wine is punchy and is at odds with the bottle price of £29. In other words they are selling the bottle at £39 if you have it by the glass... 3. Cheeseboard, which was nice, had maybe 400gms of cheese on it, great, and accompanied by about 7 crackers... so I asked for more. Duly delivered at an additional cost of £1.50 4. £54.01 for 3 small glasses of wine, cheeseboard, olives and bread is far too expensive. (inc 12.5% service charge) This place has only been open for a few months and I am keen to see it go well, but it needs tinkering, in my opinion.

A great addition to Cambridge's independent food and drink scene. The focus is on wines paired with a modern, seasonal menu. We ordered a selection of dishes from their All Day Bar Menu (Small Things and Sweet Things) as well as more substantial dishes from their evening menu. Each dish came with a recommended pairing. The wines were excellent and we really enjoyed such dishes as trout rillette, platter of cured meats, salmon pastrami with labneh, beef cheeks with skordalia, chocolate mousse and pistachio & lemon cake with poached apricots. Fine wine and good food in an unpretentious atmosphere with friendly, knowledgeable service.

I asked for their recommendations with my food and enjoyed some wines I had never tried before. The evening was super!! If you love wine, you should definitely go for a fancy night out with friends. Conveniently located walking distance to the train station for easy meetups.

I've been 5 times to Mercado Central. It used to be one of my favourite places to eat in Cambridge, certainly the only Spanish restaurant worth visiting. The prices went up by a lot after it appeared in the Michelin guide. I still thought "well the food is still worth it so I'll come for special occasions". Now in the last year it's all gone really bad. I just went today with a group of friends and paid north of 70 quid for mediocre and very pretentious food. Starters are okay, although for some reason they insist to put goats cheese in half of the dishes. The mains are a different story. I ordered my rib eye steak red in the middle, it came so dry and so thin it looked more like a flat iron steak. My wife ordered the fish... A couple of years ago I would've expected a nice full fish cooked in oil and garlic the Spanish way, but she got a mini piece of fish, that said, presented nicely (and as I said very pretentiously) with some lentils and red mojo sauce - another thing they put in half of the plates. On the side, I'm not sure why some of the descriptions try to use pseudo-Italian words as if they sound fancier. "Salmoretta" is not a thing, it is called "salmorreta". This is not a Spanish restaurant anymore. It's also not even a good food restaurant anymore.

I visited Little Petra for the first time today with a friend, following multiple recommendations. We booked a table, which is advisable as it gets busy, even on a Tuesday early evening. We had heard the portions are generous so decided to share the mixed meze and marinated chicken. This was plenty of food for two and we couldn't actually finish it. The food was incredibly tasty, with lots of different flavours. The service was good and food arrived pretty quickly, but we didn't feel rushed. Would definitely return and recommend to others.

Worth going for the calibre of the wine alone, but the food was delicious too. They were more than happy to cater to my extensive dietary requirements. And the atmosphere is lovely - a smallish place, tucked in on the corner near the train station. Our new favourite restaurant!

Thoroughly enjoyed an early dinner at this popular Algerian restaurant. The food was delicious and plentiful, priced about right and cheerfully served.

Had an excellent oreo milkshake. Think I chose the right milk for it!
